FEDERATION OF POLAR ISLANDSTATES ROSTER
"THE FIRS"

Ice Hockey in the Federation, for all its climate may hint at a national obsession, still sits below football and vying with rugby in terms of popularity. However, thanks to performances that continue to surpass expectations at previous world cups as well as a hard fought victory for Hounds of Juura in one of the last Champions Leagues of Hockey, it's appeal is growing faster than any other sport at the moment. The NPHL has proved a success so far since its foundation, and the traditional heartlands of the sport in the east and south are starting to spread towards its other hotbed in Kuril Arkhipelago.

Polarians are a warm bunch, every as warm as the land they habit is cold, and are ruthlessly efficient and athletic almost naturally. They are pacifists by nature, and will rarely start fights. This doesn't mean they won't fight back, of course... Fierce rivalries between the more hot-headed members of the squad from the bigger domestic teams, such as Invermuir Eagles and Hounds of Juura, or Matua Ice Wolves and Fjorhorgen Generals, can sometimes spill out onto the ice, and inter-squad arguments are something that coaches Idris Heliokomman and Nils Freidrichson are having to deal with on a more frequent basis. Inspirational leader Radoslav Invermuir could be one of the best Polarians to have ever graced the ice however, and his presence often quells any disputes.

Tommy's Blog

Torisakia kicks of the World Cup of Hockey 18 tonight with a pre-qual friendly against Allamunnic States. This is the first ever meeting between the two, even when Torisakia was known as Teinohikira. Torisakia's schedule doesn't look tough. Only 2 of their opponents are actually ranked. Torisakia's hardest game will more than likely be against Qazox, who is ranked #4. Other than that, Torisakia shouldn't have a problem. Torisakia also has a mid-qual friendly against #14 Darmen, however the friendlies don't necessarily count towards the tournament as much as they are just sparring games with fellow competing nations. However, every game counts in the hearts of everyone. I wish the best of luck for every nation in this tournament, and may the best man win. The game is tonight at 8:30 TST on TSPN.

In a nation known for warm weather, an attempt at hockey seemed outlandish a month ago. But now, the Piipuu's are ready to take on the world!

Image

After winning the BGxHOCKEY Championships, the Piipuus are finally getting used to ice. As hockey is a popular sport here in Bloodbath Generation, the only thing was it's field hockey that is popular. Ice is only used for drinks here, not for playing. But with the recent construction of the SLAPSHOTxTTSO, the new national home for hockey in the capital city, ice hockey is on the rise, as news of the teams existence and tournament hopes lit the Fire of Hope in Songdo Plaza, a torch lit whenever Bloodbath Generation competes in an international competition.

Image

As the first sports team made up entirely of Fluffcorns, a reigon that split from Bloodbath Generation but has a massive glacier and winter climate, controversy arose as people rallied to have the #1 major leauge team, Ube Fighting HC, come instead. But after a week of riots, the government stepped in and let the Piipuus represent us.

John Moncrief and the Camians are near to the end of a dynasty. Two CHL Finals appearances for John Moncrief, one of those being a win. New Athens itself has won three BarFin Premier Championships, and have appeared in the CHL finals for three strait seasons. However, age is getting to the Camians, and a new generation of stars is needed.

Richard Kellam, Mark Portillo, Johnny Lefevre, Bobby Jesse, and more have retired, a young players have filled their spaces. Center for the Montreek Camians, Ryan Wesbrooks, is 23 and an outstanding left wing on the Camian first line. Nick Collens, Right Wing for the PK Mates, also has a starting gig on the national team. Goalies Colin Chapman and Donald Hatfield playing for Petmonton and Compolis, also have major roles on the national team.

Camwood has the talent to go a long way this World Cup. John Moncrief is facing the inevitable end of a great career. It's basically now-or-never for Moncrief and His Blue Soldiers.

On the CIVILINE HOCKEY LEAGUE

Today: TOPHER SLAPSHOTS

Attention has never been Scott Fuller's thing. He likes to walk down the streets of Topher with a Violinists baseball cap atop his matted-down hair, the brim shadowing the top half of his face, his hands crammed into the pockets of a Wells & Halifax sweatshirt. If he's on the way to work - as he normally is - he ducks through a dirty "maintenance only" door along the Winfield Street side of Slapshot Garden. Passing through a couple hallways, he finds the stairs, which has the team name plastered along the walls above landings. Two floors up, a left turn, a right turn, and finally Fuller can settle into his famous purple chair and get down to business.

This is the humble life that Slapshots head coach Scott Fuller lives. The most famous coach in Citiz hockey earns just over a million dollars a year, yet voluntarily goes to work via the Topher subway system and a janitor's closet. His office on the third floor of the Garden - routinely sold out these days - is not lined with pictures of the occupant and his famous hockey-star employees, as is common in coaching offices. He brews a lot of coffee - not just because he needs the energy, but to wipe out the smell of chemicals and sewage from the nearby janitor's office.

It is the antithesis to the life of luxury you might expect for someone as successful as Fuller. He made a name for himself (maybe enough for several names, actually) when the Slapshots won the first two Ice Cups Royale. In his second championship season, the Slapshots won an incredible 52 regular season games, still a record to this day; and manhandled the Bartewick Lasers in five games to win another title. "I can tell these boys what to do off the ice, but I can't control how they handle themselves on it," Fuller said post-Game Five. "And these guys handle themselves like champions. If one or two guys exude confidence, well, that helps, but everyone's confident and excited, and that's how it's been all year. We're firing on all cylinders right now."

Another fifty wins in Season 3, coupled with a mere nine losses, and Topher entered the postseason competition the heavy favorite. The team swept overmatched Vendrall in their first series, earning a berth with the pesky Skyanter Fire. The boys from the far-north town weren't expected to provide much competition, but the underdogs managed to come away with the victory in seven games. The Slapshots' sticks went stone-cold during the series, scoring one goal each in the final two games, and even missing every shootout shot in a Game 2 defeat. Team star Bradleigh Paris had injured his right index finger and was limited throughout the playoffs, but no one thought mighty Goliath would fall so early.

Goliath underwent surgery in the offseason, signing top draft pick Lester Colbert out of Regal Heart University to replace ineffective center Inar Osgood. For yet another season, the Slapshots' offense was the best in the league, with no small thanks to Paris (26 goals) and new addition Colbert (21 goals). But once the postseason got under way, things weren't looking so dandy. It wasn't until Game Six with the Sparrey Indys that the offense started to heat up; three goals were coupled with a poor game by goalie Rutherford Bert, whose misgivings sent the game to overtime. One of the best games of the postseason ended with a Holt Wharton overtime goal.

Even though the semifinal series with the Kentmen took six games, it wasn't much of a contest. The final game was a 4-0 thrashing in favor of the Slapshots. Critics were willing to overlook the team's struggles with the Indys because of their top-notch performance in the semifinals, and they were slightly favored over the Eastern Chase Innovation, whom Topher had defeated in the first Ice Cup Royale final. But the Innovation won the first two games at Slapshot Garden. The Slapshots managed to even things up at the Ice Bowl; however, the momentum quickly reversed back to Eastern Chase when they won a Game 5 shootout. "Shootouts have long been our kryptonite," Fuller said after the game. "Without your teammates beside you, you know, it can be a little hard to focus. The teamwork-based philosophy we pride ourselves on doesn't apply in shootouts." Returning home, Topher laid down at the feet of the Innovation in a 3-0 whipping.

