The 4th Quidditch World Cup- Everything Thread !!

Postby Licentiapacisterra » Wed Jul 04, 2012 1:34 pm

Dear Quidditch Masters of the World,

I would like to invite the fellow wizarding nations, who have indicated their desires to compete in the great sport of warlocks, the 4th edition of the Quidditch World Cup, to send their magical masters to the community of Rivermouth, in the south of the Island Duchy. Attached, you will find lists of participants, venues, groups and schedules.

As soon as is possible, I kindly request that player names are sent by owl to me, so that I may make the information available to your fellow competitors.

I wish you the best of luck,

Percival Wulfric
Headmaster
Royal Academy of the Magical Arts (RAMA)

For those of you new to NS Sports, this is where you will post rosters and roleplays, and see results for each of the matchdays. For those of you experienced with this sub-forum, why the hell are you reading this ??

RAMA Stadium – Pine

The RAMA Stadium in the small hamlet of Pine is the largest Quidditch stadium in the Island Duchy, and the most well known amongst the wizarding community in Licentiapacisterra. As the name suggests, it is based at the RAMA, or Royal Academy of the Magical Arts, in Rivermouth, where most of the games will be played. Six of the seven Licentian players played most of their childhood Quidditch here, and it is famed amongst Licentian wizards for its beauty.

Games in Groups A & E will be held at the RAMA Stadium.

Milton Stadium – Milton

The Milton Stadium is a fairly large stadium, on the Rivermouth Plain, known for one of the most controversial incidents in Licentian Quidditch. During a casual game between two quickly thrown together teams, one of the players lost control of his passion and launched a Killing Curse towards the opposition’s beater, killing him. As a result of this incident, wands are no longer allowed to be carried when participating in games on Licentian soil, and all players are requested to wear black armbands when playing in Milton.

Games in Groups B & F will be held at the Milton Stadium.

The Pike – Houghton

The Pike is a large stadium, and the only one amongst QWC venues to be outside Rivermouth. The stadium is built into the hill known as the Pike, and visitors are stunned at the amazing sight that this stadium gives. Of course, as the stadium is underground, spectators are asked not to cast spells in the stadium, at risk of them bouncing around the walls, and causing an earthquake for the Muggle residents of Houghton.

Games in Group C will be held at The Pike.

Arcton Pier – Arcton

The stadium at Arcton Pier quite literally floats just off the pier, making for an amazing game of Quidditch. Fans will be transported to the stadium by boat, and when they arrive, they will be ushered in quietly, as not to alert various divers to the game. Players are advised to take caution, as bombing into the water on a broomstick, while amusing for the audience, will not end well for the warlock in question.

Games in Group D will be held at Arcton Pier.

Capacities are not released with the stadiums, as wizards are on hand with Extension Charms if necessary to allow more room for spectators.

Esteemed Colleagues,

I am pleased to inform you of the squad that the Centre is sending a team to the Quidditch World Cup for the fourth time. Our now world-famous team comes from the Starblaydi Quidditch Sunday League (known as the SQSL, or 'Squizzle') and, as such, are the finest exponents of the great 'sport of warlocks' known to us. Though we are, of course, hidden within Starblaydia we are, nonetheless, proud of the nation in which we live and the team will strive to match that pride with their performances. With a Championship win finish in the first tournament, a the Quarter-Finals appearance in the second edition and an unfortunate Group Stage elimination on home soild in the third competition, Starblaydia's Wizards and Witches are fully behind their team for the fourth edition!

Listed below are the players we are again sending forth to compete, as well as a brief description regarding each one, as well as the noble House they played for at the famous Percyvale Academy of Wizardry and Witchcraft. Starblaydia will play in the traditional predominantly-purple robes, also detailed below.

Keeper
• Wearing the Number One cloak and keeping goals for Starblaydia will be Enrique Esposito, who plays for the Fox's Irregulars Quidditch Club. A highly-capable Keeper who played for Montfort House, he is an excellent Quaffle-stopper. He is also Starblaydia's Captain.

