Welcome to the Cuppet, this shall be your thread for rostering, RPing, and also the thread I shall be posting results in.

The signup thread is now the OOC thread, and can be found here: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=139445

The list of entrants can be found in the spoiler at the bottom of this thread. There will be a bonus for rosters, and a bonus for RPing pre-MD1, as well as for any RPs following. Higher RP bonuses will be given for RPs that go beyond a simple "___ beat ___, ___ scored the goals, the fans were happy/sad/delete as appropriate". The bonuses for Tiers 1, 2, and 3 teams will be removed after the group stage. Once I have all the tiers, and I will shortly be collecting the remaining few via TG, I will be making the group draw.

Speaking of which... the schedule:
RP cutoffs will be between 10pm and midnight on the days specified below, GMT.
1st Oct - Group Draw
-
4th Oct - MD1
5th Oct - MD2
6th Oct - MD3
7th Oct - MD4
8th Oct - MD5
9th Oct - Round of 16
10th Oct - Quarter-Finals
11th Oct - Semi-Finals
12th Oct - Final/TPPO

If you are rostering, be sure to include the following permissions, thanks!
My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my goalscorers Y/N
Godmod scoring events Y/N
RP injuries to my players Y/N
Godmod injuries to my players Y/N
Hand out yellow cards to my players Y/N
Hand out red cards to my players Y/N
Godmod other events Y/N

I think that's everything, though don't be surprised to see crafty edits in later :p
Any questions, TG me.

Zenega
World Cuppet Tournament Squad

The Zenega National Team is a mix of players playing in the Zenegalese national league, of which Zaire-74 is the dominant force and best represented in this team, and players plying their trade in Tamarindia. Controversy surrounds the exclusion of players from the Galoya Galere team, who are Zaire-74's chief rivals and the other dominant club in Zenegalese football. Manager Ngozi Suavé denies the conspiratorial rumours.

Zenega, officially the Republic of Zenega (République du Zénéga), is a country south of the Zénéga River in western Altafrique. It owes its name to the river that borders it to the east and north. Zenega is externally bounded by the Spanish Ocean to the west, Barbary Salé to the north, Kurufa to the east, and Gao to the south. It covers a land area of almost 197,000 square kilometres, and has an estimated population of about 14 million. The climate is tropical with two seasons: the dry season and the rainy season.

Ouakam, the capital city of Zenega, is located at the westernmost tip of the country on the Cap-Cayor peninsula. About 500 kilometres off the coast, in the Spanish Ocean, lie the Market Islands. During the 17th and 18th centuries, numerous trading posts, belonging to various colonial empires, were established along the coast. The town of St. Louis became the capital of French West Altafrica (Altafrique Occidentale Française, or AOF) before it was moved to Ouakam in 1902. Ouakam later became its capital in 1960 at the time of independence from France.

Today Zenega is part of the Spanish Ocean Commonwealth, an internationalist syndicate alliance chaired by Doctor James Sunshine, Comrade-President of Tamarindia. All parties dislike the use of the term 'puppet', since each syndicate in the Commonwealth is autonomous. The incumbent head of syndicates in Zenega is Comrade-General Theroux Chukwumoge.

Expect the Balafons to play an optimistic attacking formation, to exploit mercilessly the oft-held stereotype of naïve altafriquan enthusiasm – this will be most evident in giving away a large number of cynical fouls and hoping not to get booked, pleading naïve altafriquan enthusiastic innocence. Commentators will be guilty of exclaiming “they do love their football in Zenegal, but,” - and there is always a 'but' after the patronising opening, and then a chuckle, and then - “they're not so keen on defending, are they Ron?” But the Balafons will defend quite happily, and kick teams all over the park when not in possession, with a smile on their face. Attacking when in possession, strong in the tackle, likely to accumulate yellows and reds, happy – they really do like their football, Ron – but no mugs. Also not very good, never likely to compete in a world cup, not expecting much from the Cuppet except an interesting trip to the far north: cue commentator “they're wearing gloves Ron, they'll not cope with the stinging cold up here, for all their enthusiasm.”

DJOCORANGA
The Black Stars

Presenting their squad for their first ever international competition is Djocoranga, that fierce 'democratic' republic from the shores of Lake Cygnus. Their kit is coloured for the peoples of the Kilima and Matope, who inhabit the land, with the away kit coloured for the Mto River, whose importance to the nation cannot be overestimated.

Number - Position - Name - Age - Team

1 - GK - Okechukwu Awolowo - 29 - Yangeyange
2 - DR - Kitsu Effiong - 26 - Yangeyange
3 - DL - Kofi Akinyemi - 26 - Mtoville Sunshine

23 - DC - Innocent Sarr - 25 - Mtoville Sunshine

Manager - Noah Nnamani
Head Coach - Kokou Cisse

TACTICS
Djocoranga play a very physical game. Lots of running, lots of full bodied tackles, and lots of aggression. They play a fairly neutral diamond formation, protecting the defence whilst leaving a reasonable gap in midfield before looking to counter attack. The captain, Kwame Traore, is the undisputed talent in the side and stands at nearly 2 metres tall, with Pepe Yeboah the main source of attacking momentum and will take most free kicks. Traore will score plenty headers from corners, and the main strikers of Ndiaye and Akiloye will obviously score most of the other goals.

