Introduction

Welcome! The Voralberg Masters Cup is the second international tennis tournament hosted by Thatius, and the third tournament of the year for the International Tennis Association (ITA.)

Venue

Image

Recently renovated, the Royal Hollow Tennis Club will host the Voralberg Masters Cup. The club is located in Eisenstadt, a city in the province of Voralberg. Currently there are 18 courts available for matchplay, including two stadiums. The first, named Daniel Subeski Stadium, shown above, has a capacity of 16,700 spectators, and has recently been re-built and increased the seating from 12,000. Next is Ana Elovic Stadium, and seats 11,500 people. Next, in decreasing size and capacity, comes Jan Fahjar Court (8,900) Grandstand (7,500) Court 5 (2,300) and Court 6 (1,000.) The other twelve courts will be used if needed for initial matchplay.

Format

Due to some nations wishing to withdraw their players from the ITA, or having a nation in the rankings that has ceased to exist, the Voralberg is short a few ranked players. While we have every intention of filling up 64 spots, we have more than 64 players signed up per category in the ITA. That is why there will be a qualifying draw in order to make sure that unranked players will have the chance to play in the VMC, and also to make sure that every player gets a shot of at least accomplishing something.
The numbers of players per category varies, but currently there are 36 women and 37 men who already have direct entry into the VMC because they are ranked. Other nations who are registered for the ITA have been notified and most of their players have been entered into the qualifying draw. Since there is not an event amount of players, we expect to have 36 women directly qualified for the draw, 16 who will qualify, along with 12 wildcards. And with the men, since there are 37 who are directly qualified, there will be 16 who will qualify, and be 11 wildcards. Someone who receives a wildcard is not entered in the qualifying draw, because of the insufficient room, but they will be entered in the main draw.
The tournament is single-elimination, so once a player loses, he or she is out for the rest of the tournament. Note that all entries are not final until September 30, 12:00 PM CST, so any nation that wishes to withdraw a player must notify me by then. Another player will take his or her position

Interest in the Voralberg Masters Cup is surprisingly low in Megadia as tennis viewed as an elite sport that is played by the Upper-Class citizens and royalty. As a result, the MLTF (Megadian Lawn Tennis Federation) has put in a bid to host their own tennis tournament to hopefully increase popularity of the sport in the nation but it is expected that the tournament won't influence the public's opinion of the sport as there are many other sports that are currently more popular in Megadia such as, Soccer, Cricket, Rugby Union, Gaelic Football, Hurling, even Basketball, Baseball and Hockey are more popular than tennis, so it's going to be a very hard task for the MLTF...

The Benry Times
Voralberg Masters Cup Starting Up
by Rich Wharf
The Voralberg Masters Cup, a prestigious tennis tournemant is going to start soon. Top Beldonian Tyrone Gehringer will be facing Igor Rufus, and number two Judge Warlord will be taking on Ivo Kurata. Though the field is wide open, both have a reasonable chance to win, though the chances are lower for Warlord. The veteren injured his ankle last year and has been having a bit of trouble getting back to top form. In this time, Gehringer passed him as Beldonian number one. It will be exciting to watch these two stars in action.

Judge Warlord walked from the court to his car silently. "Keep that ankle iced!" he heard from behind him. It was his longtime trainer, Joe Brudling. The well meaning trainer didn't know how little Judge wanted to hear those words, a reminder of his loss. After coming extremely close to winning the first set an winning the second one handily, Judge's often problematic ankle had blown up on him midway through the third set. He went on to lose the set. Remarkably, he won two games in the final set, but his ankle took away his decent chance of winning.

He started up his car and drove to the airport. Tyrone Gehringer, his countryman and rival, had won his match today, and would be advancing to the tournemant. Though sticking around to watch would be sportsmanlike, Judge couldn't do it. Tyrone had taken the number one ranking in Beldonia and many of his fans. The dislike between the two of them had always been palpable.

The Benry Times
Beldonians at Voralberg Masters Cup
by Rich Wharf
Tyrone Gehringer got off to a slow start in his match against Ryan Marino yesterday, but his game quickly took off. After losing the first set, Gehringer went on to win the next three, shutting Marino out in the third. The Beldonian number one will play Peter Fule in the first round of tournemant play, and he isn't afraid of the challenge. Says Gehringer, "I got momentum and I never looked back. I'm on a hot streak right now, looking to get the world number one. Peter Fule, you better watch out for the G-Dawg."

