JIM Newsletter - Rogers throws down gauntlet

Yesterday, Buster Rogers threw down the gauntlet to his WGPC rivals at the launch of the team's WGPC9 campaign. The 56-year old stated that this season would see JIM become a force for race wins, not just minor points. These claims were backed up by both drivers, Matthew Portland and Lee Rogers.

"I'm extremely pleased with the car and the team," said Portland, "Make no mistake, JIM will be at the front this season, and we will be there throughout the season, I guarantee it."

Teammate Lee Rogers agreed, saying, "We're putting every last ounce of energy into this team, and we will be race winners before this season is out."

Work on the JIM GP-002 has been going on as long as the GP-001. Chief Designer Clyde Anderson explained the design schedule thusly, "We basically had two designs, one much safer one, the GP-001, and a much quicker, but potentially less reliable one. Ever since I was hired, basically, the plan was to run the safer model first, receive feedback from it, and apply that to the GP-002. The car is fast, it is reliable, and in the right hands, it can win races, even championships."

Emberton: "Last season was a sham."
Ricky Emberton has just this morning released a statement concerning yesterday's launch of the JIM GP-002.

"Last season was a complete sham. Buster gave me a below-average car, and expected me to do the impossible with it. Then this year, JIM have a better car. Only problem is, Portland's in my damn seat. I actually get a chance to run at the front consistently, but apparently getting the team's best finish isn't bloody enough to get a shot! Though I feel sorry for Matthew actually. After all, he isn't exactly Buster's son, is he?"

The 20-year old Emberton then went on to state that he is still hunting for a WGPC seat, and vowed that he would be back in a WGPC car by the end of WGPC9.

WEST SCOVILLE, Tesla (BPA) -- Excitement ripples through the city of West Scoville as they prepare to host the second Grand Prix of The Babbage Islands on the Moss-Clark Circuit. The race opens the ninth season of F1 racing for the world championship.

This year's race will also feature the debut of a Babbage-based team in the world F1 circuit, Woods Motorsport F1. After the success of Chip Woods and Cathy Trillium in the first international stock car series, owner T. Allan Woods worked in earnest to secure one of the team slots for the new Grand Prix season.

The Woods drivers will be 17-year-old Marguerite Trillium, driving number 24, and former Klubo de Babaĝaj Aŭtomobilantoj (KBA) driving champion Andy Babcock driving the number 25 Tesla-Benz. Gwenllian Nash will serve as test driver and a backup if needed.

Marguerite is the younger sister of NSSCRA star Cathy Trillium. She is a four-time national karting champion and a two-time national formula driving champion in her own right. The 28-year-old Babcock has a long career in stock cars and midgets, and is the only driver to win the KBA Race of Champions for the overall national championship twice.

Whilst there are questions in some circles about the less-experienced Trillium being in the #1 car, Babcock is the first to downplay them. "Maggie will be bigger than her sister. She has wonderful natural gifts on the track, and she'll be a great off-track face for the team. You all know I've never done the press thing well," he continued, to a knowing outburst of laughter from the assembled media. "The team comes first. Mr. Woods has built an international champion before, and I'm pleased just to be a part of his new project."
NS World Cup: Runner-up 55/59; Third place 50/52/58/62/63; Host 49/54/60.

OOC: You aren't anywhere. Your sign-up was rejected, because your drivers have to have the same stats as your car, with one bonus point.

NOT TO BE SECOND AGAIN, PLEASE!
Globo/Velog comes for another season, and with surprise move

It happened in the seventh edition of the WGPC, and seen as a great result due to the fact it was only the second participation of the team in the competition. Bruno Borghi, now at team WendellCorp of Nethertopia, was able to fight for the drivers' title until the last race, finishing in second. Same for Globo/Velog in the constructors', but finished second. When the eighth edition came, the Cafundelense team had a bad start, but quickly went to top with amazing performances of the two drivers, even with many reliability problems with the car, that deeply harmed the team in some races. The team won most races than any other, and with a good advantage over them. But in the end, André Luís Caconde was close to winning the title... and finished second. Globo/Velog appeared to be domination the competition... but finished second. This time, there was some frustration, although it was seen as a natural result, and even a good one. Now it seems the team will take a different approach, as a lot of money was spent in order to transform Globo/Velog F1 in, once again, one of the biggest contenders for the title.

