Friendly Cup 6 Everything Thread

Hello and welcome to the nations of Swyftherth and Old Guard for the 6th edition of the Friendly Cup.

28 sign-ups have been reached, and as such 7 groups of 4 will be used, with the Groups being split over the two nations. How progression from the Groups will work is yet to be agreed, however, more details will be released in the coming days.

The group draw will occur at a later date, and more information regarding that and the actual tournament will follow shortly after that. However, it is currently set that the tournament will start a few days after World Cup Qualifying has finished.

In the mean time, here is some background country info:

Nation Overview - Old Guard

The nation of Old Guard is a small island, located at present within the region of Defending Hallow, located close to the sporting region of Esportiva. Its capital is Oldem, a small town of 13,000 peoples. The other hosting venues will be located within the island in small villages around the coast.

Our main airport, Tellabocari, is located very close to the capital, and receives flights predominantly from Apox, our protectorates, but also from the sporting regions of Esportiva, Rushmore and Atlantian Oceania.

The main language spoken in Old Guard is English, and the minority languages are French, Spanish, German and Mandarin.

Our currency is the Diblet, a small coin which has our national crest on one side, and an engraving of some seaweed on the other.

Nation Overview - Swyftherth

Swyftherth (officially the F.U.I.C.S) is a small island in the South-West of Esportiva and holds an interesting history. Nearly a hundred years ago now, the Swyftlandians ruled the land that Swyftherth resides on (Swyftherth only existed as a county of Swyftlandre), who in turn were ruled by Union Isle. That was until the war came, Swyftlandre ultimately won the war against Union Isle, despite the massive economical and human losses and Swyftlandre, which still has a Monarchy based culture and so the High Lord's of Swyftlandre replaced the Emperor of Union Isle, however, the county of Swyftherth didn't want to have a new monarchy and threatened to stop trade with the world if Swyftlandre did not lose the Government. After negotiations, Swyftherth was given permission to be a Special Administrative State of Swyftlandre and now runs with it's own rule and without link to the Monarchy. Our capital city is Sveinhart, home of two prominent Football Clubs in the Swyftlandre (and Swyftherth) Champions League.

Our currency is the Swyftlandian Di, a moderately average currency within the current economy, it is notable that the Di works in counts of a thousand rather than a hundred (i.e. £0.100 = £1, Ѻ0.1000 = Ѻ1). The language is known as Modern Swyftlandian (or more simply Swyftlandian) and is a mixture of English, Swedish, Irish and Cornish. But most speak English as a Second Language.

There aren't many stadia in Swyftherth, except for the two in Swyftherth so if we win this bid, we will build more Stadia. (Which will also hopefully encourage more Football team within Swyftherth)

Swyftherth stadia
Group A -
City of Sveinhart Stadium:
The Second largest Stadia in Swyftherth and home to big name team, Sveinhart FC, whom are always high ranking in the Swyftherth (and Swyftlandre) Champions League. The stadium is huge and holds 65,000 and is famed for it's intricate designs that line the outside of the Stadium that resemble the waves that roll furiously on the coast of Sveinhart.
Grenwich Park Stadium:
Near the Border of Swyftherth lies Grenwich, a popular tourist attraction due to the museums it holds, the Swyftherth History Museum and the Movie Museum. The Stadia itself is home to the Grenwich Park Rangers and holds 10,000 viewers.
Group C-
Mansbrook Stadium:
(For those playing here, Godmods, if you and your opponent has allowed them, are encouraged.)
Mansbrook is one of the most poverty-stricken places in Swyftherth, with the addition of this stadium only costing the town more. The city is full of Thugs and the Stadium is home to rats, fleas and the occasional mosquito (protective clothing is advised). Seats and Food Bars are usually left uncleaned and thus are covered in human and animal excrement. The playing field is also fairly bogged down, with the Left Goal Post constantly sinking 2m's into the Group before and during games games. It hosts as many people as can be squashed in there, but the estimate is about 7000. Tickets for this stadium range from a Ѻ10 to Ѻ20.
Bankstead Stadium:
Recently built up to accommodate matches in the 6th Friendly Cup, Bankstead Stadium holds no team. The Stadium houses a comfortable 10,200 Viewers.
Group F-
Hydra's Beach:
The other stadium of Sveinhart, Hydra's Beach is famed not for it's use for Football, but for it's use in the production of Arthur: Lord of the Seas, the best selling Stage-Production in Swyftlandre. This famous production has had a large impact on the team that owns it (Sveinhart Serpents) as it has allowed the team to acquire a good fan following due to the mythical stories that surround it.
Corden College Stadium:
For lack of any more professional stadium, the rather built-up and popular college grounds that host most of the Swyftherth and Swyftlandre College Championships has been included. It seats only 2500 people. Teams travelling here are given free dorms on the campus to stay in.