The Glorious Football Klub of the Kuril Arkhipelago
Image

The people of Kuril are delighted to present to you their first ever football team. Located way out in the west of the island chain, this arkhipelago and its inhabitants have always konsidered themselves a little bit different to those in the rest of the Federation, and indeed, the state has a large and thriving nationalist movement. The letter C does not exist in the Kuril Dialekt, and whilst this may konfuse a few people in konversation with Kurillians, it generally doesn't kause too many problems.

The majority of their team is drawn from teams already in Kuril Arkhipelago, though a few have made it big and reached the better teams. Their captain, Tommi Kokkur, has thirteen caps and two assists for the terns and currently plays for Skyline FC in Mangolana. All are proud to be playing for their state, and will be hard in the tackle, and play to the very end of the ninety minutes.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you, your groups:
But wait! Stop press!
I have made a catastrophic error in the posting of the previous schedule. For this, I apologise, but I forgot we were having groups of 5, not 4. Hence, 5 MDs are needed, not 3. Ahem. Well nobody else noticed either...
Anyway, to combat this, the "rest day" will be obliterated. Boom! Wheeee... Look, there it goes. No more rest day before the knockout stages. No more. Its gone, and we need to move on. And also the first scorination and RP cutoff shall be between 10pm and midnight GMT on the FOURTH of October instead.

Thank you.

Operating out of the nearby Civil Citizenry due to being banned from Astograth, the Futbol Iturributako Federazioa has managed to gather a team of Iturributan players to head out to the inaugural Cuppet in the distant Polar Islandstates. Anti-separatist elements in the Grand Duchy's upper echelons have made sure to condemn both the tournament and the teams taking part, considering them a threat to national security and integrity. The FAF hasn't made it any easier; clubs have the right to refuse to allow their players to participate, and those who are selected to play for Iturributa and Ituraitz forfeit the possibility of competing for the Astograthian national team in the future.

This has narrowed down the spectrum of available players to a handful for former Freedom FC manager Mayorga Achaga. A lack of midfield talent and an abundance in offense has made him choose a risky 4-1-2-3 formation that will be heavily reliant on long balls and the capabilities of the lone defensive midfielder. Thankfully he has two talented men there: the experience Urdin Olibarri from league champions Ituraitz FC and the versatile Gartzi Oramuno from Sporting Iturributa. Down the wings, the presence of Tamarindia-based Kasen Bastegieta is noteworthy, and up front the large Aitor Uloikar will attempt to atone for his long-forgotten stint in the Astograthian national team. The biggest news is the return from retirement of Anko Martikorena, former captain of Sporting Iturributa, just for this tournament. Although a tremendously skilled centre-back, he hasn't played a competitive match in over three years and there are serious doubts over his fitness.

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my goalscorers: YES
Godmod scoring events: YES
Roleplay injuries to my players: YES

Hand out yellow cards to my players: YES

Operating out of the nearby Civil Citizenry due to being banned from Astograth, the Futbol Ituraitziko Federazioa has managed to gather a team of Ituraitzi players to head out to the inaugural Cuppet in the distant Polar Islandstates.

Laurgain Erlis, former star of Ituraitz FC and the Astograthian national team, has been selected as manager of Ituraitz and will be displaying a functional 4-2-3-1 formation when the sanctions imposed by the FAF impeded Soter Sarlange and Dei Ormache from making the team and severely restricting the amount of capable strikers available. Not deterred by this was right winger Egerdi Bordato, who has sacrificed the chance to add to his 65 Astograthian caps to play for what he believes is his rightful nation. The undisputed star of the surprising Astograth University, Bordato is a seasoned set-piece specialist who can play pinpoint passes and crosses almost at will. Other noteworthy players to join the team are reliable keeper Aurken Krestia, the solid Emaut Oidor, the irascible Artzeiz Uhalt and the veteran Ageyo Alzate.

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my goalscorers: YES
Godmod scoring events: YES
Roleplay injuries to my players: YES
Godmod injuries to my players: YES
Hand out yellow cards to my players: YES
Hand out red cards to my players: YES
Godmod other events: YES

This is a test

Five days ago, programmers here at the Emigdio Venegas Centre, a research facility in the University of Anarquía, powered up a new hardware build which we have nicknamed Sixteen Bits. Splicing a flux capacitor to several HAL 9000 processors, putting it in an Enterprise warp-drive, using Culture mind interface technology for, um, interfacing and two Cyberdine T800s to drive it, we have unexpectedly created a 0.9333-level artificially intelligent sentient machine that demonstrates an Asperger Syndrome-type personality construct with an inexplicable love of football. It's immediate action was to calculate it's domestic leagues, and has been doing so ever since, now approaching 3.5 million recalculations, with OS Brigade Neurale seemingly a slight favourite with somewhere approaching 72,000 titles so far. Surprisingly it's second action was not to invent an implausible sport or create a sign-up thread destined to sink to page 77 with three signatures, as most of us humans have. Sixteen Bits second action was to post a single snapshot of the league calculation for UICA entry, and this is the third action: to sign up to Cuppet as a puppet of Tamarindia. We hereby declare we are not controlling Sixteen Bits 'calculation' of this tournament, as it calls what it is doing, but we have input some communication tips for SB so that it can make presentable posts, for example by suggesting it replace numbers with names for it's players. Seeing the value in this it has created a subroutine. Please bear in mind these players are calculations that ceased to exist approximately 0.21333r seconds after being recorded, and are therefore not available for transfer.