There is optimism inside the team, which is going to the first race of the season in The Babbage Islands. Caconde is controlling the number of cigarettes smoke each day, although continues with the same dose of brandy, required for his body to work well, according to him. Estive Formoso had a good experience as an one-race driver last season, but now returns to only command the team. And the second driver only was decided last week. It seemed the inexperienced Ivan Funes would be the one, but suddenly Formoso announced the signing of former WGPC champion Joe Allon, from Candelaria And Marquez, who was with no team following the absence of the Candelariasians in the competition. With the car number 4, Allon announced that he wants to fight for the trophy, and that Caconde (number 3) will have to work hard to comprove the theoric fact that he is the driver one. This was the proof that the team's intentions are serious, and ambitious. Two top drivers, able to fight for the title, and a car that was close to win twice. Will this work? This we can't say, but The Babbage Islands will be the first test.

Due to scorination issues, qualification results will be delayed.

Scorination will now be done by Krytenia, who is taking over this season.

OOC: Sorry for any possible god-modding in the post, but I just want to make a point.

Le Mans corner, Moss-Clark Circuit, West Scoville, Tesla, Babbage Islands

A sea of purple and gold Kenavtans extends over the stands at the Le Mans corner of the Moss-Clark Circuit as the drivers take their final qualification laps, except for a few at the top. The atmosphere there is not very festive. Frowns are seen every where, and any vendors or other tournament personnel are quietly escorted out of the way. This could be a mob at any moment. Every driver who screams by is booed mercilessly.

KMN studio: Poiuytrewq, Kenavt
Channel 16

"Hello, and this is Kenavt Media's SportsMecca 7 o'clock daily roundabout, bringing you the latest from any sport news. I'm Bob Bernstein, and joining me is my co-host Sam Frioud, and our first story is from the World Grand Prix Championships. Sam?"

"Thank you, Bob. The World Grand Prix Championships have just started here in the Babbage Islands. Qualifying was today, and the race is slated to be tomorrow. However, there is one problem. I'll go down to our man at the spot, Fred Askt."

"Thank you, Fred. I'm down here at the Moss-Clark Circuit, at an S-turn corner called 'Le Mans'. As you can see behind me, there is a sea of purple and gold, a patriotic show of support from our brothers abroad. However, as Sam said, there is a problem."

"What is it, Sam?"

"Well, Bob, this five-thousand strong group behind me is the infamous Purple Pirate Club, which is led by the great racing enthusiast Sherlock Tywer. They show up for almost every race in Kenavt, and ones that involve the nation outside. But today, they are here to protest, which they are very good at. It worked successfully at Colbrooke in '02 and Rednalyn in '05. You see, the Correa TCF1 Petrol team sent in a request to join the Grand Prix for this season, its ninth. However, their application was rejected by the leaders of this Grand Prix. These fans are here in protest against this action. At the very least they are looking for Correa TCF1 to be here in 2010, and at the most... well... let's just say that the drivers of these fabulous Formula One machines better watch out around this corner."

"Thank you Sam. All that we know about this late-breaking story is that the PPC left early morning two days ago, and arrived bright and early today.

The application sent in by the Correa TCF1 team was rejected for unknown reasons. Many of us are racing fans, and were saddened by the loss, but looked hopeful for next year. Our very own Askyton was slated to be the Kenavtan entry in an international Grand Prix, in fact, and plans were in motion. However, the application was flat out denied by the president of the WGPC, and the board of advisors. Sherlock Tywer was kind enough to tell us that they plan to be here all fifteen races of the ninth WGPC, and have been rumored to have sent a threat to the president of the WGPC. We'll be updating this story over the next month as it continues."

"Thank you, Fred. Our next story involves the Kenavtan application for the second International Futsal tournament, which has been accepted..."

For those 3million people watching QPBC at 3 o’clock in the morning they were treated to a brief report from The Babbage Islands Moss-Clark Circuit in between the many quality programs the channel had to offer.

Reporting live from The Babbage Islands, it’s me, Arturo Gattuso for QPBC motor sports. The big news from the track is that Queer Poco el Mono Ara’s own Monarch Race Team find themselves in a superb position to claim victory in the first race of the season for the second year running with Ryan Lilley sitting in pole.
Lilley burst on to the scene last year picking up the victory in his first ever professional grand prix and will be looking to repeat the feat this year and win the season opener. His team mate Fernando Rodriguez finds himself comfortably tucked in 6th position on the third row.
Monarch find themselves in a commanding position being the only team with both drivers starting the race in the top on the grid. We got a quick word with team principal Prince Mohammed Hasan Bakhiri who commented after the qualifying performance,

“It’s a great effort considering we haven’t made many changes from last year’s car, maybe it’s down to the experience gained in the previous season, I think the lads have come on leaps and bounds since their first races. Being on the front row gives us an obvious advantage, we’ve just got to stay there round the first corner and hopefully if everything goes to plan we can win the race.”

