The way I am making it is that since there are 36 nations, there will be six groups of six, with the double round-robin group stage taking place in the respective nations' home courts. That will act as a qualifier, and only the group winners, and the two next best second place teams, will advance to play in the actual U-18 competition, which will take place in Carasatoga for a total of eight nations making this a very competitive qualifier where the only way to get in, is to win. Those eight will compete in a single-elimination tournament until the champion is declared. Scorination will take place between 12 and 1pm EDT.
The winning nation will receive the IBC Juniors Cup:

Sarzonia Junior Stars

Coach: Dwayne Nolan (47 years old)
Nolan serves as the head coach of The Corcorran Academy, a school recently dedicated to honour an important city in southern neighbours Delaclava. The school won two consecutive state titles and three in Nolan's five seasons. Nolan's demeanour with his players is that of a kindly professor ... unless his charges don't listen.

Assistant Coach: Bryan Casey (55 years old)
Casey is Nolan's top assistant at The Corcorran Academy, serving in his first season as an assistant coach after coming out of a nine-year retirement from coaching. Casey was brought along to provide experience with developing defensive sets and his ability to coach rebounding.

Assistant Coach: Clarissa Davis (39 years old)
Davis may serve as the girls basketball coach at Woodstock High School, but she can mix it up with men. In fact, she played three matches as part of a 10-day contract with the Woodstock Warriors, even scoring 18 points in a match.

Starting line up
Point guard: 12 Damen Harris, (5-foot-11, 130 pounds, 16)
Harris may give away some inches in height to most of the kids he matches up against, but he makes up for it with speed and a sense for where the ball is going to be. He led his county in steals.

Shooting guard: 25 Jodie Lockhart (6-foot-2, 140 pounds, 15)
Lockhart plays as a big for her girl's basketball team, but she has the touch to be an off guard. Truthfully, her game is so versatile that she could play a guard position on her boy's basketball team if it weren't stacked with guards. [RL inspiration: Marissa Coleman]

Small forward: 15 Brad Hesketh (6-foot-5, 170 pounds, 17)
Hesketh has some ball handling skills and can pitch in if a team uses a full court press on Harris. Hesketh also has a bit of a bulldog's personality in him, sort of a less brash version of Charles Barkley.

Power forward: 33 Joe Cash (6-foot-7, 210 pounds, 16)
Strictly a banger, he led his state in rebounding as a sophomore and as a junior. He also led his state in ejections over the course of a season and is one shy of the state record for the most in a scholastic career. Think Dennis Rodman mixed with Larry Smith.

Centre: 22 Malc Robin (6-foot-7, 220 pounds, 17)
Robin has a bit of an outside game, which he can use as a change-of-pace against teams that expect him to play with his back to the basket. He hit five of 13 3-pointers last season. Don't call him by his given first name, Malcolm.

Reserves:
PG 4 Mike Kendall (6-foot-1, 155 pounds, 16)
G 10 Mark Love (6-foot-1, 144 pounds, 17)
SG 11 Jon Williams (6-foot-4, 180 pounds, 16)
G/F 20 Ray Matthews (6-foot-5, 185 pounds, 15)
SF/PF 21 Brett Thurmond (6-foot-7, 200 pounds, 17)
PF 24 Len Barnes (6-foot-6, 245 pounds, 16)
F/C 50 Cameron Wilkes (6-foot-8, 233 pounds, 17)
C 44 Cody Sebastian (6-foot-10, 230 pounds, 17)

Home Court: The Palestra, Woodstock (capacity 21,730)

If you RP first, you MAY:
Choose my scorers
Eject players, preferably the ones who are identified as potentially ejectable, and no more than two a game
Anything else MUST be cleared by me via TG.

Note: That although this is a U-18 Competition, the nature of Newmanistanian basketball and culture in general makes it better for us to have it be a U-16 team for our purposes. As is the case in the IBC, we are a team that likes to shoot from the outside with great frequency.