So, you want to come and visit the Federation of Polar Islandstates, eh? For this Cuppet thing? Well, you'll be pleased to know that the powers that be have designated every match a free ballot event. That's right, just apply, and you should get yourself some tickets. The locals are also very interested, and will look to be filling out the stadia. So without further ado, let's have a look at where you'll be playing...

Nasjonale Stadion - 67,481(Franz Josef City)
Home to the Terns, as well as hosting such nationally important matches as the Latitude Cup final, the Nasjonale is famous for its cauldron like acoustic design. This is a loud stadium, make no doubt about it. It will play host to group stage matches, a quarter final, and the final itself.
Image

The Barge - 32,340 (Bjarnarey)
By day, this floating stadium - part of a pontoon system that makes up most of the city of Bjarnarey - plays host to surprise Globe Cup qualifiers FC1. Bjarnarey Flotilla. It is unique in its floating nature, and has recently undergone a modernisation. Here, it will play host to group stage matches, and the third place play off.
Image

Landstadt Stadion - 54,195 (Franz Josef City)
A frequently noisy stadium, and well used to success, this is the home stadium of SK Franz Josef City, the Federation's most successful football team. It will play host to group stage matches, a round of 16 match, and a semi final.
Image

Millerntor Arena - 41,592 (St Paul)
Playing host to FC Cape St Paul, this large stadium will be featuring group stage matches, a round of 16 match, and a semi final.
Image

Victoria Stadium - 51,293 (Jan Mayen)
Home to the highly successful and passionate fans of Jan Mayen Islanders, this stadium is overshadowed by the large extinct volcano that Jan Mayen itself clings to, and will play host to group stage matches, a round of 16 match, and a quarter final.
Image

Carravale - 41,734 (Severny)
As the home of Red Star Severny, this stadium has seen changing fortunes over the years, and here will host group stage matches, a round of 16 match, and a quarter final.
Image

Rendahl Stadion - 47,911 (Franz Josef City)
Across the Elfsteijn Channel from the Landstadt, this famous stadium with its iconic four spires is the home stadium of East Franz Athletic. Here it will be host to group stage matches, a round of 16 match, and a quarter final.
Image

Mossy Park - 42,920 (Resolute)
With Resolute Storm 1913 FC playing there most days, Mossy Park will here play host to group stage matches and a round of 16 match.
Image

Stadion Nom-Nom Solberg - 45,924 (Surtsey)
FC1. Surtsey Island Gulls are the usual tenants of this old stadium, here will be ousted by group stage matches and a round of 16 match.
Image

Sivertsson Road - 28,548 (Longyearbyen)
With RSK Longyearbyen Town's topsy turvy form, this stadium has seen more than its fair share of drama, and here some group stage matches will seek to replicate that.
Image

The Workshop - 35,992 (Islay)
With Islay Town Mechanical's rapid rise from lower division side to top division side, their stadium has seen constant improvements in recent years. Still on the same site as the original workshop they used to play in, this stadium will play host to group stage matches at the Cuppet.
Image

Fleet Road - 29,424 (Scapa Bay)
Scapa Bay Rovers call this stadium home day in day out, and its unique acoustics are ideal for the cuppet, where it will play host to group stage matches.
Image

Axel Torvig Park - 25,195 (Axel Heiburg)
Sitting just in front of the grounds used by the famous Haapa-Mechelin Youth Academy, this home of FC Axel Heiburg will host group stage matches and a round of 16 tie at the Cuppet.
Image

Palace Approach - 31,392 (Northbrook)
With its harsh climate even by Polarian standards, the heated seats at this home of Northbrook Diamonds FK will prove more than welcome for those fans watching group stage matches here.
Image

Lokomotiv Park - 25,945 (Barentsberg)
With their promotion to the top division, the group stage matches being held here will be the first chance Lokomotiv Barentsberg will have had to show off their new additions to the stadium.

Manager – Gi Han Age: 61.
The 61 year old Han is the most senior man in Sienkan football, a veteran of the still adolescent federation, Han appeared in the inaugural football league (1987) playing for the now defunct Hsien-Ko Military Academy team at the age of 19. After a 15 year playing career which saw him play across the diminutive nation for five different clubs, Han moved to Rushmore at the turn of the century to study for his coaching badges in Queer Poco el Mono Ara, opting to travel in order to broaden his life experience. His first taste of management came in the unlikely form of being named goalkeeping coach for Pocoan side Atletico Palampas after a chance encounter with then Palampas manager Hector Villanueva. After three years with Palampas, Han returned to Hsien-Ko to take on the vacant managerial position at Budan Dragons. 21 years later down the line, several switches in employer, including an unsuccessful stint in Dansak Minor and Han has been installed as the first manager of the fledgling Hsien-Ko national team.

Star-Players.
Ki-Han, the 26 year old attacker plays for Pythons feeder club Daezu Vipers. Standing at a lofty 6ft 5 the gangly attacker is the tallest player in the team, he’s strong, quick and fantastic in the air and has been repeatedly linked with a move to the Una Serie and the six times championship winners. He finished last season as the top scorer in the H-League, finding the back of the net 27 times in 31 appearances.