Gehringer's victory makes him the second Beldonian man in tournemant play. Kelly Mason, the eighteen year old from Gerace and Beldonian number two, will be playing Colton Hokan in the first round. Quiet and passive, Mason lets his play do the talking. He did not have to play in the qualifying round, even though his second to Gehringer is a distant one.

Judge Warlord, on the other hand, will not have the opportunity to play in the tournemant. The savvy veteran was playing well Ivo Kurata when his constantly injured ankle acted up on him. He was not able to recover and lost the final two sets. A clearly disappointed Warlord declined comment.

Fans of Beldonian women's tennis could rest easy for the past few days: all three eligible players avoided the qualifying round and were automatically put in tournemant play. However, two of them will play in the first round, drastically cutting the Beldonian chances of winning. Beldonian number 2 Darrah Johnson and number 6 Jillian Macks will duke it out in the first round. Johnson is favored, but most Beldonians would be happy to see incredibly popular Macks win. Beldonian number 1 Lily Collins will play Michelle Estes in round 1 and is favored.

Preview of Day 1 of the Voralberg Masters Cup

With the first matches of play today starting in approximately two hours, let's get a preview of some of the best matches to come. We'll take a look at players competing at home, any upsets we think might happen, and other information you might want to know.

Alright, first match on Daniel Subeski Stadium is the number one seed from Bergnovinaia, Stanley Charles. He plays the qualifier Filip Buduru Junior of Tonarius. Expect a short match, as Charles is surely in form, and will have no trouble dispatching the qualifer.

Thatian Wild-Care Marko Kreuzic was given special entry into the Voralberg Masters Cup, after he convinced the tournament organizers he was worthy of playing on an ITA-level event. He recently topped the junior field at the local Thatius Open, a tournament to determine the rankings of the top Thatian players. They are very consistent with the ITA rankings as well. Kreuzic will definitely have a tough match against the player from the Andromeda Islands, Cannon Rooks, who is also the 13th seed. Don't expect this one to go the distance though, as Kreuzic played six matches this week, and probably will be exhausted an no where near the level of Rooks.

Another home favorite, Bradley Karajavic, will play Rupert Jackson of Freezingland. After a solid performance at his past few tournaments, including the Olympics, Karajavic is sure to dominate this one. Since starting with the National Sports Training Program of Thatius (NSTPT), Karajavic has improved his game tenfold. Not only is his endurance up, his strokes have much more on them, especially his forehand. He'll try to utilize his favorite shot, the down the line backhand, in order to score a few winners against Jackson.

Playing against someone across the pond isn't exactly appetizing in the first round. 11th seeded Theron Odijius will play Blake Sabachi of Ithadi, who was given a wildcard entry into the tournament. Both Thatius and Ithadi have had a constant rivalry for years, since the two nations are in the same region, and are practically brother nations. After some fun matches in the Olympics, the two nations are growing closer through their competition. Expect this third matchup on Ana Elovic Stadium to go far. Crowds will probably get here early just to see this match, as it's sure to provide some fire. We hope that Odijius will pull out his experience to use against Sabachi, but Sabachi likes to use the crowd's energy to fuel the points. However, we think Odijius will win in five.

Filip-who? Yeah, talk is still going on whether Filip Compagini should retire or not. The 29 year old is having a lackluster performance this season, and his form has been slumping ever since he reached the Round of 16 at the Internazionali Open a few months ago. Expect this match against Gandham Island Qualifer Rodney Kane to be a tough one, but we think this will be an upset pick.

Finally, the last match of the day on Daniel Subeski Stadium is Novak Dlouhy's match against Mathevas Urban of Saintrabina. Expect Dlouhy to have no trouble getting through, especially after his recent match-play. He reached the third round in the Olympic Games, and had a nice sprint to the Semi-Finals in the Internazionali Open. We can hope that he will continue that performance. This match will be an easy-three setter for Dlouhy.

