WELCOME TO NEWMANISTAN

Baseball fans, it is our pleasure to provide you this informational tool about the locations within the Empire that will be hosting World Baseball Classic 19 playoff games. For those of you unfamiliar or needing a refresher about the Empire, here is some important information.

– (Hard to say this one point in an IC manner, so it be presented in an OOC manner): Before the annexation of the former Secristan, in which 70% of the former countries land became property of Newmanistan, the Empire was roleplayed to be 2/3rds of the size of the United States from west to east, and the same size from north to south. After the annexation, consider it about the same size, if not a tad larger. Newmanistanians refer to the former Secristan that is now Newmanistan land as “Eastern Penthoria”.

– On the east, Newmanistan is now bordered by Cassadaigua and many of you are probably familiar with their culture. To the north is the largest nation in One Big Island, and that is BrightonBurg. They have showed up occasionally in interregional sports, and they, like Newmanistan, an a grand Empire. To the south is the Gulf of South Thumbria and some smaller nations. To the west is also some smaller nations. The other nation that participates in the Classic that is from the region of One Big Island is The Babbage Islands, but geographically, there is a bit of distance between the nations on the regional map.

– Remember that Newmanistan is an Empire, and what Emperor Michael IV says, goes. That said, his highness is generally hands-off when it comes to the people living their lives, and he extends many freedoms. Arguably, they may have more freedoms then a minority class in a democratic nations. However, don’t screw up. Law abiding citizens enjoy their life. Those who break laws find themselves on the end of strict law enforcement. Once you have a criminal record, even for the slightest offenses, you can expect to be cracked down on.

– Drugs that are normally illegal in most countries are illegal in Newmanistan as well. Additionally, smoking is banned, entirely. Even in your own home. Don’t make a mistake, or else refer to the previous section. However, as harsh as that might seem, the legal drinking age in the Empire is 16. This is also the age of majority in the country. The Emperor’s philopsophy is that alcohol should give you all the kicks you need to have a good time.

– Newmanistanians are very passionate about the automobile, and it is the origin of the national monicker of “Rockets” (rocket powered engines). As such, there is no such thing as a speed limit on any roads. Enjoy... or watch out... whichever applies. The Empire ranks in the top 1% in the world in automobile manufacturing and we are very proud of it. You will find auto racing tracks all over the Empire. Kids are able to get a drivers license at 13.

– Newmanistanians are very devout, and most consider themselves Roman Catholics. However, they are tolerant of all religions, because as far as they are concerned, as long as you believe in something, you’re ok. Those few who consider them atheists find themselves taxed greater.

– The majority of Newmanistanians are caucasian, however you will find all ethnic groups here. Discrimination on the basis of race is illegal, and the Emperor does what he can to make Newmanistan a welcome place for all races. Members of the Gay & Lesbian community enjoy all the rights of any other citizen, including the ability to marry. Discrimination on this basis is illegal as well. When applying for a parental license, homosexual couples have no different standards in which they must meet that a heterosexual couple must meet.

Now, for the Stadiums you’ll be playing in:

Stadium: Tundra Falls Proving Grounds (Capacity: 55,000 baseball stadium; 300,000 facility)
Dimensions (LF, LCF, CF, RCF, RF): 357, 368, 390, 368, 357
City Location: Tundra Falls (Southeastern Newmanistan)
About the City: Most of you probably know about the legend of the Proving Grounds at this point. If not, or if you want a refresher, here is an old wikilink: http://www.nswiki.net/index.php?title=T ... ng_Grounds)
About the Neutral Fan: Natives are very much in tune with which nations have a cordial relationship with Newmanistan, and which do not, and root accordingly.

Stadium: Empress Jessica Stadium (Capacity 88,000)
Dimensions (LF, LCF, CF, RCF, RF): 369, 392, 411, 387, 366
City Location: Pocono City (Southeast coast of “West Penthoria”.)
About the City: Welcome to the Capital of Newmanistan. It is a hopping place that has a bit of everything, including the Royal Palace. The World Baseball Classic Hall of Fame is located in Pocono City, so this is a must-stop for your fans, especially if a member of your nation’s team is enshrined. Many museums relating to Newmanistanian history, both sports and historic, are also around, and of course, there’s more then enough nightlife.
About the Neutral Fan: The locals tend root against democratic or socialistic nations.

Stadium: The Jungle (Capacity 63,000)
Dimensions (LF, LCF, CF, RCF, RF): 349, 359, 374, 365, 344)
City Location: Loudon (Northeast coast of “West Penthoria”)
About the City: Loudon hypes itself as the “anti-Pocono City”. Domestically, sports teams from the two cities have bitter rivalries. There’s a lot to do here, minus all the historic stuff. The stadium is now officially named The Jungle due to the local teams which are the Loudon Leopards. It isn’t the biggest or most modern stadium you’ll see, but it’s upkeep is second to none, and the place gets real loud.
About the Neutral Fan: They tend to just sit back and enjoy the game and let the traveling supporters make the noise.