Dong Yi is another Vipers player who shined for the Pythons feeder club. The 22 year old is already holding pre-contract talks with the Pocoan side after his sparkling form saw the winger rise to become Hsien-Ko’s hottest footballing prospect. The winger has amassed a huge female fan following after his good looks also saw him become an model in his home country with billboards adorned with his face littering most highways.

Timotheus Van Haenraats is in the squad on virtue of his mother being half Sienkan. He is one of less than a handful of players playing outside of the H-League and has proved to be the big hit in the Pocoan League II playing for Racing Minanda. He’s a tough tackler who doesn’t mind throwing his head in where it doesn’t belong.

Playing Style

The team opt for a straight forward 4-4-2 with the midfield creating a diamond shape with one midfielder playing a more defensive role and one just behind the strikers. The wingers play wide, hugging the line and like to launch balls into the box towards the towering Ki-Han.

Defensively they are a tight unit and opt to man mark with the wingbacks rarely making forays forwards. Captain, Gyeong Han leads from the back, barking orders to the men around him. The vociferous centreback is a rock in the back four and will always throw himself in the way of goal bound efforts.

The goalkeeper is probably the weak link in the team, prone to “rushes of blood to the head” he’ll come for balls he can’t reach and flap at easy catches.

'Azul Airlines flight AZ285 to Delgadopolis is now boarding at gate 12.'

"Azul Airlines? That's us."

"Relax. Why would we be going to Delgadopolis?"

"Oh forgive me. Because it's been such a straight forward trip so far. Hard to pick a highlight really. Being wedged in the cab of that tanker with the driver who kept calling me purdy. That was nice. Granted not as nice as the garbage barge voyage out to Brantalentia. And then there was the sardine boat back here. I'm currently more brine than man. Where are we heading anyway?"

"Cape Juane."

"Cape Ju . . . where?"

"Palacios. Errr . . . or possibly Rodallega."

'Final call for passengers flying on Sargair flight SGA069 to El din, your flight is now ready to depart.'

If you've seen one airport you've pretty much seen them all. Puerto Temuco's optimistically named Branto International Airport was little different, smaller and a little rundown but not exactly different. Which is where two members of Santazuela's embryonic national football team found themselves.

"This is ridiculous." Jose Andrade, perspective rightback exclaimed. "Could we not just fly to Franz Josef City?"

"Errr . . . no. Not without being locked up." midfielder Marco Rivas explained, again. "We're not meant to be here. If the Sargossans find out what we're up to we'd be unlikely to emerge completely intact. Competing for Santazuela encourages separatist thinking. That's what they'll tell us before they pull the trigger."

"I knew there was a catch. So Cape Jaune, then where?"

"Khaldoon next, then Islay, then Franz Josef City and finally a connection to wherever the hell Severny is."

"We remind all passengers to be vigilant of seditious behaviour. Thank you.

"Oh goody."

"Man up and remember we're José and Jaime Cuenta, two Rodallegan oil workers heading home on our holipops. Got it? Now strighten up and look Rodallegan."

"Are the whole squad having as good a time?"

"Worse. Gabriel had to pretend to be a Mytanar."

Prince Bartholomew Islands National Football Team

GOALKEEPERS

Albert Joseph, 16 years old, Wolstone City STARTER
The son of Robert Joseph, who is playing in goal for the Bartholomite Futsal team. He is probably one of the most talented sportsmen to have come out of the islands, despite only being 16. He is quiet and desperate to live up to the reputation is father set, but it seems as if he's going to do exactly that.

Wayne Hunter, 26 years old, Wilfred Island United
A painter and decorator who received a letter through the post asking him to attend the tournament. He has never even heard of half of his team-mates and lives on the isolated, Wilfred Island. His level of talent is relatively unknown and if he gets a chance to play it will very much be a surprise package.

Viktor Elias, 45 years old, Uizasd and Crexz Independence Sports Club Veterans (Megadia)
Now playing for the veterans of the Uizasd and Crexz Independence Sports Club, the senior team have qualified for the Series B Champions Cup and he watches as many of the club's senior matches as he can. It somehow slipped out that he had a Bartholomite grandmother and the coaching staff jumped at the opportunity to include him their squad despite him playing his club football against 50 year olds.

DEFENDERS

Benedict Fuller, D LC, 28 years old, Free Agent STARTER
Can't find the time to play for a club as his accountancy job is very demanding, but he makes time to play for the national team when he can, whether it be futsal, beach soccer or outdoor football. He is reliable and very gentlemanly on the playing field and will always try his hardest.

Steven Garrett, D/WB L, 18 years old, Wolstone City STARTER
A very attacking, unpredictable full-back that can also play at wing-back. He enjoys pushing-up and creating goalscoring opportunities as well as making crunching tackles. He is very confident despite his young age and relative inexperience.

Daniel Kolschreiber, DC, 31 years old, Free Agent
Yet another free agent. He has an obvious lack of pace and natural talent, but he can play the game to a decent standard. Probably here to make up the numbers and he sees football as only a game, so his performances may appear half-hearted. However, he is a jolly character and helps lighten the mood in the changing room and training sessions.

Taylor Charleston, D RC, 28 years old, Oldbridge Rovers STARTER
Another relaxed character, but trustworthy and reliable when called upon. Underestimated by many and is probably capable of a lot more than what he's shown previously, now is his chance to prove that.

