The smoke billowed from around the weathered face of the aging man as he exhaled the thick cigar smoke. Standing with one foot on the small pitlane wall, he was well dressed in black dress trousers with shining black leather shoes. His white shirt had obviously been ironed with attention to detail, and its crisp form sat neatly tucked into his trousers. The smart looking shirt was completely white save a logo emblazoned on the left breast, which read 'APEX Tyres'. Underneath an elegantly embroidered name indicated the owner of the shirt, and most likely its current occupant, André Zocchetto.

André looked up at the bright blue sky as the sound of two vehicles being pushed to the limit echoed around the main testing track in Brienne, Southern Cynocephali. Turning his head to watch one of the test vehicles roar down the short straight, André listened to the engine screaming as the driver pushed the car down the track. The car passed André and he turned to follow it, taking another drag of his cigar as he did so. Watching the brake lights come on and the car disappear around the corner, André thought it was about time to examine the latest telemetry from the two vehicles that were now well into their second hour around the track.

Flicking the stub of his cigar away nonchalantly as he strolled towards the garage, André never noticed that it was quickly extinguished by a head-shaking mechanic before something caught fire. Licking his lips, he savoured the sweet taste of the Namtokkan cigar before walking towards the lead engineer. The engineer was deep in discussion with some of the other staff on hand for the testing, but André did not mind. Heading straight for the data, he began to examine the basic trends so far. Pulling out a piece of paper from his trouser pocket, he compared some notes he made earlier to the data coming off the test track. Pausing to consider the information, he felt the friendly hand of the engineer on his back.

"Can I help you André?" inquired the lead engineer.

André waved the engineer away, trying not to lose his train of thought. André began scribbling down notes on his paper, before he looked up at the engineer who was trying to see what he was writing.

André finally responded, "So, we should see increased left tyre wear at the opening race?"

"That is correct. 60% of the turns at Davenport International Circuit are right handers, which should see an increase in the left side tyre wear, especially at the front. Turn one will be a tyre killer, and we should advise the teams to try and not go in too hard under brakes at turn one; our testing here has shown that any small increases in lap times early on will be negated by driving on worn tyres which could be up to 1s a lap slower towards the end of the endurance race." replied the engineer, speaking in a rather monotonous voice that André found hard to follow. "See if you look at this data here.." continued the engineer as he moved across to the closest computer screen.

André sighed as he headed over to the screen, his thoughts quickly drifting from the drone coming from the seemingly robotic engineer. André began to think about the coming season, and could not wait for race day. He was thrilled when he was told he would be appointed as the Constructor Liason Officer for NSCS Season 4; having worked for the company for thirty five years, and briefly raced for the company in the eighties, he was the most qualified person however that did not diminish his excitement at the posting. Thinking of his days at the track in his youth, André's thoughts began to wander, as the aging man yearned for the sound, sight and smells of racing.

Moiano, Monteluci test track, Arvaglio, Van Luxemburg

The two Monteluci Duca’s shot by the finish line, one of them clearly leading over the other. As they disappeared into the distance over the massive straight, and the sound slowly vanished with them, Alfredo Monteluci was finally able to speak, a thing which he could not do with the cars nearby, due to the amount of noise they produced.

“I can see that the Mark 3 clearly leads the Mark 2, but both of us know that this test isn’t scientific.” He replied to his lead technician, standing next to him. As the lead technician finished entering the last of the data in his laptop, he looked up to respond.

‘it isn’t, it’s more of a demonstration of the performance of the Mark 3 compared to the Mark 2. We have made several modifications to the biturbo system that have made it faster. Upping the turbo pressure was of course an obvious solution, and we have made several modifications to the engine management’ He explained.

‘Yes, I noticed you retained the biturbo system, opposed to the proposed quadturbo system. What’s the exact reasoning behind that?’ Alfredo replied, pointing out the most, or perhaps least, obvious change in the design of the Duca.

‘Yes, that is correct. There is an issue with a quadturbo system, namely friction. The V8 simply wouldn’t create enough exhaust gas to drive four turbo’s at optimal speeds, hence it is better for us to use the old biturbo setup. It may not perform as good as we wanted to, but the recent improvements at least made it a viable competitor to the other cars, most notably Forza’s R12.’

At that point, another Monteluci racing project tore past, again making conversation impossible. A lowered Bucintoro coupe with a large rear spoiler passed the finish line, flames shooting from the side exhausts as it changed gear and some unignited fuel burned in the exhaust. Alfredo observed the scene, somewhat surprised by the sudden appearance of the race car.

‘I should probably explicate that this is a new development by SFS Corse. You authorized the development of a Bucintoro SFS Corse version, and this is what we have so far. It uses an engine that is very similar to the Duca’s that you saw pass by, but so far we think that the Bucintoro has a lot more possibilities and is more promising as an NSCS racer, purely because the Duca was essentially uprated to meet the requirements and therefore is at the edge of its capabilities. The Bucintoro belongs in the GT1 class, really, and is therefore more suited to racing. ‘

‘Then why didn’t you launch it now? It looks pretty much finished.’

‘Sadly, it isn’t. Well, it is, in a way, but it is still a very rough car that needs to be polished more before we can actually run it in racing. It’s better to use a mildly improved version of the Duca this season and constantly refine the Bucintoro until we can actually use it in competition without suddenly suffering from reliability problems. On top of that, we can actually enter it in several races to try it out without risking serious problems during the NSCS season.’

‘Alright, I’ll take your word for it then. How long will it be before our drivers can have a go in it?’ Alfredo asked, staring towards the entrance as a road car prototype entered the track.

‘We’re working hard to have a somewhat polished version back here by the time NSCS will head for Van Luxemburg. That way Paolo and Michiel will be able to try it without messing with their schedule.’ The technician answered, while checking his agenda. Meanwhile, Alfredo was busy entering the notes and dates into his Walter smartphone, in order to be able to remind himself of the date.

‘I’ll take your word for that. Update me when there’s a change in schedule, I’ll need to attend a meeting with the marketing team now. If you’d excuse me..’ Alfredo said, as he walked away, already preparing for the next meeting and on the phone with his colleagues and coworkers.

Mid September 2011
Forza Centre, Fremantle, United Coronado

It had been the end of Forza's statistically worst season in NSCS and had been the first time the Coronadan team had returned home empty handed after doing the double in the first season and clinching back to back driver's titles in the second season. Yet again, young Steve Lowndes found himself inches from the top spot at the end of the last race after coming in to the final weekend as the heavy favourite to take the crown. And yet again, Forza found itself troubled by inconsistencies and a collapse under pressure to watch the team's championship slip through their fingers.

Seated around the large wooden table in the boardroom of Forza Motorsport's Development Centre, deep in the heart of the seemingly endless labrinth of spotless service corridors, gleaming white workshops and ultra-modern laboritories, sat the cream of Forza's Motorsport division as well as certain members of the Forza heirachy. Some shocked at the thought of losing their second straight constructors after being favourites for much of the season, others dismayed at another year of seeming failure. Naturally, it wasn't long before the discussion turned towards the car.

Look, what is the prospect of a turbocharged engine? Forza's entire passenger vehicle line up relies on small-displacement and force-fed engines so why does our car have to remain in the 20th century.

The R12 won't be powered by anything other than a six litre twelve for the forseeable future. Not only is this about tradition, our car isn't beaten in a straight line so I see no need to alter our formula.

Well it was beaten in a straight line if you remember back to round 7...

Gentlemen please, the main issue we had with the R12 prior to season 3 was the reliability of the engine. Now we didn't have anywhere near as much trouble last season as we did in ones gone by and we still managed to produce a race winning car. The drivetrain of the R12 isn't an issue.

I agree, the biggest challenge of us at the moment is redesigning the car to suit the new Apex Juxx tyres. After twenty years of running Bridgestones, this will be harder than you think. Don't forget we have the MY11-C Aerodynamics pack to configure and install as well.

Enough about the car, what about the drivers? Surely they are to blame for some of the performances we had this year?

Dom Maran shuffled his papers and spoke for the first time, only to be interjected by one particularly angry race engineer.

