Welcome to the 25th edition of the World Baseball Classic, hosted by the Equestrian States. Please feel free to begin posting your RPs and rosters here in this thread. Please direct any OOC discussion to the WBC Discussion Thread.
Teams have been drawn into 10 groups of 6 and will play each team in their group twice, once at home, and once on the road. For the group stage, your own team’s stadium(s) will be used, so participants are asked to include stadium information in their rosters for the use of others.

New to Sports RPing or the WBC?
First, if you’re new to the NS Sports forum, I strongly encourage you read the Guide to Sports Roleplaying. I will mostly try to explain the differences between the WBC and other NS Sports tournaments in this section, and the guide does an excellent job of giving new participants a general idea of what to do and how tournaments generally work.
For those of you who want me to simply get to the basics, the first thing I’ll cover is the roster. A roster is a list of the names of your players and what positions they play; but if you want, you can post other information as well. This can include, but certainly isn’t limited to: handedness (for batting and throwing), strengths and weaknesses, statistics, and performances in previous tournaments or in your own domestic leagues. Other common elements of a good roster include images and information on stadium(s) your team uses, uniforms, and coaching staff.
Second, the Designated Hitter (DH) Rule is an aspect that is unique to baseball here on NS Sports. In short, the DH rule allows for teams to designate a player to bat for their pitcher, generally giving teams more flexibility when at bat. For more information on the DH rule and its implementation, please refer to the Wikipedia article on the subject, as it goes into far more detail than I can here. In regards to the WBC, the DH rule is only used if the home team uses a DH. If the home team does not use a DH, neither team will use the DH, regardless of the away team’s preference. If the home team has not specified (in their roster or an RP) whether they use a DH or not, the first participant to RP will dictate the use/nonuse of the DH in that game.
Finally, the RP Permissions box is an essential part of participating in any tournament. The idea of the box is to let your opponents know what you are willing to allow them to do, and what you aren’t willing to allow them to do. This includes injuries, lineup changes, the use of a DH, ejections, etc. Please post the following somewhere in your roster when you post one:
- Code: Select all
My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my runscorers: Yes/No
Choose my lineup: Yes/No
Follow my pitching rotation: Yes/No
Godmod scoring events: Yes/No
RP injuries to my players: Yes/No
Godmod injuries to my players: Yes/No
Eject my players: Yes/No
Godmod other events: Yes/No
Use DH at home: Yes/No
Scorination
Line scores will be posted but they do not need to be used. However, the final score must be the same. If your opponent RPs first, you must follow the same line score they used (whether it’s the one posted by me or one they made up).
Games will be scorinated between 5:00 and 6:30 PM EDT each day unless otherwise noted (Edit: Originally scheduled for 3-4 PM, but computer issues result in the delay, which has been kept after the issues were resolved). Should the cutoff time need to be changed, it will be pushed back and I will try to give no less than one day’s warning before this.

Playoff Stage
The top two teams from each group will qualify for the playoff stage. Group winners will be seeded 1-10 based on the established tiebreakers (see host bid), and will receive an automatic bye to the round of 16. The top two second-place teams will also receive a bye to the round of 16 and will be seeded 11-12. The other eight second-place finishers will be seeded 13-20 and will face each other in a one-game playoff to determine which teams will advance to the round of 16. The play-in games will happen the day after the conclusion of the group stage, after which there will be one off day before the playoff stage begins.
The winners of the play-in games will face the top four group winners, determined by seeding. Following the reseeding between the play-in round and the round of 16, teams will not be reseeded after each round. All playoff series will be held in neutral venues throughout the Equestrian States.