Though it's been two years since the Cup Royale has found a home in Topher, Fuller is optimistic. Colbert is only 22 and is already one of the league's best goalscorers. Paris is a megastar, having received a lot of publicity during the Winter Olympics, and at 26 is in the prime of his career. Cotdelapomais winger Florent Robichaud was signed during the offseason to further boost hockey's best offense. Rutherford Bert is looking a little worse for wear at the ripe age of 32, and may start platooning with Edmund Stockwell or young prospect Walton Weldon. The Slapshots have a lot of defensive depth, and a lot of youth - both of which make them ready for another run at a championship.

Best of all, they have a championship-winning manager at the helm. You wouldn't know it, though, if you saw Scott Fuller. Or smelled him.

Falconwhereveryouare shall be taking its first foray into international sports by entering the following team into the eighteenth World Cup of Hockey:

(# - Pos- Name - Age)
Forward Line 1

#11 LW Kyle Bosche (33)
#1 C Aaran Ashby (27)
#34 RW Wilhelm von Üshter (30)

A little unusual for the primary line, these three specialize in pesterance and convoluted strategies. They run a quick, high-passing game meant to confuse and confound their foes and slip the puck by the goalie rather than power it through.

Forward Line 2

#25 LW Karl Woflshtag (26)
#5 C Gunter Ingelhommen (32)
#76 RW Hank Boone (35)

The complete opposite of the first line, Karl, Gunter and Hank run a slow and deliberate pressure game. Keep the puck on their side of the court and kill time with passive possession until a gap arises, then bash through said gap and slam the puck at the goal with all possible force.

Forward Line 3

#15 LW Jeremiah Kucinich (37)
#00 C Constantine Volproppos (36)
#33 RW Orlick Braun (42)

What some may call a line of fossils, we call a line of experience. Though none of the players are as sprite and lithe as they were in their youth, they know hockey inside and out. The name of the game here is exploiting younger, inexperienced opponents, leading them into traps and forcing them into gambits any seasoned player would avoid in an instant.

Forward Line 4

#57 LW Rudrick Hoer (18)
#7 C Heinrick Klein (16)
#93 RW Albert Jair (17)

A strictly backup line drawn from Falconwhereveryouare's youth hockey leagues. Defensively-minded, as they mostly just eat minutes to give the other lines a breather.

Defensive Pair 1

#65 LD Franz McClain (29)
#56 RD Joseph Üntermensch (32)

Solid defenders who rarely cross to the other half of the ice; their job is to get the puck to the forward line as quick as possible then set up for possible enemy counters.

Defensive Pair 2

#45 LD Drew Schott (34)
#54 RD Damian Jones (27)

Strong, burly guys who can really intimidate others. Work in tandem with FL2 to pressure opponents and with FL3 to set up false opportunities to make younger opponents overextend/exert themselves.

Defensive Pair 3

#78 LD Payne Aldrich (31)
#87 RD Turis von Guelch (29)

Just a pair of regulars. Do their job, not much else.

Goalies
#4 Jeremy Scherzer
#8 Claude Moerest
#12 Ignacio Valentine

Scherzer is the starter, an average goalie; Moerest is another average goalie, used to give Scherzer a rest; and Valentine is a slightly below average goalie but can attack effectively when pulled out of the net.

Home Stadium

Falconwhereveryouare's home games during the group stage will be played in the Crow's Nest (Cap. 18,900) located in the scenic northern city of Umber.

Soviet Canuckistan Roster

Image

Jersey:Image

Background: Hockey is a key element of Canuckistani culture. During the long, cold winters, hockey was often the only way for people to socialize. Arenas and Backyard Rinks are flooded every year for the 30 million organized and recreational hockey players in Soviet Canuckistan. In 1955, the Soviet Canuckistan National Hockey team was founded to bring the best of Soviet Canuckistan's hockey players to the world. This year's team is fast and agile and very rarely incurs penalties, just like the style of hockey in Soviet Canuckistan.

News: There has been many changes since WCoH 17 in Canuckistani Hockey. One thing that will impact the team is the separation of Soviet Quebexico from Soviet Canuckistan, there was a lot of talent from Quebexico and now most of it is gone but there has been quite a few new players that have stepped up to the plate to make this a winning WCoH 18 team. Another event in Canuckistani hockey has been the dissolution of the IHL which has affected many players. But this year, ranked 55, Soviet Canuckistan will come in fighting and be their strongest team in years.

Roster:

RW- #3 Stephan Polomaniuk
Team:Moscawa Beavers
Age:22
Background:Born in the small town of Skabank, Soviet Canuckistan, Stephan became talented at hockey at a young age, at the age of 16, he was drafted into the Second Division of Soviet Canuckistani hockey, a first in Soviet Canuckistan as he was the youngest hockey pro ever there. He quickly began to shine, racking up an impressive 122 points in 75 games. At 17, he was moved up into the First Division where he continues to amaze, with his last season producing 95 points in 75 games.

RW-#82 Sgt. Andrei Petrovski
Team:Red Army Moscawa
Age:24
Background:Born into an army family, Andrei was used to playing many styles of hockey due to moving around a lot. Whether it was the rough play of the Quebexicans or the agile play of the West, he picked it up quickly and combined the styles to suit his needs. After joining the army at 18, he joined the Red Army team and in his first season racked up 77 points in 55 games. He continues to combine his finesse and physical play and got 87 points in 74 games last season.

RW-#43 Anthony Dubruch
Team:Moronto Spitfires
Age:20
Background:A fast player, Anthony has continued to defy the experts. Diagnosed with polio as a child, for years he had to walk with a knee brace and thought he could never play hockey again. However, defying the odds, at the age of 15, he was accepted to the prestigious St.Mark's hockey academy and his play excelled from there. However, in his rookie year, he was involved in a car crash, breaking his right femur, after months of recovery, he came back in the ice and finished his rookie year with 10 points in 3 games. This last season, he got 65 points in 55 games.

RW-#31 Julien LaTrappe
Team:Cowgary Cowboys
Age:26
Background: Born in Laclave, Soviet Canuckistan, Julien has always been under the hockey radar. Not even playing high-level hockey for most of this childhood, at the age of 17, he excelled and was drafted into a Second Division team. From there he stayed a fourth-liner but in his sixth season, defied predictions and began to become a point-a-game player and was quickly introduced to the elite play of the First Division at the ripe age of 24, a late start for many First Division player. Last year, with the Cowboys, he acquired 82 points in 75 games.

LW-#7 Koos van Key
Team:Iqualuit Fighting Narwhals
Age:32
Background:Born to a farm family, hockey was the second biggest activity after harvesting in his tiny community. He quickly outpaced the skill of the rural leagues and at the age of 12 had to move to the large city of Deadmonton to continue his quest for hockey glory. After getting out of high school, he played for a college team in Moscawa before at the age of 22, was drafted to the Fighting Narwhals. As one of the veterans on the team, he'll lead the young players to the international stage.

LW-#13 Ian Ioeusci
Team:Potcouver Pirates
Age:18
Background:Born to the family of one of the founders of the largest insurance company in Soviet Canuckistan, Ian always could have the best hockey equipment. In only his second year of hockey, Ian was chosen to help represent Soviet Canuckistan on the world stage, one of the youngest ever to represent SC in hockey.Playing for the Potcouver Pirates in his rookie year, he excelled, marking 97 points in 75 games.