The biggest improvement we are going to get is the removal of John Newman. During series 3 he was a cowboy; he'd either win the race or ruin his race trying. Pushing him has been the right decision

Bullshit! You made the decision to replace Newman with Judd before Series 3 had even started!

And evidently it was the right decision wasn't it.

Was it? Wake up to yourself Dom, John knew he was losing his seat. This season was about him trying to win and having nothing to do helping Forza win the constructor's. He owed this team nothing after you stabbed him in the back by ditching our star for some rookie who has never driven a GT1 class before!

Jeffrey Stillen was the highest ranking member in the room; when he stood up, nobody spoke.

The decision to let John go was regrettable, however it was necessary. John is well past his prime and he intended to retire at the end of this season anyway. Unfortunately, talent like young Judd doesn't come around every day and we needed to snare him before he went to another seat.

This is a load of shit. I bloody hope Lowndes wins because Judd is nothing on John Newman.

And with that, the engineer stood up and stormed out.

NSCS 3 Forza Technical Brief

By Jeffery Stillen
Director; Forza Dealership Team

Forza Racing Team is both excited and honoured to again participate as a factory team within the NationStates Sports Car Series, regarded by many as the pinnacle league of sports car racing and one of the most widely televised sporting leagues around the globe.

After impressive results in both Series 1, 2 and 3 of the NSCS, Forza has increased it's spending and it's devotion to the NSCS for the fourth series to an all time high, with more money and more resources being devoted to the development, production and mantinence of the racing team and it's equipment.

Forza sees racing not as a sport, but as a way to test and develop new technologies which will inevitably adorn the race cars of tomorrow. Technologies which don't just improve performance, but safety and fuel economy. Both literally and metaphorically, Forza is indeed racing for a better place.

Steve Lowndes will finally take over the reigns as Forza's number one driver for this season. After impressive results in all three previous seasons, the 24 year old star has shown that he knows how to handle his car with care and his ever-growing maturity and composure on the race circuit continues to impose Lowndes as a future champion.

Joining Lowndes is 19 year old Chris Judd, a driver with considerable talent who was recruited by Forza at age 16 after a string of karting victories. Judd has never driven a GT1 class car before, however early trials in the R12 has shown promise of this very young driver.

Primary Sponsor

Forza Automotive Company recently secured a multi-million dollar deal with Apex tyres which will make Apex the sole tyre supplier of the entire Forza range of passenger vehicles, a contract which is said to be worth hundreds of millions of dollars per year for both parties. As part of this new contract, Forza Racing Team has also secured Apex as it's primary sponsor for the fourth series of the NSCS.

Automotive component manufacturer Campagnolo has also renewed it's sponsorship of the team and will continue to provide core components for the racing team, such as gearboxes, brake pads and linings and other essential items. Campagnolo's decades of experience with racing makes them a welcome addition to the team.

Sunred remains it's 40% stake in the firm and continues to help the team develop it's drivers and cars.

Technical Brief

Despite the MY11 R12 GT1 finishing the NSCS in second last season, Forza technicians still weren't quite happy with the overall performance of the car and in particular the car's persistently poor reliability. . In the short off-season, technicians and engineers went back to the drawing board to address the problems with the car's reliability while still mainting the car's core strengths such as it's geniously designed aero package which was no doubt responsible for the fantastic performance of the car.

The MY11-2 R12 differs only slightly from the MY11 GT1 which was considered by Forza engineers to be a perfect car when it was conceived. Chassis, exterior and gearbox remain relatively unchanged from the MY11 car.

The new MY11 R12 uses a special designed diffuser at the rear above the exhaust to channel the airflow under the car and keep the car more stuck to the tarmac. When a diffuser is used, the air flows into the underbody from the front and sides of the car, accelerates and reduces pressure. There is a suction peak at the transition of the flat bottom and diffuser. The diffuser then eases this high velocity air back to normal velocity and also helps fill in the area behind the car making the whole underbody a more efficient downforce producing device by reducing drag on the car and increasing downforce.

Image

At the front of the car, a front spiltter is mounted to hold the front of the car to the track. The splitter works by causing the airstream to be brought to stagnation above the splitter by using an air dam, causing an area of high pressure. Below the splitter, the air is redirected away from the stagnation zone and is accelerated, causing the pressure to drop. This, combined with the high pressure over the splitter creates downforce. The splitter at the front can be reset by the driver on long straights so that the splitter isn't providing downforce, thus reducing the overall drag on the car and permitting higher speeds. This new splitter is of a far different design from the one that was seen on the MY10 car. After the incident with the #2 chassis on the last race of the first series, the splitter was given a much more durable build to better widthstand the forces acting on it when the car is travelling at high speed. The honeycomb build means the splitter is far more structurally sound, but deflects less by 2mm at 200km/h and is also 500 grams heavier.

Image

The GT rear wing sits a full 1.5 metres above the ground and can produce up to 1,550 kg of downforce when the car is travelling at 300km/h. The GT wing works in tandem with the rear lip spoiler to create enough downforce to prevent the rear wheels of the car skidding loose from the immense power produced from the engine. This rear lip can be stalled mid race by the driver, preventing the wing from creating downforce and subsequent drag. This allows for an extra 8km/h on an average 1000m straight from a starting speed of 120km/h, something that doesn't seem like much but every little bit counts during a race. Crucially, this allows the car to be running a high-downforce set up and a low downforce set up on the same race track, giving the car a much better all round capability. The rear lip is stalled by redirecting airflow through the two small scoops above the rear wheels, and then redirecting it under the lip to create a suction, thus stalling the spoiler.
The rear wing itself can also be adjusted to produce minimum drag on long straight on the track. When the driver cuts downforce to the rear spoiler, the top half rear wing also changes camber to lie flat on the lower half, minimizing drag and providing the same advantages as the F-Ducted rear spoiler.

Image

Possibly the best aerodynamic innovation for the MY11 car is the new blown diffuser mounted on the extreme rear of the car. A blown diffuser is a mechanism based around using the exhaust gases to interact with the diffuser, which sits at the back of the car at the end of the floor. This moves the wake or turbulence created by the rear wheels outwards where it won't disturn the diffuser and re-energise the air flowing over the diffuser to create move downforce. Blown diffusers aren't new technology, but they will be appearing for the first time on the R12 GT1

Image

One of the major similarities between the R12 and the R12 GT1 is the engine. The 6.0 Litre V12 engine that is found in the regular R12 also makes its way into the GT1, relatively unfettled. The V12 is constructed out of an all-aluminium block to give it exceptionally light weight yet offer a withstanding of the intense forces of heat and energy that would be produced inside each of the cylinder blocks when this engine was running, let alone at maximum RPM's for extended durations. Carburettors were considered, then discarded in favour of direct injection technology. The V12 uses double overhead cams to lift a total of 72 valves, or six valves (three entry, three exit) valves per cylinder. This design minimizes the upwards pressure of the cylinder on the exhaust stroke, yet maximizes the downwards pressure of the fuel and air mixture on the induction stroke. The entire engine is dry-sumped and water cooled to maintain its performance edge over long distances. The use of a dry-sump over a wet sump is due to the lower centre of gravity a dry (or seperately located) sump will provide and an increase in oil capacity. Water cooling was favoured over air cooling due to the concerns the mid-mounted engine may be starved of oxygen if air cooling was used, not to mention the more effective coolant system.

Due to the engine's poor reliability in season one, Forza technicians took a step back from the pursuit of performance in order to better preserve the drivetrain components of the car. Crucially was that the compression ratio of 12:1 proved to be too high for standard designed cylinders and pistons so the technicians examined other areas of improvement.

The pistons have been redesigned substantially from the MY11 series and differ greatly in appearance. The signature feature of the piston is the large cavity in the centre of the piston which reduces the effect of 'knocking' when the compression ratio is too high. Improved fuel injection stemming from the uprated ECU and a 4-2-1 exhaust system reduces the internal stresses on the cylinder block and greatly improves the reliability of the engine. As a result, engineers saw no need to lower the compression ratio any further.