About the Paradystopi National Football Team:
Recently formed to inject some life into the Paradystopi National Sports Programme (the Paradystopi are a people with a strong cultural foundation and in the eyes of probably too many people, Sports are a 'low' form of entertainment), The Paradystopi Team is a mixture of knowledgeable older players, vitriolic youngsters and everything inbetween. Despite being new to the international arena, they have a strong work ethic and a fierce competitive streak.
Key Players:
K. Volgjsrhaad was the obvious choice for Goalkeeper. His imposing height and tremendous reach allow him to make light work of most aerial attacks and with the rigorous agility training he has imposed on himself, He could prove a difficult keeper to beat.
Captain S. Hope was initially second choice for captain, the role being primarily offered to V. Tarcka. Nevertheless, his calm persona and fearless tackling prowess has earnt him the respect of his team. Between S.Hope and his young vice-captain, R. Friend, the defence are possibly the strongest aspect of M. Hayduff's Team.
V. Tarcka dominates the midfield and is the lynchpin of the team. Pinpoint accurate long shots and passes are all too common from this extremely talented footballer. He did reject the captaincy as he didn't want the additional responsiblity to affect his game, having said this, many of the team view him as a 'spiritual' captain.
Y. Flodrantezt’rirhan does his very best to provide all the team's aggression. Can be very hot-headed and seems to be a magnet for cards and cautions. But on his day, he's a force of nature ...
J.J. Jabez may start on the bench, but he will be looking to score a few heartbreakers in the final minutes of play. Very quick on the counterattack. A great prospect for the future. R. Vhornam and W. Newsome completing a trio of youth talent looking for a place in the starting XI.

GK: Pedro Sanchez - Veteran Goalkeeper, makes few errors and is very agile for his age. Over 100 clean sheets for his club.
CD: George Huntsley - Oldest team member at 41, very experienced and keeps the team in order. Claimed that although he is getting, this will not be his last tournament.
CD: Kyle Bartington - Strong centre back, works well with Huntsley, as he took Bartington under his wing.
RB: Simon Gillingham - Very speedy and agile left back, usually bombs it down the wing in order to support attacking moves. Although sometimes leaves the defence too open, due to him often pushing far up the pitch.
LB: Steven Shorprey - A solid left back, able to play at centre back aswell, very experienced. Prone to injury, but run his hardest every match.
CDM: Alehondrez Alvarez - Provides protection for the defenders, usually holds back and is a ball winner. Not very fast, but Regains possession for his team.
LM: Peter Batson - Able to pick out those long passes in to the box, often drops back and helps in defence. Has great vision.
RM: Charles Huppberry - Very fast midfielder, crosses balls in and is the free-kick taker. Often shoots too much and is likely to use ranged shots.
CAM: Graeme Smith - The spear head of the midfield, works with forwards and often pushes up to play a 4-1-2-3. Strong but agile, he is always looking to receive the ball.
LF: Jacob Simonton - Very skillful, often too greedy, but has great contol and decent finishing. The penalty taker.
RF: Joe Benson - The star man, often the target for corners and crosses and has remarkable finishing record. Over 150 goals for his club team.

GK: Forrest Smith - Untested goalkeeper, but consistent none the less. Hoping to get valuable game time.
CB: Carlos Henderson - A defender that likes to help in attacking moves and is very strong.

St. Lucoa Tribune.

The players had arrived in Swyftherth after a long flight from St.Lucoa. For many of them it was their first time leaving their island. Win or lose the Friendly Cup would prove to be an interesting adventure for many of the young men who were playing for their country.

After the usual airport security checks the players checked in at their hotel and wasted no time in getting some practise before their opening match. The team made good use of the hotel's eleven-a-side football pitch, as they played on it for a full two hours, doing various drills and exercises. This also proved a chance to get used to the Swyftherth climate.

After training was over, the St. Lucoan national team manager, John Fairbanks went over the team's game plan for the opening game. It was decided that the team would play a little more defencive than usual. The team's star man Joe Benson said, "This competition will not only give us a chance to win some silverware, it will also give us a chance to bond as a team. The current team has not played many matches together, so this is a great chance to get some matches under our belts and hopefully give the travelling fans something to sing about."

We all know that the Friendly Cup is a relatively new tournament and is smaller in scale when compared to the World Cup, but as Joe Benson said this competition is a brilliant chance for our national team to bond and it is also a great chance for St. Lucoa to make herself a contender in the footballing world.

DBK Sports - Football - Our Friendly Cup 6 group opponents rated

Here, we will rate our group opponents for Friendly Cup 6, which will be held in Old Guard and Swyftherth. We are Group G, alongside the following three teams. The rank of each team will be in brackets beside their name. If a team is unranked, they will have no number, and instead have "UR" in the brackets. The three teams are:

Gaveo (9): We know the Gaveoans well. We have faced them five times in the past, with us winning four, but losing the other. One of these meetings was in the 3rd Friendly Cup (held in Swyftlandre), which took place three years ago (March 2013). Gaveo have good players, but I'm expecting a 2-1 win against them.
Valqox (UR): It'll be weird facing Valqox for two reasons. One, their team consists of moles, and two, Valqox is technically our colony! Very weird. Anyway, Valqox were one of the teams at the first Friendly Cup, which was held by us way back in August 2012. They came third. However, 42 months (3 years 6 months) on, they have returned, and are unranked. Because of this, I think we'll find it easy against them. I think we'll run out 4-0 winners.
Savski Venac (UR): We'd heard of this country before they signed up for FC6. They have entered the World Cup at least once before (World Cup 60), and there may have more that they entered. Anyway, in the Friendly Cup, they are unranked, and we are expecting a healthy 4-0 win.

If our predictions come true, we will gain 9 points, which would be enough to top the group.

Mabren, KIN - Today, we have been drawn to Group F. We have jumped
to rank seven. It is very probable that we will go to the playoffs and hopefully,
finally, win something. Kintran fans are revved from the world cup, and our
other national team is here to play. Here is our group:

Now, Old Guard, our only serious competition, has been crushed in past tournaments.
Group F is in Swyftherth, so it will be neutral. They have had some pretty bad losses against
top 10 teams, so we expect a win.

Other than that, with our soccer team on a roll, it's pretty obvious that we will win against
Kostabakea. Some thing will go with Quebec. They are pretty much unheard of in the soccer
world. Hopefully we can bring home a trophy here.