LW-#94 Paul Farnsworth
Team:Deadmonton Zombies
Age:23
Background:Also an accomplished baseball player, Paul is an all-around athlete. Born into a sport-loving family, Paul was introduced to many sports at a young age and excelled at most of them. An accomplished hockey player, last season he got 83 points in 72 games.

LW-#86 Corey Smith
Team:Qualifax Whalers
Age:26
Background:Born into a family of fishermen, Corey hardly had anytime for hockey. However, in the time he did have he excelled and as soon as he turn 18, he quit the family business and began to play hockey. He rose throughout the ranks, quickly becoming a first line player for the Whalers. Last season, plagued by injuries, he scored 55 points in 47 games.

C-#28 Andrew Pollock
Team:St. Beaversburg Rougnecks
Age:28
Background:One of Soviet Canuckistan's greatest stars, Andrew will be someone to watch. After a stellar year in 2009-2010, setting an SCPHL scoring record with 142 points in 75 games, he's been propelled to stardom. With numerous endorsement deals, he's a household name in Soviet Canuckistan. Last season he scored 135 points in 74 games, making it one of his best seasons to date.

C-#46 Vitali Peunov
Team:Moscawa Beavers
Age:21
Background:A newcomer to international hockey, he declined to play after a broken collarbone sidelined him during training camp for WCoH 17. This time he'll be back and ready for his inter nation debut. One of the nation's best p;ayers he achieved a stellar 122 points in 75 games last season.

C-#23 Vyecheslav Mistrenko
Team:St.Beaversburg Roughnecks
Age:27
Background:Even though he's on the third line, he's a force to be reckoned with. With a play style similar to that of his teammate Andrew Pollock, he's a scoring machine. Last year, he scored 54 times, making him one of only 12 Canuckistanis to score more than 50 goals in a season.

C-#11 Heinz Kampf
Team:Qualifax Whalers
Age:25
Background:From a poor immigrant family, Heinz overcame poverty to become famous. Living in the poor village of Hiblini, there was only one skating rink in the town and due to being bullied, he often hardly got any time on the arena, however his father made a small one where his practiced his skills to become one of Soviet Canuckistan's best. In his past season, he got 85 points in 72 games, a true accomplishment for a child of poverty.

RD-#56 Alessandro Virilini
Team:Cowgary Cowboys
Age:19
Background:A young star in Canuckistani hockey, with his physical style of play, has earned him the nickname "The Bulldozer." Often compared to Andrew Pollock, and considered his equivalent in defence, this rookie has skill beyond his age. With an impressive 56 assists last year and 74 points, he'll be someone to watch.

RD-#90 Alexander Langdon
Team:Tunguska Patriots
Age:17
Background:The youngest on the team, this kid has something to prove. A tank on the ice, heavy but fast, his physical style of play is unparalleled. He made his professional debut this year and in 75 games managed to assist 45 goals and scored 15 for a total of 60 points.

RD-#14 Sergei Plovin
Team:HC Chevo
Age:30

What To Expect From the Apples in WCoH 18.

1. Someone will be on the receiving end of a brutal smear campaign from the media. This one isn't exactly a bold position- old coach Guy Lemaire got run out of the most difficult job in Cotdelapoms by unruly media-types after a series of underwhelming finishes in World Cups 16 and 17. As mere tots in the grand scheme of hockey careers, Julien Champagne, Benoît Cohen and Maxime O'Bagels have all been harassed to some degree by people whose job is mostly to create drama that doesn't need to exist, like so many stereotypical suburban teenage girls. Now that Cohen has proven himself to be one of the best players in the country, Sacha Courcelles seems like the likely first choice- the young netminder is in his first World Cup and plays in a small market whose media won't be large enough to effectively jump to his defence. Not unlike Ludovik Labrie!

2. The power play will be excellent. The players on the power play are likely to acquit themselves nicely from media attacks, as this will almost certainly be the Apples' main weapon. Les Citoyens always do most of their work on the power play, and their two PP quarterbacks, Alexandre Briére and Rezzi Tzar'Kr'El will likely be in charge of the Apple power play as well. Benoît Cohen is fantastic at getting in front of the net and redirecting shots on the PP, and will have the time of his life redirecting some intense slap shots from the two Citoyen defencemen. The likes of Maxime O'Bagels and Louis Periard will both be able to use their sublime wristers on one on ones if opposing PK units aren't disciplined enough- and frankly even if they are, they both possess the stickhandling ability to take men on.

3. Rezzi Tzar'Kr'El will do something stupid. He is a net positive for the Apples, a powerful hitter and a great slap shot. He's gotten better at playing defence every season since he entered the league, and he's one of the best players in the country. However, his maturity level is not quite where it needs to be, even now that he's reached his mid-20's. One of the most fun games you can play when watching Les Citoyens is the Rezzi Drinking Game- Rezzi takes an obvious dive, take a shot. Rezzi jaws at an opponent and skates away, take a shot. Rezzi takes an obnoxious slashing penalty, take three shots. It's the easiest way to find yourself passed out for when he scores the game winning goal or shatters the glass with a monster check.

4. Television broadcasts will have to provide a lot of information about Yesopalitha. Let's face it, prior to this tournament, nobody even knew Yesopalitha played ice hockey. We barely even knew who they are to begin with, and somehow the international ice hockey board has decided that they got to host the World Cup, perhaps on some sort of mission to grow the sport. Regardless, we'll learn about them during the qualifiers, as the Apples visit Yesopalitha in matchday 2, part of a schedule that starts out with some minnows of international competition.

5. The friendly with Gyatso-kai at Centre Télépom Mobilité will a classic. These two national teams know each other well, despite not getting to play against one another often. The fans from the blue half of Montréal are going to be excited to have a nationalistic chance to get on Shu's case, and the sports reporters who have been perpetuating this idea that Shu is a choker get to write the easiest articles of the season. Apples win big time, and Shu clearly can't handle tough situations, Apples lose and Shu plays well, and they can all write the articles about how everyone else is making too big a deal out of a friendly match.

No matters what happens, I think we're all happy to have international hockey back- there may be a big disparity between the top teams and everyone else, but there is no greater sporting event than the World Cup of Hockey. If the Apples get a big payoff match in the tournament against a rival like Gyatso-kai, Polar Islandstates or Princess Béatrice Island, the atmosphere will be like no other, as all of those nations have great traveling fan support that can rival that of the Apples. Get your flags ready, this is going to be fun!

Allamunnic States Today
Special World Cup of Hockey Coverage
Not a Bad Start: Regulars down Torisakia in Pre-Qual Friendly

It wasn't a defensive game, that was for sure. And Theo Braanur, Haanryk Dercyk, Danyl Rikken, and Zak Crist all had goals that helped to ensure that the Regulars were able to keep up with a Torisakian team that led for most of the game, up 5-4 with only minutes to go in the third period in front of a disappointingly-small home crowd in Vienna. Throughout the game, the team's most controversial new hire had been nothing but dead weight, being penalized twice (boarding and slashing), and being useful as nothing but a loose-cannon enforcer.

Then, somewhere in those waning minutes, something clicked. Despite being as rough as ever and raising cries of dirty play from many Torisakians in the crowd, Michael Ward managed to find the net with six minutes remaining in the final period to tie the game, 5-5. The other Regulars swirled around the ice, playing with a fury that surprised the Torisakians who took five more shots on goal in that time, keeping them from ever having any quality scoring chances. Ward was key to this as well, knocking several players off-balance as they shot, ensuring that none of them found the net. The Regulars had a few more scoring chances in that time, but none of their next three shots, though on-target, would find their way in.