Now, on to the women's side. We've seen a variety of players spring from nothing, especially on the last women's tournament hosted by the ITA, the Delman Tour. Let's take a look at the five women who are competing in the main draw for the women, and how they will fare in their first round match-ups.

First, Acarcia Kotomic, the veteran from Fajaravik, will play Princess Elizabeth Megadia IV of Megadia. Kotomic, like Compagini, has had a poor season. She reached the second round in both the Delman Tour and the Olympics in Cafundeu, so we will put Kotomic on upset alert. Her serve is deadly, especially the second serve with it's kick. Her ace count has also been stacking, she averages about 15 aces per match, but the serve lately has been down. Megadia might win this matchup if she continues to pressure Kotomic's serve, especially on break point. The nerves of the Thatian are not as great as her compatriots, so she might give out when she needs to focus the most.

Second-seeded Vittoria Lambadorey will cruise in her first round match. She plays Zantee Jabernal of Saintrabina, and with Vittoria's current form, she will have no trouble dispatching Jabernal. While she had a poor performance at the Olympics, her run at the Delman Tour showed that she has skill and a set mind-set to win. Not only are her forehands some of the hardest-hit on the tour, her skills at the net have enabled her to finish off the points. This match will be an easy two-setter for the Thatian.

Image

Second Seed, Vittoria Lambadorey

Don't expect a win from Ginerva Stallone in her first round match against fellow compatriot, Andrea Savic. Savic has been playing, literally, like a beast. Not only did she win the Thatian Open, she beat the number one, two, and four seeds along the way. Now she is currently the Thatian number five, and is ready to break into the top four. Stallone has been playing great as well, but I think Savic's young spirit and quickness will enable her to take away the match. However, expect this match to go all the way.

The final Thatian entered in the draw is the young Madelin Karajavic. Not only is she seeded fourth, she is coming off a fourth-round encounter at the Olympics. She plays Linda Shelley of Abcdefghijklmnopqrstuk, who is not in bad form at all. You never know, but this could be an upset in the making right here.

Other players to watch:

-Gold Medalist, Ihihir Kavevon of Civil Citizenry (32nd Seed)
-Number One Seed, Charlotte Beauford of Cosumar
-Nicole Williams of Bergnovinaia
-Stefan Baptiste (8th Seed) of Saugeais
-3rd Seed Cris Morpont of Cosumar
-Tyrone Gehringer of Beldonia
-Daniel Wymark of Chenkorya

King Wilfred I of Megadia sat in the royal box at the Voralberg Masters Cup grinning with delight as he saw both his son (Prince Bartholomew Megadia II) and his daughter (Princess Elizabeth Megadia IV) progress to the main draw of the tournament. The royal spokesman stated that "it was highly embarrassing to not see many Megadian supporters in the ground to cheer our players on," but they fail to realise the reality that is tennis' minimal popularity in Megadia. The royal family were later criticised by the majority of Megadian media for not being "down to earth".

The Benry Times
Beldonians Put on Srtong Showing in Voralberg Masters Cup
by Rich Wharf
Some of Beldonia's best tennis players represented the country in the first round of the prestigious tennis tournemant, and they did not disappoint. The shining star of Beldonia, Tyrone Gehringer, was locked in an intense battle with Peter Fule. When the match ended with Gehringer victorious, all present were happy to have witnessed such great playing. After dropping the first two sets, Gehringer came back in fine fashion to win the next three sets and take the match. Adding to the excitment was the fact that all but one set had to go to seven games. The one that did not was 6-4. Though critics argue that Gehringer is trouble because he cut it too close, he isn't afraid. "That ain't no reflection of how good my playing is. I'm Captain Comeback....that's just how I operate. Trust me, I'll be coming back from every match if I have to; I'll get to the top one way or another."

To his own credit, Kelly Mason had a good performance of his own that was similar to Gehringer's. Though it wasn't quite as intense or well played, Mason still came back after dropping two sets to Colton Hokan to win and advance. Though it was a similar match, Gehringer, of course, attracted more attention.

The women put on a good show, as well. Jillian Macks battled back to defeat countrywoman Darrah Johnson in three sets. The women, known as friends, embraced after the hard fought match. Meanwhile, Beldonian Lily Collins defeated Michelle Estes in straight sets to advance to the next round. After cutting it close in the first set, she shut out her opponent. Overall, the Beldonians did as well as they possibly could in the first round.