Markus Fuchs, DC, 16 years old, Uizasd Daredevils (Megadia) STARTER
Potentially world-class centre back that is constantly looking for a move abroad to a much bigger club. He is however, in the youth setup of one of the biggest clubs in Megadia. His level of talent provokes a lot of arguments because he is only 16 and other squad members find it highly embarrassing to be rated lower than a teenager but he is determined and has a brilliant future ahead of him.

Alex Christian-Daniels, DR, 24 years old, Wolstone City
Unambitious and a reasonably average footballer. Popular with the coaching staff because of his obedience, but there isn't really anything about him that stands out, which is possibly the reason why he doesn't receive much media attention.

Neil Adshead, D RC, 33 years old, Prince Bartholomew Islands Armed Forces Football Club
He has a reputation as a hardman and once broke the nose of an opposition player for diving, this is because of his family's proud army heritage and he has already done 13 years of service himself. The only positive you can take out of this really, is that he will be terrorising the oppostion instead of you...

Ash Moore, WBR, 23 years old, Matsby Town
A stylish, attacking wing-back. His attacking mentality can sometimes cause problems at the back, when he doesn't decide to track back or doesn't bother to mark. His laziness is something that will need to be addressed by the manager immediately.

MIDFIELDERS

Prince Bartholomew Megadia II, M/AM RLC, 22 years old, Kings Valley Diamonds (Megadia) Captain STARTER
Is subject to a large amount of jealousy and bullying within the squad because he is the Emperor of the Prince Bartholomew Islands and the Prince of Megadia, but he shrugs it off with is flash, silky skills and tricks. Known affectionately as the Magician by fans, he is the driving force behind the team and is clearly the best player.

Filippo Martini, DMC, 30 years old, Astillero (Tamarindia), STARTER
He plays for the C team of Astillero, one of the biggest clubs in Tamarindia, and has remained a fans favourite ever since he was a 19, despite only playing 108 games for the club in 11 years. He is a friendly character and he plays football with a selfless, determined attitude.

Julius Meier, M RC, 25 years old, Oldbridge Rovers,
A hugely arrogant character, that plays football with a large amount of contact. He is affectionately known as "Gladiator" by fans and team-mates alike and last season he received 4 red cards.

Ronan Cameron, AM L, 29 years old, AFC Hadford STARTER
He is creative and selfless; he prefers to pass rather than shoot and is very popular amongst both players and fans. He is also very intelligent and as a doctorate in social policy from the University of Wolstone.

Carlton King, MC, 25 years old, Wolstone City
Very quiet and innocent off the pitch but aggressive and commanding on it. He was born in Djocaranga and regularly visits the country whenever he has the chance. He is a tough tackler and is very good at shooting from long range.

Abdoulaye Emmanuel, DM/M LC, 17 years old, Zaire-74 (Zenega), STARTER
Has the potential to develop into a solid role within the team. His family have expressed discontent at him representing his country of birth but he doesn't care as he is a confident, independent person that is a natural leader. He has the potential to be far better than Prince Bartholomew Megadia II but playing for the Prince Bartholomew Islands may limit how far he progresses as a footballer.

Jason de Cruz, MC, 24 years old, North Lominton Athletic
A decent midfielder at club level, but he has a lot to prove on the international stage. Just missing out on a place in the Bartholomite futsal team, he has since worked hard for his chance in the World Cuppet, but can he justify it?

Michael Robertson, AM R, 35 years old, Free Agent
Not the most talented player in the squad but he works hard and does all he can to make sure the team win. Many fans are hoping his age and apparent lack of fitness doesn't become a barrier and stop him performing how he used to.

Joshua Rees, DM RLC, 16 years old, Wolstone City
He has all the qualities required to be a good defensive midfielder; combative, determined and a good tackler. His short temper may however, prove to be an obstacle in allowing him to become a better footballer. He is a 'raw diamond', he could either be terrible or amazing and the whole of the Prince Bartholomew Islands are hoping he's the latter.

STRIKERS

Kurt Richter, ST, 30 years old, Wolstone City, vice captain, STARTER
A natural leader and goalscorer. He has been the golden boot winner in the National League a record 6 times. He is everybody's best friend and a party is not complete without the short, stocky striker.

Relâmpago, AM RLC/ST, 24, Estudiantes (Tamarindia), STARTER
Another Tamarindian import, this time it's the stylish striker, Relâmpago. His name's literal meaning is "Lightning" and his full name is João Ruben da Silva Cristiano. He has more tricks than any magician in the world and there is a massive rivalry between him and Prince Bartholomew Megadia II. He sports a garish, pink mohawk and two earrings in each ear and his girlfriend is a supermodel. He is hated by his team-mates but loved by fans for his skilful play and his flamboyant lifestyle.

Jermaine-Curtis Fitzpatrick, ST, 29 years old, AFC Hadford
Your average club striker, gulps down the beer at the local pub after every match and feasts on sausage rolls at half-time. It would be an understatement if you said this guy was fat.

Nicholas Richardson, ST, 18 years old, Tonville Town
He is relatively unknown and was a last minute addition to the squad. It is rumoured that the manager spotted him playing football with his mates at the park and asked him to train with the squad. It will be interesting to see how he performs...

