<Koyro> (Democratic Koyro) NSG senate is a glaring example of why no one in NSG should ever have a position of authority
The Emerald Dawn wrote:"Considering Officer Krupke was patently idiotic to charge these young men in the first place, we're dropping the charges in the interest of not wasting any more of the Judiciary's time with farcical charges brought by officers who require more training on basic legal principles."

Nation: Federated States of Sakurakoku
Demonym: Sakuran
Code: SKR
Nickname: Silver Wolves (or just Wolves for short if no confusion can be made)
Home Stadium: Central Bay Stadium (capacity: 62,306) in Kugamachi. DH will be used for home games.
Modifier: -1

Fielders - Name, Position, Uni#, B/T
Starters (in order, starting position in bold)
1. Yuuhi Katou, CF, #29, S/L. Good legs means he can cover a great deal of the outfield and speed along the basepaths.
2. Mami Kaneko*, 3B/LF, #25, L/L. Bat is pretty good. Known to make elegant defensive plays despite being "wrong"-handed.
3. Hikaru Horie, 1B (DH), #12, R/R. Good bat control means he often comes up with clutch hits. Not the fastest runner but his solid grasp of the game means he'll attempt steals more than others with his speed...and succeed.
4. Genji Furukawa, 2B, #16, R/R. Strong bat and solid defense.
5. Akiyoshi Kimihara, 1B, #22, R/R. Shows a lot of promise with his raw power, but still a work in progress.
6. Mio Yamagishi*, RF/2B, #5, S/L. Can hit hard but often inconsistent. Not great speed but known to make incredible catches when needed.
7. Satoshi Takeda, SS, #45, S/R. Strengths are in contact hitting and solid defense.
8. Kappei Kusao, SS/LF, #19, R/R. Good speed and can cover a lot of ground on defense.
9. Kazuhide Suzuki, C, #42, R/R. Strong, accurate arm means it's difficult to steal bases against him.

NOTE: If the DH is not being used, the pitcher bats ninth and all other starters shift up one spot.

Bench
Mitsuo Dojima, 3B/SS, #24, R/R. Quick feet and a threat on basepaths. Not the most accurate thrower, but can make defensive plays few others can.
Osamu Tanonaka, C/1B, #69, R/R. Back-up catcher with a decent bat.
Azusa Uemura*, 2B/SS/RF, #9, S/R. Good feet, decent glove, subpar bat.
Saki Yasuzumi*, RF/LF, #30, L/L. Chiefly a lefty bat option off the bench. But it's a pretty good bat.

Pitchers - Name, Uni#, B/T
Starters (in order)
Kyo Kunimoto, #1, L/L. Control pitcher whose repertoire includes a slurve, circle change, curve, and 2-seamer.
Shizuru Yoshino*, #33, R/R. Relies on knuckleball and an occasional 12-6 curve to confuse batters and make them look silly, which tends to play into the mind games she likes to play.
Kanji Namiya, #44, R/R. Doesn't have the nastiest pitches, but consistently goes deep into games (though whether this will be true in a four-player rotation remains to be seen).
Seiji Aishi, #32, R/R. Has a powerful fastball with a slider and change-up to keep batters honest. Accuracy is somewhat of a concern, though.

Relievers
Manabu Hashimoto, #23, R/R. Swing man.
Hironori Junji, #8, R/R. Long reliever.
Sadaharu Miyanohara, #21, R/R. Long reliever.
Yuriko Saito*, #74, R/R. Long reliever.
Yoriko Hanamura*, #34, L/L. Middle-relief.
Toyohiko Kono, #38, L/L. Middle-relief.
Reito Tachibana, #20, R/R. Set-up pitcher.
Natsuki Minamoto*, #10, L/L. Closer.

Manager: Hayato Kojima, #0

*Female

Powersith Sports Network update from Imperial Captial City!

Thousands of fans today, including our Emperor, were in for a disappointment. When our Baseball Giants faced off against New Montreal States, but lost 6-3. Our starting pitcher, Mentov Rislo had let up 5 runs, before our relief pitcher, Kivnov Reknov had came in. We had scored 3 runs thanks to our batting of Henry Links, Stephn Contras, and Ken Smith who it individual homeruns. For our next game, we hope we can win, and gladly say we won a game in our first WBC.

