Captain Brendan Lim

TEAM
Position No.	Name Height
S 7 Régis Reveille 186
MB 4 Eles van Kampen 192
O 9 Daniel Campbell 195
RH 12 Iskandar Razak 184
L 8 Brendan Lim 176

BENCH
Position No.	Name Height
L 1 André Lefèvre 178
O 3 Megawati Pocoque 193
OH 5 Tsiyong Teong 177
S 6 Nelson Jordan 189
RH 9 Aaron Softley 182
MB 10 Cédric Boulanger 192

1 André Yves LEFÈVRE [Libero]
178cm | 66kg | 32 years old | Observateur Chargeurs

Lefèvre is the oldest player in the national team, and probably the most experienced too. Lefèvre is known to be very sensitive and agile, and these qualities has made him a favourite among Cironic volleyball fans and clubs in his thirteen year career. However his age has finally been catching up with him recently as he has been suffering with several health issues. Lefèvre is a very serious, down-to-earth man (although known to be a bad drunk), and is renowned throughout Cirona to be a very loyal player, playing for Observateur Chargeurs for his whole life.

2 Iskandar bin Razak [Right Side Hitter]
184cm | 71kg | 26 years old | Dewasa Laju

Iskandar is a hardcore jumper. He is able to jump up to 140 centimetres, and with that jumping height, he can literally do anything. Pass, attack, serve and play defence, he can do those all, but of course his specialisation is to block and spike, in which his height and his jumping height comes to significant play. Not only is Iskandar sporty, he also is quite the intelligent. He recently graduated from university with a degree in sports and health, and is often branded the nerd of the team.

3 Megawati Jean POCOQUE [Opposite]
193cm | 78kg | 29 years old | Mainnes Pointu

Who needs to jump high, when you're born tall? Pocoque is a perfect example. Barely able to jump 85 centimetres, Pocoque has the natural gift of his height, his arm strength and his intelligence. Blocking and spiking are his forte, and that is exactly why he is the opposite hitter. He is able to thrust the ball into the opposite court at 96km/h from crazy angles. No one would like to save that ball. Despite his skills, Pocoque doesn't feel the need to brag. He is quiet, and doesn't talk unless absolutely necessary.

4 Eles VAN KAMPEN [Middle Blocker]
192cm | 82kg | 23 years old | Hastodon Rockets

What do rockets do? They fly up high. So does Van Kampen, being able to jump up to 138cm, just 2cm short of his fellow teammate. However, Van Kampen is probably the team's highest hitter, being able to reach balls from 330cm above ground. No wonder he is the middle blocker. Van Kampen also loves to annoy his opponents by nearly always deflecting the ball straight onto the ground. His crazy reputation is an understatement - Van Kampen is worst than a drunk Lefèvre when he is sober. His hobbies? Imitating their coaches and making everyone laugh - not with him, but at him.

5 TEONG Tsiyong [Outside Hitter]
184cm | 75kg | 25 years old | Cemejuan Villagers

Teong is more of an all-rounder. His high jump height of 127cm gives him amazing blocks and spikes. Teong is also renowned for his exceptional passing skills as well as noticeable his consistent strong attacks and spikes. He is also very smart, often positioning himself as a player that "plays behind the scene", rather than going for every single opportunity. He is a team player, however, not a leader. Teong is rather quiet and reserved, but is known to warm up quickly with friends, such as his teammates. His humour is dry according to his teammates.

6 Nelson Graham JORDAN [Setter]
186cm | 73kg | 27 years old | Noules Speeds

Jordan, despite being 27, is new to volleyball. However, his inexperience doesn't defy his setting skills, which although imperfect, it can scare the bejesus out of anyone. He was an ex-basketball player, until his recent controversial quit. Playing basketball meant that Jordan has strong arms that can set the ball up to five metres. However, his history and newness to the club meant that even though Jordan is thoroughly skilled, he does not enjoy a popular reputation among the nation and his club.

7 Régis Louis REVEILLE [Setter]
184cm | 75kg | 21 years old | Eusiegers

Reveille. Legend. Two words that often go together. Reveille's sets are high, strong and always perfect. Trained from the very young age of four by his father, the volleyball legend Philippe Reveille, Régis Reveille is disciplined and it is no wonder he quickly ascended to the national team at such a young age. Reveille is also a good planner, often advising the team through Lim, the captain. Reveille is extremely good friends with Lim, having been in the same primary school, high school and volleyball team for their whole life. Reveille is witty, but sometimes his intensity and eager for volleyball is overbearing.

