Triimoria Thump Slembana

Triimoria record first victory in the Esportiva Union Cup at KAM Park

Code: Select all
Triimoria           40-12            Slembana

Tries:                               Tries:
D'Eau   7                            ???   12, 63
Pennyworth   29, 36

Dorrins   70

Cons:                                Cons:
Dagmont (5)                          ???

Today is the opening day of the second Esportiva Union Cup and Triimoria had what looked like a tough game on their hands. Slembana are no newcomers to the international stage and the Triimorian side fully expected a challenge. However Triimoria stood up to that threat and came away with a convincing 40-12 victory. Tries were scored by D'Eau, Pennyworth (two), Dobryski (two) and Dorrins.

Fly-half Hamish D'Eau opened the scoring seven minutes in. He broke the Slembanan line at pace and scored between the posts. Dagmont successfully converted. 7-0. However, Slembana swiftly struck back another five minutes on. From the first score Slembana had parked themselves in Triimoria's twenty-two, and capitalised upon this when their hooker bundled over the line for a try. The conversion was scored. 7 all. Triimoria reclaimed the lead twenty-nine minutes in when Pennyworth looped to the outside of his winger to score in the corner. Dagmont could not convert. 12-7. Pennyworth scored again on the thirty-sixth minute with a line break to put his side 19-7 ahead at half-time.

It was fourteen minutes into the second half before there was another score. This time it was Dobryski. An excellent grubber kick by D'Eau was snatched up by Dobryski for the score. 26-7. Slembana scored on the sixty-third minute. This time their wing powering into the corner for the try. It was not converted. 26-12. Dobryski increased Triimoria's lead three minutes later. Dorrins finished off the rout on the seventieth minutes with a great individual try in the corner, which was spectacularly converted. 40-12 was the final score.

Seven Wonders amazed by skill of strong Apoxian squad

Apox 29-3 Seven Wonders
Tries:
James Lidgley 15'
Fred Horne 37'
Jack Barton 55', 71'

Cons:
George Lockwood
16', 56', 71'

Pens:
George Lockwood 39' Unknown 64'

We went into this tournament, our third venture into international rugby union, after a dismal showing in the first Esportiva Union Cup and then a mediocre showing in the Zackendal Challenge Cup, we knew that the aim this time was to progress beyond the group stages.

We faced off against an unknown Seven Wonder's side, a nation we don't have much dealing with, in the quite full Kanveer Sports Park, mainly full of the natives, but with a large contingent of around 1,500 Apoxian fans in one corner.

The games started slowly, with a large ruck forming around the Seven Wonder's twenty-to line, which we were unable to break from. In the 15th minute, James Lidgley broke from the line in an impressive run, after receiving the ball from Jordon Obita from a ruck. George Lockwood put away the conversion, dead between the posts. After a bit more resistance, Fred Horne ran in a ball, supported by George Griffin and Henry Monteforth on either side, the Wonder's player seemed to melt away to our charges. George Lockwood missed the conversion, but managed to get a penalty just before the break, putting us in a good 15-0 at half time.

After an intense half-time talk by Jacwob the Unruly, the boys came out energised, and Jack Barton received the ball on the wing before flying away toward the try line, stepping a Wonder's player, and scoring underneath the posts, George Lockwood duly converting. A small set-back of Seven Wonder's scoring a penalty in the 64th minute didn't seem to both our players too much, and after a long build, Jack Barton once again crossed the line for a try, battering his way between two Wonder's players in the process.

With the game won, we suffered a major problem, as George Lockwood twisted his ankle pretty badly in a tackle, meaning he will miss at least the next match, possibly the one after, probably meaning kicking duty will go to Quint McCallaghan in our next match against Free Swiss States.

Triimoria Defeat Hosts in Close Match

In second match they edge out Cyborg Holland

Code: Select all
Triimoria           19-17      Cyborg Holland

Tries:                         Tries:
Finny   24                     Seegers   13, 39
Dickens   57                   Altena   74
Dorrins   80

Cons:                          Cons:
Dagmont (2)                    Seegers

After yesterday's comfortable victory, today's match was very much a reality check. Cyborg Holland were tipped as favourites for this match, but a somewhat heroic performance from Triimoria gave them a well-deserved victory in front of a full-house at Ashbaarn Park. There were tries for Finny, Dickens and Dorrins each.