Starters:

PG: #3- Jack Zachrias, 15 (5' 8")
SG: #5-Keyshawn Davis, 16 (6' 0")
C: #34- Brett Earhardt, 16 (6' 6")
PF: #20- Vincent Stokley, 15 (6' 1")
SF: #22- Charles Monroe, 15 (6' 0")

Bench:
G: #11- Marcus Barrett, 15 (5'11")
G: #12- Todd Schaller, 15 (5'10")
C: #50- Lazarus Jones, 16 (6'5")
C/F: #45- Dwight Williams, 15 (6'5")
C: #55- Anthony Simpkins, 16 (6'7")
F: #32- Marion Stackhouse, IV, 16 (6'4")
Util: #33- Steve Nicholson, 14 (6'2")

Home Court: Arena at The Proving Grounds (Tundra Falls). Basketball Capacity: 23,250

RP Permissions:
-- No killing my players, or injuring them behind saying "so-and-so was hurt".
-- No godmodding unrealistic events.
-- No arena damage.
-- In regards to fouling out/ejections: no more then one more then you do for yourself.

YOUNG HOOPSTERS GET THEIR CHANCE

Tundra Falls- The success of the Di Bradini Cup has led to the creation of many more international tournaments intended for youngsters. Of course, with the Keisler Cup also kicking off this week in Newmanistan, we are certainly aware of the option that exists for the up and coming baseball players. If you play hockey, there’s a junior tournament, although Newmanistan has not yet taken part in that. If you look at the performance of the Rockets historically in the World Cup of Hockey, you would probably argue that entering that kind of thing would probably be a very good thing. Football and basketball have their own competitions through the NSCAA, but that’s for college kids. Now, we get a basketball tournament, one that might be looking for a catchy name, but a tournament nonetheless.

It is the “U-18 IBC Tournament”, being hosted by Carasatoga, a nation that is pretty enthusiatic about the hardwood. Given Newmanistan’s international ranking as well as some success in the NSCAA tournaments, it is likely that the Empire will be considered a favorite, but maybe we shouldn’t have too high of expectations. This is, as the name says, a tournament for athletes 18 and under, but not for Newmanistan. For us, it is a 16-and-under tournament, and that alone could put us at a disadvantage. If nothing else, it gives a convenient excuse as to why we might not be one of the best teams when all is said and done here. Why, may you ask, is Newmanistan doing this? Well, that might be more of a question that a foreign reader or fan would be asking, and not necessarily a Newmanistanian themselves. For those readers we remind you that in the Empire, the age of majority is 16, and that is also when one starts college, in most cases. Therefore, if Newmanistan sent 17 and 18 year olds, there would be too much of an overlap with NSCAA Rosters. Said National Senior team coach Phil McDowell, “I don’t think we’d need to send that kind of team to a competition when we already have the NSCAA. This is a chance for our kids to show what they got, whether they are planning to become professional immediately upon graduating from high school (the most frequently chosen route for players of a top skill level), or go to college. We had to do something where we as an Empire, could get the most out of it. Maybe they will be a little overmatched by people that are a little older, but I think you will surprised. These kids will not only be able to hold there own, but I would not count them out from winning this entire championship.” It should be a pretty entertaining tournament, and it will be interesting to see how this pans out, being a new concept. What we do know is that Newmanistan team will not play any differently then the senior team, so opponents better be prepared to defend shots that they are not used to having to cover. “Senior teams are realizing this, and it we’ll see how long it takes the junior team coaches to realize it,” laughed McDowell, “You don’t play a zone against Newmanistan. Never!”

Detailed Roster for Carasatoga U-18 Campaign

PG-#4 Evan Fisher (Carasatoga Rising 45 Rank: 14)
Age-16, Height-5'6"
Class-Jr, GPA-92.7, Class Rank-27th
Hometown/High School- Bridgeport/Kings
Top Schools- OCSU, Milita, Caroga State
Evan has been playing the game since he was 3, and has been playing in competitive leagues since the age of 5. Growing up in a nicer part of Bridgeport, Evan had many opportunities given to him, including entry into Middlebury Prepatory, one of the best basketball, and really overall, schools in Carasatoga, but he declined in order to play with his friends at the local public high school, which in its own right is no push-over high school. Evan has been playing on varsity since 8th grade, starting since officially entering high school in 9th. He is not only the captain of his high school team, which has won 4 Class AA National Championships, 1 with Evan at the helm, but also the captain of this National Junior squad. He hopes to major in International Business, and is still wondering whether or not professional basketball is what he wants to do with his life. He is an obedient kid and player, working his heart out on and off the court. He volunteers for several local charities and organizations, and day hopes to be CEO of a non-profit.