Pitchers update:
Mentov Rislo - 42 - L - L #1 Record: 0-0 5.0 ERA
Willie Ways - 52 - L - L- #22
Willie Ways Jr. - 34 - R - R #12
Willie Ways III - 16 - L - L # 33
Lei Wingo - 32 - L - L #13
Closers :

The Wakita Inquirer

Maklohi Vai 131 260 210 - 16
Kerblaekistan 010 010 000 - 2
MAK (1-0) KER (0-1)

The Lumai had their highest scoring game in history, and Mae'ao set a new record with 4 homers in one game, in addition to 8 RBIs. Ratai Moi kept the opposition in check by allowing only 4 hits through his 7 innings. Moi allowed 2 walks and struck out 8 also. Ru ate the two remaining innings up, allowing just one hit and one walk. Analyst Wolmoto Likani had a summary of the game, "Offense. I don't care how bad your defense or your pitching is, if you score 16 runs, you will win 99% of the time. I mean, only allowing two runs will win you a game most of the time, but scoring 16 runs- wow. There's really not much more to say than offense."

Maklohi Vai Scoring Summary (OOC: As Kerblaekistan has no roster, I will not provide his scoring and assume no DH)

1st: Ri'ino Uilnai hit a solo shot to center off a mistake fastball up. 1-0 Maklohi Vai

2nd: Mae'ao led off with a homer to left. After Ruputuo flied out, Arnao hit a double into right center. Moalna’akai Lai hit a short single to move him to third. Wolo Rakinalmanai then hit a single to knock Arnao in and move Lai to third. After the pitcher struck out, Aputo Roma’ai hit a single to shallow center. Lai just barely beat the throw home, sliding under the tag to make it a three run inning. 4-0 Maklohi Vai

3rd: With two outs, Mae'ao hit a solo shot to right. 5-1 Maklohi Vai

4th: After Arnao doubled to lead off, Lai hit a two run shot. 7-1 Maklohi Vai

5th: Iao Laina and Ri'ino Uilani hit back to back singles to lead off. Mae'ao capped off the mini-rally with one of the longest home runs in Vaian history, an estimated 482 feet. Koilani Ruputuo made it back to back home runs with a liner that just sneaked over the wall in left. Arnao struck out, but Moalna’akai Lai hit a double, followed by a triple from Wolo Rakinalmanai to drive him in. After the pitcher popped out, Aputo Roma’ai hit a single to let Rakinalmanai in. 13-1 Maklohi Vai

7th: With two outs, Mae'ao hit a two run homer that knocked Iao Laina in as well. 15-2 Maklohi Vai

8th: Mae'ao took a walk that allowed the pinch runner, Woi Mai, to score. 16-2 Maklohi Vai

(OOC: I hate RBIs as a stat, but it's something more recognizable to the average WBC participant)
An update on stats for this tournament:
HR: Mae'ao 4, Koilani Ruputuo 1, Moalna’akai Lai 1, Ri'ino Ulnai 1,
RBI: Mae'ao 8, Moalna’akai Lai 2, Wolo Rakinalmanai 2, Aputo Roma'ai 2, Koilani Ruputuo 1, Ri'ino Ulnai 1

Eagles roll Zandistan.

Ramon McDonald came within 4 outs of Qazox' 3rd ever perfect game before allowing back-to-back singles with 2 outs in the bottom of the 8th; as the Eagles opened their WBC 24 group stage play with an impressive 9-0 win over newcomers Zandistan. Ryan Dodge led the way offensively going 4-5 with a HR and 5 RBI's on the day, and helped McDonald keep his perfect game attempt going with a diving snare to end the 5th inning right over the 3rd base bag. Up next for Qazox, they travel to Homelands our, who were upset by Pacificus 6-5 earlier in the day.

Carlos: Expecting a blowout win over a low ranker was too much of an understatement.

Jason: Considering we ere a 4 point favorite, I don't see how anyone thought we could lose.

Carlos: That left-fielder, uh what's his name, Ottavio Messana or something, was pretty good. He caught that fly ball Adrian hooked into center-field. He's pretty fast for a dude his height.

Jason: About ninety-five percent of Branta Island's team is in their twenties.

Carlos: Well, so is our team.

Jason: No, Russel is 32, and GM is 40-something.

Carlos: GM doesn't count. He's a manager, not a player.