Ward changed that, smashing in a blistering slap-shot that gave the Regulars a 6-5 lead with forty-three seconds remaining in the game. Despite the Torisakian's desperate efforts to tie the score once more in the game's waning seconds, the Regulars' rough-and-tumble play would be more than sufficient to give them their first win of the Eighteenth World Cup of Hockey. Already, three players have two points, as Theo Braanur, Danyl Rikken, and Haanryk Dercyk had a goal and an assist each. Of course, one player had three points; Michael Ward, the media-branded "loose-cannon," while far from disciplined or clean in the game, had two goals and an assist, placing him at the head of the Regulars' roster in terms of scoring.

And the team's coach didn't seem at all displeased. Even when pressed about the five goals the team gave up, Kyle Smart shrugged. "A bit of rust is to be expected. That's why we played a friendly instead of letting it creep up on us in the first game of qualifiers. I'm proud of our players for going out and getting the win. It's a good start to what's looking to be a tough campaign. Not perfect, by any means, but that's why we'll keep working. It's a good start."

The team's captain, the 40-year-old Dercyk didn't seem overly concerned by the team's lack of defensive prowess in this game. "We'll work on that. It was to be expected. We're working with a lot of new players and without some old hands. We've got to tighten up, obviously, and I intend to do my part in that, but I don't think there's any reason to be any more concerned than before over that. We've got stuff to be worried about, of course, but this ain't one of those things, yet."

The Regulars have been drawn into Group 9 as the second-highest-ranked team in the group; they'll run a gauntlet with 8th-ranked Mohawk Clans, 44th-ranked Homelands Our, and unranked Areais, Cowardly Pacifists, and Syleruias. The Regulars' group and schedule is as follows:

Group 9
(NR)Areais
(NR)Cowardly Pacifists
(NR)Syleruias
(44)Homelands Our
(8)Mohawk Clans
(24)Allamunnic States

MD1: @ Areais
MD2: v. Homelands Our
MD3: @ Cowardly Pacifists
MD4: v. Mohawk Clans
MD5: @ Syleruias
MD6: v. Areais
MD7: @ Homelands Our
MD8: v. Cowardly Pacifists
MD9: @ Mohawk Clans
MD10: v. Syleruias

The Regulars open with Areais, a team that they have next-to-no information on. With any luck, the team will find their place on defense and be able to play on the level that the country expects them to.

"Just what did we do wrong? How did we lose, coach?"

"Well, you all played fine. Six goals is a great job"

"So, why'd we lose?"

"Well, you see, it was fate, magic, and sorcery"

"Coach, you aren't making any sense"

"No, listen to me. What's the luckiest number there is?"

"Ummmm, 42?"

"No, you dimwitted duffeldorf!"

"Hey, there's a new one"

"Yes, whatever, well, the luckiest number there is is seven"

"Seven?"

"Seven."

"What in the name of Margaret does 'Seven' have to do with anything?!"

"You don't understand. Seven has everything to do with anything"

"Oh, this should be a good one"

"Listen, men, who did we play?"

"Michael VII"

"Yes, not Michael VIII or VI. Michael Seven"

"Not getting it, coach"

"Michael SEVEN."

"Yeah...."

"How many goals did they score"

"They beat us, they scored 7"

"Right! Right! Now, you understand!

"I'm not understanding anything right now, coach"

"Michael seven scored seven!"

"Yeah...so?"

"So? Its obviouis, isn't it?"

"What's obvious, coach? You know, I'm fearful for your sanity"

"Fear all you want, but can't you tell? Michael VII has the seven factor"

"Ummm, the seven factor?"

"Damn, not the reaction I was looking for. Yes, the seven factor"

"And so..."

"Clearly they'll win all their ganes"

"So? Great for them. But we aren't them, coach, we're us"

"Yes, I was coming to that. We open against Gyatso-Kai"

"Yes, I know. Our asses will be royally kicked"

"But, as the first team to play Michael VII, we are at an advantage. We can try to take the seven factor, anf win our gane against Gyatso-Kai"

"But, coach, Gyatso-Kai is one of the best teams in the world"

"If we can take the factor, we can defeat them"

"Okay, so, what are our tactics for this gane?"

"I've outlined them in this equation here:"

7vii(cxvii)gk(7c)

"Just what the hell does that mean?!"

"Its simple, really. 7vii is the seven factor. Cxvii is us with the seven factor. Gk is Gyatso-kai's skill, without a seven factor, and 7c is an assesmrnt of our skill last game. So, solving the equation for x will show how we can beat Gyatso-Kai.

"Coach, its an impossible equation"

Its not. And I expect every one of you to have solved for x tomorrow"

--minutes later--

"Hey, coach? You know we play Mantenwic, not Gyatso-Kai tomorrow?"

"Do we really? My mistake, I was just looking over this schedule"

"What schedule"

"Why, this one, of course. A nation called Salchar, very interersting"

"Salchar? I've never heard of them. They any good"

"Decent, it seems. They came second in their group in the Olympics"

"Anything else?"

"Well, they participated in the Coupe Coutu, and it seems they have entered this World Cup once before as well, but other than that, I can find no mention of them. Not even a map of the nation. Anyway, they play Gyatso-Kai, and that's where I confused you all."

"So... How do we plan to play against Mantenwic?"

"We still can use the seven factor, though it will lose some of its power"

"Why on earth will it do that?"

"Well, the bison is infinitely more powerful than the swirling air of mystery surrounding Mantenwic. Why, do you know, I never saw their team sheet. And, as you well know, while 7 is the most powerful magical number, mystery and darkness have been known to overcome it"

"Right... And what's this with bison"

"When we do play Gyatso-Kai, we will be able to harness the power of the bison through the 7 factor"

"How?"

"Through another series of equations I've drawn up. Ill give them to you wjen we do play Gyatso-Kai. For now, however, we must pay careful attention to our tactics against Mantenwic"

"So, we're harnessing the power of the other team's names or desirable traits through complex mathematical equations?

"You got it"

"And you expect thi nonsense to win hockey ganes?"

Shuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!

Everyone and their mother went into the exhibition match between Gyatso-kai and the Apples at Centre Télépom Mobilité with one thing on their mind- how to best get into Shu's head. He's a splendid goalie, no doubt- when he's on, he is one of the best in the world, and if he was a total sieve no armchair Apples analyst would spend any amount of time thinking of how to beat him. It is really a testament to his quality that everyone who isn't a Royals fans thinks extensively about how to break his spirit- and yet here we are. The Apples were able to break through that Great Wall and there is no doubt that the Ice Bisons will be unable to get the "SHUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU" chants out of their heads.

The Apples potted their first goal in the first period, at 10:39 when Brendan Burnaby shot right into the pads of the Gyatso-kai netminder, who kicked the puck right back to Burnaby on the left slot. The Rangers winger saw a clear lane to unlikely scorer Serge Noël on the right slot, who had an easy time jamming it into the Ice Bison net when Shu had bit towards Burnaby. Huangguo is 38 years old and perhaps no longer has the excellent lateral movement, and as such may have made the first save, but lost out on the second chance- and that's when the chant started. For literally the remainder of the match, the Montréal faithful had a seemingly perpetual "SHUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!" chant going, extending the U out like a cicada's drone. Whilst Shu was beaten only once more, on a wraparound by Louis Periard, it must have been distracting to the Ice Bison players not used to the crazies in Montréal.