G-#9 Curtis Johnson (Carasatoga Rising 45 Rank: UR)
Age-15, Height-5'5"
Class-So, GPA-89.5, Class Rank-23rd
Hometown/High School-Rochester/Rochester
Top Schools-Martinsburg, Murray State, RCC
Curtis is an incredible player on the high school stage. He has been starting for the Rockets of Rochester High School for one year, and has already won a Class A National Championship. Because he is from a less-prestigious school he has had to fight to get in the national spotlight, but with his new title that may be changing. He is not ranked in the Carasatoga Rising 45 National Rankings because he is just entering his Sophomore year, the first year a player is eligible. He has not received offers from Tier I Colleges, but has received offers from other high schools, and is considering transferring next year. He comes from a poor family and he says his only chance at going to school is with a Basketball (or Lacrosse which he is also good at) scholarship. He has received offers from Tier I Lacrosse schools, but has not decided whether he wants to pursue a pro career in Basketball or Lacrosse.

C-#10 Sergio Nash (Carasatoga Rising 45 Rank: 7)
Age-18, Height-6'3"
Class-Sr, GPA-87.6, Class Rank-45th
Hometown/High School-Milita/South Metro
Top Schools-Milita, OCSU, Hialeah, Caroga State
Sergio is an amazing inside high school player, but is being recruited as a small forward because of his height. He is dangerous with his jump shots, and also from the three. He grew up in the South Side of Milita, and goes to South Metro Central School, a lower class public school with an amazing history in basketball. South Metro has won more National Championship than any other school in the country with 17, 5 of them coming since the Class system started in 1996. Sergio has not won a National Championship, and will be looking to do so in his Senior year. It would be the school's first in 6 years, and it would be fitting as Sergio is the school's second leading all-time in blocks and fifth all-time in rebounds, lists which include names like Jarod Jackson, Kipper Wegman, Dash Darien and Gregg Hennersworth.

PF-#6 Kyle Harper (Carasatoga Rising 45 Rank: 29)
Age-17, Height-5'10"
Class-Sr, GPA-94.1, Class Rank-16th
Hometown/High School-Ottawa/Saint Armand
Top Schools-Queenstown, Bridgeport, Caroga, Oriale, Edmonton
Kyle is the oldest of three brothers, two of which are on the team. The two's father is the legendary Ben Harper. Kyle and his brother attended Ottawa-East Benin High School together one year, winning a Class C National Championship (the school's first... by a long-shot) which catapulted them to the spotlight. Both brothers received offers and ended up going their separate ways. Kyle moved to Saint Armand Academy in Martinsburg, one of the best sports schools in the nation, and has flourished at the academy. He has received offers from every Tier I school, but is looking at the schools based on academics, not athletics. He wants to play pro basketball, just like his father, but wants to get a degree in Bio Engineering so he can design new drugs and medical equipment... on the side. He is only ranked 29th in the CR45 because of his height; which is also making him being recruited as a guard, and he is not yet ranked as a guard, which will change this year. He is entering his Senior year, and has yet to win a National Championship in the P-League (Private, Prep, Parochial) which his brother has with Middlebury.

SF-#3 Clayton Butler (Carasatoga Rising 45 Rank: 42)
Age-17, Height-5'8"
Class-Jr, GPA-90.0, Class Rank-35th
Hometown/High School-Machais/Freeman Prep
Top Schools-Freeman, Queenstown
Clayton entered Freeman Prep in 9th Grade and since has been bred to lead the Freeman University team when he graduates. He is shopping around, however. A strong player that is sometimes overlooked, which is why he is on the National Junior Team, and is interesting because he has grown three inches in one year, and so is still growing, making him a contender to be recruited as a Small Forward, and also to rise in the CR45 rankings. No National Championsip in the P-League for Clayton, but there is still 2 more years for that to happen.

OOC: A Detailed Schedule has been added to the OP.