Jason: But he's still part of the team. Without him, we wouldn't be here!

Carlos: Yeah, sure. I heard that Ralph Golightly screwed up one of Branta Island's player's name on the radio and said "Bertotinli" instead of "Bertolini".

Jason: Golightly can't even remember how to say his own name.

Carlos: Probably. I still can't believe we scored nine runs. Let alone five in the top of the fourth. I can't even believe I scored 3 of them.

Jason: That was just a fluke by Branta Island. They thought the man on third would stay at home, and because they had no one in right field.

Carlos: So you're agreeing that these newcomers and low rankers don't have a chance against us.

Jason: Dude, it's only the first game. We have a whole tournament ahead of us.

Assassins Rush Out Early, Hold On Late

Perhaps the debate for whether Melody Johanson should be the starting pitcher for the Yesopalitha Assassins or not isn't as important as fans think. Perhaps it's the relievers that are more of a cause for worry.

Valentin Sorin, Mathilde Leuck, and Xavier Hammond all had three RBI's as the Assassins raced out to a 5-0 lead before withstanding a rally from Riyahda. Synne Boileau gave up the six runs, and may actually be held out.

If the run support is this good, though, there won't be any problems.

Estope Scores Huge Upset in World Baseball Classic XXIV

Postby Estope » Sun Nov 18, 2012 10:13 pm

Estope used a five run 3rd inning to upset world #14 West Guiana. Home field advantage definitely played a factor as fans packed sold-out Thomas-Johnson Field. After falling behind early and allowing two runs in the first inning, Estope responded by scoring a single run off a homer by Corey Keys. The third inning provided a barrage of hits as batter after batter was able to pick up hits off starting pitcher Ray Lewis. Estope pitcher Eric Almanza was able put behind his bad start, in which he allowed a home run early, to earn the win. The bullpen put together a masterful performance and provided no opportunities for West Guiana to get back into the game. Colin Noakes earned the save by striking out two batters and allowing no hits or more importantly runs. This huge win provides huge momentum going into a crucial matchup against #41 Lymantatia. It will be a road game so there will be no home crowd. Lymantatia absolutely destroyed Birolika by a score of 9-3.

COASTAL ZANDAR SENTINEL

report compiled by Jacques Coleman

Well, ouch. Zandistan, welcome to the World Baseball Classic.

Zandistan, in their first ever competitive international baseball game, were rudely welcomed by previous hosts and 11th-ranked team in the world, the Qazox Eagles. Ace of the staff Rurik Mosgodev was chased early, giving up six runs in four innings. The bullpen did slightly better, allowing only three runs over the next five innings, but nobody could stop Ryan Dodge, as he smacked a homer in the 8th inning to cap off a four-hit, five-RBI day with a literal bang off the foul pole.

As for Zandistan’s response on offense, there was absolutely none. Indeed, the Qazoxian Ramon McDonald absolutely mowed his way through Zandistan, perfect through 7 and 2/3 innings, until Facundo Roque Carlitos and Felipe Tresor hit back-to-back singles. And even these singles, one a broken-bat bloop into right field and another a slow roller that Ryan Dodge couldn’t get to in time over at third, were weak hits. The only real hard-hit ball, other than Carlitos’ liner which Dodge caught to end the 5th, was Mark Vardell’s blast to left-center that died in the wind and was caught by Thomas Zimmermann on the warning track. Sadly, catcher Kamohui Sander was unable to finish the 8th-inning rally, and McDonald struck out the side, mowing down Q, Couch, and Migliotti to finish off his dominant performance.

Zandistan would have liked to take at least a glimmer of hope away from their disappointing opening game, in front of the home fans, no less. Many questioned manager William Zandington and the ZBEC’s choices of roster, but in his postgame presser, Zandington encouraged the nation that “it’s important we don’t knee-jerk too much from this situation. Qazox has a very skilled squad and I trust our players to come back and show what they’re capable of when we travel to Belshaw and Pevenessy.” Still, after some prodding, the press was able to get the manager to admit that he “might be considering some small tweaks” to the lineup.

Zandistan will need a much stronger performance in their next game, facing Belshaw and Pevenessy. Hopefully our second pitcher, Jack Pollard, can respond with a strong performance and do what Mosgodev could not. And as for Rurik, haha you get to face the Eagles again when we travel to Qazox later in the campaign. Good luck. You’ll need it.

