World Cuppet 3 RP, Scores & Squads

Postby Inis na Dun » Wed Jul 11, 2012 5:26 pm

Welcome to the third World Cuppet, and the first to be hosted outside of Polar Islandstates following sterling work by the tournament's founder for the first two edition. As in previous editions this thread will serve as the destination for all IC activity of the tournament. Rps and squads should be posted here. I will also be using this thread to post scores.

When posting a squad the following list of permissions can prove extremly helpful for fellow users. It would be greatly appreciated if you could include it, or something along the same lines.

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my goalscorers Y/N
Godmod scoring events Y/N
RP injuries to my players Y/N
Godmod injuries to my players Y/N
Hand out yellow cards to my players Y/N
Hand out red cards to my players Y/N
Godmod other events Y/N

Additionally, you may included as part of your squad post, a skill modifier. This informs the way your team will play, with -5 being the most defensive and +5 being the most attacking. Bit of a cock up on my part here, as style mods don't apply to the Footba11er formula being used.

The first round of matches will be scored on Sunday evening (west European local time). A fuller schedule can be found later in this post.

The format will be 8 groups of 6, single round robin, who plays who in the knockouts will be dictated by who finished where in what group. The draw was conducted by seeding teams into pots, both the draw and the constitution of the various pots can be found below.

Bridge Park – 30,000 (Tailteann)

Famed as the home of the Tailteann Games, an event featuring a number of local traditional sports, Bridge Park is famed for it's stunning location. Built as part of the development of the Tailteann Bridge, a megastructure built to link the Sorthern town of Durness and Inis na Dún. Though the bridge has been closed and fallen into disuse since the collapse of the Sorthern state an area of parkland around the Inis na Dún end of it has thrived with the Bridge Park stadium being at the heart of that.

Crean Park – 45,000 (Móinéar an Glas)

Set on the shore of the Vilitan Cove this ground stands as a national symbol of Inis na Dún and has been designed in a way to make visitors aware of that. With low roofs, cramped though not uncomfortable stands and a pitch not for the claustrophobic this is a place where the atmosphere is kept in and the opposition can be intimidated. Or indeed the home side if they're not up to scratch.

Bawncrusha Bay Stadium – 30,000 (Killfanna)

Taking it's inspiration from a former Cuppet stadium the Bawnbrusha Bay Stadium isn't merely located on the shores of it's namesake but actually in it in a manner similar to The Barge in Bjarnarey. It does differ slightly however as only the playing surface is in the bay on a large float. The single 30,000 seater stand lies on the shoreline looking over the bay.

Waterfront Ground – 25,000 (Ballytragorm)

Yet another waterside stadium, the Ballytragorm venue could well turn out to be one of the fan favourites at this tournament. The ground itself is nothing particularly special, many of accused it of being an identikit soulless ground, despite attempts by architects to make it blend in attractively with it's surrondings. Ballytragorm however should prove to be a hit with the local beach resorts being reckoned to be among the best in Atlantian Oceania.

The Faha – 20,000 (Bec Eriu)

One of the smallest grounds to be hosting matches in this competition The Faha has grown from being a mere recreation ground for local residents. It is in fact still a community owned asset and can often be found being used for events ranging from informal kickabouts to local school sports days. Such humble origins clearly show in the basic level of facilities at the ground compared to most international sports stadia.

Cedargroves Park – 26,000 (Downross)

Cedargroves Park sits in the former grounds of a large estate owned by the local nobility, who had a penchant for introducing foreign species of trees to the area, hence the name. Whilst a few of the trees remain, these days the name is one of the few remains of the ground's past. Whilst generally a comfortable venue the Downross area is prone to suffering from the harsh winds and rains coming in from the sea.

Donaghy Grounds – 23,000 (Trefarafordir)

This host town it's perhaps most notable for it's full name, Trefararfordirgogleddolgydathafarndaiunarbymthegsyddwedicynyddu'nsylweddoleienwfelrhanogastcyhoeddusrwyddondmaehefydynrhaiogofâuynharddiawngerllaw, the longest in the former Sorthern Northland. Whilst the meaning of the name has been lost to time posing for a picture in front of the town sign is a must do for visitors. Taking waterproof clothing meanwhile is a must for those visiting the Donaghy Grounds due to a famed aversion by the owners to maintaining the roofs of the stands.

Seangann Park – 26,000 (Ballyglen)

A new soulless ground for a new soulless town. Ballyglen, not far east of Tailteann, was initially a refugee camp set up by mainlanders fleeing the civil war in Sorthern Northland. Though now a fully fledged town it has struggled to shake off the feel of being a temporary settlement and Seangann Park similarly suffers. The ground has been built in an ad-hoc nature and is largely lacking in facilities.

St. Keiran's Park – 30,000 (Tranahoe)

Stunning architecturally, the building housing the grounds offices in the main stand is noteworthy for being one of the few listed buildings in Tranahoe. The imposing red brick structure is regularly regarded as the best work of the highly influential Inis na Dún architect Eamon O'Connell. Unfortunately the inside of the stadium doesn't match the outside, with the pitch in particular a regular attacher of criticism.

