International Basketball Newswires (Also IUBC Competition)

Postby Falconfar » Sun Mar 04, 2012 7:31 pm

Hello, and welcome to the International Basketball Newswires. I noticed that NS has club leagues for Ice Hockey, Baseball, Football, and Rugby, but not Basketball. So, I asked around, and got enough interest, so I am making one.

The International Union of Basketball Clubs will hold its first installation. I will scorinate it, and the rules are as follows:
1. Each domestic league can send four teams. Please either post results on this thread or provide me with a link.
2. Each domestic league should rank the teams in order from first to fourth.
3. Any league with two or more nations can send up to six, with a limit of four clubs being able to come from one nation.

The first IUBC cutoff will be set at March 20th, 2012 at 8:00 PM PST.

Also, the IUBC is looking for sponsors, as well as finals bids.

The format of the tournament will be decided after I observe how many nations sign up.

Thank you.

Carmadin Thirty-Nine: First Half Tables

The First half of the C39 season is complete, and there are a few suprises!

3 points for win, 1 point for overtime loss)

Yellow Conference Pld W L OTL PF PA PD Pts
1 CBC Mehnsihn 12 9 2 1 986 837 +149 28
2 Shihn'Dohm Isle 12 9 3 0 972 841 +131 27
3 Club Renegade 12 9 3 0 942 841 +101 27
4 Outpost 12 8 3 1 966 865 +101 25
5 Inter Sehndohn 12 8 4 0 943 900 +43 24
6 Chahr Baskets 12 7 5 0 958 931 +27 21
7 Sharks Sah Moh'uhl 12 6 6 0 941 903 +38 18
8 Anging Arenas 12 5 6 1 932 891 +41 16
9 Abo Blue Wave 12 5 7 0 878 908 −30 15
10 South End 12 3 8 1 811 994 −183 10
11 Volcano 12 3 9 0 903 955 −52 9
12 Warriors BC 12 3 9 0 811 994 −183 9
13 BCS Sho 12 1 11 0 810 993 −183 3

CBC Mehnsihn couldn't claim the top spot till Matchday 13, and they hang only by an overtime loss, and the one point gained from that. Shihn'Dohm Isle, Club Renegade, Outpost, and Inter Sehndohn have all been challengers at one point or another, and the second half will be very exciting to see.

White Conference Pld W L OTL PF PA PD Pts
1 Sho Athletic Club 12 11 0 1 975 795 +180 34
2 Border 12 11 1 0 1006 851 +155 33
3 Northerners 12 7 4 1 942 879 +63 22

6 Chahr BC 12 6 6 0 934 887 +47 18
7 Trojans 12 6 6 0 870 884 −14 18
8 Ebo 12 5 6 1 900 893 +7 16
9 Real Peniclado 12 5 7 0 942 919 +23 15
10 Club National 12 3 9 0 881 1008 −127 9
11 River 12 3 9 0 836 965 −129 9
12 BC South 12 3 9 0 763 909 −146 9
13 Basketball Peak 12 2 10 0 811 973 −162 6

Sho Athletic Club have yet to sustain an outright loss, but their hold on the conference is by only one point, as Border have only one loss to show. Northerners, the team to beat SAC, is a good eleven points behind a top 2 battle.

Blue Conference Pld W L OTL PF PA PD Pts
1 Elcahnd 12 9 3 0 1029 820 +209 27
2 CB Seendok 12 9 3 0 938 786 +152 27
3 Anging BC 12 9 3 0 910 854 +56 27
4 North Abo 12 8 4 0 953 886 +67 24
5 Eastern BC 12 7 5 0 984 924 +60 21
6 Sehndohn BC 12 6 5 1 896 890 +6 19
7 Shared Land 12 6 6 0 920 957 −37 18
8 Capital 12 5 7 0 917 914 +3 15
9 Lion's Roar BC 12 5 7 0 860 972 −112 15
10 Port Town 12 4 7 1 877 936 −59 13
11 Peniclado Beach 12 4 7 1 894 992 −98 13
12 Fight 12 3 9 0 883 980 −97 9
13 South Carmadin Ice 12 1 10 1 892 1042 −150 4

A 3-way tie on points for first makes the Blue the most exciting conference right now, drawing a stark contrast to the White, with 2 teams more than 10 points ahead of third place. It will be very exciting to see this one finish.