The Ice Bisons were not entirely useless, Hakoda Ishii scored a lovely goal in the second period that beat Sacha Courcelles backhand shelf, glove side. The Ice Bison captain wasn't the only Avatarian player to look promising, Kal Skirata demonstrated why he's highly coveted by many Cotdelapomais clubs. Skirata didn't get on the scoresheet, but took 5 shots and did a good job of getting in front of Courcelles and making his job difficult. He is only 20 and will be finishing up with university in Gyatso-kai, but that doesn't mean that we can't speculate perpetually that he might wind up with les Citoyens.

Frankly, Shu was pretty good, making 22 saves, including a great glove save on teammate Maxime O'Bagels. That doesn't sell papers though, and the hockey talking heads on TV won't have much to say about Shu being adequate in a tense situation, so get ready to hear about the fans, and about how his lateral movement is not nearly as good as it should be- he did get beat twice as a result of that. CHL fans and future Gyatso-kai opponents would do well to watch the videos and try to move from side to side to beat him.

-------

Note about the game against Camerania: it will take place at Toussaint Forum in Chambly, Marianne.

LINDBLUM, YOHANNES -- As a ceremonial opening ceremony for the Camian embassy in Yohannes, the national teams of both Yohannes and Camwood played on the Casper Ambassadorial District Public Ice Rink. Boards and metal bleachers were quickly purchased to make way for the opening friendly for Camwood. 125 dignitaries and embassy staff, not to mention their families, filed into watch a spectacular friendly on a Saturday afternoon.

Action started up quickly as Dominic Taylor was issued a rude awakening via hit by Charlton Langston on a forecheck. Timothy Green didn't like this and he went to the box for slashing Charlton Langston at 04:09 in the first period. The Camian penalty kill effectively fought off the power play and went to business. Dominic Taylor made a hard slapshot that went off the blocker of Ólafur Tryggvi Thorirsson and Jónas Jón Sigurdsson got the rebound and fed the puck up to center Frederick Jónas Steinsson. Steinsson has a fastbreak and no other than Ryan Wesbrooks hustled down to the defensive zone and went to his knees to block a shot.

The first period ended with no score. The second period started up rather quickly when Alfred Sindri Nielson was called on a tripping penalty. Camwood went straight to work.In the first thirty seconds Camwood rallied four shots before the Yoohnnesian penalty kill was able to clear the puck into neutral ice. John Moncrief and his forward line rallied straight back into the attacking zone. Finally, Nick Collens fed a perfect puck up to the point where Dominic Taylor ripped a slapshot the sent the puck past the Yohannesian goalie.

The rest of the second period went smoothly despite Alex Russell from Camwood getting called on boarding. However Yohannes, only had one shot during the entire power play, and the penalty was killed with ease. Going into second intermission, the score was 1-0 in favor the Jays.

The third period got off to a slow start. Both team traded unsuccessful forechecks, and what looked liked half-hearted play. At 07:13, Yohannesian Center Frederick Jónas Steinsson made contact with a puckless John Moncrief and got called on interference. That set up a Camian power play. Just like the previous man advantage, Camwood turned on the turbos to score a power play goal. This time, Christopher Cooper passed the puck to John Moncrief from behind the net. Moncrief put the puck at the five hole and got net. Camwood then had the lead, 2-0.

Spectators started to file out and the rest of the final period went with out commotion. Austin Hill was called for hooking at 17:48, but that power play didn't result in anything and the final horn sounded to signal the end of the period and the end of the game. It was a dominating performance by Camwood and hopefully the confidence made in this game will carry forward to help the Camians succeed in the group stage games.

Txordin held his head in his hands for a full minute. Victor remained seated behind his desk, his back as upright as possible, upper-lip stiffened, claret and green tie still as tight and as straight as possible. I can worm my way out of this he thought, he's just a dumb hockey player from the mountains. He probably can't even string three sentences together in Anglo.

Txordin took his face out of his palm and raised his palm out in front of him, over the desk, palm facing the ceiling.
"But why Nordic names? Of all the people to assume are good at Ice Hockey, why the sodding Nords?"
"Well.." began Victor, "the intern in question is, I believe, Silexheran. In Silexhera, the Nordic people are stereotypically tall and blonde and used to cold weather.."
"Pfft, yeah, in a foreign country. You sound a bit Silexheran yourself, 'Victor'"
"I am, as a matter of fact, of Silexheran extraction"
"And how long have you been in Cathair?"
"...a few weeks"
"A few weeks? How did you get put in charge of Audioslavian hockey? Are you some rich bastard's son or something? How many people did you have to fellate to get a job like this? A job you have zero qualifications for apart from being some white guy who runs stuff?"
"Now now, no need for Ad Hominem attacks"
"That wasn't Ad Hominem; your foreigness, twattery and nepotistic reasons for employment are legitimate excuses for your incompetence"
"Now, you're just assuming I was given this job by a family member..."
"I'm right though, aren't I?"
"..yes but"
"Gargh" uttered Txordin, his head placed back into his hands.
"I really don't see this as being a big problem" said Victor, cautiously, now almost certain that he had under-estimated the Sierra Herraduran's capacity for Anglo and rational thought.
"Well you wouldn't, would you? You're an arse. An arse. Would you like me to explain the problem to you?"
"Well.. I.."
"Would you like me to explain the problem to you?"
"...OK"

Audioslavia is one of the oldest nations in Nationstates, its borders having been part of the political landscape since the dawn of civilisation. The land was originally settled by slavic people - hence the name - but what little records we have from the time indicate that they may have been wiped out after only a few years by marauding vikings, hell-bent on rape and pillage and flat-pack furniture. These vikings were, indeed, tall and blonde and long-haired and ate meatballs and made pornographic films and every stereotype one can imagine about the nords. They settled in Audioslavia and never moved.

For hundreds and thousands of years.

"Audioslavia is, in its Northern regions, a hot, hot country, with part of the northern border touching on the tropic of capricorn. These Vikings, after settling in on the eastern coast, found themselves a bit sweaty, and decided to try to find colder climes. Had they travelled just a matter of fifty kilometres south they would have found the chilly Sierra Herradura mountains - where I'm from - and settled there, but they didn't. Disorientated, not realising they were in the southern hemisphere, they travelled North, their surroundings getting hotter and hotter until, finally, they gave up and settled in the northern regions of Audioslavia, where they stayed.

Hmm. How best to explain the next part. Victor. You're white. Do you know why you're white?"

"Yes. My parents are white."

"I mean as a race"

"Oh.. erm.. because... the sun... melanin... erm..."

"In other words, no"

"...no"

"Let me explain. When homo-sapiens first started migrating from the centre/south of the world they ended up, eventually, in the northern, colder regions of the planet. Places we now know as Polar Islandstates and Icemark and all those places. Now, these early humans were still black, and a little hairy, and as such suffered from the lack of sunlight in these northern regions. If someone has dark skin they have more trouble absorbing Vitamin D from the sun, and in the arctic regions their ability to withstand sunburn and sunstroke is entirely useless. So, of these, say, ten thousand black settlers in the northern regions, which one is better at converting sunlight to Vitamin D?"

"Erm"

"Come on, Victor, this is easy"

"Erm... the palest one"

"Exactly. The guy with the lighter shade of skin is going to be healthier than the rest. Healthier equals attracting more mates, equals mating more, equals having more offspring. If paler-skinned people become healthier than darker skinned people, and have more babies than darker skinned people, then what's going to happen eventually?"