Labbymore Road – 21,000 (Lough Fasagh)

Situated on the banks of Lough Fasagh, in reality a relatively wide bulge in a river rather than an actual loch, Labbymore Road is situated on the site of an ancient mass burial ground. For this reason the more superstitious often attribute poor performances here to a longstanding curse common in local folklore.

Whiteslopes Park – 23,000 (Banmoym)

Banmoym is the highest town in Inis na Dún and as such often suffers from inclement weather. It is commonly voted as the most unappealing place to play or spectate among those in Inis na Dún football. Few Cuppet visitors are likely to leave with pleasant memories.

Shammagh's Haven – 26,000 (Ballypiast)

The Shammagh is a legendary beast which supposedly roams the woods around Ballypiast. Seemingly a cross between an ape and a bear sightings are alleged every few years though the existence of the creature remains unconfirmed and widely disputed. A running gag across Inis na Dún is that Shammagh's Haven is a hoax like it's namesake. This arises from the difficulty many have in finding the poorly sited and signed ground.

Duckota is a nation on the Unzucneru Association that is populated by several types of "speaking animals", such as the one on the Walt Disney cartoons, per example. Ruled originally as the Kingdom of the Duck Union and Opressed Lands by Cornellius McDuck, Duckota became a Republic after Cornellius was killed on a conflict against neighbors Kitsunia-Deesse. Even though the Ducks are the biggest part of the population (55%), Roosters, Mice, Mouses, Dogs and Cats are also part of the Duckota nation.
Duckota has a profesional soccer league named D-League, who qualifies two teams to the Unzucneru Cup, the sole international tournament that Duckota plays in club football. The best two teams are McDuck Football, owned by millionaire Scrooge McDuck, and Geesetown, their sole rivals. McDuck and Geeseetown do not allow their players to participate in international football, so Duckota Soccer had to build their roster from the other weaker teams of the D-League.

From the teams involved at the selection, the best team is Mousetown, who obtained third place, followed by Duckberg, Monotonopolis, Donald Athletic, Charmers Football and Daisy Sportive. The coach comes from University of Duckberg, who will field a team next season, though he is mainly a professor of Pyshics and a talented inventor.

World Cuppet 3
The Xurvah Mountain People- Full Roster

Bid Qupan Piped 3
Pobil Minid Xurvah- Rester Lawn

Introduction (Cifilwiniad):
Carmadin is a nation with a strong Aboriginal background. Before the Carmadins evolved/arrived (the correct answer is lost to history), the two main groups of natives, the Xurvah and Shihn'Dohm, roamed all over the nation. The Xurvah settled in the mountain range named for them, the Xurvah Range, in eastern Carmadin.
Now, thousands of years later, the group of natives with a great history of herding, hornblowing, cross-country skiing, and more, will try their hand at the world's sport: Football. The most athletic young men, between 17 and 20, were chosen to represent the people at the Cuppet. Along with them, chief Leu àn Haris will guide the team in their quest to achieve footballing glory. Due to the fact that the Xurvah are an isolated people, dwelling on the peaks it takes others months to climb, no Xurvah has ever played for the national team, nor do Xurvahs have remotely Carmadin-sounding names.

Ridim in i stiwardid i tir. (We are the stewards of this land)

Roster (Rester):

The Xurvah Pêl Drod Piwilgor Chefnu
Presents:

Xurvan people's team

Starters listed in bold.

Coach: Leu àn Haris

Goalkeeper: Ifan Ris, Dì Bletin
Right Defense: Bedwir Hiwel, Aled Tòmos
Center Defense: Emilin Èvans, Hiwel Powel, Getin Rikàrd, Emir Lwid
Left Defense: Murig Tudur, Geranit Pris
Right Midfield: Gwilim Cadwal, Owayn Adèr
Center Midfield: Emris Madox, Hiwel Grifit
Left Midfield: Morgàn Dàvis, Emri Own
Right Forward: Hù èf Terfel, Aled Edwad
Center Forward: Merided Kèndarik, Owan Alàs
Left Forward: Èfàn Gedrik, Ki Bletin

Tactics (Taktigo):

The team plays in a slightly unorthodox 4-3-3, with an attacking style of 1.3

Gedrik Kèndarik èf Terfel

Dàvis Madox Cadwal

Tudur Powel Èvans Hiwel

Ris

A ball in the Xurvah zone will be picked up by Èvans or Powel, and given to one of the midfielders, who will then send it to the side, either Gedrik or èf Terfel, for the infamous "Stiriecmelt", or "Lighting strike", in which the three forwards will charge in, either Gedrik or èf Terfel using their superb dribbling skill to get the ball to the corner, then, at the last second, pass it to Kèndarik, who will unleash the strike.

Part of the beauty of the Xurvah game is that they don't know football as we know it, and so are willing to take unnesescary, even foolhardy risks, to put the ball into the net. The alarming part is, more often than not, it works.