Chasers
Harkon Vekkinen is the Chaser with the Number Two cloak, who plays for the ancient Jhani Cavalry side. A Montfort House Quidditch Captain in his time, he is an accomplished tackler.

• The only Witch on the team, Jennifer Havaland, wears the Number Three cloak. Formerly Head Girl of the Coraluna House, her passing is second to none in the entire land; a prized asset of the Neveheim Arsenal Witches side.

Rudyard Rumplebottom is oft-quoted as saying 'Rumplebottom's the name, goal-scoring's the game'. As such the bearer of our Number Four cloak is the Wizard most likely to be tallied on the scoring scroll. Formerly of Leoric House, he plays for Montepool County Quidditch Club.

Beaters
• Bearing the Number Five cloak is Alfred Grompton, once of Qucksilver House, who's shots with Bludgers are as complex as they are devastating. Currently plays for the Beverington Hawksworth School Old Boys side, where he teaches Arithmancy.

George Huxtable, descended from the great Leoric Huxtable, is another Leoric House member with a keen eye for an accurate swing at a Bludger. Plays for the Penningworth County Quidditch Club and wears the Number Six cloak.

Seeker
• Xantian The Eagle-Eyed, preferably known as Xantian will be the team's Seeker, wearing the Number Seven cloak. A Leoric House member if ever there was one, Xantian is eagle-eyed (figuratively rather than literally) and occasionally even reckless in his single-minded pursuit of the Golden Snitch. Caught every single snitch asked of him to take the World Championship in the first edition. Currently plays for Montepool County Quidditch Club.

Robes
A crude depiction (the most we could manage for this scroll, I'm afraid) of the former World Champion Starblaydi team follows:

Image

Should any replacements be required in between matches due to unfortunate 'incidents', they will be named and dispatched to Licentiapacisterra as and when appropriate.

Wishing every team in the competition 'good luck'!

Carmadin sport offices, Chahr

Kehlahdur Chahkohneht sat back in his chair. It had been a long days work, and he was tired. What with the olympics, and the upcoming World Cup, the offices had been working seemingly nonstop. Now, he had just some signups to verify, and he would be on his way home, back home to his wife, his dinner, and his bed.
He reluctantly pulled the bin full of to-be-verified signups towards him, and, without looking at the top, signed the line at the bottom of the first paper. He was pulling the second towards him when he got a look at the top of the paper he'd just signed.

What in the hell?! What was this Quidditch? Quidditch was a made-up sport, invented. He'd heard about it in a book he'd read as a kid, a book about a boy who became a wizard. Wizard Scmizard. Quidditch was played on flying broomsticks, with four enchanted balls. It was impossible to play real, true Quidditch. Whoever had sent the note was engaging in a complex, and very poor, joke. "Player names are sent by owl". Pshaw! Who'd ever heard of such ridiculousness? And to say it was held in Licentiasaperra? They, from what he'd heard of them, hated all sports, much prefering theater. Quidditch surely wouldn't fit with that guy who he'd read during the World Cup. It was nonsense.

He threw the paper into the fire, and returned to the bin to sign a Beach Cup verification.
Had he turned, he would have seen the paper spinning rapidly, in green flames.

***

Two wizards watched the fire, in the Carmadin Ministry of Magic, department of Magical Games and Sports, underneath the streets of Chahr, and magically concealed, as everything magical in Carmadin was. Now, as the fire glowed green, one arose to pluck the paper from the flames.

"There. We've got it. Signiature and all"

"It's unnescesary. The Licentiasaperran Ministry will understand why we couldn't get his verification"

"Just a precaution, you never know when we'll need to prove the muggles gave us permission to be there. And supposing a muggle causes an issue at the World Cup? It won't be one of ours. The mere fact that he signed it proves he thought it was a joke"

"Perhaps, but, it dosen't matter now. Let's get the player list attached"

"Yes, let's"

"Alvin! We got in!"