Nickname: The Princes
Demonyms: Bartholomite
Preferred Formation: 4-2-3-1
Manager: Laurent Balaban
Assistant Manager: Ronald van Bommel
Coach: Ross Hatcher
Captain: Prince Bartholomew Megadia II
Vice Captain: Kurt Richter

Manager: Laurent Balaban, 41 years old, ex-Pocoan goalkeeper & Port Los Renato manager
A goalkeeper that never got the chance to prove himself internationally but had a good career playing in the Nethertopian football leagues. He pays particular attention to detail and is a perfectionist as well as being very disciplined, which will be useful for keeping the likes of Neil Adshead and Julius Meier in check. He had a brief stint managing Port Los Renato before taking up the role as manager of the Prince Bartholomew Islands national team.

Assistant: Ronald van Bommel, 46 years old, ex-Devon Bay Seals player, 1 cap for Polar Islandstates
Never an outstanding player, but he has always been a hard-worker and he has waiting for the opportunity to do something amazing in his footballing career but never had the chance as a player, only earning 1 international cap for Polar Islandstates. He is seen as the perfect mentor for Abdoulaye Emmanuel as van Bommel also played as a defensive midfielder. van Bommel is also receiving a lot of attention from the Polar Islandstates media as this is his first venture into coaching.

Coach & Scout: Ross Hatcher, 68 years old, ex-Treyfield Rovers player
A prolific striker in Treyfield's glory days, has done a bit of non-league management in Megadia and managed Wolstone City in the Prince Bartholomew Islands. So after plenty of managerial experience at club level, it is thought that the time has come for him to take to the international stage and this is the perfect opportunity to do it, despite the fact that he will only be a coach.

Pontinurii National Team

The team from the tiny city state which clings to the southern island of Mytannion. The island called Nasto - the city of skyscrapers somehow manages to have a 10 team league in a land area of approximately just 305 square miles (790 km), the city-state is also extremly densely populated - with an estimated 8,175,133 people living in the city. The city is known for its massive economic significance to both Mytannion and south-west Rushmore and the Goose Coast. It is massively multicultural, taking parts of pretty much every culture in Rushmore and mixing them into one. It is estimated that as many as 800 languages are spoken in Pontinur - making it (probably, although we haven't done enough research to know for sure), the most linguistically diverse city in Rushmore and possibly the world.

The city-state has a vibrant atmosphere at all times - it is a loud, proud place - the people are brash and the massive capitalism in the city is evident, everyone cares about themselves and that is about it. Everyone is trying to get ahead of everybody else. Hopefully the team will be able to work together, but that could be too much like socialism! Hmm.

Starting XI.

GK: Milan Aling, 1950 Nechin, aged 26.
Lad from the Nechin district, works day-by-day as an office worker in one of the big tower-blocks which are ubiquitous with the city-state. One minute it is docks and then it is straight to the sky-scrapers, quite simply. Milan Aling has good reactions, but is dodgy when crosses come in on-top of him.

LB: Meine van Agteren, Bayreuth Hof, aged 25.
He's a docker, so expect some strength and toughness from this guy. He won't be afraid of going in hard and probably enjoys a bit of leg-breakery, he's one of the deprived, poor people of Pontinur and so has probably turned cruel over the system which has left him poor. He could be a bit mental and possibly quite dangerous.

CB: Nicolaas Sanna, Hogeplaats, aged 29.
He owns a small business on the steep hills which Pontinur back onto and the top of these hills is the border with Mytannion, simply. His business is basically a tourist sort of thing, taking people on walks around the hills - showing the beauty of them etcetera - they are certainly a welcome break from the oily, polluted main streets of Pontinur. Sanna is a shrewd man, so expect good decision from the centre-back.

CB: Hubrecht Dircksen, Pontinur City United, aged 32.
He works in the Pontinurii Stock Exchange. An exciting job certainly, but if he makes mistakes in this role he'd probably wish his footballing skills were a bit better than they are. He had a few shares on the stock market but sold them off and is now just an advisor, basically - but he has plenty of cash and it was his money that paid for the team kits. He did take risks on the stock market when he was younger so expect risks when he is defender - he'll often leave his position to go forward on corners and smash home headers.

RB: Cobus van Laar, Hof Kickers, aged 26.
He's very quick and ran the 100 metres at youth level for Mytannion - before his family moved to Pontinur. His father is a lawyer - a very bigshot one too, with him taking some of the biggest cases in Pontinur - the cases in Pontinur are usually between massive businesses too, so he pockets decent amounts of money. The lad's father is a lawyer, so we expect to see some justice and some hard but fair tackles from van Laar.

DM: Lammert Baardwijk, Pontinur City Rangers, aged 24.
Tough tackling, but very creative passer. After all, he is an artist. A street one anyway, you know - the ones who literally do stand there on the street, paint stuff and then sell it for little amounts of money. Baardwijk is well-off though, his family have money, lots of it. He is the heir to a real estate empire, basically - but was inducted into an academy for problematic kids who have rich parents - because of his alcohol and drug use, which his father wasn't too happy about. He is an artist, so expect some creativity in the middle of the park - but he has also had a troubled past, so there could be some off-the-field problems.

