OLD GUARD HOST BID

Nation Overview
The nation of Old Guard is a small island, located at present within the Pacific. Its capital is Oldem, a small town of 13,000 peoples. The other hosting venues will be located within the island in small villages around the coast.

Our main airport, Tellabocari, is located very close to the capital, and receives flights predominantly from Apox, our protectorates, but also from the sporting regions of Esportiva, Rushmore and Atlantian Oceania.

The main language spoken in Old Guard is English, and the minority languages are French, Spanish, German and Mandarin.

Our currency is the Diblet, a small coin which has our national crest on one side, and an engraving of some seaweed on the other.

Format
[EDIT] - As sign-ups have closed and there are only 12 nations, I will change the format. There will be 4 groups of 3 with the top two going through from each group into the quarter-finals. The tournament will proceed with the standard knock-out phases after that.

Scorination and RP Bonuses
The tournament would be scorinated using the SQIS formula on xkorinate. RP's will be graded from 1 to 3 based on a combination of three factors: creativity, quality and completeness (eg. does the roleplay feel complete, does it finish (unless its an ongoing story), grammar and spelling). The roleplay bonuses will be using the additive style on xkorinate.

Tiebreakers
Points
Goal Difference
Goals For
Head-to-head points
Head-to-head goal difference

Experience
My hosting experience is not extensive, however, with my master nation, I have scorinated two seasons of a football league, and the Renaissance Cup when I was in the region of Renaissance. I have also spent the last month tinkering around on xkorinate so I feel I know it well.

I hope that all participants will take this bid seriously and feel free to ask any questions regarding its content. Thank you.

With their capital, Mardi, NSI has shown good progress on football, with a 2nd place at the Romili Cup and a 4th place at the Baptism of Fire. Whether NSI is here to stay or if they will have to stay outside of the top teams, it all depends on their participation at the Friendly Cup.

OOC: There's lots of godmods here, but as FSS hasn't posted any RP permissions, I took the liberty to godmod.

Hujukialand's Forregitankuta *

First ever international win!

Yep! We've won our first international match yesterday! We defeated the Free Swiss States 4 - 2 on a match in which the Hujukian attack was clearly unstoppable, while the non-existant Hujukian defense wasn't as horrible as it usually is.

The goals:
2nd minute: Free kick for the FSS, the assigned player scores from afar and gives their team the lead early on the match.
4th minute: Not a free kick this time, but a penalty, the same player scores by sending the ball to the left post of the goalkeeper, while Ka couldn't stop the ball.
10th minute: Magnificent header by Kijakahalafettarogoulasmendarutukkukullajuku after a corner. Hujukialand was still down.
80th minute: Mikankankallekiamanaka scores a free kick from Hujukialand's half, the goalkeeper of the FSS was looking at a bird passing by and the Hujukian player took advantage to equalize.
90th minute: Kikenka and Kinaja, our two best players, kept passing the balls between themselves and driblling players until they got to be one-on-one with the goalkeeper, they passed the ball to Muka and he scored. We were now winning, and the match had almost ended.
90th minute: One of FSS players shot just after his teammate passed him the goal from the middle of the field after the goal, but it bounced on Kokolokohojokalamenirstalumbana's back and, just as on the second goal, the goalkeeper was distracted and let the ball in without knowing, 4 - 2 and the match was officially over.

As you know, our Swiss football team has been recently sent to compete abroad. Here we are with head coach Jonah Nizzy, to talk about the tournament. Sadly, at press time, it has just been confirmed that the Free States have been knocked out of the tournament. Now, I'm your host Bob Bobley, and this is Jonah Nizzy.

Bob: Jonah, nice to meet you. I'm sorry to hear about the team being knocked out. What can you tell us about the matches?
Well Bob as you know, the Swiss team has been in a lot of competitions recently, all around the world. It's been a lot of travel, and not much time for rest or training. So it's no wonder we weren't able to perform as well as we could have in this tournament.

Bob: So it's confirmed, then, that we're out?
[i]Yes. We only have 1 point, and we don't have any more games. There is absolutely zero chance at qualifying, which is unfortunate. But you know, we gave it our best, and there's plenty more coming up.

Bob: Speaking of which, Jonah; where are you guys headed next?
We're off to Gaveoan, for the Cup there. Maybe we'll win, or even bring home a few trophies.

Bob: Good luck then!
Thanks brotha.

This is Bob Bobley, signing off. Back to you, Karen.

The Slembana Times: Decent result in Friendly Cup

By Peter Whiteman, chief football reporter at the O Gone Stadium, Kettle, Old Guard (attendance 5,321)

Our first match in the second Friendly Cup in Old Guard has ended in a 2-2 draw with Max empire.