Carmadin Thirty-Nine: Matchdays 14-26 and Tournament of the Twelve

The most exciting Basketball league in the world finishes up its inauguaral season, and what a season it has been! Right here are final half results from the three conferences, as well as the action-packed Tournament of the Twelve, or Tot12.

Yellow Conference Pld W L OTL PF PA PD Pts
1 CBC Mehnsihn 24 17 4 3 1942 1676 +266 54 Champions/CCC
2 Outpost 24 17 6 1 1944 1708 +236 52 Tot12 Bye
3 Club Renegade 24 15 7 2 1896 1777 +119 47 Tot12
4 Shihn'Dohm Isle 24 15 8 1 1934 1768 +166 46 Tot12
5 Chahr Baskets 24 15 9 0 1907 1815 +92 45 Tot12

6 Inter Sehndohn 24 14 9 1 1849 1818 +31 43
7 Sharks Sah Moh'uhl 24 11 13 0 1812 1778 +34 33
8 Abo Blue Wave 24 11 13 0 1789 1832 -43 33
9 Anging Arenas 24 9 14 1 1830 1832 -2 28
10 South End 24 9 14 1 1719 1924 -205 28
11 Volcano 24 9 15 0 1791 1872 -81 27
12 Warriors BC 24 5 19 0 1661 1949 -288 15
13 BCS Sho 24 3 19 2 1659 1984 -325 11

CBC Mehnsihn takes a well-deserved victory with a formidable 17-4-3 record. They will compete in the first edition of the Club Champion's Cup. Outpost got at least some compensation for a great season that came up just short, and they will bypass the first round of the Tournament of the Twelve. Club Renegade, Shihn'Dohm Isle, and Chahr Baskets will also compete in the Tot12 for the final CCC Nomination.

White Conference Pld W L OTL PF PA PD Pts
1 Sho Athletic Club 24 23 0 1 1957 1586 +371 70 Champions/CCC
2 Border 24 16 7 1 1929 1794 +135 49 Tot12 Bye
3 SdTIBC 24 15 9 0 1871 1737 +134 45 Tot12
4 Northerners 24 14 9 1 1967 1789 +178 43 Tot12
5 Trojans 24 14 10 0 1820 1786 +34 42 Tot12

6 Autenticà 24 12 10 2 1811 1729 +82 38
7 Real Peniclado 24 12 12 0 1890 1786 +104 36
8 Chahr BC 24 12 12 0 1832 1773 +59 36
9 Ebo 24 11 12 1 1793 1817 -24 34
10 BC South 24 8 16 0 1609 1870 -261 24
11 Club National 24 7 16 1 1714 1954 -240 22
12 River 24 4 19 1 1646 1889 -243 13
13 Basketball Peak 24 4 20 0 1658 1987 -329 12

Sho Athletic Club ran away with the conference crown with a good 21 point margin over Border, the second-place team. Border is given the White Conference's Tot12 Bye for winning "The rest of the conference", as SAC took home a near-unbeaten season. SdTIBC, Northerners, and Trojans will also compete in the Tournament of the Twelve, and Autenticà, a promising team early on, misses out on any offseason competition this time around, with a dissapointing 12-10-2 record.

Blue Conference Pld W L OTL PF PA PD Pts
1 Anging BC 24 19 5 0 1888 1695 +193 57 Champions/CCC

There. There. It was over. Koh'leht Shihnah sat, gasping, on the wooden floor. A month ago, he would not have dreamed it possible. A month ago, he was still celebrating the triumph of going 23-0-1, and winning the Carmadin Thirty-Nine. He knew that his team had just qualified for the first ever International Basketball tournament, and he had been ready to take a well-earned rest.

Then, the memo had come. The CFBS. And more games, and more travel. And these grueling things called "Series". This meant going to Falconfar, playing a game, then racing back to Sho for more and more return fixtures. He hadn't even had time to notice he was in space.

The tournament had taken a huge toll on the players. In a nation where a basketball season was 24 games long, and playoffs were one game, it was a harsh new reality to go play 11 games in a tournament. The first round against Iona Junction hadn't been bad, though. 2 wins and a loss, and they were through. Then came relief. Drawn with CB Seendok, and spared an exhausting trip to Falconfar. 2 quick wins, a humiliating 79-73 loss in Sho, another win, and they were finalists. That's why Koh'leht was here, on the ground, in Iriwati.