Preview of Day 3

Sponsored by: Voltagian Airways

After an exciting first day at the Voralberg Masters Cup, we can now look forward to day two. So many upsets we had on the first day on the women's side, but not so many on the men's. Let's look ahead and see what's coming.

Bradley Karajavic (seed: 15) will play Pedro Kohn, a qualifier. Today, Bradley will need to be on point, as he is playing someone who beat the 12th seed. Expect a lot of baseline rallies from the young Thatian, but he'll take this one in four sets.

Two wildcards will set up for a really interesting match in the 2nd Round. Kelly Mason of Beldonia versus the eager and young Marko Kreuzic. Both played really hard on the first day to advance, but only one of them will make it to the 3rd Round. Honestly, after seeing both matches they had two days ago, both deserve a chance to get to the next stage, however, it's not physically possible. We can't not honestly give a pick to this match, because this is basically a toss up. We'll go with Kreuzic because he's a home favorite.

How did he get through? Who? Oh yes, Filip Compagini (seed: 14.) Somehow he managed to pull a rabbit from his hat and win his opening match. Looks like he might be in form, but he faces the deadly Thomas Jamison of Cosumar. We think that this one might go the distance, but Jamison will pull the win, just because Compagini doesn't have the recent experience.

The last Thatian on the men's side is 4th seeded Novak Dlouhy. Not only did he secure a convincing win yesterday, he made it look like a cake walk. Today he plays another Novak, but with a different last name, Andrejevic. Who knows what this competitor will bring, but expect a nice match, especially as it's the first one of the day session on Fahjar Court.

Now to the women. Second-seeded Vittoria Lambadorey plays Qualifer Elena Petrova in her 2nd Round match-up. We think that Vittoria will have a pretty easy time with this match, so she'll probably win in three. With her superb shot selection and on the court movement, expect this to be an easy sweep.

Qualifer Andrea Savic beat her fellow countrywoman Acarcia Kotomic to claim her first ITA-level tournament win. Not only did she make a statement to the veteran, she enlightened the fans with her enigmatic shots. The 19-year old Thatian is totally unknown to most of the crowd, but was given a chance to qualify after many nations had pulled out of the ITA. Today she'll play Wild Card Denise Benavente of Tonarius. How will this one go? We'll see, but I think Savic will get this one in two sets.
Image

Andrea Savic returns a backhand down the line

Lastly, we have fourth-seeded Madelin Karajavic, younger sister to Bradley Karajavic. She plays Amilia Bogard of Mangolana, who will be tough competition. Karajavic will need to come out of the gate strong in this one, as sometimes if she does not set the mood early on, she will get behind real fast and lose. If she does find her rhythm, we'll see a variety of forehands and backhands streaming down the line for winners.

That looks like all of the Thatians in the draw as of now. Play starts soon, so good luck to all competitors!

The Benry Times
Beldonian Performance at Cup
by Rich Wharf
People have accused Tyrone Gehringer of being arrogant, but no one would ever dare to accuse him of not delivering on his claims. While generating buzz for his comeback victories during the tournemant, he didn't need to pull one off in his most recent match against Tasez Bilisar. After winning the first and dropping the second, Gehringer won the next two (including a nailbiting final) to advance again. Said Gehringer, "I'm getting better with every match. I only needed four sets this time, and next time, I'll only need three. That oughta shut some haters up."

Kelly Mason's performance against Marko Kreuzic was arguably even more impressive. The calm, young player didn't say much or show much emotion while cruising to victory in straight sets. Said Mason, "I'm just going to keep doing what I'm doing. Hopefully, I can make it far."

Lily Collins defeated Ella Muller in straight sets to advance. Muller put up a strong showing in the first set, but showed considerably less in the second. Collins' blazing serve was what really put her over the edge, as she got dangerously close to the world female record.

The only Beldonian to come up short was Jillian Macks, who lost to Charlotte Beauford in three sets. After a highly intense finish in which eight games were needed to decide, Macks went down with a fight. This leaves considerable pressure on Collins to bring home the title for Beldonia.

"You're seriously going to teach little Mila how to drive a limousine? Like; haven't you got a driver?" Anna Ka'huili asked.