Commenting on his expectations for this year Prince Mohammed stated,

“Last season went quite well and we picked up some good points. When Ryan won the first race last season we thought it may have been a fluke but we kept going and got plenty of points on the board. It was a tremendous team effort and we hope this year we can build on it and surpass it.”

The race coverage will be live on QPBC tomorrow from The Babbage Islands. So join me, Arturo Gattuso for all the race build up and an interview with Monarch Race Team’s test driver Victor Osgoode.

JIM Newsletter - Qualifying 'Somewhat encouraging'

JIM fans may be dissapointed to see their drivers in 9th and 14th after qualifying for the season opener in The Babbage Islands, but Buster Rogers assures fans that JIM will be in the hunt for major points during the race.

"Qualifying hasn't necessarily been our strong point. If you remember last season, we were embarrassingly slow due to our car being stronger on heavier fuel loads than lighter loads. The JIM GP-002, from what we've gathered, has this condition as well, though not the the extent of the GP-001. The fact that we're 1 and a half to 2 tenths off of pole is somewhat encouraging, and I'm confident that Lee and Matthew can make it up during the race."

Lee Rogers will be starting from 9th, with Matthew Portland starting 14th after picking up some suspension damage somewhere around the lap.

LINGUISTIC CONFUSION BLAMED FOR REVÉL-CELESTAR EXCLUSION

The exclusion of Revél-Celestar-Feria from the 9th season of the World Grand Prix Championship following administrative problems was due to a translation error, L'Étoile has learned from reliable sources.

Although speculation has centred on nationality and work permit issues over the sponsorship deal with the Pacitalian automotive company Feria and the team's Pacitalian driver, sources within the team have instead revealed the surprising truth: the instructions on completing the application package were incorrectly translated into French for team chief executive Gilles Desbois.

With deadlines looming and the staff translator not being in the office at the moment and requesting that people leave any work to be translated, Desbois's secretary reportedly found a high school student who was taking French and bullied her into translating the instructions. The student did not translate "car" into French, not knowing the proper word to use and assuming her work would be vetted. It was not.

The result was that Gilles Desbois became confused over whether he had to specifically assign buses for his drivers or only use one bus for both of them, which had been the practice in previous WGPC seasons, and in completing the application package decided to stick with the previous format given the confusion.

The team has not been available for comment as they were all angrily playing golf in the middle of a thunderstorm.

CAFUNDELENSE-CANDELARIASIAN COMBINATION TOPS FIRST RACE
Allon wins in The Babbage Islands - Caconde ends in fifth

news of Folha da Capital - online version

The first challenge of the season came for Globo/Velog F1. It was time to forget the mix of good and bad moments which happened in the previous championship, ending in a somewhat frustrating second position in both standings, due to the fact that the team was dominating the competition until the last races, and also because it was the second consecutive time that situation happened. And there were changes in the team, one in special. Bruno Borghi, the track scholar, left the team for the entrance of Joe Allon, a more solid driver who doesn't seem to have any strange rituals before the race. During the qualifying and the moments before the race, he seemed fully concentrated in doing a good performance. On the other hand, André Luís Caconde was being himself, talking loud to the people who came to get autographs or interview him, trying to kiss the good-looking women and accepting any kind of alcoholic drinks given to him... although he didn't abandon his beloved brandy, carrying with him a 10L gallon. They just parted ways when Caconde went to his car, but not without a warm goodbye kiss and a conversation.

The qualifying wasn't very positive for Globo/Velog F1. With Caconde suffering the impact of drinking until late in the previous night and Joe Allon still getting himself adapted to the new car, times were very poor. But everything would be different in the proper race. As usual with races of the NationStates World Grand Prix Championship, the ones starting in the first positions are far from guaranteed of finishing in the same positions. Car performance and strategies play a major role in this category, and we must say Globo/Velog did a good job. When the race started, Rodriguez of Monarch had an outstanding first lap, getting the second position behind his team mate. Marqueste kept third, with Russell Jones as fourth. In the back positions, the former WGPC champion Allon was showing why he won a trophy two years ago, winning many positions, with André Luís Caconde zigzagging to the front, with all other drivers afraid of his irregular way of driving. Nearly the middle of the race, top ten positions were: Lilley (MON), Rodriguez (MON), Marqueste (DTC), Allon (GLV), Jones (ATR), Neuville (THI), Nieminen (SVS), Rogers (JGV), Berry (BCK) and Caconde (GLV).