The first game had been easy. The Panthers had had a hard time against Anging BC, and had to play a full 5 games. Meant an extra day off for SAC. Their first game would be at home as well, and though the Falconfarians played tough and hard, Athletic dealt them a 76-66 loss.
Then, on the plane. To the docking bay, and to Falconfar, in time to best the Iriwati Panthers again, 76-61.

Back the team went to Sho, and again, in front of a delighted home crowd, they held off a late Panther rally to win, 78-76.

Now, here they were. The tournament was one game from over. They were here, in Falconfar, up 3-0, and winning the deciding game 80-76.
Koh'leht was defending a rather pesky Panther player. He kept darting around, refusing to be covered. Koh'leht let him go. The pass came.

Koh'leht leaped, and grabbed the ball. He raced down the court, flew into the air, and slammed the ball into the basket.

Game Over.

NATIONAL BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Season number two of the BANBC is here! After longer-than hoped for delays, thanks to yet another set of coincidental power outages in every single BANBC arena, we can crown yet another champion! Added to the faux-drama of the top league for Kagdazka and Pazhujebu's distant-second-most popular sport is the fact that four teams will be sent to the brand-spanking new IUBC competition that has recently been organized.

But just a heads up to any super-diligent and/or super-thorough reader... the whole system has changed! After having realized that they had agreed to make the season last two years rather than one, organizers have expanded the regular season to 140 games for every team (again, these will take place over a two-year period). Also, the BANBC Cup, as a separate entity, at least, has been done away with; instead, we'll get to see a standard end-of-season knockout tournament like most basketball leagues have. The best eight teams in the country by final league standings will make it into this tournament, and the four teams that make it to the semifinals will be the IUBC representatives.

Way easier to figure out than that train wreck we had going last season. So, at this point, I guess we can list all of the teams for you before we pummel you with two years worth of results.

ARCHERS

Fans' Favorite Football Club: Yellowknife Yaks

ZEBRAS
City: Mahathu, Pazhujebu
Best Player: G Petya Rostropovich
Fans' Favorite Football Club: Therakham

And it probably goes without saying, but there's no promotion and relegation, like there is in K&P's football leagues. These are the fifteen clubs who have been given franchise rights, so the only way we'll see any changes in the BANBC list of participants is if the league (for some random reason) decides to revoke somebody's license. Which won't happen.

So, enough blabbing, let's get to the results!

---BANBC Pld W L PF PA PD
1 Greyhounds 140 109 31 11415 9581 +1834 Q

9 Orange Berets 140 71 69 10573 10432 +141
10 Yellow Jackets 140 66 74 10421 10421 0
11 Archers 140 57 83 10411 10873 −462
12 Unicorns 140 47 93 9929 11198 −1269
13 Paladins 140 44 96 9945 11208 −1263
14 Dolphins 140 24 116 9690 11594 −1904
15 Inferno 140 14 126 9178 11910 −2732

So that sets up our BANBC Cup quarterfinals! Winners will go through to the semifinals as well as the IUBC! The fixtures are:

(1) Greyhounds vs. (8) Zebras
(2) Purple Frogs vs. (7) Jamaicans
(3) Quasars vs. (6) Nighthawks
(4) Internationals vs. (5) Ice Lions

Ooh, we get the old Urajbina vs. Juvapanam rivalry there in the 2-7 matchup! Kinda sucks that there were only two Kagdaz teams who made it through (Greyhounds and Internationals), though. Oh well. Maybe Pazhujebis are just naturally better at basketball or something.