Stadium: Jeremy McAllister Stadium (Capacity: 48,020)
Dimensions (LF, LCF, CF, RCF, RF): 375, 397, 420, 401, 369
City Location: Putnam Lake (Southwest)
About the City: The city that J-Mac built. He of course is our most famous player in the World Cup (soccer). Pre J-Mac, Putnam Lake was a small city in the southwest, but with the popularity of McAllister, many corporations set up a western base there, and the city grew almost exponentially. Today, is it one of the biggest cities in the entire Empire.
About the Neutral Fan: Much like Loudon, the fans generally do not take sides.

Stadium: Stacey Keisler Stadium (Capacity: 51,000)
Dimensions (LF, LCF, CF, RCF, RF): 377, 395, 417, 395, 377
City Location: Southport (Southwest, about 100 east of Putnam Lake)
About the City: “Party City”. Southport is home of the Empire’s most prestigious universities, and is on the coast of the Gulf of South Thumbria. It’s a vacation spot, and it’s a party spot, and therefore plenty of distractions await. The stadium itself is named after Stacey Keisler, who in our opinion, is the greatest pitcher ever.
About the Neutral Fan: Neutrals tend to root for the underdog and many are intoxicated by the sixth inning.

Stadium: General Benedict Freeman Stadium (Capacity 80,000)
Dimensions (LF, LCF, CF, RCF, RF): 361, 373, 394, 375, 362
City Location: Jessicaville (Eastern Penthoria)
About the City: Jessicaville is formerly Amherst, Secristan. It is what we renamed the city after we took it over when they ceased. This stadium is the former Monopoly Stadium. The Empire attempts to keep the Secristani history alive in the city, so there will be some sites pertaining to that that may interest you.
About the Neutral Fan: The city is a bit divided. You have former Secristanis who wish to still live according to old Secristani laws; Former Secristanis adapting well to Newmanistanian culture, and Newmanistanians themselves who relocated to the city after the annexation. Its unclear how the neutrals will act as this the first tournament to go to Eastern Penthoria after the annexation.

Stadium: Centralia Stadium (Capacity: 43,391)
Dimensions (LF, LCF, CF, RCF, RF): 382, 405, 426, 408, 393
City Location: Centralia (a bit West-Central)
About the City: The city itself has a pretty good nightlife, but that’s about it; and if you travel far out of city limits, you enter farmland pretty quickly. Within the limits, it’s like any other booming metropolis. The natives are very proud of their city. Those dimensions are not a misprint, by the way.
About the Neutral Fan: It’s a very blue-collar city, and as such they appreciate small ball over the glory of the long ball. They’ll appreciate the grind-it-out team more.

Stadium: Olympia Field
Dimensions (LF, LCF, CF, RCF, RF): 332, 351, 366, 347, 327
City Location: Olympia (Northwest)
About the City: The city has a reputation for being the home of a bunch of rednecks, and the natives don’t deny it, and are proud of it. Definitely a hitters park, it is one of the big reasons why Courtney Ratigan left as a free agent.
About the Neutral Fan: They’re just there to have a good time.

Home stadium: Farringdon Park (capacity 7,400) Please note that away fans will be allocated a maximum of 1,000 tickets and that the DH rule is NOT used
Image

Farringdon Park is the largest baseball stadium in Colmark, where even the top matches are rarely watched by more than a couple of thousand people. Based in the capital city of Fortnam, the stadium is situated on the outskirts of the city, with a large public park on one side and a outlet store on the other. While it will almost definitely be the smallest stadium used at the WBC, there should be a good atmosphere inside. There will be little in the way of modern conveniences, there is no jumbotron, no mascots, though there will be an organ player and concessions mostly selling good old Colmarkian hog roasts and mutton, but will, of course, supply 'peanuts and crackerjack'.
One final note on the stadium: it is looked after lovingly, but on a tight budget. It is slightly rickety and the changing rooms, particularly for the opposition, are tiny. The away changing room would only have space for six players in a full sized dressing room, so squeeze up!

RP permissions: I am a pretty laid back person, please TG me though if you are planning something big

Colmark's baseball players have a tough life. Semi-professionals, they shuttle between day job and baseball tirelessly, putting strain on their young families and infuriating their employers. Colmark's squad is tiny compared to that of almost every other nation, quite simply because the Colmarkian Baseball Federation cannot afford to support more players. The situation has not been helped by some interesting scheduling - just after touching down in Fortnam following a remarkable run in the Saugeais Open, where they reached the final, they were into the pre-WBC training camp. "It certainly isn't an easy life" remarks captain Richard Ashmore, "but we are bonded through the experience and we are determined to prove that we can mix it with the big boys". This will be Colmark's second visit to the World Baseball Classic, in WBC 18 they finished at a credible 3-5, having looked like possible playoff candidates for much of that period. "Believe it or not, we were slightly dissapointed with our positioning last time out" claims coach Harrison Thomas "We let a couple of games slip and could have very easily made the playoffs. There were a few mistakes that we made courtesy of never having played at that level before, and we certainly don't plan on repeating them"
Perhaps the lasting memory of Colmark's run in that tournament was the scenes at Farringdon Park, the creaking home of Colmarkian baseball. Even Will Anscombe, the director of the ballpark admits that consumer comfort is not its top draw "It may be a little more Spartan than the ball parks you get in other nations, but it has been here in its current form since 1952 so I think it is doing very well. I don't care for big stadiums with their over-commercialisation and their mod-cons, true baseball fans love watching a game here. The atmosphere is unrivalled." It is hard to dispute that, as the 7,400 fans who crammed in for each home game sounded more like 70,000 as they banged the wooden floors and yelled their hearts out, while opposing players, who squeezed into the away changing room that resembles a closet, felt a long way from home. In the words of an unidentified opposing player "I would rather play in hell than here"
Our prediction - Colmarkian baseball is surging a wave at the moment and there is plenty of momentum. If the Bears can make use of home advantage and win their winnable away games, they will reach the playoffs. If they get there - who knows?