"You're kidding." It had been a long shot from the beginning. Alvin Serniman had signed them up, as a joke. Seven young men and women studying at Southcliff College, Featbridge, the only seven members of the Aerial Sports Club. Each of them, aside from their Journeyman studies, were some of the foremost athletes in the college, but aerial sports had yet to break the feeble stranglehold that football held on Falcania's tiny athletics community.

They were certainly all strong of wing.

"The Quidditch thing?" Horus asked.

"Yes!" Staevi replied. "We should probably have a practice match."

"It says here to reply by owl." Sheridan noticed.

"My sister has one," Amanta pointed out. "I guess we can send it." She pulled out a piece of paper and began to write.

Code: Select all
Dr Wulfric,

It is with great joy I receive your letter. I admire the training that must have gone into making your owl deliver this message, I hope the owl we send does as well as yours.

It is with some confusion that we wonder how it is that your teams plan to achieve the gift of flight - we will be travelling far from our native nests in the mountains to reach you, and know that the world is a strange place. It will be of great interest to us to see how other nations in this grand world have achieved the gift that we have been blessed with.

Our team roster is as follows:

Keeper:   Alvin Serniman
Chaser:   Sheriden Holumist
Chaser:   Tormas Mairkl
Chaser:   Staevi Palarp
Beater:   Horus Telb
Beater:   Jessic Brimman
Seeker:   Amanta Rish

We look forward to playing "the great sport of warlocks" as you call it. May the best team win!

Sincerely,

Amanta Rish,
Treasurer, Southcliff College Aerial Sports Society

"Here... what's this about magic?" Jessic asked.

"Must be some foreign thing," Alvin opined, spreading his fifteen-foot wingspan. "I don't think we should need to worry."

As Yorobia's population is taken up mostly by ponies, I find it most appropriate for ponies to be playing. Of course, my team will only be made up of unicorns because they are the only type of magic pony, excluding alicorns.

Voilà, I present the Yorobian National Quidditch Team!

RP PERMISSIONS: everything short of killing players.

Dainer doesn't have a wizarding community, as conceived in the usual sense. It does, however, have its own magical traditions, some of which go so far back as to be lost in time. Quidditch is an imported practice, which enjoys limited popularity mostly thanks to the Daineri obsession with sports.

Image
Chasers
Ligia Fortuna - True to her name, she seems to be followed by a luck spell, making dangerous shots from impossible angles. Outside of Quidditch, her speciality is plants - she's always with a flower on her hair, from one of the types she invented herself.
Quyti Silead - An accomplished witch in her own right, she has by far the most Quidditch experience of the team. Her play is as shrewd as her personality.
Atay Aksu - Recklessly and mindlessly aggressive, she stops at nothing in her pursuit of points.
Beaters
Vlitra Drakan - The only draco-human in the team. As such, a practicioner of powerful magic. She's called "the Amazonian goddess of Daineri quidditch", for her beauty and height (she's seven feet tall).
Breno Croçiu - The heir of a respected clan of shamans, his style is however anything but refined. This towering mass of muscle likes to send Bludgers towards the other team's beaters to distract them - often knocking them down in the process.
Seeker
Rokudan Canabrava - A half-Sanjiyan, which explains the third eye on his forehead. He keeps it shut with a special headband, in order to "make the game fair". Even without it, though, he possesses inhuman reflexes and keen awareness of the game.
Keeper
Erastothenes Mu - A mysterious magical scholar who lives isolated at Skull Mountain. It's a mystery why he decided to take on Quidditch, and even MORE of a mystery how he got in the national team. He's a reliable keeper to say the least, if somewhat paranoid about the other teams cheating, people plotting against him, and pumpkin pies.

Strength: Speedy attack and two fearsome beaters.
Weakness: Unexperienced, more about energy than technique.

==========
opening RP

"There is a curse over this country.", said the shaggy-bearded man.