The high compression ratio high redline of 8000rpm, allows the engine to utilize power from a very wide rev band, not unlike a Formula 1 car. Variable Valve timing constantly alters the intake and exhaust valves to ensure pressure is kept to a maximum to sustain high engine power. Power output is as a result, staggering. 456kw is produced at 7550rpm and is sustained until the 8500rpm limit and cut-out. Torque output reflects the large displacement naturally aspirated engine perfectly, with a stunning 720nm on tap from 5750rpm, yet 620nm of torque is delivered from as little as 2700rpm. This means the V12 has a very wide power band, allowing the driver to have complete control over the momentum of the vehicle and be assured that sufficient power is always available no matter which gear or what engine speed the car is running at.

This enourmous output is channeled by a Formula 1 inspired gearbox, manufactured by reknown race builder Campagnolo. The SS-6 is a double clutch sequential gearbox, with gears 1,3,5 mounted on one shaft, with 2,4,6 mounted on a seperate shaft. This means that when a driver swaps a gear, the next gear is already lined up and ready to engage, cutting shift times by a significant amount over single clutch or torque converter gear box and delivers a much smoother shift action than a regular clutched gearbox. The SS-6 weighs in at just 95kg, making it the perfect choice for a car of this stature.

All this power is stopped by four huge Carbon Ceramic brake discs which are nearly 40 cm in diameter at the front and 35 cm in diameter at the rear. The grooved and ventilated brake discs are clamped by a single Campagnolo six piston caliper, which is hydraulically operated with electronic assist. Carbon Ceramic discs experience much less fade than regular discs, weigh much less, and are far less likely to fail in a race An Electronic Brake Balance distributor is mounted to the dashboard to the driver can choose whether the brake force distribution is balanced between front and rear or slightly offset

Safety is no laughing matter and Forza always takes driver safety as a paramount issue. A 3-Point harness is fitted to the Racing Bucket manufactured by Sparco, a full FIA approved roll cage is fitted to the interior of the car and a fire-extinguishing system is also fitted to prevent an explosion if the worst comes to the worst. The heavily re-inforced cabin and the lightly re-inforced front and rear mean the driver is much less likely to be injured as the average force acting upon him in a crash will be greatly reduced as the front or rear accepts most of the impact.

Wheels are manufactured by ENKEI and are 19 inches tall, 275mm wide. The five spoke ENKEI's are designed to suck air through the rotating wheel to cool the brake disc and then channel the air underneath the car to very slightly increase downforce in a sucking effect. Tyres fitted are Apex Jux 275/25 R19. Tyres of full-wet weather, slick and intermediate are available to the Forza team in both hard and soft compounds.

NS Sports Car Series 4 Pre-Season Report
ztkyhodori.co.hd/eng/bn/nscs4/0001
Translated from Hodoran to English

With Round 1 of the fourth NationStates Sports Car Series approaching, Hodoran drivers Sayono Kayani (#7) and Sakiteno Zareni (#8) are preparing for the season start at Havl's Davenport International Circuit. After a disappointing previous season finish of ninth and eighth, respectively, in the Drivers Championship and fourth in the Teams Championship, both Tarogama MotorSports drivers seek to finally achieve the team's objectives, with both drivers within the top five in the drivers standings and Tarogama MotorSports within the top three in the team standings.

The new season brings a new event; endurance races. Round 1 at Davenport will be the first endurance event, with the second possibly being Round 3 at Medion, Round 5 in Van Luxemburg, Round 6 in Whittoria, Round 7 in Aquilinia, or Round 9 at the Tarogama Circuit in Hodori.

The top five teams from the previous season, and Aquilinia Imperial Racing, return for NSCS4. Fyreballz Racing retains Nee Wan (#1) and Lou Kollis (#2). Forza Racing's Steve Lowndes (#3) returns, with rookie Chris Judd (#4) replacing John Newman. Mikaela Treabian (#5) of Merconti Racing also returns, with Adjont Belkratta replaced by Jacob Mischen (#6). Sayono Kayani (#7) and Sakiteno Zareni (#8) return to drive for Tarogama MotorSports, and Paolo Monteluci (#9) and Michiel van Eekeren (#10) return with Monteluci SFS Corse. Aquilinia Imperial Racing, formerly Team Aquilyne AMR, returns with Sarah Millner (#TBD) and rookie Katharina Müller (#TBD), returning for her first full season.

Perrigio Racing, from Italian Maifias, is the first new team with Candido Arcuri and Bernardo Siciliano. Andossa Se Mitrin Vega's Yumbo Jumbo Racing enters with rookie drivers Baundes Hyo'Ingorii and Jiame Yutu'usi. Whittoria Engineering begins their first NSCS season with rookies Chet Philip and Rick Lattimore. The fourth new team, Lubeia's Møller Racing, will enter rookies Ezio Trieste and Tom Danish.

Returning for this season's calendar are Davenport International Circuit (Round 1), the recently redesigned Glass Onion (Round 2), Medion International Raceway (Round 3), Circuito di Villa Cipresso (Round 5), the Neustadtring (Round 7), Broxhead Circuit (Round 8), and the Tarogama Circuit (Round 9). The Imolaring in Whittoria and Ewer Daxastrii Da'ar in Andossa Se Mitrin Vega are new to the calendar, taking slots six and ten respectively. At this time, Round 4 has not been announced.

Tarogama Z31T S-NSCS4 Specifications
ztkyhodori.co.hd/eng/bn/nscs4/kaga/tarogama/z31t
Translated from Hodoran to English

The third-generation Z31T to participate in the NSCS, the Tarogama Motors Z31T S-NSCS4 features a slightly longer wheelbase and slightly wider track than the previous Z31T S2. Without the roof airscoop, the S-NSCS4 is lower to the ground than the S2, with a height of 980mm, including the 60mm ground clearance. With the airscoop, the car is 1.2 meters tall.

Unchanged from the previous Z31T, the S-NSCS4 was designed for producing downforce, which is achieved through a large rear spoiler and a wide body with large, bulging fenders covering the wheels. Also assisting with increasing downfore are a rear blown diffuser and a specially designed front end, with air directed through the nose either towards the front brakes or out of vents built into the front trunk lid.

The S-NSCS4 rides on 650mm-diameter tires with 500mm-diameter wheels. Unlike the previous models, the S-NSCS4 has 285mm-wide tires on all four corners. The 6-pot opposing piston brake calipers on all four wheels return, while the 350mm-diameter carbon-ceramic cross-drilled brake discs from the previous models were reduced to a 346mm diameter.

The drivetrain format from the previous models returns, with the water-cooled R321E tri-rotor sequentially-turbocharged Wankel rotary engine mounted longitudinally behind the cockpit and the engine outputting power towards the front to the transmission, where the drivetrain then sends power back to the rear wheels. The transmission is of a dual-clutch sequential type, developed in-house by Tarogama Motors. The sequential twin turbos reduce the turbos lag inherent in turbocharged systems by using two smaller, lighter turbochargers as opposed to a single large, heavy turbocharger. To preserve engine life, the NSCS-Spec R321E turbocharger system generates less pressure than the NSCS-Spec R320E used last season.

Virtually unchanged from the R321E S2, the R321E S3 rotary engine has side-intake ports and peripheral-exhaust ports. To ensure more complete ignition of fuel and to slightly improve fuel efficiency, three sparkplugs are used per rotor.

The S-NSCS4 Z31T retains the five-point racing harness and side-impact bars of the HGTC model, citing driver safety as more important than ease of driver changes during the NSCS4 Endurance Rounds.

Ready For Some Action - We hope.

A new (to us) race series. A new car developed especially for this competition. Two rookie drivers out to make their mark in a long list of successful Yumbo Jumbo sponsorship endeavors. So what exactly does all of this mean? The simple answer - Diddly Squat.

With fully one half of the current season’s drivers bearing the rookie namesake, it becomes apparent that this series is in for a direct infusion of new racing blood. So even as we try to be fair to Vagai street racers Baudes Hyo’Ingorii and Jiame Yutu’usi, expectations of what may come are rising fast and it would seem the two have very little time to make up the learning curve against seasoned veterans and more polished rookies who have been competing in these type of events for a lot longer.

