I remember exactly the same thing happening to Apox in WC65, lost to Boring Paradise and NMS, was already out of the WC, and then beat The Holy Empire 2-0. Was lolz.

To anyone interested in co-hosting the next Baptism of Fire with me, please feel free to shoot me a TG or get in touch with me on the IRC (I'm active on #nssport most evenings between 6PM-Midnight EDT).

And now for something totally different...

Damnit! The Equestrian States still hasn't advanced beyond the Round of 16 of any WCC event. That's kinda annoying when you go into the Cup of Harmony as the fourth-highest ranked team in the competition (16th overall) after not reaching the finals for the first time since WC63. Y'know what, I'm gonna make a list.

Da Rules
1) If in the knockout stage of a tournament, do not reach the quarterfinals. (CoH 51, CoH 53, WC67, CoH 60)
2) Do not win a match on penalties, especially when facing one of the host nations. (CoH 53, CoH 60)
3) Do not qualify for the World Cup via the playoffs. Also, try to make the elimination as painful as possible by either losing by an incredibly slim margin or by a team that's well below you in the rankings; bonus points if you can manage both. (WCQ60, WCQ62, WCQ63, WCQ67)
4) Finish third place in the group stage, unless a third place finish is good enough to allow advancement to the next stage of the competition. This rule especially applies to the World Cup finals, where you should remain in contention to advance to the second round on MD3. The sole exception to this rule is when serving as hosts, in which elimination in the second round is permissible. (BoF 45, CoH 52, WCQ61, CoH 54, CoH 55, WC64, WC65, WC66)

Same happened to Audioslavia for our first eight cups after qualifying. Round of sixteen was the proverbial glass ceiling against which are young claret heads bumped against regardless of ranking. All four points could have applied to the Bulls.

Make a big deal about it in RPs. Make it part of the narrative. That way, your relief/joy can come through in your writing when you finally do make it to the quarters. Even if, knowing you, that particular RP is posted ten seconds after cut-off.
