Roster:
Line 1 (Torpedo):
LW Pashka Bren
C Sergei Sergeev
RW Lev Koper
D Dmitri Turchinsky
D Oleg Harding
Style of play: power forwards!
Line 2 (Rockets):
LW Frolik Aleksandrov
C Dat Pashkov
RW Afi Maksimov
D Mark Andreev
D Mark Danilov
Style of play: passing, passing, passing, GOAL!
Line 3 (Tigers):
LW Sam Ivanov
C Phil Tigrov
RW Slavik Milikov
D Ivan Markeev
D Artem Ushatik
Style of play: Start out in own zone, lure the opponent in, and counterattack!
Line 4 (Waves):
LW Cake Adamov
C Gordo Bomb
RW Charlie Shen
D Rob Smit
D Rob Kashpirski
Style of Play: tough on defense, hitting for turnovers, trying to intercept the puck, stretch passes
Goaltenders:
Victor Stolichnuy - had a 96% overall saving percentage, faced a lot of shots. Team lost in the semis, as they couldn't score
Basil Catnip - despite the humorous surname, Basil's team, the Rockets, took second place, in a large part due to Basil's 92% overall saving percentage. If Basil could play with stability, he would rival Stolichnuy, as his talent surpasses Victor's, but he's still young.
Erema Aleksandrov - Taken as a sub-goaltender, because his team, the Torpedo, won Gold. His 90% average saving percentage is not the best, and considering his defensive support, it should be better.
Head Coach: Steve Uriev
Manager/CEO: Ivan Moneybags
Domestic Clubs: Torpedo, Rockets, Tigers and Waves (Yes, there were a lot of jokes in Shofercia when Torpedo defeated Rockets in the finals.)
The Hockey Journal
Team Shofercia is back! In the Summer and Winter Olympics, The Eagles won seventh place overall, but first amongst newcomers. Team Shofercia won the NS Winter-X Games, and recently won the First World Games. Team Shofercia took eight place in the Winter Paralympics, but got Second Place in Biathlon. Only in hockey did Team Shofercia bring embarrassment after embarrassment, after embarrassment. Clearly the Eagles need more practice, so they came to Soviet Canuckistan to get it.
Erema Aleksandrov impressed everyone with his play today, which enabled Team Shofercia to draw against the Hosts in the Beaver Division, making amazing saves. But now the team must step it up, as the Eagles need to win the two upcoming games. Head Coach Uriev was pleased with the game today, and we caught up with him for an interview:
THJ: What are you chances of winning?
Uriev: I don't know. We're unpredictable. Sometimes we have great games, like tonight, and sometimes we don't. We need to be more functional, but there's also a lot of pressure, because we're Shofercians, and everyone expects us to win.
THJ: Would it be easier if some of the pressure was removed?
Uriev: Definitely. But we both know that won't happen.
THJ: What worked tonight, and what didn't?
Uriev: The hosts played extremely well. We held our own. They had more chances than we did, but we had fluid transitions, decent lane changes, and sometimes the damn puck just wouldn't go in! Three times we hit the post!
THJ: What about the refereeing?
Uriev: It was fair. I mean I'll never admit that during a hockey game, and neither would the other sides' coach, but after the game - if it's fair, it's fair.
THJ: Did you agree with Aleksandrov being named the player of the game?
Uriev: Absolutely. He was on top of his best game, and he earned it!
THJ: Any plans for the future?
Uriev: Now that the hosts are behind us, time to win!
THJ: Thank you for your time, and Good Luck!
Uriev: Thank you for the interview.