"I know. I can see the sign of evil in the sky, clear as day." The young man's third eye was looking up. It didn't "see" visible light like normal eyes, it was only attuned to magical patterns. With an eye such as this, finding a Golden Snitch in a sky-high pile of haystacks would be easy, but he considered it cheating.

"There's a lot of questions to be asked, Rokudan. Who's responsible? Someone must be trying to get me when I'm playing Quidditch. They knew I would be vulnerable..."

"This is not an human curse", said Rokudan. "Something far more sinister is in play. I fear we may not be equipped to handle this."

"Hello? We're surrounded by wizards! We could look out for help among the other teams", said another voice. A gray-haired woman approached the pair. Some unusually youthful features contrasted with some marks of maturity, making for a strangely timeless visage. Under the dim light of the cloudy day, she looked like one of the fabled hags of old.

"Whatever you do, keep it down. We don't want Vlitra to intervene too early." The draco-human's power was unquestionable, but her methods were... definitely not subtle. In a place where magic-users were interested in keeping a low profile near the so-called "muggles", that would be a problem.

"I'll ask in written form, then", she said, producing a scroll which was then grabbed by her pet, a dwarf lightning dragon. The scroll was enchanted to copy itself when unfurled, so the extra copy could be taken to the next destination. The little creature hurtled through the air.

Postby Bleak Rock » Wed Jul 04, 2012 6:28 pm

Of Bleak Rock's population of around 170,000, it is estimated that roughly 10,000 are magical. These power are concealed from the rest of the Blockheads, but it will come as no surprise to anybody that there is strong correlation between the magical families in Bleak Rock and the families with the most financial power, or that were most influential in securing the island's independence from Polar Islandstates.

The community prides itself on their sense of honour, and they pride themselves in their restraint when it comes to manipulating magic to give them an advantage over non-magical citizens of other nations. Anything that happens on the island is fair game however, and, well, if plenty of people want to do business with companies on the island then, well, that can't be helped, can it?

(Background info: In the non-magical world Bleak Rock is notorious as a tax-haven, and many of the larger international companies have offices registered there, a great many financial powerhouses operate out of the island as well, included six of the top ten insurers working in Polar Islandstates today, and eight of the top ten banks and building societies. The insinuation here is that the magical families are responsible for a lot of the behind the scenes string pulling that goes on here, and the largest gold deposit in the island chain being situated under Bleak Rock can't have hurt, either)

Bleak Rock has a history of four competing magical dynasties, masquerading to the non-magical community as simply the four oldest noble families - Hús Hreindýr of the Caribou, Hús Hrafninn of the Raven (traditionally the strongest on broomsticks), Hvítabjörninn Hús, of the Bear, and Hús Náhvalur of the Narwhal. With heraldry and rivalries amongst them, and a complicated history of alliances, pacts, and plots that reaches back hundreds of years, these four Hús used to despise each other, and fought for supremacy on the island. Those days are gone now, but the island is still roughly divided into four quarters, and families very definitely fly the flag for a particular Hús.

This is reflected in the four hús of the magical academy, the Töfrandi Stofnunin, where students are accepted into their respective hús based on their familial heritage. Quidditch is played enthusiastically in the academy, as well as outside of it in later life, though there is not a professional league. Matches are bruising encounters however, with a strong emphasis on beating, physical chaser play, and goalkeeping. Blockhead seekers tend not to be of a particularly high standard, so if you lose to Bleak Rock, chances are that the snitch has basically trolled you by flying straight into the Blockhead seeker. Speaking of which...

KEEPER - M - 36 - Sæmundur Skarphéðinnsson - Hús Hreindýr - CAPTAIN
BEATER - F - 24 - Frída Ragnarsdóttir - Hús Hrafninn
BEATER - M - 29 - Eyjólfur Danjalsson - Hús Hrafninn
CHASER - M - 32 - Njörður Skarphéðinnsson - Hús Hreindýr
CHASER - M - 30 - Eyvindur Rosenmeyersson - Hvítabjörninn Hús
CHASER - F - 33 - Ingrid Mínervudóttir - Hús Náhvalur
SEEKER - F - 24 - Sigríður Valdimarsdóttir - Hús Hrafninn

The Blockhead side will be playing in black under-robes and white outer-robes, the latter of which will feature trimming in the colour of that particular player's Hús.

