Taeshan/Hutt River Cup of Harmony 55 bid

Postby Hutt River » Tue Jan 15, 2013 4:13 pm

(logo goes here)

Previous experience
The User behind Taeshan has various Professional sporting leagues which he has run for around 30 seasons. Taeshan has been a part of the World Cup seen since WC 37 qualifying, and was winner of the Cup of Harmony 35. Since coming back into the fold after a 4 cup Hiatus, the nation of Taeshan has been more involved in the hosting of events with an expanded list of sports leagues and divisions.

The user behind Hutt River has hosted before with his previous nation of Ipeland. Ipeland co-hosted Baptism of Fire 47 with Cassadaigua and have hosted the 8th Babbage Rules Football World Championships and Market Cup V solo.

Scorination and RP bonus
Scorination will be made with NSFS 3.0.1. RPs will be graded up to 5. Cutoff times will be 10pm EST for Taeshan’s half and 10pm GMT for Hutt River’s half

Format
At the time of posting, it’s too early to tell which of the RPers will qualify for the World Cup, and which will look on. Plans for 24, 28, 32 and possibly 40 teams have been made. A decision will be made closer to the time.

A 32 or 40 team cup will work out in the usual way 8 groups of 4 or 5, top two go through to a round of 16. A 24 or 28 team cup will be 4 groups of 6 or 7, with the top two going through to a quarter final.

Invitation Criterion
The invitation criteria has been set, but will not be revealed due to people RPing for the sole purpose to get into the CoH

In character information and stadiums will be in the thread if we win

RPs will be graded from 1-5, 1 being terrible and 5 being brilliant.

Can't say I'm a fan of a bid that uses a hard scale based on quality to grade RPs. There shouldn't be a set scale of "terrible" to "brilliant". Why not just say the maximum bonus is set at 5?

Thanks for the feedback. I was thinking it was a bit of a bad choice of wording. Bid edited accordingly

So, what practical hosting experience are we talking about with Taeshan? Sure, he's scorinated loads of his own domestic leagues, but doing that and running a WCC tournament are different kettles of fish. Can Taeshan please explain why he's decided to bid, and what past track record voters should judge his bid on?

Alright, I must agree that Taeshan acks the hosting experience, from my point of view. While Hutt River's got enough. However, I don't see much inconveniences with Tae hosting this, as he's someone I'd deem trustworthy enough for this. If this is the only bid, it probably gets my vtoe, unless some drastic change is made.

Do I get my invitation now?

It is a valid point that i lack much prior experience in the Hosting department beyond my 6 or so domestic leagues in many sports i have run. I've been looking more towards the hosting side recently, and i felt that in recent times due to a very high grasp of knowledge of the scorinator and a long history in the NS world i would look to finally hosting an event. I feel that in the last 5 and a half years the people i have known throughout my ups and downs in NS would see that over time i've improved from that reckless n00b into a position where i am respected member of the society, at times  . I acknowledge past mistakes in the Hosting world, I.E. the failed Rugby World Cup a few months into my first years on NS. Since i returned to NS after my Hiatus i have felt more confident in my abilities and have since been looking to host something as noted by a host bid for A World Baseball Classic, and a World Volleyball Expo. As to our host bid is concerned i felt it was worth a try and as i've been around longer, and Ipeland has previous hosting experience of a more tournament wise notion i felt it was a good match to attempt to host my first international event.

As a follow-up to that: Would you say Ipeland/Hutt River is taking the role of the "senior" bid partner and yourself the junior in this bid?

Ideally I'd like you to host something else first, but as you have indeed been around ages, and it doesn't seem like we'll get any other bids, this is certainly the better option than reopen bidding.

If you can come up with some really amazing role-play idea to go with it, I think it could be much better, but nevertheless, an overall good bid.

The hosts' job is to scorinate an event. Creating roleplay ideas isn't in the job description.

Of course, but in seeing the extra effort put forth by the hosts, I believe that the overall quality of the event increases. Now remember, that's just my humble opinion. Overall it is still a great bid.

Hosting a WC sanctioned event is a full-time effort in and of itself. While I praise those who go above and beyond what is technically neccesary, it is unfair to demand it of everyone.

This bid gets my support.

Liventia asked about the hardline scale, I brought another question up bout it on IRC, but never really got a complete answer: What was your reasoning to go with 5 as the maximum on the RP scale, and not something smaller? Is it that a smaller RP bonus between everyone would garner balance between the teams, and you wanted a more definitive gap for those who RP and those who don't?

Taeshan is one of our community success stories, maturing from someone whose RPs were initially little better than Lymantatia's currently are, to someone who is a constructive contributor to NS Sports.

I can see why some people might have some reservations here, but I'm prepared to show some faith and give him a chance, especially given the presence of a more experienced host. The self-awareness about admitting past mistakes while also acknowledging personal growth is helpful here.

And while this isn't itself a reason to support this bid, it perhaps also serves as a long-term model for Lymantatia; with emphasis on the long.

Without trying to repeat the sentiments that have already been expressed here by other posters, I think Taeshan deserves a shot at hosting the CoH. Maybe his record hasn't exactly been flawless but he's certainly been around long enough to be given a chance, especially when you consider that no-one else seems to be bidding. Ipeland/Hutt River is also a suitable choice, I think we are all agreed on that.

I hope you win with this bid.

I think that this bid will win. I've just got a feeling that Tae deserves to host a big tournament like the CoH. I'll vote for this bid in the bidding.

Not technically eligible to vote, but I can verify that Tae has a pretty rad chair. Apparently it smells good. His words, not mine. You go, tiger.