But the real questions surround the newly developed Aqi platform from Voque, a relatively new Vegai automotive company who has jumped directly into the deep end of the pool. The car is rather untested compared to the traditionally proven cars in the series. Add to that the oddity of the W12 engine setup and there is plenty of reason for fans and everyone involved to worry. It remains to be seen if the car and/or drivers can hold up under the pressure of such a competitive circuit.

Here are the cars specs,

Manufacturer: Voque
Designation: Aqi
Style: 2-seater coupe
Drive: FR
Engine:6.0L W12
Wheelbase: 2,650 mm (104.3 in)
Length: 4,620 mm (181.9 in)
Width: 1,942 mm (76.5 in)
Height: 1,284 mm (50.6 in)
Curb weight: 1,258 kg (2,773 lb)

And, for all you Vegai race fans, the final race of the season will be held in Dwarvenhamme at the (hopefully by then) brand new Ewer Daxastrii Da’ar. Perhaps racing will finally gain a hold in the Draggonnii Socialist Empire.

report by Lukas Schneider

Ladies and Gentlemen! The time has come for the fourth season of the NationStates Sports Car Series, and we are back to report on all the events of this season. But first, let's have a look at what happened during the off-season.

Only weeks after the end of last season, it was formally announced that Team Aquilyne AMR would be renamed to Aquilinia Imperial Racing, AIR for short, and that the team would remain under full control of the Imperial Family. It was also announced that retired driver Jonathan Klein, paralysed from the waist down after last season's horrible accident, would be assuming the duties of team principal. Sarah Millner was confirmed as returning driver, with Klein's injury replacement Katharina Müller taking the second cockpit for her first full season as a member of the team.

There had already been rumours about the new car last season. Everyone expected a sensation, and a sensation was what they got - the Fuchs E9-GTR. Based on the legendary Jaguar E-Type, the E9-GTR combines the looks of a classic with the technology of today.

Image
Sarah Millner's E9-GTR, carrying the provisional number 14

The car is powered by a naturally-aspirated 8-litre V12 engine, developed by Fuchs Motorsport in co-operation with Jaguar. The tyres will be supplied by APEX Tyres.

We will have more for you after the first race, an endurance race at Davenport, Havl. We wish all drivers and teams good luck - and of course we hope that Aquilinia Imperial Racing will be even more successful than last year!

Møller Racing Update
brought to you by LBC

Møller Racing Test HQ, ENTALLA, LUBEIA
Good evening and welcome to the 2011 NS Sports Car Series. Here at the Møller Test HQ, people are getting ready for the season to kick off.
But now, just a reminder for our line-up for the first race which will take place at the Davenport International Circuit in Havl.

Our drivers will be driving the Møller Phoenix for their races.
Image
This car was recently built by the Møller Racing - a subsiduary of the Møller group which itself is quite new. Møller claims it can do 0-60km/h in 3.1 seconds. It is fitted with a newly designed Islero GT/ 12 Litre V-12 engine and Metzelin M-40 tyres.

In case you've forgotten who the main drivers are, here they are again:
Ezio Trieste - CAR 1

Bringing you closer to the action!

Hello. Poplarkerr Racing is back in the NationStates Sports Car Series. Today at the Manukala International Raceway, near Mananza, the team unveiled their car. Our reporter, Thomas Kürtemann, was there.

Thomas Kürtemann wrote:It was a beautiful day at the Manukala International Raceway. The day was made even better when the car was revealed. It really did look stunning. The big headline is the new engine; a naturally aspirated 6.5l V12. I'll tell you this: you really can hear the difference from the old 4.0l twin-turbo V12 or even the older 5.0l twin-turbo V12. Yet there is less horsepower from the new engine. With the 5.0l twin-turbo V12 there was 700bhp, from the 4.0l twin-turbo V12 650bhp, but from the 6.5l V12 there is 600bhp. This can probably be attributed to the absence of two massive turbos. I also know that chances are, it'll be quick. It's lap round the Manukala International Raceway was 6.12.374s only 20s slower than the non-race, non-road legal, track-only Poplarkerr Dragoon, which has 1500bhp and 1200lb/ft of torque. There are a few other tweaks like a new suspension which I'm not allowed to tell you about and a double-clutch gearbox that changes gear in 10 milliseconds. I'm really looking forward to commentating on the new season. Bye for now.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lonu Hari looked at his Poplarkerr Bolt Wettbewerb RSR. The team were doing a test at the Manukala International Raceway. At the moment his reserve driver, Christophe Nimpat, was sitting inside the car. He was getting ready to do some laps. He walked over to his race engineer, Samu "Nutz" Nutzokhanovinovinaia.

"How am I doing?", he asked.
"Take a look for yourself. At the moment Veigon is quickest, but then he always is at these tests. Yours and his lap times have been pretty similar at the telemetry will reveal why. Your line is blue, Veigon's line is red, Christophe's line is green and Marti's line is yellow," was Nutz's reply.
"This is throttle."
"Yep, and this is braking. Both are very similar. On terms of lap times; Veigon is fastest, you're second, Chrisophe is third and the youngest driver in the team, Marti, is fourth."
"Okay."
"Veigon is in the pit lane. You'll be able to talk to him about track conditions for your run in about 20 minutes."

Sure enough, the car of Veigon Lüffen pulled about at the next pit garage. There the team did a pit-stop practice and pulled him in. Out of the car climbed Lonu Hari's best friend, team mate and rival Veigon Lüffen.

"How is it Veigon?"
"Good, Lonu. Track is providing good grip as are the Kenda tires. It's looking..."

Suddenly, he was cut short by Nutz. Lonu Hari looked at the screen. "Balls."

Veejay Thumberg wrote:Welcome to coverage of the inaugural 6 Hours of Davenport as Series 4 of the NationStates Sports Car Series begins live on HTVM, brought to you by Energizia, Inc. The weather played a very important role this weekend at the Davenport International Circuit as wet-weather specialists Sayono Kayani and codriver Sayono Kayani have dominated the first endurance race in NSCS history. Kayani set pole position in a qualifying session that was almost canceled due to the drenching downpour that failed to cease over the course of the six-hour race. Rounding out the podium are Baudes Hyo’Ingorii and Canda Urix’Hyu of Yumbo Jumo Racing, followed by Monteluci's second car driven by Michiel van Eekeren and Markus Reiset. We've seen a high attrition rate at the circuit as several high-profile teams failed to finish, including a double DNF for last year's champions, Fyreballz Racing. Quite a start to the season, wouldn't you say, Jody?
Jody Hödem wrote:A great start indeed, Veejay, but a devastating result for reigning champion Nee Wan, who struggled all weekend to find pace on the soaking-wet surface. It was Tarogama all the way. The new wider-track Z31T seemed comfortable in the damp conditions, perhaps aided by their Deyoze wet-compound tires. APEX was expected to do well this weekend, and many of their teams complained of graining on the left front tires during long stints.
Veejay Thumberg wrote:Thanks, Jody. The other teams are going to be hoping for a dry race as the NSCS heads to Fyreballz’ home race next week. Join us live on HTVM next week from the updated Glass Onion circuit in Spitfyred1.

NOTE: RP Bonus was awarded to Lubeia, even though the RP was posted after 5PM (GMT). Starting next week, the RP Cutoff will be in full effect. Anyone posting after the RP Cutoff time will not receive the RP Bonus.

I apologize that the race results table is a little unwieldy. However, please note that the table now includes tire brand, scorination score, polesitter, and championship points, as well as the endurance race codrivers. In the absence of qualifying, the pole position is awarded to the driver with the highest scorination score regardless of RP Bonus or DNF. In the event of a tie, pole will be awarded by finishing position.

Poplarkerr Racing get good start to the season

The car made an excellent start to the year as Poplarkerr Racing took 10th and 11th places. Thomas Kürtemann and Emmanuel Arrîch were there.

Thomas Kürtemann wrote:After a dry Friday Practice session people expected it to be the same for Saturday and the race. But it wasn't. Torrential rain almost cancelled the qualifying session, but it went ahead only for the Loonaterese team to discovery they struggled in the wet and a few spins did cause problems. In the end the team lined up 18th and 20th. Pole went to Tarogama Motorsports and Sayano Kayani.