1 and 1 start for the Abdian team

The ABK team lost their first game 80-77 to Ack Barnes, a very mysterious country. The Ack Barnes team came out strong, surging to a 50-36 lead in the first half. The Abdian team mounted a strong comeback, but fell short by only 3 points, likely due to receiving only 8 points off the bench. Jamie Juhasz led the Abdians in scoring with 24 points.

2 Hours after the Thatian team lost to Azerbaistan

Team Captain Blake Dakovic and the Coach of the Thatian U-18 Basketball Team, Andy Canas, sat down with the other members of the basketball team. Andy began by shaking his head.
"That was absolutely terrible today," he said. "I've never had a team underperform as much as you guys. But let's take it as a lesson: don't come in with high hopes."

Blake and a few of his teammates laughed.

"Coach, you're kidding, right?" said Blake, "We were destroyed today. We came in with high hopes because our team looked like one of the stars of the group. Instead we lose to Azerbaistan, who lost to Bucknia by a huge margin. We're going to lose to Bucknia, and Southern Cynocephali who beat them. Not to mention we lost to El Minas who lost to Sarzonia. So let's be frank, coach. We're doomed."

Several others bobbed their heads in agreement. The coach put his hands on the top of his head and just sat there. No one else said a word.

"So you just wanna give up?" said Coach Canas. "Is that it? We fly all the way from Thatius, your home country, just so you can play basketball and represent them, and you wanna GIVE UP!?!" His eyes looked like they were about to burst from their sockets, while a vein pulsed on his upper temple.

"I think we're finished." said Janko Zimjic, a member of the starter team. "We're not going to win against these other teams. We have no chance to beat anyone, so why even try? I tried my best today, but no one else helped. So tell me how we are going to win?"

"Well we might because we're getting a new Power Forward, Kevin Kralitz. Sorry Janko, but with that kind of attitude, you're off the team. A plane will take you back to Thatius tomorrow." replied Canas curtly. "Anyone else? No? Well, let's discuss strategy for our next game."

ARMORGAMES NEWS

Hello, I am Malcom Harrison.

Armorgames' U-18 team came out huge in their first two games. These kids played great, and they are still growing, physically and mentally.

In the first game, they beat Vassarland 70-84. Armorgames scored 20 points in the first quarter, 19 in the second, 25 in the third, and 20 in the fourth. There was nice steady offense in this game, and some pretty shut down D. It was a great performance for the first game. The team looked ready to play and that means that this team was prepared.

There is not much more I can give you about the game except for the stats. So that is what I am going to give you I guess. So, here it is.

Name Points Rebounds Assists Blocks Fouls
Nolan Kessenich 11 11 5 6 3
Rob Rattan 13 9 3 3 2
Jeffrey Grondahl 13 4 6 5 4
Brian Dimalanta 10 6 2 2 1
Marcel Swonger 17 8 9 3 0
Rod Schwery 5 3 3 0 3
Carey Fedde 3 4 6 2 2
Kendrick Erway 6 2 7 0 1
Darius Peare 2 6 3 0 0
Cliff Gurnsey 7 3 13 0 0
Dwayne Reodrick 0 3 4 0 1
Derrick Shawnt 0 4 6 0 2

So, now for Game 2.

Armorgames won again, this time beating Saranus 76-68. The team played as good as they did in the first game, and they just look really good. There is very promising things coming out of these first two games. I am honestly surprised that they have played that good.

I know some of you have wondered why Marcel Swonger has started in front of Cliff Gurnsey. I asked coach and here is what he said:

Well, Marcel is actually stronger even though he is two years younger. He is also quicker and will score more. But, Cliff is a big assist guy so we try to put he in the games as much as we can.

So there you go. And now for the stats I guess.

Name Points Rebounds Assists Blocks Fouls
Nolan Kessenich 9 14 2 9 5
Rob Rattan 5 4 7 3 4
Jeffrey Grondahl 10 8 3 6 2
Brian Dimalanta 9 9 8 7 4
Marcel Swonger 18 10 10 5 3
Rod Schwery 4 4 6 6 1
Carey Fedde 3 4 2 2 2
Kendrick Erway 0 7 7 1 4
Darius Peare 3 9 3 0 2
Cliff Gurnsey 5 2 9 0 0
Dwayne Reodrick 2 7 3 1 0
Derrick Shawnt 8 2 8 0 2

As you can see from the fouls, this was a pretty dirty game.

