Welcome to the everything thread for GAFA III. This is the place to post Rosters, RP about events (in order to receive RP Bonuses), as well as find out the scores from your team's games.

This year's season consists of 10 Inner-Conference Games, and 5 Out of Conference Games. You can find your schedules HERE:
http://nsgafa.weebly.com/schedules.html
This link will tell you what conference you are in, and your first ten games of the season. Home teams are listed on the left, and away teams on the right.

The First Week of matches will be on Monday January 7th, Wednesday January 9th, and Friday January 11th.

All other matches (matches 4-15) will be scorinated on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.
Expect RP Cutoffs to be between 4:00-4:30 EST. If there are any scorination changes, I will post them in the OOC thread to give you a head's up!

RP & Scorination: NSFS will be used in this edition of the GAFA, RPs will be graded from 0-5 (Rosters will be graded from 0-8), and will be cumulative. Teams that miss RPing will have their
total degrade .75 for each missed matchday.

(PLAYOFFS: The top 7 teams in each conference will qualify for the playoffs. Both conference champions will receive a first round bye. From then it will be a simple single elimination tournament.)

IC: ICly, GAFA seasons run from Jan-April/May
But OOCly this runs from Jan-Feb.

Commentaries:
The Quebec Voyageurs, after their successful Season 2 of GAFA with 6-4 record and placing 4th in the playoffs, is expected to repeat their feat and extend even further of their success. After their early-season struggles, they were able to pull off many crucial wins, thanks to their strong offence led by Third-year QB Luc Arvineau, who performed better than expected on the 12th Bowl of Iron and the Qualification round for the 19th World Bowl.
The squad did not change much from the last season's, with only changes occuring with the joining of 2 St.Croix Graduates in the form of Walter Kim and In Gweon No. And with the most players gaining experience and skills, they will do better.
Expect 2nd/3rd place in the Omega Conference, with definite chance of making playoffs.

Kialga Sentinels

Valen Citta, Kialga --- As the third season of the Global American Football Association (GAFA III) begins to get underway, head coach of the Kialga Sentinels, Noah Phillips, has had players on day-to-day training. This is the first time that Kialga will have a team represented in world-wide sports. As such, Phillips released the following statement when he was named Sentinels head coach.

"The first shot is what makes or breaks us. We are finally getting into the world, and must prove that we are ready. The Sentinels first season must not be their last.

Phillips has yet to comment on the Nigh Citta Birdeaters, the other team entering GAFA III from Kialga. It is yet to be seen if Phillips will even recognize that the Birdeaters are competing.

Nigh Citta Birdeaters

Nigh Citta, Kialga --- As Global American Football Association Season 3 (GAFA III) comes around, Coach Michael Strong has a bright outlook for the Nigh Citta Birdeaters. Coach Strong has been coaching the Birdeaters for close to six years. As the once tiny club team enters the international level, Strong sets the bar high.

"The transition may be a strain on our players, but I know that we can make it. It may be tough in the beginning, and they may want to give up, but I will make sure to have the best season we can."

The Birdeaters will enter the Alpha Conference, alongside several well-known and experienced teams. Although Strong knows the Sentinels have entered, he has no worries due to them being in the Omega Conference.

Strategy
Offensive Strategy: West Coast Offense w/Tweaks; Lots of Running; including QB sneaks and Play Action to Keep Defense Off Balance
Defensive Strategy: Aggressive Defense; Lots of Blitzing; Lots of Man Coverage

Things to Look Out For:
Offense: When it comes to QB sneaks, Carl Kapernickle is not only fast, but strong. He can run through tough defenses without a problem. Sometimes, Carl gives the ball to RB Franky Killer so that he may play as a QB, confusing the defense. Lastly, when the real play action comes, Carl throw a quick pass while the defense is distracted. Yet, this has caused a problem in the past leading to interceptions.

Defense: The D-Line of the 57ers are deadly. They can get viscous and too out of hand including causing career ending injuries to Qbs everywhere. They play strong blitzes, which usually ends up for a sack; especially Alldone Smithsoni. Alldone is one of the best sackers and in his last season, got 14 sacks. Offenses beware of Tarn White, the most deadly of the CBs. He's extremely fast and once he intercepts a ball, it usually ends up in a pic-6.

Special Teams: Most people think of special teams as nothing, but not with the 57ers. They do so many fakes, such as a direct snap to a hidden LeMike Johns, who takes the place of Lee during a punt. While the returning team is thinking what's going on, LaMike would've already ran 15 yards. Lastly, during fake field goals, Bradley Seadly has trained Acres to play the QB position. Instead of kicking, Acres throws the ball to whoever is open leading to great yardage.