Cyborg Holland took the lead thirteen minutes in. It was a textbook try. Cyborg Holland took good advantage of an over-lap by firing it out to Seegers who ran in the try. It was Seegers himself who took the conversion, but it was missed. Triimoria seized the lead in the twenty-fourth minute. They used lots of pick-and-go play until the lock, Finny, touched the ball down for a hard-earned try. Dagmont converted. 7-5. Just before half-time however Seegers regained the lead for Cyborg Holland much in a similar fashion to the first, but again he could not convert his own try. 10-7 to Cyborg Holland at half-time.

Cyborg Holland held on to their lead until the late fifties, when Dickens scored for Triimoria. He simply beat his opposite number and was away. Though, this time Dagmont did not score the conversion. 12-10. But, With only six minutes to go Altena appeared to have shattered Triimoria's dreams. He slipped through the Triimorian line with a great run, and scored between the posts. This time Seegers did not fail. 17-12 and it looked game, set and match to Cyborg Holland. Triimoria had other ideas however. In the last play Dorrins got the ball, he side-stepped his man and flew down the wing for a try in the corner. 17-17. It was a tough kick, but could Dagmont convert? He could and did! 19-17 to Triimoria was the final score.

Triimoria Take Top Spot

Win over Royal East America is third victory on the trot

Pennyworth   69

Cons:
Dagmont (3)

The final games of the group stage of the second Esportiva Union Cup took place today. Triimoria took on a relative unknown, Royal East America, in front of a decent crowd at the KAM Park. They defeated the East Americans comfortably. This win gives Triimoria top spot in their group. Tries came for D'Eau, Daeoch, Lightfoot and Pennyworth.

It wasn't until the twenty-second minute until the first score was put on the board. It was Triimoria's fly half, Hamish D'Eau. A storming run took him through a ,in truth, weak Royal East American line. He romped over the try line for the score. Dagmont converted. Royal East America struck back when Farmer was penalized for a high tackle. Harris scored the penalty. 7-3. Triimoria later increased their lead. Daeoch breaking the Royal East American line from the breakdown. 14-3.

It was late into the second half until their was another score. This time, Triimoria's other flanker, Lightfoot. Handing off his opposite number he burst through the East American line and scored between the posts. Again Dagmont converted. Two minutes later Pennyworth struck the killer blow. He looped to the outside of Dorrins to create an overlap, which they then exploited successfully for a try in the corner. 29-3 was the final score.

Narrow Lose Disappointing, But Should Still Go Through

Apox 10-12 Estope
Tries:
Kevin Thornton 65' Jamie Olea 17'
Nelson Mirelez 56'

Cons:
Quint McCallaghan 65; Jamie Olea 18'

Pens:
Quint McCallaghan 21'

We were nearly unbeaten, but Estope proved to be one bridge to far for us in the end. Some could say it was because our squad were tired, and others could claim it was because we rested some of our key players. However, I believe it's because we simply weren't good enough on the day. We're still a nation in its infancy when it comes to Rugby, and to put the display that we did against other teams is something good. However, this was our stumbling block.

After a short period of deadlock, Jamie Olea scored rampantly, barging past Chris Beoh to score, and then subseqently converting his try to make it 7-0 to Estope. Quint McCallaghan made it 7-3 four minutes later with a penalty from 30 metres out after a very high tackle on James Lidgley as he looked to break the line.

Little other action occurred but for a good break by John Jones which looked set to bring up a try, only stopped by the fantastic diving tackle pulled off by Neil Peluso 10 metres from the line.

The second half started as the second ended, deadlock, until, Estope slowly raising the pressure, Nelson Mirelez driving over a poorly defended ruck and charging over the line. This made the score 12-3, and while it was not an impossible mountain to climb, it was going to be hard against this tough Estope side. Kevin Thornton started momentum in our direction, scoring a try in the 65th minute which was then converted by Quint McCallaghan, lowering the deficit to only 2 points. After almost crumbling under the waves of attacks the now invigorated Apox team piled on, Estope held on, and we succumbed to a depressing defeat.

However, we will pick ourselves up, and providing we make the next round, we'll be back, and challenging.

Can One Big Boot Be Enough?

If at first you don't succeed, who needs a try?

Eleven successful kicks by Durngarth Geach may yet be enough to see the Seven Wonders XV through in the Esportivan Union Cup. Plagued by an inability to finish attacks bordering upon the ludicrous, the Miracles nevertheless emerged from the pool stage with one win, one loss, and one draw following a do-or-die 15-6 win over Free Swiss States at Neeuwijen Field in Cyborg Holland. This followed a 29-3 shellacking by Apox and a 15-15 draw with unbeaten Estope.