"I see..."

"Exactly. You end up with paler and paler generations until, finally, most of your tribe are, well, white. In Audioslavia, Victor, the Nords started living in places that were very, very hot. What do you think happened over the thousands and thousands of years of Audioslavian history?"

"I think I see.."

"Our Nords, Victor, are dark-skinned. Did you not wonder why 60% of Cathairians are black? And that those black people have names like Jansen, Polssen, Stromgaard and the like?"

"Well, I have to admit I haven't spoken to one of those in all the time I've been here" replied Victor, still a little confused from Txordin's explanation.

"What do you mean 'one of those'? Look, the point is simple. Guys called Polssen and Jansen aren't going to do shit on an Ice Hockey rink. Me and my pals froM Sierra Herradura, however, have spent hundreds of generations living in the cold mountains, playing Ice Hockey our entire lives. We won't be as good as the rest of the world, who play in professional league systems and play at a high standard for weeks and months on end, but we could at least hold our own. Now, of our tiny squad, I can count six, six Sierra Herraduran - or 'Ausque' - names. The rest? Pfft. There's a roller-hockey team in Cathair and it looks like all these guys are on their books"

"There must be a good cross-over between roller hockey and ice hockey, surely?"

"Well lets hope so, Victor, lets hope so. Let's hope a group of losers who club together on a Wednesday night and knock a ball around with a stick, against each other, for an hour, in between their day jobs, can hold their own against the best Ice Hockey teams in the world, because I've been playing this damn sport all my life, and I know I'm going to struggle..."

Meghan’s Blog

So yes, it is time for a run.
We have heard the complaints from you, and regardless if those criticisms are designed to put a spark in us, or to get us to never play hockey again, we can hear them and we understand them. There have become two trains of though concerning our national hockey team. One is that we consistently do well, get a good playoff seed, and give you all a lot of cheer about. People who think this way like that we do not have a lot of turnover in our rosters. The other thought is that we never make a big run anymore. We’ll have a strong group stage, but somehow always get knocked out in the playoffs: the ghosts of Carasatoga when we played in Cotdelapoms still haunt us, after all. The people who think this way want to see a complete roster overhaul. They don’t just want a good performance, they want a Cup. This all shows in our ranking, of 6th. It’s a good ranking and one that will get us respect. It also shows that we don’t advance far enough in these things, that there is still a handful of teams playing better then us.

Here we are then, on the cusp of a vial Cup for the nation. We can shut up the critics with a great run, or we can allow them to get louder. It’s a tough competition, and sometimes in hockey just one or two bounces can go against you and totally ruin your game. I know that we play hard, but the critics also know that who would replace us, would also play hard. So, are many of our jobs on the line with the Cup? Maybe. I don’t think there would be a complete overhaul, but we know that the 18th World Cup of Hockey has to be closer to what happened in the 11th such Cup, and not when we choked in that game to Carasatoga in the 16th. We are in what figures to be a good group, opposed by 14th-ranked Darmen, a nation who’s improving in the international sports scene, as well as Audioslavia. Ask your grandparents for the stories that their grandparents told them about Audioslavia. Sure, they’re unranked but we’re not going to be fooled by that. If you read anything from their media, however, be sure that you have given yourself about 15 minutes to read it from start to finish. Weatherdon, Equestrain States, and 42nd ranked Narsora will also be in the group, which is the 4th of 10 overall groups. Though most expect us to qualify, we still will have to bust our collective ass in order to do so and go to Yesopalitha. It’s a bit unusual that a nation is hosting something they have never actually competed in yet, but we’ve begun to become familiar with this nation in other sports, and feel as though they will put on a good show.

So that’s that. The fun starts tonight!

Coming into the pre-qualifying friendlies last night, the Bisons were off their game, allowing an early goal from Serge Noël to set the momentum for a 2-1 defeat at the Centre Télépom Mobilité in Cotdelapoms last night.

"It just wasn't our night," said Head Coach Kad Skirata in a post-game interview. "Try as we did, we could not get past our own shortcomings. Something to work on before the start of the tournament."

As right as he was, it just seemed like Shu Huangguo was off. Perhaps it was playing in Cotdelapoms — a nation he has called home for the last three seasons — that threw off the Great Wall. Perhaps it was the incessant drone of his last name from the insane fans of Montréal who were just dying to distract him. Speaking with Hakoda Ishii, it would seem that the latter was more than likely.

"It was incessant," spoke Ishii at the post-game conference. "It was unrelenting... as if a thousand buzzerbees were right in your helmet, buzzing away. It made it hard to hear teammates. It made it hard to hear Kad'buir on the bench. That second period penalty was because I couldn't hear Kad'buir."

The penalty Ishii speaks of came in the second period, when Ishii jumped the boards at the wrong time, resulting in a "Too Many Men on the Ice" penalty he would end up serving. This was only one of four penalties in a game which was described as one of great sportsmanship. Both teams seemed very happy to be facing one another, with an almost friendly rivalry developing in the wings.

Rivalries are good for team development... Especially when you are in the top ten of the world...

With the first game of the Group Stage looming over the horizon, we are left looking to the first day matches. With the Ice Bisons travelling to International Salchar Hockey Dome to face off against the Salcharian *smudge*, we are gearing up for one exciting World Cup. Around the Group, we have Mantenwic travelling to Rushmore to face off with Carmadin, while the third match is set to take place in Thatius, with the unranked Falconwhereveryouare facing off boldly against 36th-ranked Thatius; a team in which the Bisons drew 3-3 in the 16th World Cup of Hockey.

Preview: Matchday 01 at URSalchar

Going up against an unranked team is never something Skirata enjoys. However, with the set up of the tournament as it is, the Ice Bisons have to face the two unranked teams of Group Three back-to-back, first away and then at home. Will the Bisons unleash the fury of a team bent on World Cup Glory? Or will they pitter-patter around the puck and hold the game to a single goal defeat...

We hope the former...

The Harp Seals

That's right, be afraid. Be very afraid.

Backstory and Play Style: Located in a temperate climate zone, the Armed Republic really does not have the appropriate weather to promote widespread appreciation of the sport of Hockey. Most of the Hockey fans reside in the colder northern parts of the nation. The violent nature of the sport also does not play particularly well in a nation renowned for its pacifism.

The Harp Seals are a much tougher group than their mascot would suggest. Eschewing the primarily defensive style that characterizes most CP sports, Seals' Coach Erik Kirchhoff has put together a team of offense-minded young players. Ejections for fighting are common. The team is well-known for its streakiness: often either winning or losing by large margins.

Just about anything is fair game as far as I'm concerned. Just don't be a jerk. Word of warning: I don't godmod but there's a good chance I'll fight, eject, and/or injure your players if you let me.

Kyle Bosche, a tall, wiry, blond-haired blue-eyed lanky dude, was being his normal hot-doggey self, juggling a few pucks with the blade of his stick. Young Heinrick Klein, the baby of the team at a mere 16 years of age, watched in amazement at the dextrous display. He was even more amazed when Kyle kept the pucks in the air with only one hand on the stick, grabbed a hamburger with his other hand, and started to talk all at the same time.

"So, you ready for the Thatius game, kid?"

"Oh, uh... I thinksht sho."

Kyle looked sideways at the sprite young ginger; "Do you have braces?"

"Um... mahbe..." Heinrick said as he covered his mouth.