At that point, Rodriguez appeared to have problems with the performance of his car, being forced to go to pits, returning behind Allon. But both Allon and Caconde, together with Bostopian Jack Berry, only stopped in the pits once, which was a very risky option, as in this race this possibility wasn't seen as being surely the best one. But, thanks to the conditions of the track in the day, it was. When Lilley stopped for his last pit stop, Allon went up to the first position, with Berry as second. Unfortunately for Caconde, both Monarch cars ended between him and the Bostopian, giving him only the fifth position. Marqueste, with a fine race, drove his car to a sixth position, with Jones and Rogers battling until the last lap for the seventh position, dispute won by Rogers. Neuville, though, will be disappointed, as he was safe in seventh until he was hit by Nieminen, and forced to pit. Nieminen had even worse luck, having to abandon the race when a point could be won. In the end, a very good start by Globo/Velog F1, with the Cafundelenses leading both the drivers and constructors standings... wait, only the constructors, as the driver of the Cafundelense team leading the standings is Candelariasian.

We've Got Better
Mirrors duo cite 'improvement' at Moss-Clark

In their second season of the World Grand Prix Championship, the Mirrors boys of Rupert Holdsworth and the slightly more famous Jai Kardaeri finished twenty-fourth and sixteenth respectively. Having been the third-best team of the previous season and having the first- and ninth-best drivers in the sport, you'd imagine this would be a bit of a downer. You'd think that a defending World Champion finishing well out of the new, strange and highly exclusive set of shortened point-scoring positions, with his team-mate also being lapped in the first race of the season would raise some eyebrows in the Mirrors garage. There was nothing to be seen.

"We've improved here," said Holdsworth with a wry smile, "I moved up a whole place from last season's results, while Jai has moved from a retirement to sixteenth position. If we can match that sort of improvement in every race, we'll be a happy team.'

It's not a great track for Mirrors, but after a fairly poor - but consistent - session of the strange new single-block of Qualifying, it was a decent foundation to set up another good season. Mirrors started a little slowly last season, but by the end of it there was only one winner, and that was the driver of the #1 car this season: Jai Kardaeri.

"I've yet to get to grips with the idea that it's a thirty-car Quali Three," he admitted, "which does get quite exciting towards the end but is fairly pointless for the first thirty or so minutes. Knockout is much more fun," said the man who took two Pole Positions in WGPC8, "but we have to race under the rules as given, and the harder the challenge, the greater the victory."

JIM Newsletter - Rogers 7th while Portland retires

It was quite an eventful race for JIM at the Grand Prix of Babbage Islands. Lee Rogers drove well from his 9th place grid slot and wound up a respectable 7th, though not the big points the team was looking for. Matthew Portland was in fact in the better position to score more points, specifically right at the end of the race. The race featured showers from the mid-point which required a switch to intermediates. This scuppered Rogers' hopes of moving forward on fuel strategy, as the rain came 6 laps before his scheduled pitstop. It quite benefitted Matthew Portland, however, who felt much more comfortable after a mediocre start.

By lap 43, the two JIM cars were nose to tail, and a couple laps later, Portland passed a much more conservative Rogers. At the very end of the race, however, it looked like slicks were definately the tyre to be on as the sun came back out, drying what little water remained on the track. Portland took the oppurtunity, and switched to his newest, softest slick tyres in order to take advantage. He charged around the track on his outlap on a record pace, before hitting the only wet patch still on the track, at the Le Mans corner. Portland went into the gravel, which ended his race.

Towards the end of the race, Lee Rogers caught the Aston-Tickford Racing car of Russell Jones. Rogers, having saved his tyres early on, found passing the Krytenian a cinch, and was well on his way to catching John Marqueste by the time the checkered flag dropped.

WGPC7 champion Joe Allon finally returned to the winners circle, with Globo/Velog F1, the perennial runners-up looking to finally become the champions. Polesitter Ryan Lilley was unable to maintain the pace, but still finished a fine third place.

West Scoville, Tesla, The Babbage Islands (SP) Grand Prix of The Babbage Islands on the Moss-Clark Circuit
The ninth season of the Grand Prix Championship opened with the SVS Motorsports driver Sauli Nieminen (#27) qualifying 10th, and Bruno Carvalho (#26) qualifying 16th. We expect better from both of them. The race itself was even worse. The Sibirsky Capitalizt national American football team, and President George Selby, in the Babbage Islands for the upcoming World Bowl Tournament were on hand to watch the debacle. Sauli Nieminen was not able to finish the race, retiring after 39 laps. Engine failure was the official statement from the team. Bruno Carvalho fared little better, finishing in the 24th position. The winner of the big race was Joe Allon of Globo/Velog F1 from Cafundeu. His teammate André Luís Caconde, finished fifth and they now lead both the Driver's and Constructor's Championships. The Sibirskyan team has no points. Up next is the Bostopia GP at the Fort Boston Circuit. We wish our drivers luck, and looks like they will need it.