8 Brendan LIM [Libero/Captain]
176cm | 62kg | 21 years old | Eusiegers

Brendan Lim, or affectionately known as B-dan, is a midget. But that doesn't stop him from being a sociable, humorous and undeniably charming libero, and a bloody good libero that is. If you thought Lefèvre was agile, you would be surprised by Lim's agility and stealth, and plus, age is not with him. Lim is undeniably good at protecting the back-court area with his speed and "pancake" skills. He is known to be best friends with Reveille, and started volleyball lessons at six with Philippe Reveille after becoming close friends with Reveille Jr in school. Not only is Lim best friends with Reveille, but Lim enjoys thorough popularity throughout his team for being extremely sociable, and his looks and charms make all girls - and guys - fall in love with him. Although he is captain, he often seeks advice from Reveille.

9 Aaron SOFTLEY [Right Side Hitter]
182cm | 73kg | 29 years old | St Paul Saints

Softley is probably the weakest player in the team. However, this doesn't deny his ability to jump up to 120 centimetres which allows him to block and spike the highest of all balls, as well as pass, attack, serve and defend. Even though Softley is forgiven by his teammates to be a weak old player, the Cironic press often brands Softley as the drag of the team, causing Softley to have a inferior complex. Softley is not a confident person and player, but he has potential that when ignited, can't be stopped.

10 Cédric Loïc BOULANGER [Middle Blocker]
192cm | 79kg | 22 years old | Havréal Royals

Boulanger is massive, towering at a height of 192cm. His light weight also gives him the ability to also jump high. This gives him an undisputed advantage to block balls perfectly, hence his position. Unlike his fellow middle blocker Van Kampen, Boulanger has not yet developed his own style of playing, having only played national volleyball for two months. Despite being new to the club, Boulanger enjoys complete popularity among his teammates, and is often seen as the only real competitor to Lim's captainship.

11 Pierre Laurent BARDIER [Outside Hitter]
179cm | 72kg | 25 years old | Noules Executive

Another all-rounder, Bardier is. His ability to jump high consistently gives him his reputation for his exceptional strong attacks and spikes, as well as brilliant passing skills. Although he is in the same position as Teong, Bardier is much more of an opportunist and he takes up any opportunity his able to. However, this does not mean he likes to hog the ball. Bardier is also another team clown, and he is well loved within Cirona. Despite this, Bardier is always finding himself in trouble in scandals.

12 Daniel Hugo CAMPBELL [Opposite]
195cm | 79kg | 21 years old | Eusiegers

Blessed with the position of being the team's tallest player, as well as having a brag-able jumping height of up to 125, Campbell is one of the Volona's star players. Strong arms, perfect technique as well as a cunning mind, Campbell can block balls from anywhere, and can spike balls anywhere, in all sorts of different angles, at a amazing top speed of 110km/h. Campbell, coming from the same team as Reveille and Lim, is well disciplined, and has been playing volleyball with the two since 11. Though not as close as Reveille and Lim are, Campbell and the two are often known as The Threesome, for they can make their own team with their different positions and amazing skills.

Host Announement
Due to an oversight on my part, which was brought up by Carasatoga, the Gandham Islands were incorrectly placed in Group A as an unranked team. However, they are in fact ranked 23rd and as such, should have been placed in Group F.

Here's a summary of what I did to fix this problem:
Gandham Islands was moved to Group F
Cassadaigua was moved to Group E
Thatius was moved to Group D
Lucantis was chosen at random to replace Gandham Islands in Group A from Group D

Luckily this was brought to my attention before play began, thanks Carasatoga. If anyone has a problem with this, please contact me through TG.

(OOC: My criticism below is IC only!!!)

Jillian’s Space

So, they’re screwing us over already here in Darmen. Are they really that bitter about not qualifying out of Group 17 in the World Cup? Or that we tied them late in the game in Darmen that saw their potential great 1-0 victory over us end in a 1-1 draw? I really don’t know, but what I can tell you is that coach O’Rourke was pretty upset when they informed us that they were changing our group. Wasn’t that nice? After all, she only went over scouting tape for hours and hours on end of the opponents that we thought we were going to play, only to be told that all that was a waste of her time because we were being moved to Group E. This also meant that we had to cancel our hotel reservations in Brady City, and we are sent to Scott City instead. Finding a hotel at the last minute in Scott City was not very easy, especially when we had to deal with a couple of bitter Hotel Group Sales managers that were holding a grudge over the soccer results. Well, finally we were able to find a place to stay. Now I also feel for all our fans out there who bought tickets in Brady City, and their own hotel reservations and had to change everything up as well. All this because of some country called the Gandham Islands. I never heard of it either.

