The inaugural One Week Tournament (OWT)
The Bowlers of Babbage (BOB), Mondkegloludejo, and the City of East Charleston welcome you to the inaugural World Fivepins Open, to be held at Mondkegloludejo on the East Charleston waterfront. Fivepins is by far the most popular form of bowling in The Babbage Islands, although both tenpin and ninepin versions are better known internationally.

Format
Entries are taken from mixed teams of four bowlers, two male and two female. They compete in seven events across four days. Each bowler rolls a triple, a series of three games, on each of the four days in accordance with the following schedule:
Wednesday: Gentlemen's Singles and Ladies' Singles
Thursday: Mixed Doubles
Friday: Gentlemen's Doubles and Ladies' Doubles
Saturday: Mixed Fours
The Grand Championship is won by the team that accumulates the most pins by all of its bowlers in all events combined (a total of 48 games). Gold, silver, and bronze medals are awarded to the first, second, and third place athletes in each of the seven competitions.
Venue
Here is Don Wild's mini-review of Mondkegloludejo in The Big Three:
Don Wild wrote:DW: East Charleston has a reputation as the working-class suburb of our capital city. It's where IFC Charleston actually plays inter rules, and where the FUBAR was founded for rugby union. So bowling alleys should be no surprise. But you've never seen one like Mondkegloludejo, helpfully rendered in English on the signs as World Bowling Centre. It's 60 lanes, for one thing, stretched for what seems to be forever along two parallel concourses. The north 24 lanes (fivepins, natch) are subdivided into three groups of eight, and each group has seats on three sides like a bowling stadium. Or three mini-stadiums. There are transparent side partitions floor-to-ceiling, of course, so spectators can't interfere with play. But you can sit almost on top of the action, well beyond the foul line and just a few feet from the pins. The south 36 are even stranger. Six lanes of fivepin, six of candlepin, six of duckpin, six of tenpin, six of Classic ninepin and six of Schere ninepin (whatever the difference may be) all side-by-side. Want variety? Done. Want food? How about two restaurants with stars in the guidebooks, not just a snack bar. One (Ed: Vic's Family Restaurant) is great for families, the other (Ed: Sylvia's) may be the best seafood place in the whole capital metro area. Want to party? After the leagues finish up, the light show and sound system are professional-grade. Want booze? Not here. The owners are very observant Mormons, and it shows. It's a great place for the family, and there's nothing like it anywhere else.
Scorination
The fivepins files developed by The Babbage Islands for xkoranate will be used. They will be made available after the tournament for use in existing versions and possibly future releases of xkoranate.
Entries
You need to submit in this thread:
- Names of four bowlers, two male and two female. (Don't assume that the organisers can tell just from the names!)
- An indication of which men are paired with which women in the mixed doubles on the second day.
You may add:
- A sponsor name or team name.
- An individual rating for each bowler, on a scale of 0.0 worst to 1.0 best, with the total of the four ratings not exceeding 2.4. (Where no ratings are indicated the default is 0.6.)
Deadline for entries is extended to Wednesday, 3 August, at 1000 UTC (5:00 a.m. US Central Daylight Time). This is one hour before the first squad of the singles takes to the lanes.
Puppet nations are fine, if identified as such. Organisers reserve the right to limit puppets. Your main nation may enter two teams.
About One Week Tournaments
One Week Tournaments (OWT) are an irregular concept series of NS Sports tournaments, generally for minor sports. OWTs run for one week from the opening of signups to the final competition.
An ideal OWT opens entries on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, with close of entries set to allow the posting of the first round matches, when applicable, 24 hours ahead of their scorination. OWT formats are selected to run two, three, or four matchdays. This favours individual events over head-to-head team events unless the latter are kept small.