Customs (Tola):

Though they are here, on the world stage, one must not forget that the Xurvah are a native people, the ancestors of the first Carmadins, and as such, they have many native customs and beliefs you should respect, however strange you find them.
The first is Dekrau, or beginning. Dekrau, or the start of anything, is sacred to the Xurvah, as the start of something new means the birth of part of the world that has never happened before, and will never happen again, for something may only start once. Thus, at the beginning of each game, as the Xurvah do not have a national anthemn, they will perform a Tiriwimpedadiriwm, a chant (Tiriwimpedadiriwm translates to "horn and drum"). The Tiriwimpedadiriwm specially made for Cuppet 3 goes like this:

Leu àn Haris stand in a circle made up of all the team members except Gwilim Cadwal and Èfàn Gedrik. Gwilim and Èfàn stand on either side, at long alphorns. The team is kneeling, Leu àn Haris stands, clad in furs, with a traditional Xurvah club in his hands. Èfàn blows a long, low, soft note, and the team slowly rise. Suddenly, Gwilim blows a sharp, loud note on the alphorn, and the team leap up, breaking into a line. Leu àn Haris stand in from of them, and begins the chant. The alphorns blow after each response

L: Ridim ima ar girk! (We are here on a quest)
T: Imgais! (A quest!)
L: Ridim in gadel ein tir (We leave our land)
T: Imgais! (A quest!)
L: Er mwin dod ân pobil gogoniant! (To bring our people glory!)
T: Imgais, imkwil am ogoniant! (A quest, a quest for glory!)
L: Mae hin in ein gogoniant! (This is our glory!)
T: Ein gogoniant! (Our glory!)
L: Nid i ni, ak nid i rai sin dilin i ni, ak nid i rai sin eu dilin, ond i bobil cifan, ir hanes, i xurvah. Ar gifer ein pobil! (Not for us, nor they who follow us, nor they who follow them, but the whole people, the history, the Xurvah. For our people!)
T: Ogoniant ar gifer ein pobil! (Glory for our people!)
L: Benditihia tir hwin, gan ei bod in gisgredig. Ridim in i stiwardid i tir. (Bless this land, for it is sacred. We are its stewards)
All kneel, and touch their noses to the ground. The alphorns start quiet, and crescendo as the team recites:

Ar gifer i tir, ar gifer ein tadu, ar gifer u tadu, ar gifer ein plant, ac ar gifer u plant. Ar gifer ein pobil, ar gifer i Xurvah. I ogoniant. I anrided. I bawb.

The team rises, the alphorns reach their climax, and the entire team stands in a line, and touches their index finger to their brow, their lips, and then extends it. The opposing team is expected to mimic the action, and touch fingers with the Xurvans. This is the Xurvah sign of goodwill and peace.

Other things you should be aware of are:

Tir kisgredig: Do not deface the pitch or turf in any way. The Xurvah take their role as "stewards of the land" quite seriously
Do not raise your left hand with all fingers but the thumb outstrecthed. While this is commonly used to signal the number "four", the Xurvah will take it as an insulting invitation for agression.

Pob liwic ir hol gistadluwir
Good luck to all.

Bouncy Druids Football Team

About the Bouncy Druids
The Bouncy Druids were once a secret club of ten or so men and women who went into dark rooms and whispered strange things. They seperated from the rest of society and inflated permanent Bouncy Castles in some strange areas of the world. The original ten members multiplied and more people joined, curious of this strange society. They were rumoured to have 150 members at one point. If you went in, you never came out.

Nowadays, the members are more public about their organization, becoming more public friendly by encouraging viewing them as fun loving people. Them entering the Cuppet is just one of a long line of PR stunts to get attention. The membership, in turn, after quite a big crash that brought the organization down to three people, is now slowly creeping back up again. They have however kept the original motto, which reads:

"Have some Bouncy Pagan fun"

The Squad
Despite the membership creeping back up, the numbers are still very low, at five total members. Only two of them, the head and Druid #1104. As a result, the head Druid, #1093, called upon current and former members of actual football clubs to help their cause.

All of them are proud and loyal citizens, and have put aside the partizan differences of their club careers to work together for the common goal of supporting the nation in international competition for the first time! They will of course be guarded closely by members of the NIT at all times, and will carry with them their membership cards for the Socialist Workers' Party of Urszag-Csatoria

Workers across the nation are to be granted time allowances off from work in a bid to boost productivity when they return to work, hearts stirred and buoyed by the performances of our brave boys in white, green, and red.

The State of Külmsaar and Terra Scotia
Image
Image

The slightly controversial state of Külmsaar and Terra Scotia is the most distant and southerly of those in the Federation. Consisting of the small archipelago of Külmsaar, and the large island known as Terra Scotia, the presence of the islands is a constant 'little piece of grit hidden somewhere in between the duvet and the mattress and constant brushing and flicking won't get rid of it' in the bed of the relationship between the nations of Sargossa and Polar Islandstates. Sargossa believes the islands should belong to them, and Polar Islandstates maintains that the state government's choice to remain in the Federation is the most important part of this particular ménage à trois.