"Well, in the case that our Eva doesn't reach the final of that Voralberg Masters Cup - yes. 'Cause you know my darling.." *starts whispering* "all the money we have is all Eva's, actually. The limousine, the whole house, everything: it's all bought of Eva's money. All the money she won, all the prices she earned, it's all in this house." Pernilla Danielsen answered, while smoking a cigarette. She was the mother of the famous Eva Danielsen.

"But, Pernilla, does Eva live here too? Because, what's the sense of buying a lot of stuff when you don't live in the house."

"Well, actua-..."

*telephone rings*

"actually she does not always li-.."

*telephone rings*

"Okay, well then. Pernilla Danielsen."

"Mum? It's Eva."

"Oh, Eva. Do you've won?"

"Actually it's not final time yet, mum. I've reached day three, but now I have to play Vittoria Lambadorey. She's number two of the world!"

"But darling, you're better! Like, who's better as you? You may be number 24 of the world, but well, ranks aren't everything. You've got the opportunity to win it."

"Mum.."

"Ehm, Anne, I think I'll leave the room for a second, OK?"

"Of course, Pernilla, of course."

*walks out the room*

"Eva! We need that money! Dad can't loan any more money from the Elliot's? You have to beat that Elliot too, she's ranked higher as you! Eva, don't be such a fool!"

"Mum, calm down please. I just can't..."

"Eva,.."

"do things I can't do."

"Do it for Steven then! He'll look down to you!"

"Stop talking bout Steven, cause he won't be looking down to a planet where you walk around."

"Shut up."

"You know, I'm so sorry I called you. Speak you later. Not."

Pernilla walked back to the giant living room of their house, while smiling to Anne.

"Oh well, uhm, she'll win this cup. For sure."

It's already that time for the quarterfinals! Sixteen men and women will compete for the chance to land a semi-final berth, but only eight of them can win. Who will it be? Well we will take a look at all eight matches below.

Location: Daniel Subeski Stadium
Match 1: Stanley Charles vs. Henry Braumson
Time: 11:30 A.M. (Day Session #1)
Prediction: The first match in the Subeski Stadium will be a tough one for either player. Charles of Bergnovinaia is running off as the number one seed while Braumson of Cosumar is seeded ninth. Both played excellent matches going into the quarterfinals, and defeated formidable opponents. While rankings do not mean too much in the world of tennis, they might make a statement in this match if Charles wins it. Expect Charles to win this one in five, but this might be too close to call. I think we'll be seeing a lot of tiebreaks, as both players will intend to hold their serve and cherish any chance at a break opportunity.

Match 2: Elizabeth Brown vs. Ihihir Kavevon
Time: Not before 3:00 P.M. (Day Session #2)
Prediction: After an exciting men's quarterfinal match in the Subeski Stadium, we'll gear up for Elizabeth Brown, another Bergnovinaian, versus Ihihir Kavevon of Civil Citizenry. Kavevon defeated the third-seeded Nicole Williams to reach her first ITA quarterfinal, and Brown might be out to avenge her fellow countrywomen's loss. It would have been a spectacular match to see two Bergnovinaians duke it out for a place in the semi's, but it will be just as great as we have the reigning gold medalist from the recent Olympics in Cafundeu. We'll go with Kavevon with the upset, just because of her recent solid performances against top-tier players.

Match 3: Charlotte Beauford vs. Lily Collins
Time: 6:30 P.M. (Night Session #1)
Prediction: Beldonia has produced some good tennis players recently. In fact, they have two players in the quarterfinals here at the Voralberg Masters Cup. But, Cosumar has raised consistent players who regularly make top-ten appearances, including Charlotte Beauford. Beauford, the number one seed, will need to start off the match making a statement that no player outside the top 25 can beat her. But Collins of Beldonia might have other plans. After a really strong performance these past few days, she might pull off the upset. As stated before, experienced prevails though. Beauford will take this one in three.