There's a breathless hush in the Close to-night
Ten to make and the match to win
A bumping pitch and a blinding light,
An hour to play, and the last man in.
And it's not for the sake of a ribboned coat.
Or the selfish hope of a season's fame,
But his captain's hand on his shoulder smote
"Play up! Play up! And play the game!"

Azusa Uemura, 2B/SS/RF, #9, S/R. Good feet, decent glove, subpar bat.

Outfielders

Kyo Kunimoto, #58, L/L. Control pitcher whose repertoire includes a slurve, circle change, curve, and 2-seamer.
Shizuru Yoshino, #79, R/R. Relies on knuckleball and an occasional 12-6 curve to confuse batters and make them look silly, which tends to play into the mind games she likes to play.
Keiichi Okazaki, #72, R/R. Relies chiefly on fastball mixed with a couple of breaking pitches.

Relievers
Manabu Hashimoto, #86, R/R. Long reliever.

Ruadha at WBC 19

In the next World Baseball Classic, the association in Ruadha may or may not even exist. Ruadha might be part of the Commonwealth of The Babbage Islands by then. But until then, the area once described as "A Fayre lande of Passionate red-heads" has an independent association and a national team.

The national sports here are the traditional Gaelic games of Gaelic football and hurling. Yet the people of Ruadha are fond of other sports as well, "annathin' that uses a flippin' stick." That includes hockey of both stripes, lacrosse, cricket, bandy, even fencing and croquet -- and, yes, baseball.

Of the 20 ladies on the team, only 13 are redheads. Genetics work here as in other places, and recessives are still recessives. Ruadha maintains a higher percentage of redheads than the norm only because cultural mores encourage those with red hair or at least red-headed parents to pair off.

Professional sport doesn't exist. But baseball is played in all of the 29 traditional clan seats, amongst households great and small. The ball park at Wicklow actually seats six thousand and will host all our home games.

ST. CATHERINE, LYCRABON -- Once again, the Lycrabon Blue Jays return to One Big Island on the search for a title for a seventh time. Granted, most Lycrabonians would be happy with a semifinal appearance, but doesn't EVRYONE love hoisting the trophy?

After the near-unanimous disaster that was WBC 17 - held in Lycrabon - the eighteenth installment saw the sky blue and gray bounce back with yet another quarterfinal choke job. As promised, long-time power hitting shortstop Frank Thompson ended a Hall of Fame career for Lycrabon, and moved to the manager position. Consistency wasn't enough for the previous staff as the Lycrabon Baseball Committee chose not to renew the contracts of any of the coaching staff.

Syvorjin National Team

For the Syvorjin pitcher, it will be 39 year old Sungcha Lingho, who has played baseball as a pitcher since he was 11, until he was 24 in the minor leagues, and since 25 at the Thessenes Eagles, one of Thessene's 4 baseball teams. Sungcha genuinely loves his team, but at the same time, if they lose, he is extremely willing to yell at the time, accusing them of their bad skills.

The coach would be Lahung Lingho, wife of Sungcha, who was married at the age of 27, when Sungcha was only 31 years old. She played baseball since she was 18, and rapidly rose to become coach, first in Yerevan Mountains, and today, for the Thessenes Eagles. She shares a similar personality to the team, in regards to baseball, as in the fact she loves the team, but if they lose, she'll yell and force them to train harder.

The catcher would be Atoli Singh, a female who came from Eeri at the age of 26. She rapidly chose to join the baseball time, and rose to become a well-known catcher, often giving witty remarks everytime she catches a foul ball, or a strike, or even a "ball," to the humor of the local audiences. Now at the age of 36, she enjoys the game, and hopes for the Syvorjin team to win.

For the bases, the 3 brothers were known to play them together and often exchange bases. For this one, since they come from Syvori Batters, they chose to use different bases.

Douglas Chaung, who is the oldest, at the age of 58. He enjoys baseball, as much as he does to alcohol. He played baseball since he was 25, and enjoys the base, and also enjoys alcohol, which he started to drink at the age of 33. He would be on 3rd Base, for the purposes of the game.