"Pfahahaha! Going out onto the international stage, where countless thousands will be watching you compete all around the world, and you're still wearing braces! Priceless. Watch out, though; the Thatius team is a bit more aggressive than us, and we don't want an on-ice brawl to put all that nice, expensive dental work... on ice." Kyle was absolutely cracking himself up, without letting a puck drop.

"Do... do jou really thinksht there will be uh fite?"

"Nah, I'm just joshing you."

"Who'sh Josh?"

"Uh... nevermind. Just try your best and I'm sure you'll do us all proud." Kyle gave Heinrick a 'winning' smile and a pat on the back, sending the green boy off to start is long and possibly, if he's lucky, successful career. The pucks were still in the air.

Reigning Olympic Gold Medalists look to take home World Cup of Hockey Trophy
By:John Polosson

Darmen will welcome Audioslavia to the Scott City Ice Arena for the opening game in the Group Stage of the 18th World Cup of Hockey. Darmen, the Gold Medalists at the 7th Winter Olympics, held in Nevernd, Liventia, and ranked fourteenth in the World, are looking to bring the trophy home. I sat down with Head Coach Marc Lemaire, who has led the Scott City Oilers to their current position as the highest ranked professional club in the Multiverse, and talked about the team that will be competing in this edition of the World Cup of Hockey.

Me: Let's start with the netminders, Roloson and Kochan. What do they bring to the table?

Marc: Well, Roloson is one of the world's best Goaltenders. He's been one of the Oilers most important players, leading us to the Number One ranking we currently hold in the CHL Rankings.

Me: Could you name all of his accolades and titles, or are their too many?

Marc: Ummm, lets see. He's led us to four straight Southern Rushmore Super League Titles, and was named the MVP of the league in this latest season. He's won the Goalie of the Year award three times, and led us to two straight CHL Final appearences, in CHL9 and CHL10, with us bringing home the glory in CHL10, mostly due to his great play in the shootout.

Me: What about Kochan?

Marc: I'd say he's one of the Top 15 Goaltenders in the Multiverse. He led the Darmenians to a Semifinal appearence in the latest Champions Hockey League, and has always kept them inside the top three in the Southern Rushmore Supere League.

Me: Lets talk about the First Line then.

Marc: Mitchell and Brown are two solid defensemen, although they're not the best on the squad. Gaborik and Dupuis add a real presence on the wings, and just love to crash the net. Ronning adds a real presence down in the crease, and is great for blocking the opposition goaltenders vision.

Me: Is it true that Brent Brown and Todd Dupuis will be spending the next couple of seasons playing in Civil Citizenry?

Marc: Yes it is. They told me that they were happy with their contracts and all that, but they just wanted a change of scenery, and I think their stay in Civil Citizenry will do them some good. Brown will be playing with the Janwick Stars, who had a tough time this past season, only finishing fourth in the Central Division. I think that adding Brown will be a great additition for the Stars, and I expect they'll have a much better season this time. As for Dupuis, he'll be playing for the Kyle Red Waves, who finished second in the Central Division, and lost to the Portsdan Wolverines in the First Round of the CHL Ice Cup Royale. I think he should be a great offensive weapon for them.

Me: How many competions and Leagues can you name that have an abbreviation of CHL?

Marc: Too many. *Laughs* There's the Cotdelapoms Hockey League, the Civiline Hockey League in Civil Citizenry, the Camwood Hockey League, although I think they've been renamed something else now, and the Champions Hockey League. If we could just get ChocoMilk to sponsor the SRSL and rename it the ChocoMilk Hockey League, we'd have one more to add to the list. *Laughs*

Me: Are you a fan of ChocoMilk?

Marc: No, that stuff's terrible for your heart. It'll give you a heart attack if you drink too much.

Me: Back to the team, what does the Second Line bring to the table?

Marc: Ah, those would be the brawlers. They don't care who their fighting, but it seems as though their gloves are always itchy, or something.

Me: Besides getting into fights, what do they do?

Marc: Not much, you won't see many of those guys score. And they won't give up that many goals either, as they'll be too busy fighting with each other or their opponents. Speaking of which, I should probably kick these guys off the team anyways. *Laughs*

Me: And finally, the Third Line.

Marc: These are the guys who clean up for the second line. You'll see them out on the ice for all of our Penalty Kill situations. Pittenger is probably the best Defenseman in Darmen, if not Rushmore, and it'll be interesting to see what he decides to do here, as he's recieved offers from several of the top clubs in Darmen, and also from the Citiz club, Sparrey Indys. He's gotten quite a bit of intrest lately.

Me: What about the rest of the guys on the Third Line?

Marc: Ozoliņš and Schräder love to work together on roughing up their opponents, and that sometimes gets them into a bit of trouble. Bonds and Clemons are just your average normal forwards, not much special. They just seem to do a good job of hanging on to possesion when we're down a player.

Me: What do you expect from this Campaign?

Marc: We're aiming for the Quarterfinals. We think we can get there easily, but from there we'll have to see. I think we could go all the way, but that Second Line always seems to do something outrageous that stops us in our tracks.

Salchar world cup of hockey preview

Salchar lives, eats, breathes and dies for hockey. Salchars hockey team is the main focus for every salcharian, all other things are ditched if salchar is playing. Sakchars fans have been disapointed by salchars performances in other competitions. In the copo coutu, salchar did horribly, in the winter olympics, salchar missed quification by one point. All of these losses are put behind salchar as the world cup of hockey approaches.

Salchar has only seen freindlies at the ISH dome, so an international cup home opener is an exciting suprise to them. Salchar's schedule includes, third ranked, Gyatso' kai, salcharians wouldove to see a salchar victory at home. Salchar will be using their offensive strategy to break through defenses. Top goalscorers like, the infamous morgan twins and, hard shooting matt kolodziejyk will be a key to sucsess.

Yesopalitha Sports at Nine... With Benjamin Doren!

Benjamin Doren: Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Yesopalitha Sports at Nine with Benjamin Doren show, brought to you by the Yesopalitha Sports Network! In this special increment, we will bring you World Cup of Hockey news, with how our nation is preparing for record number of visitors, and also bring you the Flames' roster for the competition! We'll interview their head coach, Brianna Karson, and talk about the roster in detail. So, without further ado, let's get it started!

Joining us live from the National Ice Hockey headquarters, the Flames' Head Coach, Brianna Karson!

Brianna Karson: "Hello, Ben, and thanks for having me on the show. Hopefully, I can shed some light on who will be playing for the Flames this time in the WCoH, and give some insight on how I am going to run the team. Let's get started."

Benjamin Doren: "Always an honor to talk to you, Brianna. Let's first talk about what the country is doing. The Yesopalitha Sports Committee has announced the cities that will host at least one playoff match: Freedom's Altar, Denal-Ithorn, Irkan City, Hansbrough, Kingston, Raxton, Etoile, and Wolvesbane. The Final is to be held at The Sacred Heart, of course. Anything jump out at you there, Brianna?"

Brianna Karson: "Not really, Ben. These are the biggest cities in Yesopalitha, and they do have the eight nicest stadiums in the Yesopalitha Hockey League. Also, they are geographically spread apart, which will make it easier on our national commute. Should be a great way to showcase to the world what Yesopalitha is like.. To share its culture and its variety to those that are not very familiar with it."