In recent years, the issue has died down slightly, and so the decision by the KaTS government to endorse entering a state team into the Cuppet - fully permitted to do so by the Polar Islandstates senate - has been criticised as an "unnecessary nose-thumbing in a westward direction" in many quarters.

Nonetheless, they're here now, and, well, we ought to just embrace that. I guess.

The two professional and successful clubs in the state, Islay Town Mechanical, and SK Sporting Juura - both on Terra Scotia - were unwilling to release any of their professional players for the tournament. However, along with a handful of players from the amateur sides on both Külmsaar and Terra Scotia, their youth teams have been made available for the tournament, featuring a couple of players from the championship winning Terns side of the latest Campeonato Rushmori Juvenil Sub-20.

Terrabis Religion Translated to English from the native Azerbaijani
Religion in Terrabis is simple. Believe in The One, The Leader, and do whatever he/she/it tells you to do. Follow as you are told, don't ask questions.

Children, from a young age, are told to do highly dangerous things in controlled situations in order to instill a mentality of doing whatever you are told without asking any questions. Accidents do happen about 1% of the time, but due to the perpetual war with the monsters of the abyss, the peoples of Terrabis are not at all unused to the pain of losing loved ones. It is believed that if your child is lost during one of the Trials, The Leader is giving him/her an honorable death compared to the death that the child would've received at the hands of the monsters of the abyss later in life. It is even almost considered blessed to have your life lost during the Trials.

By the time that a young Terrabi reaches the Age of Reckoning, he/she has the chance to become one of the Priesthood that follows The One's religious leadership. If he/she does not become one of the Priesthood, he/she will either join the Military, the Government, or Sports.

The ones that join the Priesthood attend to the needs of The One and also preach his/her/its Word to the citizens of Terrabis. It is their sacred job and honor to fulfill this, and this is what they do for the rest of their lives.

In order to honor The One, every Terrabi looks to the East three times a day (they are all given a watch with a compass) and bow three times.

There is a Book of The One, called The Book, that every Terrabi must read through at least once per year. It isn't uncommon of The Priesthood's members to read it through once a month.

Although the structure is rigid, it is a manageable one, because the Terrabi are a people that need a ruler and a firm hand.

The leaders of this group is none other than Sixteen Bits, which uses computer-programmed bodies to do its work. Such abominations will not be treated well by The Chosen, but The Chosen will follow the rules of football and try to beat them fair and square, a feat that might not be possible due to the computer-programmed bodies having had success in the past.

The Chosen will also have to face the Holy Forden Church, which is a nation that embraces a religion - it is actually a city-state. That game will be personal as The One tries to show that he/she/its religion is the better one by defeating them on the glorious field of battle.

The information gatherers couldn't obtain much on Everywhere, Hvammstang, and Rubrumistan.

The Chosen will try to obtain second place in this group and perhaps venture into the knockout rounds of the competition.

Everywhere

Everywhere is… well… everywhere. Its entry into this Cup is being managed (as was its entry into the previous ‘Cuppet’) by a cosmic entity whom you may call by the name of Infinity, and who will take the form of a humanoid being — although several times larger than any Human is — filled with a vista of stars, planets, other astronomical objects, and the depths of space. (You might, perhaps, remember him from his occasional appearances in Marvel Comics.) This whole business was HIS idea, and HE will be responsible for recruiting the players… although most of the actual coaching will again be delegated to the human(?) who is going by the name of ‘Fred’.

Roster
(usual Starters)

(# 2-of-3) Goalkeeper _ Jesus son of Joseph; Human; on loan from Nazareth Wanderers; some of his saves seem almost ‘miraculous’.

(# 2) Right Back _ Hector of Troy
(# 4) Centre Back _ Corineus the Giant-slayer
(# 3) Left Back _ Penthesilea, Queen of the Amazons
(As was explained during the precious Cuppet, football was indeed known back in their day and in fact it was a fleet of people descended mainly from Trojan refuges who actually brought the game to Britain.
The real origin of the Trojan War? All that business about Paris carrying off Helen was just an excuse, it was really because the Argive Greeks hadn't got over a disputed penalty in the Aegean Cup's final the year before...)

(# 5) Outer-Right Half _ George Edward Challenger; Human; recent graduate of Edinburgh University; ginger-red hair & bushy beard, physically powerful, maybe a bit short-tempered (Yes, it’s the famous Professor Challenger as a young man…); during the previous Cuppet he was this team’s substitute Goalie, but the coach has since decided that a more ‘offensive’ role would probably suit him better.)
(# 6&7) Right-Centre Half _ Tweedledee (or is that Tweedledum?); Wonderland Human; twin brother of the following…
(# 6&7) Left-Centre Half _ Tweedledum (or is that Tweedledee?); Wonderland Human… twin brother of the previous. (For much of the time they work together extremely well… however…)
(# 13) Outer-Left Half _ Ming the Merciless; Mongo’an Human; as in this team’s previous version, from while he was studying at Sandhurst (after Trinity College Cambridge, which in turn followed Eton) during his youth befoe he rose to become emperor of the planet Mongo; a skilled player and good tactician, but unfortunately rather likely to play ‘dirty’ if & when he thinks he could get away with doing so.