Sinh Chaung, who is the middle, at the age of 46 would go 2nd base. He enjoys baseball as much as his brother, but hates alcohol. Despite that, he joined his team when he was 28, and hopes that the Syvorjin team would win.

Laung Dei Chaung, the youngest started to play baseball at the age of 19, and now, at the age of 42, would go on 1st base. He enjoys baseball, to such a point that his own apartment is very close to a baseball field. He, too likes alcohol, and prefers whiskey, often drinking a shot after they lost.

The umpire would be Cecil Rhodes, who is 29, the youngest player that is being sent to the World Baseball Classic. He played since he was 9, and loved to be an umpire. At the age of 26, he recently joined the Islamabad Hijabs, and is, ironically enough, a Muslim, to such a point that if he was struck out, or out, he would recite a prayer to Allah for better skills.

For the 8 position players, they would be;

Andrew Simms - Male - Aged: 40
Lois Green - Female - Aged: 70 (oldest person being sent)
Chungsei La - Male - Aged: 35
Wongdei Hyu - Female - Aged: 61
Bjorn Ali - Male - Aged: 45
Imam Sahadae Mohammed - Male - Aged: 63
Kiana Wilson - Aged: 31
Joesph Kingston - Aged: 34

The backup pitchers would be Andreas Lu, and Kingda Pei, the backup catcher would be Sungma Longchei, the backup infielders would be Tito Lily, Odin Swidzinski, the backup outfielders would be Dau Po, Mariam Green, and a pinch hitter, who would be Xahei Mowarikyel.

Syvorji News 24 - December 1, 2018

For the first time, the United Socialist Republics of Syvorji had made their debut. This is marked by a victory in socialism. In recent years, Syvorji had entered itself into WorldVision and now has entered WBC19, to ensure that communism shall work. After all, communism shall always work, and hopefully, it, as well as future tourneys can get a Syvorjin chance to form an Under-21 cup. From Andrew Howards, Syvorjin News 24, Newmanistan.

It's been 20+ years since Qazox last was atop the WBC world. Since then, the age of Cassadaigua (2 titles) and Newmanistan (4 titles) have solidly been entrenched in the mindset of the international baseball community. But as Az-cz, Milchama, and we can, unfortunately, tell you; it will not last. There are plenty of teams eager to become the next dynasty. Tarrentum, who've reached back-to-back finals, but have fallen just short. Sarzonia, who won their 1st title 2 years ago. The Babbage Islands and Delaclava, two teams that eveyone expectes to make that leap this year. Even some of the old guard could make a run, such as Tocrowkia who've been amongst the more consistent teams.

But with the 40th anniversary coming up soon, wouldn't it be great for Qazox to bring home a 4th title, and then host the 20th WBC? But first can this team get back over the hump? Will the pitching finally come around and stop being inconsistent? In the largest WBC ever, 64 teams are battling it out for the chance to say they are World Champions. But who will it be?

Will Newmanistan win their 5th title, and become just the 2nd team to hoist the trophy in front of their own fans? Or will it be Cassadaigua, seeking a 3rd title of their own? Or will someone that no one expects to win emerge as champions?

ROSTER

Starting Rotation
34 Brad Baxter (RHP): Nicksia Nighthawks Baxter led the Sarzonian major leagues in wins (17), innings pitched (172) and strikeouts (156).
18 Chris Carlton (LHP): Portland Fishermen Unlike the other lefty starter in Sarzonia's rotation, Carlton is a hard thrower, but has learned to throw a hard curveball in addition to his big, slow curve, which serves as his off speed pitch. He also throws a sinker when necessary.
27 Brian Edwards (RHP): Lexington Flight Despite the Flight's last place finish in the Incorporated League, Edwards was an 11 game winner (11-5, 2.67 ERA). He doesn't strike out many and relies on a sinking fastball to get ground ball outs.
22 Charlie Palmer (LHP): Portland Fishermen Known for having the best changeup in all of Sarzonian baseball, he was named the first-ever Jim Palmer Award recipient for postseason MVP after leading the Fishermen to a Sarzonia Series crown.
16 Josh Campbell (RHP): Woodstock Mountaineers His performance during the Cyanea Series against Delaclava's Quinniville Conquistadors propelled the young Campbell into the starting rotation to replace the now-retired Sutcliffe.

Bullpen
32 Kenny Spencer (RHP): Saugerties Streakers Spencer is arguably the best setup man in the history of the sport in Sarzonia. He has only six saves in his career, but makes a living closing the door in the eighth inning.
29 Jay Ballard (LHP): Nicksia A specialist at getting lefthanded hitters out, Ballard made only one career start in secondary school. He threw a two-hit shutout in the state championship in that start.
33 Roger Tolliver (LHP): Avalon Aeros The lefthanded long reliever for the Aeros, he led the league with most innings pitched by a reliever (79) without making a start. His 38 appearances led the league among all relief pitchers.
17 Kerry Clark (RHP): Woodstock The leader among all of Sarzonian baseball with 29 saves, Clark has a devastating curveball and fastball. He's working on developing a change up.
39 Alvin Dryden (LHP): Rypien Rhinos Dryden is the lefty closer on the national team and will alternate with Clark depending on the opponent. Dryden led his league with 27 saves.
36 Calen George (LHP): Woodstock Mountaineers George really made a name for himself during the Cyanea Series by throwing two lengthy shutout outings in relief against the Quinniville Conquistadors, including a five-inning stint in Game 7.