Emmanuel Arrîch wrote:With the rain still showing no signs of subsiding the stage was set for a wet race. The tricky conditions caught a few drivers out early on. The first driver to make a mistake was Katharina Müller who was caught out by aquaplaning at Turn 8 sending her Fuchs E9-GTR into the tire wall thus ending hers and Prince-Consort Ulrich's race. Then a big surprise. John Newman dropped it under braking and went careering into the side of Jacob Mischen's Vanquer GT. Newman's race was over. Mischen limped back to the pits only to discover a severe suspension issue causing his retirement.

Thomas Kürtemann wrote:Every team had issues in the rain. Even Tarogama Motorsports weren't immune to mistakes as Sakiteno Zareni proved when she crashed her Tarogama Z31T S-NSCS4 straight into the back of Siro Schiavone's Vanquer GT, due to poor visibility, taking both of them out of the race. The next car to come a cropper in the tricky conditions was the Fyreballz Racing DBR9 of Lou Kollis when he span out into the barriers at Parabolica.

Emmanuel Arrîch wrote:Poplarkerr Racing's new boy, Marti Corbin, made mistakes. A big mistake at Pouhon had the team worried, but Marti Corbin got the car going again. The biggest shock of all was an engine failure for Jerome Brown, the reserve driver for reigning champion Nee Wan. That was game over for Fyreballz Racing. A puncture for Rick Lattimore severely damaged his Tuttle TR3 GT. Game over for him.

Thomas Kürtemann wrote:Then the safety car made it's third appearance of the day. Ricardo Demonte got on the grass in the braking zone for Turn 4. This sent him careering into the side of Basso Fanucci's Vanquer GT. Fanucci's Vanquer was third Vanquer GT to retire meaning only 1 of the 4 Vanquer GTs made it to the finish. The last car to retire was Chet Philip's Tuttle TR3 GT. It's gearbox failed and the team didn't have enough time to replace it.

damn it...

Man, a bad week and we are already in a tough spot. A flu spread through the team this week and by raceday we were at a huge disadvantage. We hadn't done any press conferences and our practice was way off. Both Nee and I were rather bleary and we had poor races before we were taken off the course not meeting minimum speed.

A truly disappointing start, that I hope does not fortell a tough season. We should be able to move up quickly, we have a great car and when healthy should be back in contention. Hell we had a few bad races last season and still won.

I think both Nee and I can thank the Brown twins Jerome and Jacqui for keeping us close. The two are future Fyreballz Racers with great skill. I am surprised they didn't get the call up last year. Jerome drove fantastic for Nee and even was in first at a point. Jacqui kept me in contention and were headed towards a top-five before I couldn't convert. Both the Brown's are great friends of mine and I hope we can race together some more. Friends are hard for me to maintain and I value them immensely.

Speaking of friends, my dear friend Mikeala had a decent race, finishing but should do better next week. I haven't spoken to her yet, splitting headache and fever and all but I hope to chat soon. Nee's friends at Tarogama had a rough weekend with a DNF as well as the win, I hope to send my congrats coupled with comismerations. Our friends (I hope they hold something close to our reverent respect towards them) Forza and Monteluci had good races as well. Forza had a strong performance by their rookie driver, but a tough finish by who I consider the best couple in the field Lowndes/Newman. Monteluci was the winner of the weekend, and should do great this season, congratulations.

Next week, I'm coming home to Spitfyred1. I am so excited to be home and to hang with my friends, (I expect a great night with Lewis, Ferd, Mike, Jens, Jacqui, Jerome, and others). I look forward to showing the visiting teams around and Nee and I will give personal tours to anyone. You hear that Mikeala? My flat on Thursday, I can show you around. Our great leader Maxwell Edison M.D. will give our team medals for our performance last year and I am psyched.

Esteemed fans, as last year I am hosting a party after the race. Please visit because I love meeting you all. I will dance with any fan who wants to, and will sign autographs. Dress how you want and we can have a great time. It will be start at the Glass Onion Hotel before moving to the Stilton for the late night portion. Everyone can come! That means come!

Any other RPer. If you want to keep a story arc this season, TG me!

Re: Weekly Update

Attn: Drivers and Engineers

Weekend Review
I would like to firstly congratulate all teams and drivers on their performance at the Davenport International Circuit. The circuit is a gruelling test of both physical and mental endurance at the best of times, and the wet conditions only compounded the difficulty.

Our engineers are analysing the data gained over the 1533 laps that were run on our tyres. The data suggests that the loading of the front left was at times greater than expected, especially as the cars went through the fast right hand turns. This increased the tyre wear, and some drivers felt their tyres did not handle as well late in the race. Due to this evidence of excess graining on the front left tyres, APEX Tyres is examining different materials which can be added to the wet compounds to increase the durability. We hope to have an upgraded tyre to our constructor teams by the fourth race of the season.

Whilst our constructors did not take home the chequered flag, company management is delighted that the next six cars to cross the line were all APEX shod. After the first race, APEX teams outscored teams which do not use APEX by eighty points, 288 to 208. While this shows great promise for the season ahead, APEX Tyres will not stop developing our premium race tyres for our teams, and we are working hard in preparation for the next race at The Glass Onion.

The Glass Onion - Preview
Consisting of one long and several short straights, the track features twenty one corners which are sure to keep drivers on their toes. Our testing data suggests tyres that compliment a balanced set up to cope with the dramatic changes from high to low speed are crucial to victory at this circuit. We expect a full throttle ratio of around 60%, and medium associated tyre wear. Testing under similar conditions at our configurable testing track has revealed that the slick DM/DS compounds will be most suitable for this circuit, and will be provided for all constructors ahead of the weekend.

APEX Tyres 'Pinnacle Performer of the Week'
This week APEX Tyres would like recognise the performance by Baudes Hyo’Ingorii, and co-driver Canda Urix’Hyu, in their podium position in the first race of their rookie season. Hyo’Ingorii pulled out a strong drive in difficult conditions, which saw the Yumbo Jumbo Racing pair leave some far more experienced drivers well behind.

Lastly, I would also invite any constructors using APEX Tyres to our testing and manufacturing facilities in Southern Cynocephali. We would be more than willing to demonstrate our facilities and commitment to innovation if you are so interested. As always, if any drivers or engineers have any queries about our products, their specifications or recommended operational parameters, please do not hesitate to contact me.

All the best,

André Zocchetto,
Constructor Liaison Officer,

Blame it on the Rain.

That seems to be the main theme coming from Davenport International Circuit following a race that saw 11 racers not finish. However we do not share this opinion as every race team had the same conditions to deal with and 13 racers managed to adapt and find a way to get it done. Adaptability is something not rated highly enough.

But the struggles of others paid off for Yumbo Jumbo racing’s first venture into this style of racing as Hyo’Ingorii and Urix’Hyu finished 2nd and Yutu’usi and Jippu Juntii finishing 7th.

“The drivers did their jobs very well and we are very pleased with the results in this race. Perhaps their street racing background proved the difference as you have to adapt to a numbe rof things in such racing. Weather, Traffic, Police, etc.

But the real news of the day was the performance of the Voque Aqi which handled the adverse conditions brilliantly. We were worried how the car would respond and are ecstatic with the results. The wet pavement was not a major factor for the car even given the quirks presented by the Apex tires. Now we will have to wait and see how well it performs on a dry surface.

Next up is the Glass Onion in Spitfyred1 where we will get a better glimpse of just how good our guys are.

Møller Racing Update
brought to you by LBC

Davenport International Circuit, DAVENPORT, HAVL

A successful start to the season is what many are calling Møller Racing's endurance racing début at Davenport earlier this week. Our cars managed to take 8th and 9th position in the quite eventful race. Many are thanking the drivers' experience on wet surfaces, others also the newly designed Metzelin M-40FW full-wet tyres but everyone agrees that Sofie Hollander-Bright's efficient and very effective training methods definitely played a major role. In an exclusive interview with LBC, Tom Danish said "We're very lucky to have Sofie as our team principal[...]I can safely say she's the best principal I've ever had."

