I'm sorry for that last match man. But there was still revenge to be served

IF you wait to come back after World Cup 61... perhaps.

Noobie question alert: Where's the thread explaining how the ranking points are calculated? I noticed I got two points from the 59th World Cup and my team won two matches (so I'm betting there's a 1-point-per-match-won kinda thing going on). Just trying to understand the math.

The formula can be found here.

Took me 7 cup cycles to crack the top 30, you could do it in less if you keep active.

What the fuck. Fuck that bullshit. One three-line RP and Taeshan's on to the World Cup. Makes me not want to participate at all.

Totally understandable; worth pointing out that Taeshan wouldn't have received an invite to the CoH had you won that playoff. That said, rank does still play a part, and that has to always be the case. It may simply be a question of how much emphasis each set of hosts puts on rank v.s. RP bonus.

Stop moaning

Mangolana 3–2 Queer Poco el Mono Ara

QPMA is ranked 7th and Mangolana is ranked 45th. The RP bonus is a small part of scoring system.

QPeMA didn't RP at all and didn't even post a roster. I think you're wrong there, that result clearly shows where RP has played a part. You have no right to tell anyone to "stop moaning".

By ranking, CC should have beaten Taeshan and Taeshan didn't RP very much anyway.

But we are dealing with random number systems which do throw up weird results all the time.
I do think CC will qualify in WC60 or 61.

Since we're all grieving our frustrations over rank vs. RP vs. randomness, I'll have a go with mine. As a noobie to the World Cup, I agree that it's frustrating to put time and effort into creatively(?) RPing every week only to get beat by a team that don't do anything. I RPed at least once every day through MD10, but I still lost both times to Mytannion (who didn't post a roster or RP at all) and Burchadinger (who doesn't even exist anymore!). I get that the ranking serves to simulate the reality of dynastic teams and to reward long term participation. But I would like to see RPs weighted a bit more heavily, since I admit it was frustrating knowing that the ranking bonus made it an almost mathematical truth that I'd just be RPing about how bad my team was losing each day.

That said, I also get that the whole thing is ultimately random, and even the Imperial Canadian Dutchy could beat Aguazul if the number generator gets in one of its moods. I'd just like to see RPing have more of an impact. It is what we're supposed to be doing in this forum, right? RPing?

I did qualify 1st in Group 12 but in the end by like two points over Mangolana, followed by Pretty Awesome Persons one point in third.
Both me and Mangolana RPed but PAP did not. It could have me being 3rd given how close that the top 3 were.

Oh WC58, I did make finals but had to beat Taeshan in a play-off. I wasn't that far from not qualifying that either.

It does.

You got an invitation to the CoH, and the 10th ranked team in the World did not.

Why? Because you RP'd, and they did not.

Thats how your RP directly influences your rank, right there.

The RP bonus was certainly sufficient for a low ranked RPer to do well, but not all the results went great for the RPers. Its all random numbers in the end.

Mytannion beat everyone out on rank last time around too, thats just how it goes. But, we also had a 42nd ranked nation who RP'd frequently win their group and advance automatically to the finals. RPing enhances your ability to get a good result, but it does not, nor has it ever, guaranteed an unranked team to defeat a ranked team just because of RP. If that were the case, there would be no need for a scorinator, and no need for ranks. We would just judge RP's and declare a winner in an ultimate RP knockout tournament.

Thats not how it works. RPing consistently for 3,5,8 cups offers a nation the 'breathing' room of being able to relax a little in the qualifying to build up or prepare a story line for the finals, But as several top teams saw this time around, not posting ANYTHING is an easy way to screw that up real quick.

The cup was shorter this time around, so there were less matches for you to see results over n00b non-RP teams. But by RPing, you get into the CoH, you move up in the rank, and you come back next cup with a higher rank, the same RP drive and a little bit o' luck and you'll be back fighting in the top half of the table mathematically in a shout for the playoffs with 3 games to play.

As they say, its why we play the game. Because the result is not pre-determined. If it were, there would be no need to play.

Oh yes, winning the CoH actually does help. Jeru FC were runner-up in the CoH and then won the next one. The cup after, they finally qualified.

I think having the playoffs be played over two matches (home and away) like they do in the actual qualifiers would be better than the current system where there is just too much riding on just one match after a long qualification campaign. It feels extremely frustrating to narrowly lose one game and thus miss out on qualification when you have not done a lot wrong beforehand.