Position Players (starters in bold)
C 10 Fred Carlton: Grovesmont Gryphons Carlton is the best defensive catcher in Sarzonian baseball. Calls a great game, threw out 44 percent of opposing baserunners. His problem: He hit .227 with only two home runs.
1B 36 Skip Hale: Woodstock Steps in to play first base in favour of the retired Everly, who joins the Stars as hitting coach. He is expected to have some growing pains in the position.
2B 6 Dewey Griffin: Avalon The sparkplug for the Aeros, Griffin led both major leagues with 44 stolen bases and nine bunt hits. He was tied for second in the league in sacrifice hits (bunts or flies).
SS 2 Chris Spontanelli: Townshend Tigers: One of the many shortstops in the Cal Ripken mold, Spontanelli led his team with 17 homers and 81 RBI. At 6'5", he's the tallest starting shortstop in Sarzonia.
3B 9 Kate Schmidt: Bristol Bears: The only female to earn a starting spot on the national team, she hit .309 to lead her team and smacked 11 home runs.
LF 19 Tyrell Gordon: Portland Set a record for most outfield assists in college or high school baseball with 133. Had only two outfield assists this season when major league teams decided not to risk running on him.
CF 23 Drew Bradley: Avalon A speedster, Bradley is known for his graceful play in center and led his league in outfield assists with nine.
RF 24 Mark Dwight: Nicksia Not much with speed or a throwing arm, but Dwight specialises in being at the right place at the right time. He led the league with a .361 batting average.

Reserves
OF 11 Micah West Grovesmont Not the fleetest of foot, but has a rocket for a throwing arm and has excellent anticipation.
OF 7 Tyler Hunter Bristol: Can play either corner outfielder position, but his throwing arm is arguably the worst in the league. Is better known for his bat.
C 13 Mario Salvidotti Avalon: Improving as a receiver, Salvidotti led his team with 21 home runs and 89 RBI.
IF 3 Russ Fraley Bristol Handled his demotion to reserve behind Schmidt with surprising grace and honed his skills as a shortstop so he could play short, third or first. He also is learning how to play second.
IF 5 Bryan Carroll Portland Extremely valuable asset to his team, he can play any position in the infield. Could serve as the emergency catcher if necessary.

Starting lineup (with the DH)
2B Griffin
CF Bradley
SS Spontanelli
1B Hale

A tale of two Classics.

Coming into the 18th World Baseball Classic, Sarzonia were merely trying to erase the bad taste in their mouths from their first-ever failure to qualify for the postseason and their first losing record in their history within the World Baseball Classic.

Coming into the 19th, however, the mood is different. This time, the Stars are the defending champions, having battled back from a 2-games-to-1 series deficit to win the deciding fifth game against emerging rivals Tarrentum. The Stars are coming in now with no labels of best team to never win the championship.

If you ask Khalil Dennis whether he felt vindicated after becoming a World Baseball Classic-winning manager, he'll just shake his head.

"It's not about me," he said. "It's about these players and the sacrifices they made to get to the point they are now. Winning a championship is great, but it's what we do for an encore that counts."

The Stars are shooting for that encore to be another championship, but to do that, they will have to get past the usual suspects, including four-time champions and current hosts Newmanistan. There was some question whether the Stars would even be around to defend their title. Board of Governors Chairman Louis Coletti said if it were up to him, the Stars wouldn't be playing.

However, the Board voted 8-1 against withdrawing, with Coletti casting the lone nay vote.

"It was a veto-proof majority," Coletti said. "Our vote was for Delaclava to host. We're not happy with the crooked goings on at the top of the WBC."

Sarzonia has already lodged a formal complaint, but it wasn't just the Board of Governors who would have nixed a withdrawal from the competition. Lieutenant President Nicole Lewis sent a letter to the Board advising them that the Incorporated Sarzonian Government "would view with extreme disfavour" a withdrawal from the competition unless They Who Shall Not Be Named were to be hosts.

"If those people were voted hosts, we wouldn't take part," she said. "Otherwise, play ball!"

[OOC: Just so anyone who could be confused is clear, the accusations of impropriety in the voting are purely IC, although the disappointment in the results is both IC and OOC. Newmanistan is a more than capable host.]

Qazox' WBC 19 Roster

Postby Qazox » Sun Jun 19, 2011 10:06 pm

(Style modifier: whatever the max is)
The DH will never be used in Qazox!

(New players in italics)
MANAGER: Linda Werth

Starting Lineup (Bats/Throws)

CF- Tyson McGillicutty (R/R): One of the few bright spots from WBC 18, Tyson's speed proved to be a great boon to the Eagles' offense,as he easily led the team in runs and finsihed 2nd in batting average.