From the beginning there was a torrential rain storm. It caused a number of accidents and most of the 11 DNFs. Whole teams did not finish including the defending champions surprisingly enough. Both Fyreballz Racing cars went out - Nee Wan, last year's drivers' champion, lost his grip a number of times on the wet tarmac and thus didn't manage to keep up with the rest of the pack. While Lou Kollis, Fyreballz's second car's driver, wasn't successful in turning around the Parabolica and he went out.

In terms of the podium, Tarogama MotorSports scraped the win with Sayono Kayani of Car #7.
A rookie - Yumbo Jumo Racing's Baudes Hyo’Ingorii - came second. He did race exceptionally well. We believe he is the one to watch this season - some are saying a new Nee Wan.
And Monteluci SFS Corse got the bronze with Michiel van Eekeren.

So overall a successful race for Møller Racing and we hope they do even better at tomorrow's race at the Glass Onion in Spitfyred 1.

NS Sports Car Series 4 Round 1 Report: Kayani, Yegini Take Victory at Davenport
ztkyhodori.co.hd/eng/bn/nscs4/0002
Translated from Hodoran to English
Havl

Tarogama MotorSports and Sayono Kayani have had a strong start to the fourth NationStates Sports Car Series, securing the pole position in qualiying and leading the pack to victory at Davenport.

Driving the No. 7 Tarogama Z31T, Sayono Kayani and Sezako Yegini completed 225 laps under wet conditions, two more than Baudes Hyo'Ingorii and Canda Urix'Hyu of the No. 16 Yumbo Jumbo Racing Voque Aqi. Sakiteno Zareni and Keiseno Arame, driving the No. 8 Tarogama Motorsports Z31T, failed to finish after a brake system failure. Michiel van Eekeren and Markus Reiset (#10) finished third, beating the Forza R12 of Chris Judd and James Bartel (#4) to the finish with 221 laps completed. The No. 9 Monteluci SFS Corse Duca, driven by Paolo Monteluci and Daniel Baer, rounded out the top five with 219 laps completed.

Among the cars retiring early are the two cars of Fyreballz Racing, driven by Nee Wan and Jerome Brown (#1) and Lou Kollis and Jacqui Brown (#2). The No. 3 Forza R12 of Steve Lowndes and John Newman also failed to finish.

After a disappointing third season, Tarogama MotorSports appears to be rebounding quickly, with the endurance win in Davenport. Over the next nine rounds, there will be one more Endurance race, plus Round 9 in Hodori, where Tarogama MotorSports has dominated both times the NSCS has visited the Tarogama Circuit. The full Tarogama circuit, as used for the HGTC ENSADRINK 1000, is one of several candidates for the second Endurance round.

With the results from NSCS4 Round 1, Yumbo Jumbo Racing will enter Round 2 as the Team standings leader, with 94 points. Monteluci SFS Corse is second with 90 points, and Tarogama MotorSports third with 70 points. Kayani will lead the driver standings entering Round 2, with Hyo'Ingorii second, van Eekeren third, Judd fourth, and Monteluci fifth. Zareni will need consistently strong performances to make up for the brake failure that ended her race in Havl and set her back by a fairly large points margin.

Hello World, we meet yet again.
Let's get right to the results.

Up front, we have the rotary-powered Z31T of Sayono Kayani and Sezako Yegini. So the HGTC experience finally paid off. Also benefitting from past HGTC experience? Deyoze Tire Company. They make pretty much all the tires used in the HGTC. Ezagama Rubber was the other tire company, but they got absorbed by Sakite Industries, renamed to Sakite Tire Company, and now form Sakite Automotive with Sakite Motor Company. So that got me thinking; what doesn't Sakite Industries make?

Anyways, back to the results.

Two laps behind the winning Z31T is the reciprocating piston Voque Aqi from ASMV driven by Baudes Hyo'Ingorii and Canda Urix'Hyu. Monteluci SFS Corse gets a podium with Michiel van Eekeren another two laps back. Chris Judd and James Bartel get fourth, and the other Duca, with Paolo Monteluci, is fifth. Sarah Millner and Philine Bommel took sixth, and Poplarkerr Racing returns after missing NSCS3, placing cars in 10th and 11th. Mikaela Treabian and Jeremy Lanshern got 12th for the Merconti Vanquer. Scuderia Monteforte returns after missing NSCS3. They got the last of the cars still running, with Giovanni Trollieti and Marcello Pionzio finishing 13th.

Ricardo Demonte of Scuderia Monteforte failed to finish, as did Katharina Muller, Steve Lowndes, and Jacob Mischen and Laeria Unpulva of Merconti Racing. Both Fyreballz also DNF'ed. Maybe the rain put them out?
While on the subject of DNFs, the other Z31T lost its brakes. That means Sakiteno Zareni and Keiseno Arame also get a DNF and no points. But there's still the Z31T up top. So the day wasn't a complete disaster.

Promising endurance start for Monteluci

By our motorsports reporter, Hein Vrieze

DAVENPORT - Despite rather disappointing performance in the last season, especially considering the brand’s reputation for reliability up till the third season, the SFS team seems to be back at full strength during the first race of the new season. ‘Endurance racing specialist’ Michiel van Eekeren with Markus Reiset ended 3rd and Paolo Monteluci and Daniel Baer finished 5th in Davenport, Havl, at a new 6-hour endurance race.

The new feature of the NSCS sports car series encompassed a 6-hour endurance run on the traditional first race at Davenport, Havl. With nearly half the entered cars out of the race as the flag dropped after 6 hours, Monteluci managed to score an impressive 3rd and 5th position, beating both Forza and Fyreballz, who lost one and both cars, respectively. However, not only the extended duration of the race but also the weather caused trouble for the drivers. Officials were on the brink of cancelling the event at several point during the 6 Hours of Davenport, due to the rain pouring down on the track, near-flooding parts of the circuit in the process.

However, Michiel van Eekeren, who used to take part in endurance racing events before his employment with Monteluci SFS and thus could claim to be more skilled at endurance racing than the average NSCS driver, was accompanied by Markus Reiset, the son of motor racing legend Christian Reiset and an avid fan of pouring rain on tracks. The couple managed to score an impressive result in their Mk3 GT1 Monteluci Duca, placing just behind Kayani and Yegini of Tarogama and Yumbo Jumbo Racings’ Hyo’Ingorii and Urix’Hyu.

Old Monteluci SFS F1 colleagues Paolo Monteluci and Daniel Baer jointly piloted the team’s #1 car but clearly suffered from the pouring rain, leading to a less-than perfect race for the two. Though originally credited with the best chances of winning for the Monteluci team, luck quickly turned out not to be in their favour as Daniel Baer spun the Monteluci at Parabolica at an early stage. This turned out to result in little damage, however, as the two continued on to capture a fifth place, behind Forza’s rookie driver Chris Judd and his wingman James Bartel and their own teammates. With only two laps difference between the two cars, Alfredo Monteluci said that he was ‘very content with the consistent performance of both the car and the drivers’ and that ‘this endurance race proved that the Mk3 Monteluci certainly was more reliable than the previous model and could compare to the competing cars on the grid’. Monteluci also said that he was ‘Very happy with the result of the new APEX tyres provided to them, even though some initial problems had to be solved.’ He specifically named some difficulties with tyre wear, but stated that this will be resolved as quickly as possible and ‘did not seem to be unique to the team’.

The next race at Spitfyred’s Glass Onion will be a regular NSCS race, in which Michiel van Eekeren and Paolo Monteluci will once again appear as the regular drivers for the team.

Lowndes hosed off track in wet and wild 6 Hours of Davenport

The NSCS's first endurance race was probably planned with better weather in mind than the torrential downpour which drenched the circuit through much of the scheduled race, however that didn't dampen the spirits of Tarogama Motorsports as they clinched their first win of the season. The weather didn't prove popular with the crowds who flocked to Davenport circuit and nor did it prove popular with nearly half of the 24 car field as many drivers were simply washed off the track in the appalling weather conditions.