CM: Matthijs van Schorel, FC Axel Heiburg - Polar Islandstates, aged 23.
Well, he is certainly the player they'll be relying on to carry them onwards. He is their captain and there is a reason for that, he's played for Atletik Thessia and has now set-up in the Polar Islandstates, playing for a club which are certainly looking upwards. He's a very determined player and accelerates away from defenders brilliantly, although he isn't the quickest player ever. His passing is great, his pinpoint accuracy is basically his best talent - with him being able to thread a player though from anywhere, his shooting being pretty much the same too.

CM: Radboud Abbink, Meerstad Torenweegschalenblok, aged 21.
Abbink is from the poorest part of Pontinur and it is probably only natural that he represents the team from that area. He has won the Bovenkantliga with his club and is a player who plays similarly to Matthijs van Schorel - except he is probably a bit quicker and probably enjoys getting forward more - not being as good as van Schorel defensively. He is a good example of a goalscoring midfielder, as he arrives late into the box to smash goals in.

LF: Jozua Amzing, Nechin FC, aged 22.
Bags of pace, is probably the best way to describe Jozua Amzing - he is truly quick, he breezes past defenders brilliantly - with his combination of speed and close control making him a challenge for any defender to defend against, really. His finishing isn't brilliant though - he's mainly the provider for the other strikers, he doesn't score many but that isn't really his game. His crossing is really what makes him.

CF: Constantijn Offermans, 1890 Hof, aged 25.
Offermans is a good centre-forward, a top-class striker. He wants a move somewhere new really, he's strong - has a bit of pace and is a good finisher, he's great in the air - which is the main thing though. The crosses from Amzing and Nelissen will be great for him as he dives onto them and heads home - which will hopefully happen several times through the Cuppet - but we'll have to wait and see, only time will tell, yada yada.

RF: Martijn Nelissen, Orca Zeoog, aged 26.
Creative winger who likes to cut inside and use his favoured left foot to deliver a cross or a shot - with both being capitalised on a lot during the Pontinurii Bovenkantliga season. He scores a lot in Pontinur, but this probably won't translate to the international stage - at least not in the same numbers anyway, he should still chip in with a couple.

Substitutes.
GK: Anton Skimpes, Bayreuth Hof, aged 24.
LB: Eden Paarlwit, Hogeplaats, aged 20.
CB: Masters Tinople, Meerstad Torenweegschalenblok, aged 28 (Djocorangan with Pontinurii citizenship).
RB: Sejad Toriwatz, Hof Kickers, aged 22 (Mytanar with Pontinurii citizenship).
CM: George Ffedner, Orca Zeoog, aged 23.
ST: Dennis Kampberg, Meerstad Torenweegschalenblok, aged 18.
ST: Buriz Olgyakimpovich, Meerstad Torenweegschalenblok, aged 20 (Mytanar with Pontinurii citizenship).

Aquillian National Football Team

Manager: Alfredo Herrera (54 years old)
Assistant Manager: Sergio Galindo (50 years old)

The men in charge were formerly a central midfield partnership at Rahobi United, where they won four back-to-back league titles. Their understanding borders on telepathic in the dressing room as it did on the pitch, and Herrera's tactical nous is complemented perfectly by Galindo's ability to read people.

Herrera's tactical philosophy is largely an attacking one, although his formations can be somewhat confusing for non-Aquillish fans, due to their often unorthodox setup. His preferred formation (the 3-3-1-3) sometimes resembles what many would call a 3-4-3, but his interpretation means the central midfielder is essentially a destroyer, flanked by two wing-backs, with a linking playmaker type between them and the front three.

The Squad was selected largely from the domestic league, although an Aquillish squad could easily be formed from King's League players. When questioned on the reasoning, Herrera pointed out that the King's League is a league focused on physical attributes -- a debatable claim to say the least, and perhaps a subtle dig at the Osarians -- which means many who play there are not necessarily suited to the high-tempo, technical football he intends to have his side play. He also alluded to what man Aquillish believe to be a "tribal" culture within King's League football, which makes it difficult for players on rival teams to co-operate, even for their nation.

Despite his criticisms of the Osarian league, Herrera chose to name Hastmead Diamante custodian Pablo Sirici as his captain, claiming that "he plays for one of the few Osarian teams who play a style suited to Aquillish players, and he is very intelligent so he can help me coach from the back." This is a radical approach for a coach in Aquillian, where a highly conservative attitude seemingly pervades all aspects of life. Pablo Sirici welcomes the extra responsibility, and the manager's attitude toward the players; "it is nice to know the manager trusts you to make the right choice, because this means he has faith. It means he believes you have enough knowledge and skill to not need to be told all the time. This is something I learned from Mr Sahota in Hastmead. When I first came into the first team, he asked my opinion a lot, to make me think. Mr Herrera is the same."

The Football Association of the Dominion of Aquillian (FADA) are expecting little from the national side, and merely hope that the team's performances will showcase the nation's most talented players, perhaps leading to increased exposure overseas. As it stands, the League of Aquillian is only broadcast in Osarius and Aquillian, and not very extensively. FADA hope an assured display will increased interest and allow them to push for greater funding.

My opponent, if they RP first, may do anything but kill my players/coaching staff. If you decide to injure a player, let me decide the severity, please. Other than that, anything goes. You're dealing with a tiny, conservative, capitalist island nation still pretty pissed at their heathen, socialist overlords, if that helps.
President: Horace Daley | Population: ~24 million | Capital: Genesia, Centrale

A moderately conservative, somewhat-religious nation with a lingering resentment for Osarius, their former colonial oppressors.
If you want a RL reference point, this nation is supposed to be a cultural, social and political mélange of Mexico and Jamaica.