(# 88) Right Forward _ Goliath of Gath; Anakim (‘Giant’ human); borrowed from Philistines United; about 8’8” tall, and built to match (think 'Arnie', only even more so), but surprisingly quick on his feet as well.
(# 10) Centre Forward _ Wilfred of Ivanhoe; Human; skilled, brave, and noble… and maybe a bit of an ‘upper-class twit’, but it’s probably better not to talk about that detail.
(# √ -1) Left Forward _ Harry MacWabbit; from the Invisible Wabbits who, as their name suggests, appear to be [human-sized] invisible & anthropomorphic ‘cartoon’ rabbits; he’s a younger brother of that people’s apparent leader, Harvey, and has captained their own national team during a couple of unsuccessful attempts at qualifying for the World Cup. Don’t worry too much about the invisibility, because you can see his clothing [size=50(unless, as Wabbit players have allegedly done at times during past games, he discards it...)[/size]; can also play quite usefully in any other position, too, although he prefers the attack.

(usual Substitutes)
(# 0) Goalkeeper _ Te Appa Tu Arru; from Rapa Nui, which some people call Easter Island; looks like one of that island’s statutes, but can redirect the ball by sheer force of mind can even manifest ectoplasmic hands or feet if he needs them for goal-kicks or throwing the ball out; he was the previous squad’s usual starting goalie, but has agreed to drop down to substitute status without complaining.
(# 9) Back _ Pious Aeneas; Human (Another of the Trojans who favour a protective role, he is another player who has accepted a demotion from starter to substitute readily enough and won’t sulk because of that factor while waiting on the bench; Now, if this had been Achilles, instead… ^_^ )
(# 48) Back _ John ‘Little John’ Naylor; Human, on the tall side; borrowed from the Sherwood Merrymen.
(# 23) Midfielder _ Mr Tiggywinkle; human-sized anthropomorphic Hedgehog; be verry careful while trying to tackle him…
(# 50) Midfielder _ Robin ‘the Hood’ Locksley; Human; borrowed from the Sherwood Merrymen, whose captain he is; a very accurate shot.
(# 14) Forward _ Jock McGraw; Human, Glaswegian; a bit on the short side, but “He’s footba’ crazy, he’s footba’ mad!” (Check the song ‘Football Crazy’ for details of his career.)
(# 12) Forward _ Judge Samson the Nazirite; Human; won’t play while Goliath is on the field; long hair, otherwise looks surprisingly similar to Sylvester Stallone but a bit larger.

(Reserves)
(#1) Goalkeeper _ Gordon Banks; Human; fresh from RL’s 1966 World Cup final and England’s winning team.
(# 15) Back _ Sarpedon of Lydia; Human; ally of Troy.
(# 'e') Midfielder _ ‘The Veiled One; nature undisclosed, he/she/it is approximately ‘human-sized’ but so far has only appeared while cloaked in mists that obscure his/her/its actual form.
(# 20) Forward _ Berron o GoldWoods; Ursine, male, claims that he isn’t from any nation that you’d have heard of; He has the Ursines’ usual advantages & disadvantages relative to Humans.

Hailing from the non-pony-equine portion of Karditan, Ibex has been rebelling for years trying to fully separate themselves--though the situation has become more complicated recently with the founding of a rival government, Zebrabwe, a filthy everyone-is-equal democracy. Ibex is the remnants of the once-great nation of Alpacastan (which was devastated centuries past when the Humans of Karditan allied with the Southern Pony Tribes) and consists mostly of goats and various other types of hooved creatures.

Zebrabwe is a small rebellion-within-a-rebellion nation founded in the formally Ibex-controlled city of Hong Prong, steadily gaining support in the local area and fortifying the city against Ibex counterrevolutionary efforts. The beginnings of an everyone-is-equal-dammit democracy, they will be entering the Cuppet to see if they can peacefully overshadow their Ibex enemies.