Well, after all that we can finally focus on volleyball and hoping to show the world that we can play this game quite well. Last time out, we didn’t do much, but it was hard. Hopefully though we were at least able to show the world that we can play this great game and maybe one day take a championship. As I look at the nations in which we will be playing, I see Sportgirls there as the most familiar nation, but we expect to come away with a win. Other then them, our opponents are Cyborg Holland and Patricant. We play each team twice. We’re ready to go: because we already have a chip on our shoulder over this whole group swap thing. So while you watch the World Cup (or if you’re in Darmen that’s the Loser’s Cup Cup of Harmony), and get ready for the World Bowl, how about throwing out some support for us as well? Pretty please?!

Manu Tenerian Volleyball Squad Announced

The Manu Tenerian Dodgeball Commission (MTDBC) have today announced their squad to take part in the Volleyball World Expo. They have a very limited domestic setup - just four teams compete in the Super League, and many of the squad are more used to playing out on the beach than in an arena. It is their first foray into a global event, and they hope that their motley crew will be able to compete well on the global stage. MTDBC appointed coach Kayne Cliffe hand-picked the squad, which is as follows:

Kayne Cliffe (6'4", 43 years old)(Image)
Kayne Cliffe enjoyed a successful career playing exhibition matches, and later in his career moved on to the professional game. He went on to coach the Capital Crusaders, the most successful of the four Super League Teams.
L - Janet Karafa (6'3", 26 years old) (Image)
Has been central to the success of the Capital Crusaders for eight years, and is widely considered the most influential Super League player.

L - Sabina Henley (6'5", 19 years old) (Image)
Teenage sensation Sabina Henley has taken the National Nomads to their first league victory in five years this season almost single-handedly.

S - Carol Hennessy (6'4", 25 years old) (Image)
Hennesy has been leading the offence of the Capital Crusaders, and was voted Manu Tenere's Most Inspirational Sports Personality 2011.

LH - Patrice Yardy (5'10", 29 years) (Image)
Patrice Yardy is approaching the twighlight of her career, but remains as vital as ever for the Valley Vipers. She is a magnet for controversy.

MH - Kelly Kaeding (6'0", 24 years old) (Image)
"Double K" has graced almost as many magazine covers as volleyball courts, but she is also pivotal for the Coastal Clippers in the Super League.

RH - Pippa Iverson (6'2, 26 years old) (Image)
The VWE will be the last hoorah for Capital Crusaders stalwart Pippa Iverson, who is retiring to raise a family in the countryside.
L - Maggie Polsavic (6'4", 23 years old, Capital Crusaders)
S - Tahlia Setter (5'11", 25 years old, Valley Vipers)
LH - Jenny Worcester (6'1", 21 years old, Coastal Clippers)
MH - Harriet de Boassen (6'0", 20 years old, Coastal Clippers)
MH - Shauna Henley (6'3", 22 years old, National Nomads)
RH - Zara Saif (5'7", 27 years old, Playing Overseas)

They say the most important part of a team is strength in depth, and Manu Tenere have about as much of it as you'd expect from such a smal country - Shauna Henley is not quite as good as her sister, but is definitely a top class middle hitter; Zara Saif has been excelling in here globetrotting career and Maggie Polsavic is an able backup to her two illustrious Libero colleagues.

Notes
As some nations could tell you, 95X is a strange nation; here's some notes and insight.

Coaching Notes
This is Nott's first VWE on the bench after playing for 95X in the 1st and 2nd installments. She's teamed up with Michael Hogan, considered one of the best defense-minded coaches in 95X and also brings a background in psychology to the coaches' seats. This is their first time working together at any level.

Starting Player Notes
Jennifer Riverdell is the oldest player on the team and, after 15 seasons in 95X's National Volleyball League (NVL), is beginning to show her age. However, she continues to play at an ultra-competitive level, has taken good care of her body over the years, and there's no benching arguably the best player in NVL history. She is the team captain and very adamant that if the team plays well, 95X will win its third championship.