3B- Ashante Omante (R/L): Was on of the more consistent players at WBC 18. Werth believes that with her speed behind McGillicutty, a few more runs will come across early in games.

2B- Jayde Sinclair (S/R): Sinclair's just reaching her prime and with Holmes and Sdmar, two of Qazox' power hitters behind her, and two quick runners in front of her, if she doesn't get at least an RBI a game, then something's wrong.

C- Davis Sdmar (R/R): Sdmar's been more consistent than Holmes lately. While the power drops a bit, the overall production shouldn't.

RF- Carl Holmes (L/L): True Power hitter on team. Showing his age a bit, as his batspeed slowed, but still can bang out 420+ ft HRs. Batting 5th, he should be protected a bit more. (Will also DH in games needing a DH).

LF- Emma Flint (R/R): After a good WBC 17, struggled a bit as the #2 hitter. Still has a great arm and a quick bat, but any power she had is gone. (Will play RF in games involving a DH)

1B- Daniel Jae (L/L): A vacuum at 1st base, and suprisingly quick, Jae has added a little bit more power to his game and and showed more patience at the dish. Might be best all-around player on team.

SS- Arthur Thomas (R/R): Everything you'd want in a Shortstop, Great range, great glove and good speed. Still isn't great at the plate, but does have a good eye.

Pitcher's spot.

In Games involving a DH, Jae and Thomas will bat 8th and 9th, with DH batting 5th. In RF, batting 7th and replacing Holmes in the field will be:

RF: Carly Germaine: (S/L). Germaine replaces Hannah Carre as 4th OF, as Carre left over a dispute w/ Werth over playing time. Germaine is only 16 years old, and is still nowhere near her peak, but a quick bat, good arm and the ability to hit from both sides of the plate means she will be around for a while and will only get better.

Rotation (pitches/Bats)

#1- Michael Hunter (L/L): Earned #1 role after Jerri Werth's struggles at WBC 18. Fastball tops 90 rarely, but has pin-point control. That and two curves, a 11-5 that breaks bats and a side-arm curve that acts like a changeup.

#2- Sean Carey (R/R): Bumped up to #2 after good playoff outings, Carey has a good fastball (94-96), a good changeup and a great splitter. Has some control issues and will walk a few batters a game and might hit one or two as well.

#3- Jerri Werth (R/R): Jerri's injury-plagued WBC 18 and the recovery from it will be Qazox' biggest question needed to be answered at WBC19. Her fastball's not as fast (94-96); and the slider hasn't looked as sharp, but her circle-change has never been better. Has been working on a splitter as well.

#4- Julia Stanton (R/R): A good showing at WBC 18, Stanton has shown she can pitch at this level. Her fastball's not as overpowerting, but her sinker and slider are nearly unhittable at times. She's added a changeup as well, but it does go wild.

BENCH:
2B- Sandra Wu
INF- Mike Mazeroni
2B/SS- Mandy Brady
3B/1B- Chuck Bath
OF- Yasmine Herrera
OF- Eric Diean

BULLPEN
LHP- Charlene Iya
LHP- Issac Greene
RHP- Greg Chambers
RHP- Nathan Symthe
Closer (R)- Robert Tokadden

At a banquet hall in Pocono City, in which all participating nations were welcomed to send a maximum of four delegates too, a middle aged woman approaches the podium.

“Everyone, please rise.” The woman says. “His Majesty, Emperor Michael IV is coming. The woman steps out of the way and the Emperor approaches the podium to basic theme music while a few members of the Newmanistanian media painstakingly note who’s representation is respecting the Emperor by standing silently at attention and who is not.

“Thank you... everyone, you may be seated,” the aging Emperor begins, “I would like to welcome you to the official group draw for World Baseball Classic Nineteen. We are honored to have been chosen as hosts for this and we can’t wait to have the best baseball players in the world come to Newmanistan once again. It’s been a while. There are sixty-four participants to be entered into eight groups of eight, so we have eight pots of eight, which have been seeded in accordance to rank. It is my pleasure to have eight members of the Newmanistan Baseball Hall of Fame draw from each pot. We have chosen eight of the more modest players, so if you’re looking for Carrie Nicolette or Stacey Keisler, they are not here. I turn to Tara Stewart for pot one.”

Tara comes to the podium and announces the teams in pot 1. “They are Tarrentum, Newmanistan, Cassadaigua, Sarzonia, Qazox, Milchama, Western Cuba and Lycrabon.” Stewart draws the ping pong balls, each with the nation’s flag on them, randomly from the pot and turns to Sarah Boland for pot 2.

“Thank you, Tara. In Pot 2 we have Tocrowkia, Zwangzug, Saugeais, Churchma, Virabia, The Babbage Islands, Delaclava, and Cosumar.” The group is randomly drawn and the attention turns to Rachel Crockett.

“Great to be here! I bring you pot 3, and it starts off with Civil Citizenry, Bergnovinaia, and Silver Beach. Then we have Mantwenic, Quintessence of Dust, Cotdelapoms, Meddicia, and Sakurakoku.” The group is drawn, and next up is Courtney Lombardi.