Cuppet 3 Contextualisation

When Búa King of Uncertain Dimensions won a game of dice against Comrade-President Doctor James Sunshine, thereby inheriting the nation of Tamarindia and all assets therein, professors from the Tommy Flowers School of Computing in the Miskatonic University found themselves inheritors of various machines and calculators, among them the jerry-rigged computing entity nicknamed Sixteen Bits. This is how staff at the University of Anarquía described their work:
Tamarindia wrote:Programmers here at the Emigdio Venegas Centre, a research facility in the University of Anarquía, powered up a new hardware build which we have nicknamed Sixteen Bits. Splicing a flux capacitor to several HAL 9000 processors, putting it in an Enterprise warp-drive, using Culture mind interface technology for, um, interfacing and two Cyberdine T800s to drive it, we have unexpectedly created a 0.9333-level artificially intelligent sentient machine that demonstrates an Asperger Syndrome-type personality construct with an inexplicable love of football. It's immediate action was to calculate it's domestic leagues, and has been doing so ever since, now approaching 11.5 million recalculations, with OS Brigade Neurale seemingly a slight favourite with somewhere approaching 210,000 titles so far. Surprisingly it's second action was not to invent an implausible sport or create a sign-up thread destined to sink to page 77 with three signatures, as most of us humans have. Sixteen Bits second action was to post a single snapshot of the league calculation for UICA entry, and the third action: to sign up to Cuppet as a puppet of Tamarindia.

Perhaps a surprise to everyone, Sixteen Bits finished fourth in the competition, surprising the opposition with it's organisation and analysis of games. Recently, Sixteen Bits provided the Wight World Cup squad with Four Bit, a subroutine that powered the body of Al Sa'adi Gaddafi with some notable success.

Sixteen Bits returned a new batch of organic bodies powered by updated processors for it's second experiment in World Cuppet 2. This time around, the bodies were acquired from Vergenskian nationals who had come to Wight to support their team in the World Cup, and had failed to read the small print - that their souls would stay in Wight for no less than six eternities, while their bodies be donated to medical science. As it happens, an envoy from Bears Armed, the great spirit Raven, stole away the Vergenski spirits and gave them a new lease of life as bears. But the bodies stayed behind, and Sixteen Bits used them for the Cuppet. Once more the team reached the semi-finals, with the gradually decaying bodies falling into disrepair and not really lasting the full distance. They were dumped in the waters off Bjarnarey in the Polar Islandstates at the end of the tournament as a plant for a future story, while a peculiar moss which started growing on the bodies was taken home to Wight for study, where it quickly broke quarantine and is now out of control all over the Uncertain Dimensions.

In this, the third and final Sixteen Bits experiment, a new batch of bodies, cloned from the Vergenski originals and given updated 3rd-generation processors, will compete at Cuppet 3 with added personality. Was this the missing ingredient from the first two experiments? Will a bunch of individuals with 23.333r per cent autonomous free will fare better than fully networked slave processors? Are human frailties the difference between winning and finishing a pleasing but ultimately futile fourth?

We hereby declare we are not controlling Sixteen Bits 'calculation' of this tournament, as it calls what it is doing, but we have input some communication tips for SB so that it can make presentable posts, for example by suggesting it replace numbers with names for it's players. Seeing the value in this it has created a subroutine. Please bear in mind these players are calculations that ceased to exist approximately 0.21333r seconds after being recorded, and are therefore not available for transfer.

World Cuppet 3 Squad

Postby Zenega » Sun Jul 15, 2012 3:33 am

Zenega
Reigning World Cuppet Champions
World Cuppet 3 Tournament Squad

The Zenega National Team is a mix of players playing in the Zenegalese national league, of which Zaire-74 and Galoya-Galere are the traditionally dominant forces and well represented in this team, and those abroad. Most players who make it to international level are now plying their trade abroad or looking for moves in that direction. The squad is very much in transition with several of the World Cuppet winning squad retiring from international football or the game altogether, most notably keeper and captain Dámaso Abu who has taken up the manager's post at his old team Galyoa-Galere. Lamine Diouf steps up as number one, although he has no experience except as a bench-warmer at the last two World Cuppets, and a poor showing at the Warkus International Tournament, where he conceded six in the first game, was dropped, and watched from the bench as the Balafons made it to the semi-finals. Several young starlets are included for the valuable experience they will get of international football, including the strike pairing of Bonnaya and Onouha Zulu, now at Arçon in Saugeais where they are undoubtedly receiving a valuable education. Onyemere Chinwema has been awarded captaincy in Abu's stead, following his impressive showing at the second Cuppet.

Zenega, officially the Wightling Commonwealth of Zenega (République du Zénéga), is a country south of the Zénéga River in Gwaith. It owes its name to the river that borders it to the east and north. Zenega is externally bounded by the Wight Ocean to the west, Barbary Salé to the north, Kurufa to the east, and Gao to the south. It covers a land area of almost 197,000 square kilometres, and has an estimated population of about 14 million. The climate is tropical with two seasons: the dry season and the rainy season.

Ouakam, the capital city of Zenega, is located at the westernmost tip of the country on the Cap-Cayor peninsula. About 2500 kilometres to the west, on the far side of the Wight Ocean, lies long-time ally Tamarindia. During the 17th and 18th centuries, numerous trading posts, belonging to various colonial empires, were established along the coast. The town of St. Louis became the capital of French West Altafrique (Altafrique Occidentale Française, or AOF) before it was moved to Ouakam in 1902. Ouakam later became its capital in 1960 at the time of independence from France.