GAME 1
Greyhounds 89–58 Zebras
Purple Frogs 106–60 Jamaicans
Quasars 99–61 Nighthawks
Internationals 71–74 Ice Lions

GAME 2
Greyhounds 92–83 Zebras
Purple Frogs 74–61 Jamaicans
Quasars 94–78 Nighthawks
Internationals 80–69 Ice Lions

GAME 3
Zebras 59–83 Greyhounds
Jamaicans 76–120 Purple Frogs
Nighthawks 78–77 Quasars
Ice Lions 70–89 Internationals

GAME 4
Zebras 61–81 Greyhounds (Greyhounds defeat Zebras, 4 games to 0)
Jamaicans 66–96 Purple Frogs (Purple Frogs defeat Jamaicans, 4 games to 0)
Nighthawks 67–75 Quasars
Ice Lions 63–91 Internationals

GAME 5
Quasars 84–87 Nighthawks
Internationals 82–79 Ice Lions (Internationals defeat Ice Lions, 4 games to 1)

GAME 6
Nighthawks 64–81 Quasars (Quasars defeat Nighthawks, 4 games to 2)

So there you go! All of the top seeds went through, and we have our IUBC participants, which we'll list in depth down at the bottom of this post. But before we get too excited, let's all have a look at the semifinal fixtures!

(1) Greyhounds vs. (4) Internationals
(2) Purple Frogs vs. (3) Quasars

Both of those two Kagdaz teams we mentioned earlier stayed alive, and now they're going to battle it out for a spot in the finals! Meanwhile, Urajbina's Purple Frogs team takes on Pkethat Šede's Quasars, meaning we'll have a Kagdaz vs. Pazhujebi showdown in the finals.

GAME 1
Greyhounds 72–92 Internationals
Purple Frogs 70–78 Quasars

GAME 2
Greyhounds 75–59 Internationals
Purple Frogs 58–79 Quasars

GAME 3
Internationals 72–60 Greyhounds
Quasars 89–84 Purple Frogs

GAME 4
Internationals 79–63 Greyhounds
Quasars 91–80 Purple Frogs (Quasars defeat Purple Frogs, 4 games to 0)

GAME 5
Greyhounds 90–72 Internationals

GAME 6
Internationals 77–81 Greyhounds

GAME 7
Greyhounds 73–79 Internationals (Internationals defeat Greyhounds, 4 games to 3)

Jeepers. It took the full set of seven games to decide that showdown between the powerful Greyhounds and the sneaky Internationals, but in the end Dyurtyuli's white, green, and red team just barely made it through. That means we'll have the following matchup for the third-place playoff...

(1) Greyhounds vs. (2) Purple Frogs

...and this matchup in the final!

(3) Quasars vs. (4) Internationals

These series' winners will be crowned third-place and champions, respectively. That way we'll be able to put the four IUBC teams in order like we're supposed to. Okay, here we go!

GAME 1
Greyhounds 70–71 Purple Frogs
Quasars 92–70 Internationals

GAME 2
Greyhounds 81–73 Purple Frogs
Quasars 79–67 Internationals

GAME 3
Purple Frogs 56–76 Greyhounds
Internationals 73–79 Quasars

GAME 4
Purple Frogs 75–84 Greyhounds
Internationals 70–56 Quasars

GAME 5
Greyhounds 71–61 Purple Frogs (Greyhounds defeat Purple Frogs, 4 games to 1)
Quasars 81–72 Internationals (Quasars defeat Internationals, 4 games to 1)

Congratulations to the Pkethat Šede Quasars, who will lift the trophy of the second-ever BetAvalanche.kpz National Basketball Championship! Further (but lesser) congratulations to the Dyurtyuli Internationals, the Gelendzhik Greyhounds, and the Urajbina Purple Frogs, who finished second, third, and fourth, respectively.

And so, for the first (but definitely not the last) time, we are proud to announce...

YE OLDE IUBC BLURB

1. Pkethat Šede Quasars
2. Dyurtyuli Internationals
3. Gelendzhik Greyhounds
4. Urajbina Purple Frogs

Kytlerian Basketball League, season 1

There are twelve franchises, from the Aardswood Aardvarks to the Zube Zebras, all playing each other four times on each home court for an 88-game regular season. The top six make the playoffs, with the top two gaining byes to the semi-finals. It really doesn't get much simpler than that. Games can be tied, at least for now; overtime is set to be implemented for next season.