Armorgames is now in first place with the two wins. This looks to be a good season.

3rd place in 12th World Lacrosse Championships
2nd in the inaugural U-18 IBC.

Young Roos start in style

The first matchday saw the Young Roos meet Sarzonia in what was expected to be one of the team's toughest matches in the group stage. The match did not disappoint, with the tight match only won by the Young Roos as the fourth quarter wound down.

The first quarter got underway with both teams showing signs of nervousness. Harris from Sarzonia began to dominate Marc Coulter as he recorded two steals against his opposite point guard in the first five minutes. An early timeout seemed to settle the Young Roos, especially the young point guard who began to display his trademark passing game.

The first quarter ended tied at 15-15, with the Young Roos pulling back a four point deficit in the last minute. Two almost identical shots from the baseline by Ande Maxim combined with a block from Tonneau on the Sarzonian centre Malc Robin allowed the Young Roos to catch up the deficit. The young Sarzonian big man almost scored a three at the end of the quarter as the buzzer sounded, but the referee called that the clock had expired before the ball left his hands, much to the disappointment of the supporting fans.

The arm wrestle continued as the second period played out. The Roos began to dominate the paint; despite the best efforts of prolific Sarzonian rebounder Joe Cash, he was consistenly boxed out by Nicolas Boulanger who ultimately finished the game with 14 rebounds, many of them in this quarter. Seán Paraschas seemed to be distracted by his opposite shooting guard Jodie Lockhart, and despite the team needing Paraschas' outside threat, Steed Huot was ultimately given more minutes than usual as he seemed not to worry about getting up close and personal with the opposition in defence. The quarter finished with The Roos ahead by two, 33-31.

The half seemed to do wonders for the Sarzonian team who came out fighting in the third quarter. Harris directed his team beautifully as they went on a 7-0 run out of the gate. The Young Roos tried to pull back the deficit, bringing it back to one point before a series of stops courtesy of some strong defence in the key blew the lead back out to five for Sarzonia. The quarter finished with the Young Roos behind by three, 52-55.

The last period got underway, and immediately the Young Roos leveled courtesy of a baseline three from Maxim. The isolation play worked well as the small forward lost his man thanks to a screen in the key from substitute forward Tintin Rigaud-Drayton. The game continued with each team trading baskets, and the score was locked at 65-65 as the teams went into the final five minutes.

The Young Roos chose the best time to pounce. Stepping up their defensive efforts, they achieved defensive stops courtesy of a revenge steal from Coulter on Harris, and a tipped ball in the key that ended up with Maxim. Converting with two threes on the return plays, the Young Roos went out to a six point lead, 71-65. A time out from Sarzonian coach Dwayne Nolan tried to stem the flow but it was to no avail. The Young Roos continued to dominate the paint, and restricted the opposition to only five more points in the match. Closing out the match from the line, the team hit 6/6 from the charity stripe and celebrated their first victory at the U-18 IBC.

Coach Ronny Dacoury remarked after the game that is was an excellent performance that put them on the right track, and to start with a win over a team who he thought would be one of their main group competitors set the foundations for qualification.

Young Roos bounce again

The Young Roos of Southern Cynocephali faced a tough challenge on matchday two, as they faced Bucknia who won their first game by 46 points, demolishing Azerbaistan 116-70. The opposition came into the game with the strongest offence in the group, a threat which the Young Roos had to overcome if they were to stand a chance.

The team, led by Ande Maxim, physically out muscled their opposition as they learned from their mistakes in game one against Sarzonia. The outside threat from Bucknia was nullified, and the physical battle that emerged in the paint saw both Tonneau and Boulanger foul out. However, the early lead earned by the Young Roos was enough for them to hold on against a fast finishing Bucknia.

The second win sees the Young Roos at the top of their group, the only team not to record a loss in Group 4. Hopefully they can continue this form against their next opponents, Thatius and El Minas. Both teams, despite their less than stellar starts, are quality outfits, and the Young Roos will need to continue to play as they have so far in order to strengthen their position in the group with further victories.