Samantha/Ashley Boise is one player for all-intensive purposes, as they are twins joined at the front. This is her first time in the starting lineup after greatly improved play in recent NVL seasons.

Cyanna Kanan is a newcomer to the national team, and has the most common female name for members of a generation of 95Xers with bright cyan skin. Since she was personally discovered, she's overcome initial criticism that she's tall and odd-colored.

The three other starters (Oneseventeen, Twotwentyfour, and Stafford), other notable NVL all-stars, are overall all-around excellent players.

Bench Player Notes
The only bench player of note to RPers is April Hillon, who (as noted in previous competitions) has one arm and one leg. Yes, she's great enough to play professional volleyball; when asked if her condition affects her play she responds, "does your question have a point?"

The Foureightythird twins are newcomers to the 95X National Team who learned volleyball as young kids and continued to learn and grow in the sport together. They now play on the same side of the net after drafted by different NVL teams. Shannon Nott has noted she's impressed by both and could use either "interchangeably" or at the same time if needed. If they're part of a match-point-winning play, however, don't expect a lengthy post-game interview—they're mute.

Lake, Milazzo, and Woodvillage also return to the 95X bench.

Volonas kicking arse

I am SOO ready to play volleyball, Brendan!

Now, I never blog about sports. Like never. There's like a trillion blogs out there about sports.

But today, OMG. I watched the Cirona vs Erdunyardia game in the international volleyball tournament everyone here has been making a racket about. First of all, I must say I am so impressed with our volleyball team. I never knew our team could even make it to the tournament. Then again, I don't follow volleyball or sports, which practically makes me a outcast in this country. Second of all, our captain Brendan Lim is SOOOO HOT! *faints*

Anyway, to be serious, the Cirona men's national volleyball team, or apparently affectionately referred to as the Volonas, kicked some serious arse today at the Tim City Sports Arena. I watched the whole game, and it was sooooooo cool. At the end of the game, we beat Erdunyardia by like 30 freaking points. 30!!! But it was only the group rounds. =="

The game like started off with Cirona rocketing like crazy. Even though I don't follow volleyball, I obviously know how to play it and how it works. I mean, if you don't you'd practically be murdered in Cirona. Anyway, although my eyes were consistently fixed on Lim (OMG SO HOT <3), I must say that Daniel Campbell (another hottie!) is one crazy-arse spiker. It was crazy seeing him consistently blocking and blocking, and then after Régis Reveille sets (OMG another hottie), he jumps like a bazillion metres high and spikes it right down to the opposite court. The first round ended pretty quickly and uneventfully, with Cirona completely annihilating Erdunyardia 25 to 12.

The second round was a little more eventful, but it in a bad way. When Campbell went for his ultimate spike against Erdunyardia, he got a cramp and after jumping like 120cm of the ground, he fell immediately without even touching the ball. Needless to say, he was put off court for the rest of the game. Poor baby. :( Fugly Pocoque was then put into play, but even though he couldn't jump high, he was good enough. The round ended once again with Cirona winning 25 to 16. Pretty impressive, huh?

The third round, the deciding round for Cirona. The Volonas looked tired already, with Erdunyardia suddenly starting to wake up. Still, we managed to win by 8 points, so we won this first matchday, yay!

Now Cirona's top of the list for the group after winning three points, tied with Delaclava, whilst we pushed Erdunyardia to the bottom of the group ladder. Tomorrow's going to be Cirona vs Delaclava, going to be so tight! I want to watch it so badly, but we have school tomorrow. :( Volleyball is so fun for me all of a sudden.

Havana Tribute
First Debut is a Good One, Western Cuba wins

Western Cuba 25 25 19 25
Thatius 17 21 25 21

Tim City, Darmen--- To tell you the truth I don't know much about volleyball, but what I saw today was pretty satisfactory. Western Cuba played well throughout the game beating #31 ranked three points to Thatius's one. The little ones on the team, well actually their still giants compared to us measuring at 6' 4'' and 6' 3'' Pura Salazar, and Emily Rodriquez starred on the Western Cuba side scoring the most for the Western Cuban side and playing good defense as well.

" The team played well today, Emily Rodriquez and Pura Salazar played very well today. The whole team did. We showed the world who we were today, and that were a force to be reckoned with. I think that 95x, West Guiana, and Thatius need to take that in mind next time we play all of them. ", comments Jorge Morales manger of the National team after the game.