Strategy
Offensive Strategy: Passing Offense; lots of long passes; short passes when no ones open or the QB's under pressure
Defensive Strategy: Conservative Defense; Rather cover than blitz; Zone Defense; many interceptions

Things to Look Out For:
Offense: QB Kevin Gandal has a long arm. He can throw from his own end zone all the way to the other. When he's under pressure, he always makes the smart move to throw it a way or run for his life in a 3rd down situation. There are also some trick plays such as a direct snap to the running back. Also, the wide receivers such as Deminco Murgona are so fast, they can outrun the CB and the Safety to be open for a long throw. Sometimes, they can even catch in double coverage.

Defense: Since the defense is conservative, they are less worried about getting the sack and more worried about coverage. Once the ball is thrown, if you are even a little off target, that ball is going to be intercepted. Also, the defense can read plays. If one defender uses a code word (which won't be said since it's secret) all the defenders know the code, which lets them adjust to the appropriate position.

Special Teams: Special teams isn't that important to the Sailors. The only major thing is the ability of Kicker Darmin Long to kick the ball from up to 60 yards.

Stadium:

Image

Iqaluit Stadium, Nunavut
Capacity: 93,890. Could be expanded to 97,850 if needed.
Built,Open Date: 7.14.2012. 9.4.2012.
Renovation: 2011

Located in Iqaluit, the northernmost city of Quebec with the population of 574,000,it's one of the most intimidating stadiums in Gridiron Football. Best known as the home of the University of Iqaluit and this Iqaluit Thanatos, It is, for the every single game, packed out with crazy fans who doesn't mind being stacked into the stands or seats to watch their team play. The crowds at the stadium has always been loud and rowdy. Everything they do(when cheering for their team) is orchestrated, everything they do has got some kind of hand motion and yelling, a lot of which are profane and offending.

Weather is no better for the opposing team either. In this part of the year, the average temperature of Iqaluit's approximately -17'C in night-time, with extreme chances of snowing expected during games.
Therefore, with the combination of those 2 aspects, it's going to be a difficult venue for the opposing teams to play.

Notes.
1. All the games that are played in the stadium will be in night-time, with the match starting in 21:30 and most likely to end at 23:30-midnight.
2. Due to the harsh climate in the area, all Football players are recommended(though not mandatory) to wear an additional clothing with sleeves to protect themselves from freezing to death.

In Championship rematch results go the other way
When the reigning champions, Phoenixes, went to Bellmont for a championship rematch Coreus couldn't get a strong defense running as they lost 24-13. QB Jakie Rodgers opened the game strong , hitting CJ Jones for the Phoenixes first TD of the season. Then CB Kendrick Hayward picked off Bellmont to result in a Jason Crosby field goal. However the the offense couldn't get going scoring only 3 points in the last 3 quarters. The defense then fell apart giving Bellmont easy TDs and didn't have a takeaway for the last 3 quarters and went without a sack for the whole second half. "We may have lost," said head coach Jackson Ferrrence, "but we can know see our weak points and how to improve them. Also the new additions [Cornerback Kendrick Hayward, Running Back Karim Ware, and Linebacker Gerald Moses] played very well. Ware got 94 yards with split carries, Hayward got a pick, and Moses got a sack. so things are looking good for the future."
Coreus will once again go up against an experienced team next game going up against the Rutopa'a Rangers on the road

Valen Citta, Kialga --- Entering as a rookie team in GAFA III, the Sentinels were hoping to make a mark for themselves against the Tomahna Skyscrapers. On the road, Sentinels head coach Noah Phillips was dead set on coming on strong.

First quarter scoring was dull. The Sentinels were only able to pull off a single field goal, not coming close to the already two touchdowns/extra points set by the Skyscrapers. Phillips made a switch for the second quarter, sending running back Delbert Larkey through his ropes. After a six play drive in the early second, Sentinels were able to pull off their first touchdown, bringing the score to 10-21 (Skyscrapers).

The third quarter was uneventful for Sentinels fans, as every attempt at a score was put down by the Skyscrapers. The third quarter, unfortunate for Sentinels fans, wound up 10-27 Skyscrapers. The early fourth turned out to be the last time Sentinels fans would see score added for their positive. In the first five minutes, kicker Johnathan Benskin kicked an amazing 52-yard field goal. Better for Sentinels fans was, that was all the Skyscrapers were able to pull out as well. Late fourth quarter brought the field goal from the Skyscrapers.

The game ended in a sad loss for Sentinels fans throughout Kialga. The 13-30 loss pushed moral down for fans cheering at home. Coach Phillips refused to comment on anything, even refusing to show up to the press conference afterwards.

Sentinels will be playing on the road again next week, at the Quebec Voyagers.

Nigh Citta, Kialga --- On the road, Birdeater players, fans, and coaches found themselves in Lycrabon to face the St. Catherine Ravens. Coach Michael Strong issued the statement to players "... we are here to win. But do the best you can and don't give up until the buzzer sounds..."

First quarter found running back Marcel Haaker making a 45-yard run for the first touchdown of the game. Kicker Rod Hackner was able to make the extra point, taking the early game lead of 7-0 Birdeaters. The first quarter was also eventful for the Ravens, scoring a touchdown to match the Birdeaters late in the first. By the end of the first, the score was tied at 7.