I will sometimes RP in an approximation of Jamaican Patois. Apologies in advance ;)

I mistakenly called Sao Carmona and Cabanas as sub-national entry, while it is a protectorate. If it's classification could be changed, that would be great, but if it's too late, that's okay.

Hús Hreindýr
Image

The players on this team and those responsible for putting it together are only here because they tricked the other three Hús of Bleak Rock into thinking they weren't going to take part. The inter-Hús football matches on Bleak Rock were a long held tradition, though they haven't taken place since the formation of the Duke League. It was the intention of all four Hús to enter the cuppet therefore, to maintain their fierce tradition of the four warring Hús of old Bleak Rock...

Until Hús Hreindýr talked them out of it and applied on their own behind everyone else's back, that is...

Most Blockheads are very noble and honour-bound people, and those with national team caps will have decided that to represent their Hús here after how they applied would not be the right thing to do, and have all declined their invitations. Almost all the players are drawn from the Hreindýr clubs of Hreindýrsal Stríðsmaður, K85 Járn Virkaroy, and Glidi Hreindýrsal, though some of the younger and more up to date players are going against tradition to sign for clubs at other Hús these days, a decision still treated with suspicion by the older members of the group.

A decent performance here would be the best way for the Hús to earn bragging rights over the entire island for the forseeable future, but don't let Shaan Magerin's heroics with the national team trick you - this lot aren't that good.

The World Cuppet is set to kick off tonight, with Aquillish manager Alfredo Herrera handed a useful advantage. His Aquillian side have been handed a bye in the first round of games, which allows him to scout out the opposition by watching other games, perhaps enabling him to tinker his tactical approach leading up to the islanders' opening fixture. Our insider suggests that he will have eyes on both Group E matches taking place tonight, thanks to his assistant Sergio Galindo, although some have considered it a telling sign that he has chosen to attend the clash between Hús Hreindýr and Sportgirls himself.

In some ways, this makes sense, as the two nations have more recognisable connections and/or reputations within football than Santazuela or Slovekistan. Through his actions, it could be seen as Herrera identifying them as the teams he considers a threat in the group stage. However, Rahobi United manager Carvel Hayles believes it could be the opposite. "Alfredo is a clever man, he knows he can probably get more information on Sportgirls and Hús Hreindýr than the other two, so his attending this match is probably not something we should read too deep into." Hayles told us. "I think he perhaps has more people attending the other match, to gather more information. I know FADA doesn't have a massive budget, so there won't be many non-playing staff, and it wouldn't surprise me if some of the first team were attending the game with Galindo."

While this suggestion cannot be confirmed, it does seem a logical course of action. Rather than have the team study the miniscule amount of video footage at their disposal in the team hotel, or undertake additional practice sessions, Herrera does seem the type of manager to employ such methods. Particularly considering his appraisal of the tactical awareness of captain Pablo Sirici.

Back in Aquillian, however, FADA have announced that the League of Aquillian may be expanded in time for the 2193-94 season, moving from the current ten team format to twelve teams, in an attempt to further boost potential for the overseas markets. The problem at the moment, however, is finding buyers for the league's proposed expansion franchises, without resorting to overseas investment. A spokesperson for FADA admitted that they are already considering foreign investment, but would not divulge any further information on potential investors.

If you want a RL reference point, this nation is supposed to be a cultural, social and political mélange of Mexico and Jamaica.

I will sometimes RP in an approximation of Jamaican Patois. Apologies in advance ;)

Indecent Invitational For Irredeemable Insurgents!

As some of our readers may well be aware, thanks to our recent and completely accurate coverage of it, the first edition of the self-proclaimed "World Cuppet" is soon to be held in the Federation of Polar Islandstates. Unaffiliated with the WCC, and indeed not supported to our knowledge by any major FA, the competition's policy of accepting teams of violent secessionists (under the guise of "sub-national entities", as if that was a thing) is a direct affront to the sovereignty of all States, and Astograth in particular.

Thankfully, the FAF has taken to heart our wise suggestions and imposed harsh sanctions upon the delusional separatists who wish to attend this pathetic tournament. No tickets for it will be sold on Astograthian soil, all direct flights to Franz Josef City will be suspended for a good week or so, clubs are fully in their rights to prevent players from leaving and those who do at last manage to arrive and join their squad will be forever disgraced and prevented from ever again being called-up for the national team. Spit and possibly severed pig heads are also guaranteed to rain down on them in all future domestic encounters. Drastic measures for average times, as we like to say at The Rumiatzi Sentinel.

What, you want a run-down on the participating teams? We'd be doing them a mighty great favour, reporting on their little plight, and so we will not allow it. Of note, however, is the return from retirement of that fossil Anko Martikorena, Laurgain "Survivorman" Erlis' management of Ituraitz and the shocking betrayal of Egerdi Bordato, who delighted us throughout the qualifiers for the past two World Cups and has now revealed his true, hell-spawned colours.

Dear readers, though usually against our policy, from here on out The Rumiatzi Sentinel will not cover the World Cuppet. Encouragement is the last thing this farce needs.