Match Day Two is tomorrow. Western Cuba faces off against West Guiana the other team in Group D making a debut in this World Volleyball Expo at Tim City Sports Arena. West Guiana played 95x who is ranked #4 in the world. They fought hard but were out beaten by their opponents. Except Western Cuba to be in a tough fight tomorrow.

Final Notes: Western Cuba played in a friendly vs host Darmen yesterday. In the first set Western Cuba fought hard battling to a 25-23 finish, but couldn't outplay Darmen who easily beat Western Cuba 25-13, and 25-17 to win the game. Western Cuba has a post-group stage friendly v.s. Carasatoga who is the #1 in the world at the moment.
Now known as the Technological State of Adros, the successor state of Western Cuba

OH: Pyotr van Hoorn
MB: Cameron Salzburg (played in VWE II,III)

RSH: Tom Cooper (played in VWE II,III)

Double Injury Disaster Hampers Dragons

Cyborg Holland's VWE campaign started off disastrously, when Left Side-Hitter, Tom Cooper, and the Captain, Cameron Salzburg clashed heads in the first set, leaving both players off for the next two sets. The first set was played with 4 players, barely legal by World Rules, but they went down 25-18 to unraked Patricant. The second set, with the two players off, was by the same score, 25-18. Tom Cooper came back on in the third set, and his impact was immediate. He smashed 18 points for the Dragons, as they took it back to 2-1, winning the third set 25-19. A massive boost to the team, but Tom Coper had to leave again, after he threw up during the 3rd Set break, leaving them back to four players. But the Dragons played valiantly, but they went down 27-25 in the final set

Manager Eve Keitzer said after the game "We were devastated by the loss of Cameron and Tom, but they'll be back with a-blast for our next game, and we're going to win"

Patricant are a new, unranked side, and this will be classed as one of the worlds biggest Volleyball Giant Killings. But the Dragons will bounce back. Double

Manu Tenere Lose Tight Contest
"CLOSER THAN SCORELINE SUGGESTS" - CLIFFE

Manu Tenere lose a vital point.

Manu Tenere's volleyball players lost a nip and tuck game against Pernham today by three games to one. Coach Kayne Cliffe hopes that the positives shown can be carried over into tomorrow's game. "It was a lot closer than the scoreline suggests," he told reporters, "and we didn't lost a game by more than three points." We will see tomorrow if the Tenerians can improve enough to stay in contention.

Jillian's Space

The opening game of competition was not going to be easy for us, with the group switch and all, but we didn't want to use that as an excuse. Sportgirls, after all, also had to prepare on the fly for the game, not expecting us to be the opposition. We had a good night sleep and were just preparing to play the game of volleyball in which we have playing since we were little girls; boarding the bus and getting ready to go. There we were, ready to head out to SCU Arena, but there was a problem: we had no bus driver. It took a little while for us to finally get through to her room, and she was very apologetic when she ended up making it out to the bus. Evidently, she did not set her watch for Darmen time, and overslept. Since we didn't lose too much time, we didn't think it would be that big of a deal, so it was off to the arena, after all. Our driver though, soon went from an apologetic mode, to bitch mode as she dealt with very discourteous Darmen traffic. We could see from out the windows how crazy things were, but thankfully we made it to the game in one piece.

Finally, when we got to the Scott City University campus, and to the arena, we were ready to play. I don't think we were distracted, but we just were not sharp in the early moments of the game with Sportgirls, both physically and mentally. The mental aspect was obvious to all in attendance when Courtney Buchanan began shouting at Amanda Girvin. Amanda had been arguing with the official over an "in" call, which Amanda though was out. Courtney boldly went over and instead of arguing with the referee, told Amanda that the ref made the correct call and to get her head in the game. Amanda took exception to this, and it made us sluggish in the first set. We were leading 9-6 at the time, but Sportgirls took advantage and scored 11 unanswered to take a big lead on us. Although we tried to recover, it was too big of a hole. This carried into the second set, where we fell behind 13-2 early and were never into it. At that point, Amanda Girvin was pulled and did not play again for the game, with Nicole Bradley taking the spot. That was a momentum swing as we took the 3rd and 4th sets, and had a good duel with Sportgirls in the 5th, but unfortunately we could not come out of top. So we will hope to learn from our mistakes from this one, and focus on the positives. We did some things well, and we will just need to build on them.