Match 4: Novak Dlouhy vs. Aned Hame
Time: Not before 9:00 P.M. (Night Session #2)
Prediction: Home favorite Novak Dlouhy versus the veteran Aned Hame. Fourth seed versus seventh seed. You could not see a better mach in the quarterfinals. It is also the first night match of the tournament, where players will be playing with the court lights on instead of playing in daylight. The crowd will be rilled up for this match, and want Dlouhy to win, especially since he's the new kid on the block. He has worked his way up since the Internazionali Open and the Olympics, and hopes to make a statement here too. Hame, however, has had the experience of previous tournaments, and expects to do just the same. Dlouhy has a great shot selection. His forehands can pierce the lines, his backhands can cause damage, and his agility will no doubt help him. But after a recent slump, who knows what could exactly happen. My guess is that Hame will not want to play second fiddle, and put up a big fight. Who wins this one? Probably Dlouhy, since he will have the crowd behind him. This match, though, will go all the way to five sets.

Ana Elovic Stadium
Match 1: Cassandra Christianson vs. Eva Danielsen
Time: 11:00 A.M.
Prediction: Another player from Cosumar, Christianson, has the experience. She faces the deadly Danielsen of Chenkorya, who has proved that she is a top competitor. We will see Christianson's dominance on the court, and she will win it in a tough two-set match, with both sets requiring a tie break.

Match 2: Stefan Baptiste vs. Zakk Klyde
Time: 2:00 P.M.
Prediction: The last player from Saugeais standing is Baptiste. Against him stands Klyde of Cosumar. Both players are well known and famous, but which one of them will win it? Both surely have had solid matches so far against their competitors, but Baptisite will win this one in five very competitive sets.

Jan Fahjar Court
Match 1: Mollie Elliot vs. Andrea Savic
Time: 11:00 A.M.
Prediction: What a run so far for the young Thatian! Making the quarterfinals in her first ITA tournament debut. Savic dispatched the 21st seeded Onufi and 7th seeded Stallone to reach this stage. However, her next round opponent is Mollie Elliot of Chenkorya. Savic will indeed have to play tough and go for every shot if she is to win this match and play in the semi-finals, but Elliot might have something to say about that. I think that Savic's run has gone it's way, and that Elliot will take this one in three.

Match 2: Ivan Crush vs. Kelly Mason
Time: 2:00 P.M.
Here we go: another player from Bergnovinaia and Beldonia. Two nations that have become powerhouses in sports. Crush is known for his tennis. He has competed in many tournaments, and has had stellar performances. Mason, is generally unknown by the public, and is making his ITA debut this tournament. We think that Crush will have the experience to win this one in about four sets, since it is a quarterfinal after all, and no one gets this far as a fluke. Mason has definitely showed his talent, but it will not be enough as of now against the veteran Crush is.

Well that is about it for our quarterfinal preview. Tune in tomorrow for live match coverage. Until then!

02.34 - Deltaï Airport
"Come on boys and girls, follow Yann!" Malissa said. They were going to Thatius with their students of the tennis school. They had bought tickets for the semifinal; everyone expected Mollie Elliot to defeat Andrea Savic. They were going to the match to show the children some live tennis, the semifinal of a big tournament.

03.30 - Airplane
The children, Malissa and Yann were sitting in the airplane. All the children were asking for cookies and a cell phone to call home, but they hadn't got any food and calling in the airplane wasn't possible.

"Malissa, who do you think that will win?" one of the children asked.

"Mollie of course! Who else?" Malissa said smiling. "But without any craziness, she really will. I'm not sure about Danielsen, but she has defeated the number two of the world, so she must be able to defeat that player. Kiddo's, you're gonna see some good tennis."

"I'm so excited, I'm gonna see Thatia."

"Thatius, my dear."

06.00 - Airport in Thatius

"Finally, I thought we were never gonna get there, Malissa." One of the children said.

"Sometimes travelling to another country takes long. But let's move on to our place to stay, boys and girls." Malissa answered.

9.30 - Children hotel in Thatius

"Why does travelling trough a country like this take so long?" Malissa said to Yann, sighing.

"Come on, tomorrow we're gonna see Elliot playing. I think."

"Why "I think"? She's gonna win for sure. I think."

"God damn, the match is gonna start in one and a half hour. The children are still sleeping, but you know, when we've awaked them all it's probably around 10.45. Are you sure that television is working?"

"Just wait for some minutes. If they don't want to wake up; don't wake them up. Why aren't we going to sleep to. You know; Mollie's gonna win this anyway."