We opened the scoring in the 2nd minute, when Val Kylx headed home a cross from Finlay Yalnif at the back post. We were dominant after that goal, with Max empire’s goalie, Kaylontor Herplamant, saving shots from Kylx, Dorrin Forrester, Yalnif, and Jyvx Dagens. However, the Maxians equalized in the 29th minute, when their star striker Merolanton Mertaloxkon volleyed home from 25 yards. No more goals were scored in the first half, which ended 1-1.

Max empire got off to a flying second-half start, when Lenbar Xandarx curled home a free-kick to send Max empire wild, and give them a shock lead against us, the 141st best team in the world.

We tried to score after that, but Max empire were just too good. However, we eventually got an equalizer in the last minute of stoppage time, when Yuppë Tárnix’s cross found substitute Haydn Golpix, who headed home to score his first international goal, sending our fans wild.

Both Gokoloko Munika Kokella Metallio Forretio Mitalakun Korekianakelle decided to congratulate Kollembiakajukenkalekamanabrastetoletleostikama for his excellent job as the manager of the criminals. Both footballistic jobs and disciplinary jobs, as the amount of crimes commited by the Hujukian national team was as little as 22, just 22. No more than 22. With only 4 of them being punishable by prison. That was really an achievemnt for everyone.
However, Kollembiakajukenkalekamanabrastetoletleostikama wasn't on his room, he was robbing an Old Guard's bank somewhere on Old Guard. So, they had an awesome idea! Robbing him! They took some of his things and hid them in their room. They were missing the good old days in Hujukialand. Although they hadn't been on Old Guard for more than a week.
Both Gokoloko Munika Kokella Metallio Forretio Mitalakun Korekianakelle thought they had the right to do it, after all, they had scored both goals that day against Union Isle.

The Slembana Times: Biggest win yet

By Peter Whiteman, chief football reporter at the O Gone Stadium, Kettle, Old Guard (attendance 6,534)

We have recorded our biggest-ever international win – thrashing North Blue Island 5-1 today in Friendly Cup 2. This result sends us through to the quarter-finals of the Friendly Cup, where we will face Texacano.

We opened the scoring in the 10th minute, when Finlay Yalnif’s cross found Val Kylx, who banged home a volley – his 25th international goal. North Blue Island equalized in the 19th minute, when their star striker looped a volley in over Toby Gapman, our goalkeeper. However, we went into half-time 2-1 up, when Kylx successfully scored a penalty, awarded for a foul on Dorrin Forrester. This goal was scored in the 39th minute.

In the second half, we ran riot, scoring three more goals to completely kill the game off. First, Kylx completed his hat-trick in the 53rd minute, when he lobbed the ball over NBI’s goalkeeper from 25 yards. Then, in the 74th minute, Forrester played the ball to Kylx. Kylx backheeled it back to Forrester, who lobbed the ball over NBI’s goalie and in. And then, in the 89th minute, substitute Rodrick Summers, who’d only been on the pitch for two minutes, headed home a Yuppë Tárnix cross. This goal was Summers' first on the international stage, on his international début.

Maxopolis Times: Max Empire in the Quarter-Finals!!!!!

It has been announced that Our Glorious Emire has succsesfully qualified for the Quarter-Final!!!!! Our Team will face Kitsunia-Déesse, hopefully to make us have our first international win. Till now, all of our games have been draws, but lets hope we produce a win n the quarter-Finals. " I guarantee the nation", sais Coach Opoloxonite, " We will try our best to win." But the National Sports League President, Miles Qurtzz has doubts. " A guarantee to try their best is NOT good enough!!!!", he sais. " We need a guaranteed win."

ON ITV
FOOTBALL TALK
with Adam Cole, Lewis Knight and Brian Laparca

Adam: So, time to talk about the Friendly Cup II.

Lewis: Of course, of course, the tournament is already on the Second Phase.

Adam: And let's start with Group 1, with host nation Old Guard facing off Unzucneru Association powerhouse Kitsunia-Déesse and Texacano.

Brian: Well, I think that group was slightly easy to predict, right from the fact that it was a bunch of Magic Kitsunes facing normal human teams.

Lewis: Do not screw up with La Déesse's boys! They didn't dominate the group, though, even managed to tie with Texacano. Poor participation from Old Guard, though.

Brian: Well, a nation named Old Guard seems to fit more in Curling or something like that.

Lewis: But we can't ignore an opponent just because of its name. Remember that the opponents from NSI in Baptism of Fire weren't that normal as well... aside from Apox, they were all slightly strange.