Regular season Pld W D L PF PA PD Pts
1 Bay City 88 76 2 10 7330 5969 +1361 230
2 Santa Mordana 88 63 0 25 7021 6261 +760 189
-------------------------------------------------------------
3 Roddens 88 57 1 30 6919 6316 +603 172
4 Edencliff 88 54 2 32 6906 6384 +522 164
5 Nuffield 88 50 2 36 6798 6696 +102 152
6 Zube 88 49 1 38 6722 6495 +227 148
-------------------------------------------------------------
7 Aardswood 88 43 4 39 6554 6561 −7 135
8 Vengife 88 35 3 50 6627 6819 −192 108
9 Bravin 88 33 0 55 6432 6847 −415 99
10 Alaer 88 26 0 62 6270 6913 −643 78
11 Borlfield 88 20 1 67 6235 7069 −834 61
12 Zeiven 88 12 2 74 6003 7487 −1484 38

A truly dominant regular season for the Bay City Beasts, who certainly were in beast mode for most of the year. The Santa Mordana Magicians join them in the semi-finals with automatic IUBC spots, but which two will join them?

The playoff "qualification series" were best-of-five affairs:

Game 1: Roddens 51-75 Zube; Edencliff 65-62 Nuffield
Game 2: Zube 84-80 Roddens; Nuffield 80-92 Edencliff
Game 3: Zube 54-74 Roddens; Nuffield 64-99 Edencliff (Edencliff clinch series 3-0)
Game 4: Roddens 95-74 Zube
Game 5: Roddens 84-89 Zube (Zube clinch series 3-2)

So the Zube Zebras and the Edencliff Diamonds complete the UICA qualification list, but who would win the KBL title? The "semifinal series" were best-of-seven, and the higher-seeded team has the advantage of a four-game home stretch, although the lower-seeded team is at home for the first two and for Game 7. (In Kytlerian sporting tradition, the home team is always listed first, for all sports.)

Game 1: Zube 76-67 Santa Mordana; Edencliff 55-94 Bay City
Game 2: Zube 76-85 Santa Mordana; Edencliff 67-79 Bay City
Game 3: Santa Mordana 77-67 Zube; Bay City 65-77 Edencliff
Game 4: Santa Mordana 90-71 Zube; Bay City 80-66 Edencliff
Game 5: Santa Mordana 86-63 Zube (Santa Mordana clinch series 4-1); Bay City 79-94 Edencliff
Game 6: Bay City 71-79 Edencliff
Game 7: Edencliff 79-64 Bay City (Edencliff clinch series 4-3)

In a huge upset, the Beasts fall out of beast mode and squander a 3-1 series advantage to set up a Magicians-Diamonds championship series...

Game 1: Santa Mordana 93-72 Edencliff
Game 2: Santa Mordana 83-60 Edencliff
Game 3: Edencliff 68-86 Santa Mordana
Game 4: Edencliff 69-81 Santa Mordana (Santa Mordana clinch series 4-0)

What a buzzkill. The Magicians came through comfortably in every single game and claim the inaugural KBL title.

IUBC entries
1. Santa Mordana Magicians
2. Edencliff Diamond
3. Bay City Beasts
4. Zube Zebras

Seeding Information and Pots

There being ten organizations entered into this competition with four teams each, it was decided that there would be a group stage with ten groups of four teams each. It was also decided that every group will consist of a #1, #2, #3, and #4, all from different nations.
In order to give teams who did well a bonus, National winners are given 5 ranking points, 2nd place 4, 3rd place 2, and last place 0. The max skill will be set at 20 to give plenty of chances at upsets due to some nations' leagues being stronger than others, etc.

Group Stage

Ten groups, four teams each, double round robin. Top two seeds qualify for playoffs. The two best second-pace teams make it to the Round of 16 while the other eight play a one game, play-in series.

Group 1 Pld W L PF PA PD
1 Victoria Royals (VLD) 6 5 1 473 431 +42
2 Trewich Urbanites (CVC) 6 4 2 474 417 +57
3 Edencliff Diamond (TKP) 6 2 4 469 448 +21
4 Les Alliés Sharpshooters (SAU) 6 1 5 391 511 −120

Despite being the third seed in the group, the Royals of Valladares stormed the competition. Trewich did manage to show why they were the group's top seed with a 4-2 record, and they split the series, 1-1.