...

Maybe they have bought tickets for a match of Andrea Savic.. See it this morning, on CBU1.

The Benry Times
Gehringer Goes Down, Others Advance
by Rich Wharf
It finally happened: Tyrone Gehringer, the number one ranked Beldonian man and the person who bragged that he would beat any opponent he was faced with, lost to Stefan Baptiste in five sets. Though Gehringer took two of the first three, he absolutely imploded, winning only one game in the final two sets. For a man who bragged about being captain comeback, this drips with irony. When spoken to, Gehringer said, "Yeah, I didn't play good over those last two sets. I fucked up, pardon my language. But guess what? T-Dawg's gonna be back playin' tennis at the next tournemant."

Kelly Mason, however, did win his match, making him the only Beldonian man remaining in the tournemant. In his match with David Bishop, every set was close, and every point was hard fought. These two men provided spectators with one of the more exciting matches of the year. Mason was able to close out the final set with an ace, after which he and his opponent shook hands earnestly at the net. "I'm thrilled to have made it this far," he said in a statement. "And I just have a lot of people to thank. I plan to represent our country well."

On the women's side, Lily Collins represented Beldonia well when she defeated Venus Michaelson in three sets. Though she had a relatively easy time winning the first set, the last two were hard fought. Collins, known for her famous backhand, was able to keep the hopes of a Beldonian winning the women's side alive.

With "Captain Comeback" Tyrone Gehringer's elimination, there are just two Beldonians left vying for a win at the Voralberg Masters Cup. Here are the matchups:
Kelly Mason v. Ivan Crush
Crush is much more highly ranked, but we've seen Beldonians overcome not so high rankings in this tournemant so far. It should be a hard fought match, and it really could go either way. Thanks to a slight edge on backhands and serves, I give this one to Mason.
Prediction: Mason in 5

Lily Collins v. Charlotte Beauford
Collins, the best woman in Beldonia, has impressed in the tournemant. Even so, she really isn't any match for the number one seed at this point. Though she may challenge and win some games, this probably won't be close.
Prediction: Beauford in 2

The Benry Times
Both Beldonians Advance to Semifinals
by Rich Wharf
It was a good day for the Beldonians at the Voralberg Masters Cup. Both Kelly Mason on the men's side and Lily Collins on the women's side both won their matches to advance to the semifinals. Mason defeated Ivan Crush in five sets. Though Crush took two out of the first three, Mason limited him to just two games over the final two sets in order to get a good victory. "I'm glad to have made it the the semis," he said in a recent interview. "I'm going to really try to represent Beldonia well. Hopefully, I can win." On the women's side, Collins pulled off a huge upset against Charlotte Beauford, the number one seed. Not only that, but Collins was able to beat her in two sets. This is a good omen heading into the semis. With a one in four chance to win one of the tournemants, Beldonians should be happy about their chances.

The Prediction Master's Corner

While I was spot on with the prediction between Mason and Crush, I admit it: I seriously screwed up on the Collins and Beauford match. I said that Beauford would win in two, turns out Collins did that. So I was wrong. It happens. Anyway, with both advancing, there are two matches involving Beldonians tomorrow. Here are the matchups:
Kelly Mason v. Novak Dlouhy
Mason's performance has impressed so far, and he's pulled out a few close matches. Again, this is a match that can go either way. I'll base this one on seeding, but definately don't be surprised if Mason winds up in the finals.
Prediction: Dlouhy in 5

Lily Collins v. Elizabeth Brown
I didn't think I would have to make this prediction, given the fact that Collins was up against number one seeded Charlotte Beauford. This should be a good match. Though Brown is favored, Collins has been on a hot streak lately. If she can beat Beauford, then she should be able to beat the number eight seed. I'm feeling this one.
Prediction: Collins in 2

King Reuben sat in the family room on the computer. He and his family had been away for the evening and had missed both tennis matches. He angrily looked at the computer screen. It finally loaded, and he quickly went to his sports website. Scrolling down to the list of tennis scores, he saw that the two Beldonians had come out victorious. He grinned with pleasure. This was excellent news. "Honey!" he yelled to his wife. "They both won!" He smiled wider. Things were looking good.