Today Zenega is part of the Wightling Commonwealth, after previously being a member of the internationalist syndicate alliance chaired by Doctor James Sunshine of Tamarindia. When Tamarindia fell under the dominion of Wight, Zenega by default became part of the new commonwealth. The Zenegalese dislike the use of the term 'puppet', since each nation in the Commonwealth is notionally autonomous. The incumbent head of state in Zenega is Prime Minister Nnamdi Oluchi, who succeeded Comrade-General Theroux Chukwumoge when Wight imposed the commonwealth on the nation.

Expect the Balafons to play an optimistic attacking formation, to exploit mercilessly the oft-held stereotype of naïve altafriquan enthusiasm – this will be most evident in giving away a large number of cynical fouls and hoping not to get booked, pleading naïve altafriquan enthusiastic innocence. Commentators will be guilty of exclaiming “they do love their football in Zenega, but,” - and there is always a 'but' after the patronising opening, and then a chuckle, and then - “they're not so keen on defending, are they Ron?” But the Balafons will defend quite happily, and kick teams all over the park when not in possession, with a smile on their face. Attacking when in possession, strong in the tackle, likely to accumulate yellows and reds, happy – they really do like their football, Ron – but no mugs. Also not very good, never likely to compete in a world cup.”

The squad
Starters in bold

Lamin Diouf, GK, age 26, plays for Kaba Garage. Graduate of the Tamarindia National Academy. In the World Cuppet 2 winning squad.
Gabriel Ackon, GK, 29, Galoya-Galere. A first call-up for the talented shot-stopper.
Oscar Igwebuike, GK, 20, Corona (in South Califas). Graduate of Langemark-Poelkapelle Academy, a rising star.

Awate Gabriel, DL, 25, Kino (in ABK). 9 caps and a World Cuppet 2 winner.
Julian Yahaya, DL, 31, Kurufana. A belated first call-up for the fullback.
Danys Tewani, DR, 24, Kaba Garage. 4 caps and a World Cuppet 2 winner. Graduate of the Tamarindia NA, previously played for Sparta Misión (TAM).
Víctor Ojeda, DR, 24, Sogobe Embankment. Another graduate of the Tamarindia NA, this is his first call-up to the national team.
Onyemere Chinwema, D RLC, 31, Dover City (in TBI). The defensive stalwart recently earned a transfer to the big time, as well as the captain's armband. 13 caps.
Mustapha Touré, DC, 26, Chase Citiz (in CvC). The future captain, and World Cuppet winner. 13 caps, 1 goal.
Osinachi, DC, 23, Skyanter Infantry (in CvC). Already has 2 caps and a World Cuppet winners medal. Considered Chinwema's natural successor.

Amadi Nwebube, ML, 31, UMFK (in TBI). Playing at the top level after winning World Cuppet. 13 caps, 1 goal.
Ojiofor Yobachi, M LC, 21, ZFF Yelumba. Has 2 caps from the World Cuppet and apprenticed to Nwebube as the next National team left winger.
Eric Mumuni AM RLC, 29, Galoya-Galere. Has broken into the first team with the retirement of Beltane Tougas, and expected to start on the right.
Felix Mohammed, AMR, 27, Ouakam Fortress. Another debutant for the right midfield, something of a surprise call up.
Jean Beauchemin, AMC, 28, Kino (in ABK). 9 caps and one goal, Beauchemin impressed in the World Cuppet and gets the vice-captaincy as reward.
Okeke Yobanna, AMC FC, 28, Athenian Towns (in CvC). 6 caps & 2 goals, missed the last Cuppet, has had his fair share of personal issues, now rebuilding his once-promising career.
Chieloka Chioke, MC, 25, La Pinatra Crusaders (in Falconfar). 4 caps. A player with a big future, surprised many by moving to Falconfar.
Mobi Chiabutu, AMC, 22, Galoya-Galere. Already a star, the naturalised Starblaydi came through the Tamarindian NA and Académie Altafrique.
Orpintón, AM RLC, 23, Kaba Garage. Yet another product of the Tamarindian NA, and well established in the Zénégalese league.

Babacar Sylla, ST, 26, Kaba Garage. 13 caps/9 goals - current top scorer for the fledgling national team. World Cuppet winner, LP graduate, played for Estudiantes (TAM).
Jesse Abosi, ST, 25, Sherwood Ports (in CvC). 9 caps/6 goals. Perfect partner to Sylla, graduated with him at LP, went on to Seleccione Orozco (TAM).
Bonnaya, ST, 22, Arçon (in Saugeais). A new call-up, the very highly rated Académie Altafrique graduate has a very good club partnership with Zulu.
Onuoha Zulu, ST, 22, Arçon (in Saugeais). Also new to the first team. With Bonnaya, a very promising forward for Zénégal's future.

Note that home-based players are always keen to move abroad where the income is greater, the money is better, and the salaries are higher. Offers via TG.