Adam: Let's move on to Group 2, then.

Brian: Hujukialand could win a tournament of name length. Their striker only has already more letters than a market bill!

Lewis: It was a prospectless group, really. A little like Group 1.

Adam: And your thoughts about Group 3?

Brian: WE SHOULD'VE BEATEN VLISSENGEN. FOR REAL. I can't stand that, we only qualified thanks to Goal Difference, and that's because Gregosh couldn't capitalize as well.

Lewis: I think that the title of the tournament, Friendly Cup, kinda made us expect an easier group or just not play as we should. Well, I guess the Marills have learned their lesson.

Adam: And last, but not least, Group 4.

Brian: Now that's a group I can see some highlights from. Max Empire and Slembana played decently, North Blue Island sucked though.

Lewis: They were actually fighting for it. Hard to expect but, yeah.

Adam: And for the Quarter-Finals, Kitsunia-Déesse takes on Max Empire.

Brian: I call Max Empire, though the Kitsunes may upset.

Lewis: Do not screw up with La Déesse's boys! I bet on K-D, man.

Adam: Heh, Hujukialand vs. Gregosh?

Brian: Hujukialand. Their long names are scary, Gregosh will pay more time trying to read their names, rather than face them.

Adam: NSI vs. Union Isle.

Lewis: I would bet in NSI, just by the fact that they are us. I dunno, the Marills owe us a victory, after all.

Adam: Slembana vs. Texacano?

Brian: Slembana. I kinda feel that Group 4 will put up a challenge, and their leader knows how to put challenges on the table.

Adam: And we will be right back with the new allignement of the Union Leagues, with Union League 4 and 5 on the making. Just a small sponsor time and we'll be here.

What's Sportsmanship?

Hujukialand won against Gregosh today by a surprising 4 - 0, with four goals from Gokoloko Munika Kokella Metallio Forretio Mitalakun Korekianakelle Muka, who was carrying a knife and actually stabbed a player once, although the stabbing didn't cause severe damage. It certainly wasn't sportsmanship, as Muka threatened Max Empire's players on the 4 goals. But, hey, we won 4 - 0! Our best international win!

Word of the day:
Sportsmanship: is an aspiration or ethos that a sport or activity will be enjoyed for its with proper consideration for fairness, ethics, respect, and a sense of fellowship with one's competitors. A sore loser refers to one who does not take defeat well, whereas a good sport means being a "good winner" as well as being a "good loser".
Sportsmanship can be conceptualized as an enduring and relatively stable characteristic or disposition such that individuals differ in the way they are generally expected to behave in sport situations. In general, sportsmanship refers to virtues such as fairness, self-control, courage, and persistence,[3] and has been associated with interpersonal concepts of treating others and being treated fairly, maintaining self-control if dealing with others, and respect for both authority and opponents.

The goals:
88th minute: Muka scores by stabbing a defender on a corner.
90th minute: Muka scores after threatening the goalkeeper on a one-on-one
90 + 2nd minute: Muka scores a free kick after the keeper let it go in, presumably because of Muka shouting "I'll kill you all if this doesn't end up as a goal!"
90th + 4th minute: Muka scores another goal from an inexistent penalty kick, after threatening the referee.

The Slembana Times: Through in the Friendly Cup

By Peter Whiteman, chief football reporter at the Bartonovia, Guardia, Old Guard (attendance 16,934)

We are through to the semi-finals of the second Friendly Cup, beating Texacano 2-0 in the tournament’s quarter-finals. We will face fellow Esportivans Northern Sunrise Islands in the semis.

Texacano were clearly trying to take this game to extra time and penalties, as they lined up with their usual, traditional, and defensive 3-5-2 formation, popular with many football clubs in the late 19th century. However, we went 1-0 up after three minutes, with Val Kylx slipping the ball under Texacanan goalie Ignacio Herrera.

Texacano then had a close chance themselves in the 11th minute, with our goalkeeper, Toby Gapman, saving a shot from Texacano’s star striker Donnie Velasquez. We were dominant though, and almost scored again in the 33rd minute, only for Dorrin Forrester’s shot to be gobbled up by Herrera. It was 1-0 at half time, with us having the better chances.

We went 2-0 up after 49 minutes, with Forrester chipping the ball over Velasquez to score. Kylx then saw a header palmed away by Herrera, before Gavin Stockwell, our captain, headed against the bar.

Texacano had a last-ditch attempt to score in the 86th minute, only for Velasquez’s angled shot to be flashed away by Gapman, as we progress into the semi-finals of the Friendly Cup.