Group 2 Pld W L PF PA PD
1 Capetown Cobalt (TAE) 6 5 1 543 466 +77
2 Santa Mordana Magicians (TKP) 6 4 2 474 465 +9
3 Urajbina Purple Frogs (K&P) 6 2 4 466 498 −32
4 Frauhofen Terror (FAL) 6 1 5 452 506 −54

The top two seeds made it in reverse order. Capetown and Santa Mordana split the series.

Group 3 Pld W L PF PA PD
1 Jyllinge-naised (BLK) 6 5 1 486 417 +69
2 Kent Bricks (CVC) 6 4 2 478 449 +29
3 Montbenoit Lakers (SAU) 6 2 4 421 449 −28
4 Tim City Heat (DAR) 6 1 5 398 468 −70

Top-seeded Monbenoit fell flat while the second and third seeded teams in the group cruised. Yet another series split between the top two teams here.

Group 4 Pld W L PF PA PD
1 Sparrey Miners (CVC) 6 5 1 515 434 +81
2 Sho Athletic Club (CRM) 6 4 2 482 445 +37
3 Laagri (BLK) 6 2 4 467 522 −55
4 Middleview Fire (SAU) 6 1 5 436 499 −63

Sparrey Miners' 80-67 win over Sho Athletics Club in Matchday 5 sealed the deal as these two teams made it to the playoffs. Yet another Saugeais team fell.

Group 5 Pld W L PF PA PD
1 Wurlington Dynamos (FAL) 6 5 1 502 444 +58
2 Ville-DuPont Racers (SAU) 6 3 3 458 448 +10
3 Metropolis Eagles (VLD) 6 2 4 455 489 −34
4 Gelendzhik Greyhounds (K&P) 6 2 4 449 483 −34

Wurlington dominated, while Vill-DuPont made sure that Saugeais as a nation wasn't shut out of the playoffs.

Group 6 Pld W L PF PA PD
1 Dyurtyuli Internationals (K&P) 6 5 1 460 442 +18
2 CBC Mehnsihn (CRM) 6 4 2 453 437 +16
3 Habneeme (BLK) 6 3 3 450 442 +8
4 Comesby Arches (CVC) 6 0 6 438 480 −42

The Comesby Arches' futility stopped Civil Citizenry from going 4 for 4. Also falling was Habneeme, the top seeded team from Baltskandio, who lost to CVC Mehnsihn of Carmadin 76-83 on the last matchday to lose the spot.

Group 7 Pld W L PF PA PD
1 Carloburgo Knights (VLD) 6 5 1 464 427 +37
2 Orion City Rollers (FAL) 6 4 2 453 438 +15
3 Jyllinge (BLK) 6 3 3 442 451 −9
4 Tintown Typhoon (TAE) 6 0 6 421 464 −43

1 and 2 make it, but Orion City had to hold its breath as Carloburgo defeated Jyllinge before they were in the playoffs.

Group 8 Pld W L PF PA PD
1 Scott City Jets (DAR) 6 5 1 453 413 +40
2 Chinquin Copper Bullets (TAE) 6 4 2 484 418 +66
3 Anging BC (CRM) 6 3 3 441 422 +19
4 Votto Toren Buccaneers (FAL) 6 0 6 364 489 −125

Scott City upset its way from the #3 seed to the top, while top seeded Chinquin squeezed in. Chinquin did hand Scott City its only loss.

Group 9 Pld W L PF PA PD
1 Highway 89 Hornets (TAE) 6 5 1 465 427 +38
2 Pkethat Šede Quasars (K&P) 6 3 3 484 446 +38
3 Eau Claire Wolves (DAR) 6 3 3 429 452 −23
4 Zube Zebras (TKP) 6 1 5 430 483 −53

Taeshan joins Civil Citizenry as nations with three teams in the playoffs. Eau Claire's one-point win over the Zube Zebras, coupled with the Qausars' one-point loss to the Hornets, tied them, but the Quasars swept the H2H series and won the point difference battle.

Group 10 Pld W L PF PA PD
1 Sterling City Tigers (DAR) 6 5 1 522 434 +88
2 Lanceros de Colon (VLD) 6 4 2 467 468 −1
3 CB Seendok (CRM) 6 2 4 434 495 −61
4 Bay City Beasts (TKP) 6 1 5 461 487 −26

Apparently, Valladares's eight-team league is competitive, as three of the nation's four teams made it, joining Civil Citizenry and Taeshan.