Hvammstang
World Cuppet 3 Tournament Squad

The far northern outpost of the Wightling Commonwealth, Hvammstang, qualified for their place in the World Cuppet by virtue of their surprise final appearance in the Commonwealth Cup of Nations, where they were beaten by Cuppet reigning champions Zenega. The small nation, with a popluation of just under six million, has a summer football league of two divisions each of fourteen clubs, with Vikinki Blönduós, Urheilu-Gram and NK Mannaeyjar the dominant trio. With the season a short three month affair all of the players are part-timers, most of them working in the fishing or agricultural industries during the hard winter months.

Aquillian's goalless draw with High Heels last night handed more power to the divisive figure of Alejandro Palacios, as it proved his importance to the team. His stand-in, Fidel Quiroz, toiled well but was simply unable to dictate the flow of the game in the same way as the Bahía Rojo maestro, leaving the Islanders without a goal after ninety minutes.

Palacios -- currently nursing a minor injury he sustained at the end of the domestic season -- is expected to be able to play part of Aquillian's next match, and spoke to journalists after the game, addressing the suggestion that he was likely to be integral to any success Aquillian may enjoy in the Cuppet.

"They can win without me, I think, but it is more likely with me." Palacios humbly agreed. "I think maybe some people don't like me because I am talented and good-looking, but... (cont'd on page 87)

'I remember that injury. I remember that interview too.' Alejandro Palacios thought to himself as he sat in his hotel room, trying to make sense of his surroundings. Something was vaguely familiar about it all, though he was certain he'd never been to the country before, let alone this particular hotel. 'But I don't remember it being here. Was that really yesterday?'

There was something odd about it all. Like an extended deja vu, sort of. He started for the door of his room -- he never shared, one of his quirks -- as he knew the next match for Aquillian wouldn't be until tomorrow, and it was important that he get to training, but something compelled him to sit back down. Within a minute of sitting back down on his bed, his phone rang.

'I know this call. It's the boss. I've had this call.' Alejandro paused before reaching for the phone. 'It's about the injury. He's going to tell me he doesn't want to risk me playing in the next game.' He thought to himself.

He picked up his phone and looked at the display: "Alfredo Herrera"

'It's the boss... Why do I know all this?' He thought to himself before answering the call.

"Boss?"

"Alejandro. How is your leg?"

"It's ... it's fine." He stammered, thinking about why he knew what was going to happen next. 'What the hell is going on?'

"Okay, well I want you in training later today. You won't be playing in the next match, but I want to start you for the one after so I need you to be at your best."

Alejandro tuned out at this point. Still trying desperately to comprehend why he knew what was going to happen. The only reasons he could think of were insane. Even by his standards.

"...Alejandro!" The boss had been calling his name down the phone for a while.

"Oh... Sorry boss."

"You'll be the death of me, boy. Just get to training at one."

"I'll be there."

He hung up the phone and sat stunned on the edge of the mattress. 'What the hell is going on?'

From an observatory window, presumably in another dimension, a small council of shadowy figures watched silently. Eventually one spoke.

"It appears he is now becoming fully aware of his gift."

"Quite. We must keep a close eye on him, lest he disturbs the fabric." Another replied.

"They always seem so confused at first, lost for a while. We normally have to send in The Vox around now. But this one seems to be understanding already." A third spoke up.

The first voice spoke again. "It remains to be seen whether he will be able to handle the shock of the reality. I hope he does. He has promise."

"You said that about Edaj Nostaw." A fourth voice spoke.

"And I was right. Albeit not in the way I had hoped." The first voice responded.

"Enough of the bickering!" A fifth voice spoke, presumably the senior figure on this council. "We must continue to observe and maintain the integrity of the fabric at all costs. What happens happens, and cannot happen any other way. Never forget that."

"Understood, Sir." The fourth voice spoke. Followed quickly by the first voice "Apologies, Sir."

"We will speak of this no more. Continue observation, and prepare The Vox, just in case."

((OOC: Since I'm doing that fluid time thing again, and the Cuppet is happening just before the Copa Rushmori, the squads are the same.))

La Selección Aquilliana :: World Cuppet 3

Manager: Alfredo Herrera (61 y/o)
Assistant Manager: Sergio Galindo (57 y/o)
Captain: Jose Sedillo
Vice-captain: Lemuel Tremblay
Style of play: Very attacking. High line of pressure, with regular overloads on the flanks (+3)

RP note
The style of play, selection process and manager are all based -- with varying degrees of "looseness" -- on those of Athletic Bilbao, if that helps at all. Also, the team's focal point -- for good or bad reasons, varyingly -- is mercurial genius Alejandro Palacios. For a real life example, think of him as a sort of cross between Juan Roman Riquelme (style of play) and Mario Balotelli (for off-field crazy), but less extreme on either part (i.e. he's neither that good nor that crazy).

RP notes
I have no specific permissions regarding the team beyond "no killing, please" ... and though I'd prefer if you cleared a major injury beforehand, I can roll with it. Do as you wish, otherwise. If it helps, Aquillian is a largely conservative, somewhat-religious nation with a lingering resentment for Osarius.