Second quarter proved to the home team that they may have an advantage. After attempting a pass, quarterback Son Gitelman of Nigh Citta was sacked for a loss of eight yards. Unfortunately, he found himself carted off the field, with what doctors say was a sprained ankle. After the injury, the Ravens scored another touchdown and extra point kick to bring the game to 7-14 Ravens, at the half.

Third quarter became the moment of truth for Coach Strong. Forced to make running plays with a less-than-perfect back-up quarterback, Birdeater fans were delighted. Fullback Elwood Ruis completed a 6-play, 73-yard touchdown to bring the score to 13-14. Through percerference, kicker Rod Hackner added another field goal to the Birdeaters score. Ravens added another touchdown to their score, ending the third quarter at 16-20.

The fourth quarter was another running play for FB- Ruis. Starting the fourth with a 32-yard run to bring the game to 22-20. All eyes were on K- Hackner as he lined up an extra point. Making it successful kick, the Birdeaters rounded out the start at 23-20, which proved to be the final score.

Signs were painted and hung across Nigh Citta, Kialga's capital after the victory. Many reading, "Birdeaters stay true to name!" After the game, fans were happy to find out that Quarterback Gitelman was just on a sprained ankle, and was likely to return to face the Birdeaters next opponent, on the road at the Veydevarj Panthers.

Ronald Gerrick: Hello, I'm Ronald Gerrick

Steve Bradshaw: and I'm Steve Bradshaw, and welcome to the Chunnan Post Game Show.

Ronald Gerrick: Well it's the first game of the season, 57ers vs he Eldora Hawks. It's an amazing one for the 57ers, while as for the Sailors, not bad.

Steve Bradshaw: Let's look at the highlights Ronald. First Quarter, Quarterback Oliver Gedney throws to WR Doug Sandor, all the way 80 yards.

Ronald Gerrick: And what a play. Then Carl Kapernickle, at the 1 yard line, 3rd an 10, and sacked for a safety by the LB Eric Berger, Hawks up 9-0. That's the only score they'll have. 2nd quarter, Carl Kapernickle, under pressure, right when he's about to get sacked, throws it short to RB Franky Killer. BUT NO ONE COULD STOP HIM. He runs 50 yards until finally tackled at the 1 yard line, followed by a QB sneak by Kapernickle, touchdown. Then, Doug Sandor, throws it to the endzone, BUT WAIT, picked off by Roger Carlos and gets tackled. This play leads to a field goal. 10-9, 57ers up.

Steve Bradshaw: 3rd quarter, 5 seconds left in the , Kapernickle, throws it all the way to Randall Moss, 20 yard touchdown. 57ers up 29-9. No more scores after that, 57ers win their first game.

OOC: Chunnan, I'd really appreciate if you didn't rip off the 49ers roster so blatantly. Thanks

Kolo Lahi defeats League's Historic Best

Kolo Lahi Killer Whales 17, Murbley Mighty Kittens 9

From a resounding rush attack to a staunch defense, the Kolo Lahi Killer Whales pulled off a historic upset of the league's premier team, the Murbley Mighty Kittens. This was the Kittens' second loss in their three seasons in the league, and their first in regular season play. The Killer Whales finished narrowly out of contention for last year's playoffs.

Running back Ramono Rowalopanai rushed for both of the team's touchdowns, from 5 and 34 yards. He appeared on form the entire day, finishing with 185 yards on 38 carries to go along with the two touchdowns. "I was really just feeling it today," said Rowalopanai. "I have to give credit to my line. They did some serious work today to get that tough line back. They opened up holes so wide that by the time I got to the trenches, they were already 3 yards upfield. That's huge for a back. And, you know, I suppose it helps when their average weight is 385 pounds."

While the offense did its job, it was the defense who really made the game for the Killer Whales. Cornerbacks Apumo Kaparanalokai and Moluko Poluwumolatapai each had an interception, resulting in 10 points on the ensuing drives. In addition, defensive end Nalumo Ralamowunaroi had 3 sacks of the Murbley quarterback, and two tackles for loss. The defense allowed only 213 yards to the Kittens offense, and held them to 3 for 12 on third downs.

Coach Pulamo Morukalanapai was pleased with his team's performance: "Clearly, it's great to get a big win. You can't get a whole lot bigger than beating the Kittens for this league, so it's great. You definitely need to remind yourself that you can do this, you can win these games. At the same time, you need to focus on the next game and move forward. You have to strike that balance between appreciation and preparation, and to be a good team you have to get that right. If we are going to be a good team, we have to do that. Next week's performance will be a litmus test for that."

The Killer Whales now move onto league observers' lists, as their win over the Mighty Kittens puts them in rare company. It remains to be seen how they handle the pressure, but all involved seem to be optimistic about the future of this team.
"For the glory of our people, we govern our nation freely. For the glory of Polynesia, we help and strengthen our friends. For the glory of the earth, we do not destroy what it has bestowed upon us."