“Good morning everyone. Next up of course is pot 4 and here we have Mytannion, Carasatoga, Altimarus, Cabric, Colmark and Chenkorya. That concludes the participants which were ranked coming into the tournament. Before the remaining nations were put in the order which they signed up, we have opted to show respect for the past history of Taeshan in this tournament and put them in this pot. Then, the unranked teams are in order of when they formally submitted their sign-up papers. There’s one spot left for pot 4, and that will go to Matting.” The group is drawn.

Brittany Wright runs top the podium quicky in an effort to still show she has good speed. She then reads off the pot 5 teams, first with a message. “I would like to welcome all of the new teams to World Baseball Classic. This is a great competition and we are glad to have you here for what we hope will be the first of many appearances. The nations in this pot are: Vitores, Darmen, Camwood, Swartaz, Jimmer Fredette, Beaverriver, Syvorji, and Ma Raque.” The group is drawn and up steps Natalie Monroe, in a more casual manner.

“Thanks Britt. Group number six includes Armorgames, Wadomia, and Michael VII. I have been told that Michael VII is not the Emperor’s future great grand-son. Also, Commonwealth of Isles, Okunion, Achlaya Santis, Southern Canuckland, and The Confederate States of America. Welcome all of you to the Classic.” The teams are drawn.

For Pot 7, up steps former relief pitcher Jessica Vauclair, who briefly tells everyone how honored she is to be here. “The teams in this pot are Chirpland, Nicole Riche, Aglorea, Dutch East India, Thrilledge, Vantelira, Arnett Mead, and Ruadha. Welcome to the World Baseball Classic and good luck to you.” The teams are drawn.

And finally, we get pot 8. Former starting shortstop Tara Cuyler gets the honor. “The final pot has the following nations: Astonysha, New Palmouth, ViZion, Camerania, Weegee and Rick Steves, Polkopia, Sahanaea, and South Bucks. It’s a pleasure to have all of you in the tournament. Best of luck!” The teams are drawn into their respective groups.

Western Cuban National Baseball Team

I'll like everyone to know Western Cuba is no longer communist, currently elections are beginning to decide if the Cuban people will vote on a Republic or a Monarchy so please don't call the team the Reds anymore if you do

Manager: #00- Jose Peterson- Entering his Fifth WBC, Petersons goal is for the new Western Cuban National Team to make the Semi Finals. Which haven't been reached yet by the Reds. The farthest they have reached in the tournament is the Quarterfinals.

Catcher: #5- Philip Castro- The best hitter in Cuban history is approaching the twilight of his baseball career. Castro has already announced this would be his last WBC appearance, and possibly his baseball career.

1st Base: #12- Andon Balk- A large number of Western Cubans retired from the last WBC, and there international careers. Replacing Devin Hilton is Andon Balk, a young 17 year old. Recently signed by the national team.

2nd Base: #69- Erik Bures- Eirk replaces Michael Thompson as the 2nd basemen in the team. He is well known in Western Cuba for being a member of the Keisler Cup 3 Champion Team

Shortstop: #13-Roberto Ramos- Ramos is a member of the International Baseball League, which consists of a number of nations. He is one of the few in the league however as Western Cuban's have attn. on different leagues for the most part.

3rd Base: #67 Arman Pletenetsky- Plentenetsky is returning to the National team after a mediocre start in the last WBC, he vows to play better in this classic.

Right Fielder: #8 Vladimir Poderni- Poderni also a member of the Keisler Cup 3 Champion Team has moved up to replace retiring RF Dimitri Augustine

Center Fielder: #16 Sasha Rogojkin- Sasha is also a member of the IBL. Like Roberto Ramos. One of the few standout players in the league that are Cuban. He has joined the National Team to replace Dante Perez who was sadly killed in the Bombing of Vladgrad by the Britannians which great fully has stopped as the war in Cuba has come to an end

Left Fielder: #6 Brody Ukhtomskii- Brody comes again into his second classic, playing outstanding in the last classic many expect him to have a good one once more.

#1 Pitcher: #18- Fredek Fenyak- Fenyak returns to his second classic, aspiring to play better than his last classic which was mediocre.

#2 Pitcher: #42- Igor Alampiev- Igor a member of the International Baseball League is joining the National Team to replace Evan Jackson. Who has decided to retire from International and League play.

#3 Pitcher: #43- Robert Beshirov- Robert is also a member of the International Baseball League who is joining the national team to replace retired George Longoria.

Relieve Pitcher #45 Stepan Nemecek- Originally #43 also but having to chance his number due to Robert, Stepan is a new comer also. Coming up from the Keisler Cup 3 Champion team to replace Tod Verlander who has also retired.

Relieve Pitcher #2 Alberto Walling- Alberto is returning to the WBC, however though like many players who have not retired he is saying this is his last.