The promise of double points for the race finished certainly encouraged the teams and drivers to push hard with some very quick lap times being set by the top running cars throughout the event. Just four laps covered the top cars at the end of the race with third and fourth placed cars being seperated by less than a lap. However often the harder driver's pushed, the more quickly they became unstuck on the very wet and slippery surface of the Davenport circuit even with full treaded wet weather tyres which have been seldom seen in the NSCS before.

John Newman's fleeting return to NSCS didn't go as well as Forza would have hoped and even pairing Newman with Steve Lowndes didn't equate to victory, the #1 Forza crashing out in spectacular style thirty laps in. After the first driver change and on a full load of fuel, Lowndes had been piloting the R12 along the high speed straight into turn 8 before locking up the brakes and sliding into the barrier of the turn, causing serious damage to the front right corner of the car. Although he managed to limp back to the pits in his stricken Forza, mechanics were dismayed to find the entire front suspension system had been destroyed in the accident. With no way to fix it in time, Newman and Lowndes were left to watch the rest of the field struggle in the wet conditions.

Rookie driver's Chris Judd and James Bartel had a little more luck for Forza, holding on to the leaders for much of the race to place a well deserved fourth. Although neither driver could match the lap times set by the more experienced front runners, clean driving and effective pit stops put earned the duo fourth place and welcome points for Forza. Judd's performance has not blown away the critics and many still believe that dropping John Newman for the untested Judd has not paid off for Forza. It would almost seem the critics were right with Judd lapping on average half a second slower than John Newman during the race, despite both cars being on identical fuel loads.

NSCS4 also marks the end of an era for Forza as they switch from Bridgestone to Apex as their tyre manufacturer of choice. Although the conditions weren't ideal in indicating if the move has been effective, Apex tyres certainly dominated the points standings; Apex tyres accumulating 288 points compared to the 208 gathered by the remainder of the field. Forza has stated that they believe the R12 has "transistioned perfectly to the new tyres and will deliver longer lasting performance" therefore it could be expected to watch the R12's run longer at the Glass Onion.

Join us next week for all the action from the Glass Onion as NSCS takes us to Spitfyred1!

Review: Race 1: Havl - The 6 Hours of Davenport

What a race! After an astonishing 6 hours, one thing is no longer to be questioned - the Fuchs E-9 GTR works. And it works brilliantly! Let's have a look at the race in detail.

This year's opening race was held under torrential rain, a condition that presented the drivers with quite the challenge. But IAR - like the other APEX teams - coped quite well, even though a non-APEX team, Tarogama MotorSports with drivers S. Kayani and S. Yegini (#7), ultimately left the stage as victors. But the six drivers that followed were all equipped with APEX tyres. B. Hyo'Ingorii/C. Urix'Hyo (#16) of Yumbo Jumbo Raciung, M. van Eekeren/M. Reiset (#10, Monteluci), C. Judd/J. Bartel (#4, Forza), and P. Monteluci/D. Baer (#9, Monteluci) joined the Tarogama drivers to fill the top five. Our own Sarah Millner with her co-driver Philine Bommel (#11) finished sixth, mere seconds behind Monteluci/Baer.

But there were also some notable disappointments. Both reigning champion Nee Wan with his co-driver Jerome Brown and his team colleague Lou Kollis with co-driver Jacqui Brown failed to finish. But the weekend wasn't all good for Aquilinia Imperial Racing either, as our own Katharina Müller (#12) crashed nine laps into the race. Contrary to earlier reports, this was not solely caused by Aquaplaning, but rather by a failure of the front left wheel. Apparently, the rim supplied had been faulty, and broke under the strain of a turn under racing conditions. Luckily, neither Müller nor her car sustained any damage.

There are two things to be learned from this race for us. Firstly, our car works, and superbly at that. Secondly, and more importantly: rain is a pain. Let's hope it does not bother us again at the next race at the Glass Onion, where reigning champion Nee Wan will be hoping to return to speed, and Aquilinia Imperial Racing will be trying to prevent that from happening!

It has been a fantastic race here in Spitfyred1 as reigning NSCS champion Nee Wan has dominated his home race leading flag to flag. He also set a lap record during qualifying to start from P1. Rounding out the podium is veteran Veigon Lüffen and fellow Spitfyred1 hometown driver Lou Kollis. Following last year's less-than-stellar result, the Fyreballz team was anxious to take victory on home soil.
Jody Hödem wrote:That's right, Veejay. The team won both titles last year, but they were rumored to be looking for victory in this race specifically. And they earned it with a dominating performance from their champion. The changes made to the circuit seemed to have played to the DBR9's strengths. However, the new surface material had a harsh effect on the team's tires. It looked like the APEX-shod teams were getting more performance on longer stints. Alas, it wasn't enough to wrestle the win from car #1 this weekend.

Podium for Poplarkerr in Spitfyred1!

Poplarkerr Racing and Veigon Lüffen proved they could b a force to be reckoned with in Spitfyred1.

Thomas Kürtemann wrote:Hello and welcome to the Glass Onion Circuit in Spitfyred. The track was delightfully dry for the entire weekend a welcome sight for all the teams after the rain in Havl. Qualifying was bound to be good. The Fyreballz team took the front slot, Nee Wan setting a new lap record in the process.

Emmanuel Arrîch wrote:The race held great prospect. The APEX tires were certainly better on longer runs, but for flying laps the Kenda tires and Fyreballz tires were the best. The start of the race was not what Poplarkerr Racing would have been hoping for. Lonu Hari stalled and just when they thought it couldn't get any worse it did. The Merconti Racing Vanquer GT of Mikaela Treabian had ade a good start and was now battling with the Fuchs E9 GTR of Katharina Müller a driver who had started 4 grid slots ahead of her. Müller moved to avoid hitting the Poplarkerr Bolt Wettbewerb RSR of Lonu Hari. Treabian was not so lucky. She didn't have enough time to react and hit the back of the Poplarkerr. She was out on the spot. Lonu Hari tried to carry on, but eventually decided that it was game over for him.

Thomas Kürtemann wrote:We had too wait 20 laps before the next retirement, not necessarily a bad thing. The car in trouble was the Fuchs E9 GTR. All we know about that car's, the car of Sarah Millner, retirement is that is that it was something technical although we're not sure what. The suspicion is that it was a hydraulics issue. Next to retire was Paolo Monteluci. He had a coming together with the Tuttle TR3 GT of Rick Lattimore. Lattimore was able to continue, but after the superb result for Monteluci in Havl, the retirement was a bitter disappointment for Monteluci SFS Corse.

Emmanuel Arrîch wrote:It was another long wait before we had another retirement. This one was Jacob Mischen. Things have been going badly for Mischen and Merconti Racing. Mischen retired at Davenport and his retirement finished out a double retirement for Merconti Racing in Spitfyred1.

Thomas Kürtemann wrote:In the dying laps Forza Racing's Chris Judd finally called it quits. He had been nursing a severe gearbox issue for much of the race. He had dropped to 4 laps behind the leader when he decided it was time to give up. Nee Wan crossed the line to rapturous applause from the home fans. Him, Lüffen and Kollis had been very close together for the whole race. The gap had ,in fact, never been more than 10 seconds between Nee Wan and Lou Kollis. Kollis threw a party after the race and I have a feeling the celebrations were sweetest for Fyreballz Racing.

Eyes on the Road
Lou Kollis

Hey guys, I'm back.

Our team really enjoyed a spectacular return to form this week, placing both drivers on the home podium and partying hard afterwards.

I think our tough enduro strengthened our resolve for a triumphant return home, and it worked. From the start, Nee and I were focused and successful. The car was perfectly prepared by the crew and we just powered forwards. The laps kept adding up and success was the ultimate result.

Our car was tuned great from the yearlong testing by the Brown twins and it just turned perfectly. Hell, Nee broke the lap record! The tyres had a little wear at the end, which kept me from holding onto second, but I think we can still refine the compounds.