Should the Miracles advance to quarterfinals their opponent is unknown at this stage. But Geach is upbeat. "Get the fool thing forward and get it to me, I'll kick it home as often as we need. But it would be nice to bang through at least one conversion before we're done."

Triimoria Draw Royal East America

The fixtures for the next round of the Esportiva Union Cup were revealed today, and Triimoria will be facing a familiar foe. As the top-placed group winner Triimoria will play the lowest-placed third place, which happens to be a member of their same group, Royal East America. What makes this more suprising is the fact that Triimoria only faced the East Americans in their last game. On that occasion Triimoria defeated them 29-3 and controlled for large parts of the match. This puts Triimoria as firm favourites for the clash. But, do not rule out the East Americans. They defeated Slembana 24-3, in somewhat of a giant killing. Perhaps they can regain this form for their match against Triimoria? The game will take place tomorrow at the Eindhoven Sports Arena.

Dobryski Sees Triimoria Through

Triimoria Defeat East America But Only with the Centre's Hat-trick

Code: Select all

Dobryski   9, 67, 75       Schwartz   34

Pens:                      Pens:

Cons:                      Cons:
Dagmont (3)                Harris

It's quarter-finals day at the Esportiva Union Cup. Triimoria faced the relative minnows Royal East America in their tie. The East Americans put up a spirited performance but were finally put to the sword by Triimoria's outside centre, Dobryski who was on excellent form. However Triimoria's performance was mediocre and ill-disciplined. They gave away five penalties, three of which were scored. Also the East Americans dominated for a large part of the game.

Despite all the doom and gloom Triimoria did open the scoring. On the ninth minute Dobryski burst through the East American defence, which was also weak at points in Triimoria's first meeting against their opposition. He went on to touch down between the posts. Dagmont increased Triimoria's lead to ten points when he converted a penalty a few minutes later. Now East America took the game back to Triimoria. Harris scored a penalty after Dorrins' high tackle on the fifteenth minute and were back level by half-time. Right wing Schwartz using an overlap.

Now the game was very even, but still the East Americans got further ahead because of Triimoria's unusual ill-discipline. Two more penalties were converted on the forty-fourth and fifty-ninth minutes, respectively. 16-10. Dobryski now took is time in the limelight. Triimorian forwards were dominating their opposition counterparts on the East American try line in respect to rucking, using several pick-up and drive plays. Finally they gave the ball to the backs and Dobryski leaped over the line. 17-16. Dagmont put Triimoria further ahead with a penalty. Dobryski got his hat-trick and finished off the match on the seventy-fifth minute when he went on a storming run, beating several players, and romping over the try line for a magnificent individual try.

Estope has continued to surprise and has earned a spot in the Esportivan Union Cup against Triimoria. Estope has fought very hard throughout the tournament but no harder than in the semifinals against Seven Wonders. After falling behind by 20, Estope was able to score 24 unanswered points and hold Seven Wonders scoreless to win the game and reach the championship. This Estope has been known to underachieve when it comes to Rugby World Cup but in the Esportivan Union Cup it appears they have finally lived up to their potential.

                               Seegers

The semi-finals of the Esportiva Union Cup took place today. Triimoria took on hosts, Cyborg Holland. They had played the hosts once before in this tournament, in fact in the same stadium (Ashbaarn Park), also in front of a sell-out crowd. On that occasion Triimoria won 19-17 in an exciting match. Cyborg Holland were billed as the superior side, surely Triimoria couldn't defeat them again? They did this time by 19 points to three. D'Eau, Dorrins and Pennyworth were the try scorers for Triimoria.

Cyborg Holland were ahead within a few minutes. From the kick off Lightfoot fumbled the ball forward. Mathiasen, a prop, crossed the line from the ensuing scrum. 7-0. Seegers put Cyborg Holland further ahead from a penalty on the twenty-third minute. D'Eau hit back for Triimoria within ten minutes. From the back of a ruck Dagmont passed to D'Eau who was running through, letting him in for the try. Dagmont converted 10-7.

Cyborg Holland increased their lead by another three points after a penalty, only three minutes into the second half. Six minutes later another penalty went over for Cyborg Holland. 13-7. Triimoria were beginning to lack behind, Cyborg Holland were holding more and more of the possession. However, on the fifty-sixth minute, from the blue, Dorrins sped down the wing to score. 13-12. With only eight minutes to go, Pennyworth, who has been on superb form throughout the tournament, side-stepped his man to race away from the Cyborg Holland defence and scored. Dagmont converted. Full time- 19-13 to Triimoria. They booked their place in the final.