Benjamin Doren: "Indeed, indeed so. The roads are getting a facelift, and the public transportation system is getting a major tuneup as well. It should do well for our economy... Now, let's get to the roster. Who do you have playing for you this cycle?"

Brianna Karson: "Well, as you all know, I am the one that started the Yesopalitha Hockey League... The League has run two seasons so far, and I am excited about the potential of what is to come. I have put together the best of the league in its two installments."

Benjamin Doren: "So... Who's on the first line? The starting five?"

Brianna Karson: "First we have Sergei Dorov, who has been an amazing goalie for the Freedom's Altar Holy Templars. I know that the Templars didn't make it to the playoffs last season, but that wasn't Dorov's fault. I think that his unconventional stance of looking like a frog throws curveballs at opposing players. As long as there is some help with the defense, he should do well, I think. Joining him in the defending end will be the Cohen twins, Brent and Tyler, of the Xavier Hammerheads, the recent YHL champions. They do a great job clearing pucks that can be potentially dangerous, and have worked well together with Dorov so far. Hopefully, they won't have many issues. The Captain of the team is Center Trent Eckhart of the Hansbrough Turtles. Eckhart isn't much of a goalscorer, but he gives tons of assists, and he should be able to feed the puck to our Left and Right wing players - Isaiah Dunsten of the South Hampton Lions and Jack Ingall of the North Hampton Grizzlies. They have thankfully gotten over the fact that they are rivals in the YHL and used that friendly fire to help each other get better. The starting six is starting to gel together, and I hope that they will be a solid team."

Benjamin Doren: "Looks like you have gotten yourselves a team that will do most of its scoring with the wings and most of assists of the center... How would you describe your play?"

Brianna Karson: "I think that can wait till I introduce the second and third lines... Then I can tell you how I plan on running things."

Benjamin Doren: "Oh, sorry. Go on, then."

Brianna Karson: "The second line is built more for finesse for situations when we need a score and we need it now. I have Left Defenseman William Borov of the Lenox Mean Green, who has one of the purest passing techniques that I have ever seen. Opposite him is Nevin Barston of the Xavier Hammerheads. He's known for end-to-end passes that cover the entire rink. Center Peter Demitrius of the Kingston Lynx haven't had the best team to grow up with, but he's got a bright future. Left Winger Quentin Yazin of the Hansbrough Turtles is the fastest skater in Yesopalitha, and Right Winger Victor Kanzin has one mean slap shot. They will be on when we need a score, fast."

Benjamin Doren: "Isn't taking Peter a risk? The Lynx are hardly one of the best teams..."

Brianna Karson: "He has potential that just needs to be cultivated. I think he can amount to something big..."

Benjamin Doren: "So, first line is for defensive normal play, second line for speed. And the third?"

Brianna Karson: "The third line will be the enforcers, the ones that will fight if need be. Center Harold Himbley of the Mean Green has been known to change momentum with a well-aimed punch. Carson Pelzev of the Raxton Beavers and Ronnie Tetan of the Etoile Stars are also fighters. They will seek to restore order of things get out of hand."

Benjamin Doren: "Looks like you have all your needs covered... General playing style?"

Brianna Karson: "We will seek to operate on a system where counter-attacks will be paramount. We will try to defend our end, grab the puck, and score on the other end as fast as possible. Hopefully, our speed and finesse will catch the other teams off guard... They aren't expecting much. Especially at home, where we can showcase the Sacred Heart before the tournament part... It should be interesting."

Benjamin Doren: "Any notes on your competition and schedule?"

Brianna Karson: "We open at home against Mapletish, who have started to make some positive advancements in this sport. This will be followed by a home match against Cotdelapoms... The Apples are the top ranked team in our group and will show us just how much we have to go in order to reach international relevance. This is followed by a road game against Greater Kenya, a fellow unranked team. Then, we host Michael VII, who is better at college football, I think. The last game is at Camerania. Then, we have the schedule reversed. The three road games in the middle will be the toughest part of our schedule."

Benjamin Doren: "Goals? Predictions?"

Brianna Karson: "Hopefully we can finish third... And at least upset one of the ranked teams. I think that the Apples will take the group and we will have a dogfight for second place. All I know is that this group should be entertaining to watch."

Benjamin Doren: "Thank you, Brianna, and good luck."

Brianna Karson: "Thanks for having me, Ben."

Benjamin Doren: "There you have it, folks. Remember to tune in to the YSN to watch the Flames' opening match against Mapletish! See you all next time!"

Team Building Diaries
Maarten Skreig

So, another World Cup of Hockey is about to start, and again we find ourselves stuck in the wilderness at the express wishes of Heliokomman. Honestly, anyone would think he was in charge of the team. I mean, he is, but that's besides the point. Playing for the national team used to be about glory, about publicity, about the spotlight, about the adoration of the fans..

Now apparently its more about the team building exercises, freezing our asses off in the middle of Ellismare in a hut on the edge of a frozen lake.

I mean, I'm only line three, I'm hardly likely to cover myself in glory during the actual tournament, so why I have to come along with all the stars is beyond me. Let Rosenmeyer and Invermuir and de Raek come out here to practise on the lake whilst the rest of us stay at home and watch TV. That's who the spotlight will be on during the tournament, at least.

And I mean, what has the Satvinkset got to do with the Chocomilk Hockey Palace anyway? Very little, I bet. Can't remember the last time I saw someone build a snowman on the rink. I know the Camian league is a bit beyond that stage, anyway.

Honestly, by my reckoning, this is the most difficult fixture we're going to have all group stage, away at Camwood, and here we are, sitting on the edge of lake in the middle of nowhere, doing stretches and partaking in exercises that are meant to help us trust each other.

I swear I saw Heliokomman come out here in nothing but his bare skin the other morning to jump in through a hole her cut for a morning swim the other day. Either that or it was a highly unwelcome mirage. The man's insane. You know he doesn't even want us to be violent, this tournament? Keeps yapping on about letting those who are without sin casting the fist stone. I'm not sure of the connection, personally, but I think he's wrong all the same. You've got to get into a few scraps if you want to rile the other side up into conceding penalties. And that's what we want. I just want us to qualify for the finals in Yesopalitha, first of all. That's the main objective. We've got the team to go far, but these preliminary rounds always scare me slightly with their chances for upsets.

Nuts to Heliokomman, flaming hippie. I'm going to carry on playing like I always have, thanks.

I dunno who the next diary writer is for you, but, I hope they're more enthusiastic about this whole team building thing than I am, for your sake.

The Torisakia News

Torisakia loses pre-qual friendly by a point!

Torisakia started the tournament off bad last night as they lost to the Regulars by a score of 6-5. Torisakia had a 5-4 lead with 6 minutes left in the 3rd. But somehow, something clicked and the Regulars scored a goal late to tie the game. Torisakia tried the net at least 5 times but were unsuccessful. With 3 seconds left, the Regulars' own Michael Ward hit a blistering slap-shot to the net to give the Regulars the lead. The Ice Birds had fallen just short within the last seconds. It was such a disappointing loss. However, the friendly game didn't count for a win-loss. The Torisakia Ice Birds play against a non-ranked Bloodbath Generation tonight at PS: ILOVEYOU Arena. From there, the Ice Birds will play New High Charity 24 at home. Then, play Abcdefghijklmnopqrstuk away. TaQud away, and Qazox at home. And from MD6-MD10, they play the same teams, but play the games they played away at home and vice versa. The News will be covering all of the latest news for the WCoH 18. May the best team win. and Go Ice Birds!!!