WBC SUMMARY
vs. Qazox L, 0-9
Next: at Belshaw and Pevenessy

John Rogick 2.2 8 6 4 1
Simon Polch 3 5 2 1 3
Tim Asil 3.1 1 0 1 5
Alan Squash 1 2 1 1 2

The first innings were a dream for the Birolik side, sure Rogick got off to a shaky start allowing a run, but then he dismissed the rest. Then Bronx started off the Birolik side of the innings with a hit making it to first. Harlow then walked. Eventually it was young James Chester up at the plate, they had drawn it level but they wanted to take an advantage. Chester took the first for a strike, he then took a ball and let out a massive breath he'd been holding in (he was only 20 and ill prepared for playing in front of a crowd). The next pitch came and he grounded it out to right driving in the other two. However after the first innings runs the whole game plummeted like a rock. Lymantia then took five runs in the second and went on to score again in the 4th and 5th. Finally it came down to the ninth and it was already game over for Birolika 8-3 down, reliever Tim Asil had played out three innings without incident; but the batters failed to take advantage, and in the final innings a single run was the final nail in the coffin and the Birolik fans left disappointed.

With this we look like we might end up in baseball as we were in football and not like Ice hockey, which is a shame. This would have been our best shot at a win against a ranked side and it might be hard to claw back any chance of making it into the play-offs off the back of this. But maybe we shouldn't give in to defeat yet, we are only one game in.
With the abolition of private property, then, we shall have true, beautiful, healthy Individualism. Nobody will waste his life in accumulating things, and the symbols for things. One will live. To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all.

Hello, world.

It's me, Gareth Amatchi, here in the Zebra "bullpen" for the first time! I'm loving it. We Bears just won the national championship and had previously made the AIBC semifinals, so we're very excited for another go but it's another honor entirely to be here.

Well, Zwangzug recently won this national-team shebang, but things have been--not quite as great since, culminating in the last tournament when we couldn't even make it out of the group stage. So it was goodbye to all the champion stragglers, hello to a new generation. Literally the majority of our pitching--uh--"rotation" is completely new to WBC stuff, and most of the bench too. Marjorie (Cobara, Bears and now Zebras manager) reassures me I would have been a national team choice either way, but I'm not sure...

Anyway, with all these honors rolling in, some idiot abroad (I'll spare you the country's name, no one deserves guilt by association) asked if I wanted him to ghostwrite my "autobiography" for me. I told him I was still young and could write my own memoirs when the time came, thank him very much. Then another idiot here in Zwangzug was like "okay, we get it, you're an articulate dude and can write your own stuff. Chronicle everything that goes on in the bullpen--all you young pitchers, being pressed into relief service for the first time since third grade, get all the gossip on how petty things get. Then we'll totally publish it for the naive and innocent fans and dash their idealized visions of you! It'll be cool."

I told him where he can shove his post-whateverism. Um. It might have involved a couple expletives of the kind that might shock the fans? News flash: it's not all "what the bleep" in here. (Well, especially because I'm from Zwischen and apparently radio negotiations have, ahem, stalled again. But that's hardly "news.")

But hey. Not to brag, but we did totally win the championship. I'd like to think being a competent northpaw and a competent diarist are not totally incompatible, so here they are. My secret notes, on the seven of us newcomers. And who knows, maybe we'll stick together for the long haul?

I say the seven of us. There were only six here in Weatherdon today; Aminda Incer was a little "under the weather." Apparently it's just a woman thing and she'll be ready to go by the time her start comes around. The funny (or sad) thing is that there's apparently a bad virus sweeping the FTC, everybody's heard about it, so Boipelo (McEllow) is totally freaking out even though she assured us by videophone that it's not the same thing. And by "us" I mean "anyone who can understand her" which is not a lot of us but okay.

So, who was the first member of the Class of 24 to get to pitch? Actually, it was Peter (Butel-Tiand) from Logrove. I'm not completely jealous--most of us get to start and he doesn't--but it would have been fun for opening day. We totally jackstomped Weatherdon, too, which was nice? They have the DH, which means another of us Bears got to start, and Duha (Grower-Coack) totally lived up to the challenge, pushing in four of our eleven runs on a double in the second and a homer in the seventh.

Now we're off to Aels. Which is Tyneala. Kind of. Long story.