Keeper: Song Hyeon Deok (Male pony)
Beater: Chris Loranger (Male tiger)
Beater: Choi Jung Min (Male wolf)
Chaser: Dario Wünsch (Male pony)
Chaser: Yoon Young Seo (Male pony)
Chaser: Tyler Wasieleski (Male lion)
Seeker and Captain: Jonathan Walsh (Male Pony)

Strength of Team: Amazing Defense and a champion level seeker. The overall game plan is to catch the golden snitch while keeping the score as low as possible.

Weakness of Team: If either the seeker or the keeper isn’t playing at their best, the game can be out of reach very quickly.

The National Quidditch Team of Darmen, Sponsored by the Darmeni Ministry of Magic
History of Magic in Darmen: Wizards and Witches have lived openly in Darmen since it's founding in 1120. While they are usually not allowed to use magic in Public, there are several exceptions, usually involving self-defence or defence of others. Several schools exist for the magically gifted around Darmen, with the University of Legonian Magic being the highest level of learning. OOC: Magic in Darmen is a mixture of that described in Harry Potter and the type depicted in the TV Series, Charmed.

History of Quidditch in Darmen: Quidditch is usually played as an amateur or recreational sport, although several professional teams do exist in the form of corporate teams made up of workers at certain companies. While no official league exists, local tournaments take place almost every week during the summer and fall, while the National Championship, if it can be called that, is competed in the Spring.

Warku-tiroedd hud Quidditch Team

Keeper
Zekraw Fumbles will be wearing the number 1 and keeping in the Quidditch World Cup. A former keeper for the Fowl House at the Menter Institute, Zekraw is one of our younger, but very talented players.

Chasers
Marxwells Fumbles is our number 2 player, who formerly played for the Transla House at the Menter Institute. A quidditch player even in his younger years, Marxwell adds a well-needed bit of experience to our team.
• The first out of two witches on our team, Verity Wellington, is a very powerful youth player, wearing the number 3 cloak. She has been considered by many as the fastest and most powerful player in her age group. Verity is a former player for the Ynnis House.
• The captain for our team will be Daraaka Williams, a former captain for the Fowl House and a player at his peak. Wearing the number 4 cloak, Daraaka is expected to pack some punch in the World Cup this time around.

Beaters
• Wearing the number 5 cloak will be the second and final witch on our team, Anastasia Pzeltski, is a sweet girl but an utterly brutal one when it comes to hitting a bludger at the opposition. Anastasia was the former head girl for the Ynnis House.
• A test robotic player for the team, Infinite, is an utterly accurate & precise swinger. Made by the finest witches & wizards in Warkus over the period of 4 years, we believe Infinite will be worth the effort. Infinite will be wearing the number 6 while participating.

Seeker
Felten Wellington, better known by the name 'Ghost', for his incredible speed and his ghost-like mask. Felten is a very fast and powerful player. Felten was the former head boy for Ynnis and will be wearing the number 0.

I should check at this stage - it doesn't break anything if my team aren't magic, just bird-people, right?

The newly founded Sylvanae Academy of Learning for Sorcery and Alchemy (SALSA) has been working hard to make sure their students and staff can be quickly on par with all but the most revered Academies in the world. Luckily the Elven peoples of the Sylvanaes Queendom are inherently adept in the Mystical Sciences and “catching up” seems to be little more than a play on words.

With the creation of the 4 new Royal Houses of the Academy, SALSA has made the final domestic step in becoming equals on an international stage. Here is the unveiling of the houses…

Royal Houses Image

Falasumé - The House of Light. Named after the famed Sorcerer Hérion Falasumé.