Perhaps the best thing about racing at your home track is the response you get from the crowd. We were swarmed at the autograph sessions and I can't state how great it was. I must have kissed a hundred babies, signed a thousand helmets and sheets of paper, and been requisitioned for ten-thousand one night stands. (I didn't accept any of the last, but your efforts were admirable) Nee and his wife hosted a great pre-race meal at their home and I must say that Mrs. Wan makes the best food!
During the race, I loved seeing your signs and brightly coloured selves. Its always amazing to see the support and to see my uniform worn by so many people.

Speaking of the race I would like to congratulate Veigon Lueffen for his great race and so great job. I also loved seeing two rookies, Ezio Trieste and Katharina Mueller take fourth and fifth respectadly. It was tough also to see some trouble befall my friends. Comismerations to my friends at Forza and Merconti as well as dear friends of the team Paolo Monteluci, Sarah Millner, Lonu Hari, and Mikeala Treabian for their DNFs. It hurts to see racers we know have issues but we wish them the best next year.

We are still a bit behind in the standings after are opening disaster, but I think we will catch up rapidly. I can't wait til next week at Medion International.

As many of you know, from going to it, we had a rollicking party after the race. It was great to see the turnout of fans and racers at the shindig and I definitly had fun.

It was great to spend more time with my friends, family, competitors, and fans. I started the night at the lobby of the Glass Onion Hotel, signing more things. Since the race was over, I was free to chat more openly and relax, so expect more moments. The camera flashes were incessant so I hope you enjoyed your photos. I tried to accomadate everyones needs; talking to their mothers, kissing them on the cheek, hugging, writing personal messages, funny photos, talking, etc. What a blast!

Afterwards we traveled to the Stilton for a more refined celebration. This one was reserved for teams, racers, and families. I hope everyone enjoyed the food and entertainment. Nee and the missus were PDA'ing all night, bless their souls. I relished meeting my cousins and parents again, as it had been half a year. Lewis, Ferd, Jens, Jacqui, and Jerome were there and we enjoyed meeting all the other teams' pit crews and staff. At the dance hall I made a point to dance with every woman, from every team (who would let me) at least once. Frankly, when relaxed everyone tremendously more handsome and beautiful!

Jacqui told me later about her best encounter of the night. She spent some time chatting with Jonathon Klein, the racer who had the terrible accident last year. She told me about how amazing he was for staying positive despite his plight and continuing to help his team. It really is a testament to the courage of humanity that he survived at all, let alone to recover as well as he had. He truly is a role model for us all to strive towards. (To tell the truth, Jacqui seemed a little enamored by Jonathon so I hope he knows he has a new admirer... my test driver)

I finished the night, hitting the pubs with a few friends, followers, and other drivers; living it up. That night I couldn't get the smile off my face, the perfect end to a perfect day.

Review: Race 2: Spitfyred - The Glass Onion

Two races, two DNFs for Aquilinia Imperial. While Katharina managed to finish fifth at the Glass Onion, Sarah had to retire after twenty laps after a her engine failed. We still haven't quite figured out what had happened, but we assume that wreckage from the collision between Treabian and Hari had caused a miniature puncture in her cooling system that caused a slow but certain failure. This result brings Katharina up to sixteenth, and Sarah down to tenth. In the constructors' championship, we're in a solid eighth close behind last year's champions' Fyreballz racing.

And that brings me to some happier news - the after-race party. It was the first such event that I attended after my crash last year, and boy, it was a weird feeling seeing all the drivers I once raced against again. I had a good talk with a few of the guys from Fyreballz Racing, especially with Jaqui Brown, who had doubled for the current champion, Lou Kollis, at the Six Hours. What a charming young woman! A lot of potential, too. If it wasn't for the nationality rule, I'd definitely try to get her on our team. As we talked, I watched Lou as he tried to get every single woman present to dance - he didn't get Sarah, she's more the drinking-chatting type, but Katharina really seemed to enjoy herself. I heard the girls went on a pub crawl with Lou and a few others after the party, too. All in all, the team had great fun that night, and I am looking forward to the next after-race party!

Oh, and lastly, there's some not-so-good news from back home. Most of you have probably heard already, but Her Holiness Empress Felicia has abdicated - some say she has been forced to - in favour of her young daughter Lucille, who is now represented by her adoptive sister and Imperial Regent, Lady Mindy, who as also taken over the Empress' duties in managing the team. Mindy is a real racing enthusiast, and she will be joining us at the track for the next race at Medion. I hope that her visit will help motivating the team for our first podium finish, or even a win. I am definitely excited to return to that great track.

Judd fails to finish as citics gain momentum

Forza's pace continues to slip further and further off the mark as the team has again posted another disappointing result at the Glass Onion race track in Spitfyred1. Although Steve Lowndes managed to hold on to a sixth place finish despite qualifying third, the Forza R12 could no longer keep pace with the front runners as the top three drivers pulled away with every lap. Chris Judd was set to finish seventh after running behind Lowndes for much of the race, however a critical error late in the race saw Judd beach his car in the sand trap, removing him from the race. The failure to see both cars cross the finish line for the past two races has had immediate consequences for the team, dropping to sixth in the constructors standings and already sit 60 points behind the leader.

The race was a near perfect result for the Fyreballz who dusted off their trying weekend at the series opener with a double podium, Nee Wan taking the chequered flag with Lou Kollis coming in a close second. Splitting the pair was Veigon Lüffen for Poplarkerr Racing, two names we haven't seen on the podium since the start of season two. Sayono Kayani continues to dominate the drivers championships despite coming in tenth, based on her strong performance in the opener at Davenport.

From the green light, things didn't look great for Forza's number one driver after a poor start saw him swamped by other cars going into the first corner. Lowndes dropped three places in the initial opening stoush to wind up in front of Forza's second car, piloted by Chris Judd. Although Lowndes' pace was lacking for the first few laps, Judd made no attempt to pass his team mate causing many to think that Forza is giving preference to Lowndes this year. Lowndes pitted very early for new tyres and also complained of graining on the new APEX tyres that Forza is using. However, after his first pitstop, Lowndes pace improved markedly and he was able to hold on to his sixth position until the end of the race.

A post race inspection of the tyres by VRSports.com did indeed display signs of graining, however Forza Racing maintains that Lowndes started on worn tyres from yesterday's qualifying session and intended to pit early. Many Forza supporters still question whether the switch to Apex from Bridgestone was a good move, considering Forza's lack of pace this year and persistent complaints about understeer in sweeping corners.

However if criticism for Apex is said to be bad, nothing could prepare Chris Judd and Forza management from the angry backlash by their legion of fans about the sacking of John Newman and the hasty installment of their new and untested rookie driver. Although tensions over the incident have already being simmering for weeks, anger over the driver swap reached an all time high late in the race today as Judd lost control of his car and nosed it into a wall, ending his race and surrendering vital points to other teams.

Judd started off well in his second career race and managed to hold onto Lowndes for the opening laps, before Lowndes pitted early. With his team mate out of the way, Judd was able to open up his race car and make a break away from the remainder of the field albeit with several other cars in tow. Judd managed to stay seventh for much of the race and hang on to his team mate in the process with a ten second buffer between himself and Sakiteno Zareni. In the dying laps of the race, Judd stepped on the accelerator too early through the first corner, causing the rear of his car to kick out and nosing his car into the wall in the process.

Domenic Maran had no comment about the issue with Judd, however he did go on to defend Apex tyres and remains optimistic about next weeks race at Medion.
Domenic Maran wrote:I really don't have anything to say about the issue we had with Chris today. It's not an even which we believe was serious or likely to repeat and I have nothing to comment on it.

I will go on to say that claims that the Apex tyres aren't working for us is unfounded bullshit. Lowndes started off today on the old tyres from yesterday so he could make an early pitstop for fresh rubber. We knew that we weren't going to be able to match the pace of some of the faster cars from the start of the race, however our strategy went down hill at the start of the race when Lowndes couldn't escape into clear air or cool his tyres. That is why you could see him struggle for grip in the opening laps.

Secondly, the R12 is still a competitive car despite the fact it hasn't changed a great deal as of recent. We still believe we can perform well this season after coming so close in seasons past and next week we will show that we still are a team that is worthwhile watching. Thanks guys.

Join us next week for all the action from Medion Raceway as we take you through the third race of the NSCS live from United Coronado.