Closer #99 Rodger Sekera- Rodger after being named best Closer by a Newmanistan Sports Analyst. Struggled throughout WBC 18. Many people believe it is from the criticism placed on him after that announcement. However though Rodger says it's all behind him and that he is focused on now.

National Journal
Breakdown of Saugeais in World Baseball Classic 19

Saugeais is back in their third straight WBC, hopefully looking to improve their early Round of 16 exit last time. But they will be doing it with out some familiar faces. Most notably on the pitching side, ace starter Jim Bochy and clutch closer Ringo Grenier both retired after last Saugeais Baseball Organization season. Taking their place on the roster is newcomers Franklin Nopro as a starter and Terry Kazmierczak at the closer spot. Franklin is a power pitcher, with his fastball topping out at 97 MPH, and Terry's slider has some of the nastiest bite on it the likes that have never been seen before. On the batting side, Saugeais lost to supreme power of Tuffy Jackson at DH and the speed and excellent fielding prowess of Takashi Honda. Taking their places are last year's rookie sensation Aaron Dairon at center fielder, whose last year won both the Rookie of the Year and the Gold Glove awards, and at the DH spot is Shawn Hamilton, who was Tuffy's backup last WBC. He possesses some of the same power that Tuffy had, but shows a little more discipline at the plate and he'll take a few more walks than Tuffy would have.

Now that the roster is set this time around, let's take a look at Saugeais's group. Group 2 consists on Michael VII, Sakurakoku, Colmark, South Bucks, Arnett Mead, Lycrabon, and Darmen Starting off with those unranked teams, South Bucks and Arnett Mead look to pose little to no thread in this group at all, therefore chalk up 4 wins on the board for Saugeais. Darmen and Michael VII, however, may put up a lot more of a fight. They both participated in the second Saugeais Baseball Tournament a few months ago and while Darmen fell in the first round, Michael VII ran all the way into the quarterfinals before losing to fellow group member Colmark. Expect these two series to be split at the very least for Saugeais; anything less would be troublesome. Now speaking of Colmark, they went all the way to the finals of our baseball tournament before we ultimately defeated them, 3 games to 1. They put up a strong showing in that tourney, and expect them to do the same here. A split series would be ideal, as they cold easily take both games. Sakurakoku is one of those teams that has stayed under the radar, and frankly, has never put forth a good record during their 2 other WBC appearances. They don't seem to go away quietly, and could possibly take a game away from us late. That leads us finally to Lycrabon. Another Saugeais Baseball Tournament participant, the fourth place finishers have been in 6 previous WBCs, with their personal best is a quarter finals appearance. They've had some great pitchers in the past to hold our hitters in check, but this time around it's the power of their hitters we need to look out for. This matchup could very easily go to Lycrabon is Saugeais doesn't mentally prepare.

ROAD TO NEWMANISTAN TM

Qazox Eagles:

Prior WBC Results in Newmanistan:
WBC 14: Lost to Cassadaigua in 1st round 1-2.
WBC 11: Lost to Zwangzug in 3rd place series 1-2.
WBC 8: Def. Milchama in WBC Final 4-2. (2nd WBC title)

Last 3 WBC Results:
WBC 18: Lost to Milchama in Quarterfinals 1-2.
WBC 17: Def. Silver Beach in 3rd place series 3-1.
WBC 16: Lost to Tocrowkia in 1st round 0-2.

20 years ago Qazox won their 3rd WBC title, joining Az-cz as they only nations to have accomplished that feat. But since then, it's been a very long dry spell. The 2nd of their 3 titles was won in Newmanistan, but since then the last 2 trips haven't been as successful. A first round exit to Cassadaigua 10 years ago was one of the low points in team history.

But now Qazox isn't as bad off as then, but still not a favorite. The early odds have Qazox at 12-1 to win the WBC title, with Newmanistan and Tarrentum co-favorites at 5:3, and defensing champions Sarzonia at 7:3 to win it all.

The Schedule for this biggest WBC ever has been released, and Qazox appears to have some luck on their side. The highest rated team, besides themselves is #16 Cosumar, who aren't exactly worldbeaters. Cabric has been drawn into Group 4 as well as Meddicia, are the only other ranked teams in the group. 4 newcomers: Southern Canuckland, Ruadha, ViZion, and Swartaz.

WBC 19 SCHEDULE:
@ Cosumar
@ Swartaz
v. ViZion
@ Meddicia
v. Southern Canuckland
@ Cabric
v. Ruadha
v. Cosumar
v. Swartaz
@ ViZion
v. Meddicia
@ Southern Canuckland
v. Cabric
@ Ruadha

The first half of the schedule seems to be the tougher of the two halves, as Qazox has to travel to all 3 other ranked teams; but the Eagles will host all 3 of them in the 2nd half. There's a stretch (MD's 5-11) when Qazox has 5 of 7 games at home and that stretch should make or break the teams' chances. Based on past results and the schedule, Qazox should have little difficulty reaching 10 wins and that might be enough to make the playoffs. To win the group, odds are at least 12 wins should be enough. Most projections have Qazox and Cosumar finishing level at 11-3 with Qazox getting the edge on Run Differential.