Kevayamyr - The House of the Woodlands. Named for Náressa Kevayamyr, The Isle Witch.

Elersumé - The House of Wind and Water. Named for Aramethiel Elersumé, famed elemental Sorceress.

Maldragian - The House of Darkness. Named for Aglotna Maldragian, the Shadow Witch.

The Squad - In true Sylvanae Fashion all players are female - all but 1 are Elves

Robes will be Hot pink with lilac and lime trim

Coach: Belistwen Malnardal of House Elersumé

Albert of the Duchy of Runeroth reclined in the drawing-room of his mountain-side home and studied the golden medal inscribed with his name and the words, "Urumgard, 3rd Quidditch World Cup Champions" arranged in a circle around an image of a quidditch game in progress, resting on a modest stand above the warmth of the hearth. Outside his window, the snows of the Urum Mountains could be seen.
Runeroth's magical community, as with all those of Urumgard, lay within plain site, yet hidden from those with non-magical eyes. Few "muggles", as they were often disparagingly known to the magical populace, except for the king and government officials knew of their existence. But if they did, they would surely have a source of sporting pride, for the small island nation of Urumgard was reigning Quidditch World Cup champions!
While outside, the wind howled and the snow flowed ever-downwards to the earth, a large white owl, almost invisible against the white backdrop of the mountain-sides tapped at the windowpane impatiently, carrying in its curved yellow bill an envelope of fine velvety paper sealed with a wax seal. Taking the letter from the owl and allowing it to perch above the fire, he prised the envelope open and perused the letter he had received, sent from the nation that had brought quidditch to the international stage, Starblaydia, as well as another nation who had been chosen to be hosts; Licentiapacisterra.
Albert read that last name several times, blinked, made sure that it was not a mistake of the quill, and continued. It was an acknowledgement that Urumgard had been accepted to the 4th Quidditch World Cup to defend their title. Albert smiled to himself, in the knowledge that at that very moment his team-mates were thinking the exact same thing as him... "How on Earth do you spell Licentiapacisterra?

Only two changes here from the team which won the Quidditch World Cup in their inaugural appearance at the tournament. Ulrich, who previously played as seeker mysteriously vanishes from Urumgardi Quidditch (and public life in general) after the scandal involving allegations of him assaulting captain Albert of the Duchy of Runeroth. With Edmund moving from the reserve seven to fill his place, Alfred of the Duchy of Varrlbury takes his place as second-choice seeker. On the defensive front, Egbert, previously a first-choice beater, had to retire from quidditch after breaking his arm in the group stages. With Ludvig of the Duchy of Saalheim replacing him, a new reserve beater was needed. Eric of the Duchy of Aranholm was drafted in as his replacement.

Starting VII:
Keeper: Sven (Urumberg)
Beater: Aergad (Surburgh)
Beater: Ludvig (Saalheim)
Chaser: Siegfred (Faerwijk)
Chaser: Albert (Runeroth) [c]
Chaser: Hans (Dralfjord)
Seeker: Edmund(Konswerth)

Reserve VII:
Keeper: Larson (Eranhamn)
Beater: Eric (Aranholm)
Beater: Berthold (Thornleigh)
Chaser: Ingmar (Yijncott)
Chaser: Caedmon (Mornfelde)
Chaser: Camlin (Orrenach)
Seeker: Alfred (Varrlbury)

NOTE: The second part of a player's name is the city/duchy they come from and is written as [name (duchy)] or as (name of the duchy of duchy-name). For example, first choice keeper Edmund's name is written as Edmund (Konswerth) or as Edmund of the Duchy of Konswerth...

Robes: White robes with gold trimming at the collar and cuffs, blue cloaks with gold lettering.

If my opponent RP's first she/he may:
Choose my goalscorers? Yes
Godmod scoring events? Yes
RP injuries to my players? Yes (don't kill them though!)
Godmod injuries to my players? Yes (see above ^)
Godmod other events? Yes