WEST SCOVILLE, Tesla (BPA) -- The Woods Motorsport F1 team called it a shakedown. Certainly it was a tough debut for a new team, and the home crowd would have liked more. But the second Grand Prix of The Babbage Islands is in the books.

Joe Allon of Globo/Velog F1 was the winner by a comfortable 35-second margin, ahead of Jack Berry of Brackfrome GP and both Monarch Race Team drivers, Ryan Lilley and Fernando Rodriguez.

Local driver Marguerite Trillium, 17, finished just out of the driver points in ninth place. But she established herself as a figure to watch and a media darling in her first F1 start. The family connection to Cathy and the home setting certainly contributed, but there was a steady flow of reporters and photographers throughout the team's time in West Scoville. Teammate Andy Babcock was four places back in 13th.

Ryan Lilley of Monarch Race Team repeated his pole position of the first race in the second, the Grand Prix of Bostopia. But, this time, there were better news for the Cafundelenses in the qualifying session than what happened in The Babbage Islands, as André Luís Caconde managed to qualify in the second position, with a good lap time. When he left the car, dizzy due to the combination of his favourite sport of drinking and driving a racing car really fast, many reporters surrounded him to hear about his good qualification. He opened the mouth to comment, but his breath was with an awful smell, and all the reporters got away from him, some even having to be helped by medics on the place. Fortunately, one of them was smart enough to leave a recorder near him, getting his interview. He said: "Well... the car ran fast and, when I noticed, I had finished the lap with the second best time... that's good, but last race Allon won starting from the back, and we know these things happen... man, I am really tired, need to eat something than take a nap for some hours... not less than twelve, I think is good... see on the party at night."

Caconde's words were those, difficult to be "translated" from his voice, which was nearly impossible to understand. And he is right. Allon, who once again had a below average qualification, was able to reach the first place in The Babbage Islands even without starting in the top positions. Lilley, who was pole last race and repeated the performance today, only finished fourth. So, the real truth about which driver is more likely to win the race in Bostopia will only be discovered tomorrow, when the cars will drive once again in the Fort Boston Circuit.

The final segment of QPBC’s coverage of the Bostopia Qualifying.

Great news for Monarch Race Team as Ryan Lilley clinches his second pole position in as many races. Tomorrow’s race will perhaps be a chance for Ryan to prove that he is not only good during the qualifying sessions but can actually handle the pressure of leading a race. Finishing third off pole last time out was a good result, considering a mistake by the pit crew which set him back – one which the driver has yet to even elude towards. Ryan managed to maintain a podium finish and team mate Fernando Rodriguez also picked up points however the likelihood of that happening here in Bostopia is slim considering he starts way back down the grid in 16th. A spin on his flying lap set the Pocoan driver backand hopefully during the race he can turn some of his early pace around to make up positions.

“I think I see Ryan Lilley, I’m going to try get a word with him. Ryan, Ryan, can we get a quick word?”

“Yeah.. sure”

“How do you feel about scoring your second pole position in two races?”

“Great, yeah the cars like a fucking bullet this year despite the minimal changes. Hopefully we can turn the qualifying into points”

“So the car feel’s good?”

“Yeah. They tweaked some stuff during the off season and now the car feels amazing.”

“So what about Fernando, he had a pretty big spin in qualifying?”

“What about Fernando, we may be a team, but first and foremost I’m racing for myself. But if you care to check the results of the last race Joe Allon won the race from 17th, lots of crazy shit happens in formula one.”

“Thanks for your time Ryan. Good look tomorrow. Apologies to anybody who was offended by Ryan's language just then. With live television you can’t anticipate those kind of moments. I’m Arturo Gatusso and this has been the coverage of the Bostopian grand prix qualifying. Tune in tomorrow for all the race action live and I get a go on the track riding along with the safety car.

Fort Boston, Bostopia (SP) Nieminen Qualifies Fourth
SVS Motorsports driver Sauli Nieminen (#27) had a great day at qualifying finishing just 8 hundredths of a second behind the pole winner Ryan Lilley (#14) of the Monarch Race Team from the great nation of Queer Poco el Mono Ara. It is his second pole position in just two races of this young season. The other Sibirskyan driver, Bruno Carvalho (#26) qualified 21st. Joe Allon (#4) of Globo/Velog F1 from the great nation of Cafundeu, who is the current Driver's Championship leader with 10 points qualified 15th. In the first race of the season, the one he won he qualified 17th so this driver certainly knows how to pass. As always, we wish Bruno Carvalho and Sauli Nieminen luck.
