FTF: John Cookson Memorial Shield - Rugby league

John Cookson Memorial Shield

As part of the Festivalo de Tutmondaj Futbaloj, Sorthern Rugby League (SRL) are arranging a rugby league tournament for ten teams. Teams should be club teams rather than national teams and initially at least, there will be a limit of one team per nation.

Format

The tournament will be held mainly within a round-robin structure with each team playing each other team in the competition on two occasions, once at home and once away. Two points will be awarded for winning matches, and one for draws with the teams ranked by their points titles. Should teams be tied on points they would be split using, in order, scores difference, scores for, results between tied teams.

The top four teams would then progress into a semi-final stage, with the top placed team hosting the fourth placed team and the second placed team hosting the third placed team. The two winners would go on to play the championship match, whilst the two beaten semi-finalists would compete for third-place.

In order to lessen the length of time the tournament will take, group matchdays may possibly be scorinated two at a time.

Scorination

Being a part of a the Festivalo de Tutmondaj Futbaloj series of events, the John Cookson Memorial Shield will be using .ods version of Footba11er.

Sign-ups

One place will be reserved for a team from The Babbage Islands (or a puppet of that nation). Should more than the required number of teams sign-up the SRL reserves the right to chose from the sign-ups on a subjective basis rather than a completely first come first served basis.

It could have been worse, unlike the start of the Pios BRL (Bisi Rugby Leauge) they didn't lose three starters. It still amazes some how, that even though all the injuries, loses and scandles, they could pull off such a feet as to win the league and go international. But the players are used to this sort of thing, and they've always come back strong.

Ari Gerb, who scored the Pios first pionts in the game had this to say.

"It's unlike anything else to play on such big a stage, we would have liked a better outcome, but we'll take what we've got and roll with it."

Its what they had done all season long, and what they are hoping to do now.

Reporter 1: How does it feel, to win an internation game like this?

Smit: Its great. I mean, its great even to play at this level, but to shut down and beat the opposing team, its amazing.

Reporter 2: Is it as good as winning, say, the BRL Chaimpionship?

Smit: Umm, well, I don't actually think so. That game was yell and shouted about by the media, this was a little more relaxed and not really such a big news story.

Reporter 1: What do you think are your teams chances for succes in this league?

Smit: We feel good that we have what it takes to win games, and do the best we can to improve.

Reporter 2: But what do you think are the chances that you go and win it all?

Smit: Like I said before, we feel good about how we played and want to improve.

SORTHERN NORTHLAND - One year ago today, our wonderful Eternal Emperor Thom Rancor wisely banned sports in Hellhorn due to an increasing number of sport-related injuries. Of course, the Eternal Emperor had only the safety of his citizens in mind (what a caring Emperor!). Since then, Hornish government certified hospitals have reported that the death rate and infant mortality rate have dramatically decreased to nearly 0%.

"Since sports were banned we have seen far less injuries in Hellhorn! National health has improved. Sports are evil!" proclaimed Nurse Betty Sue of a Stanick City hospital.

She was NOT forced to say this at gunpoint by the secret police.

What a miraculous and wonderful leader the Eternal Emperor is! Thoms Rancor is always right, and is correct in not allowing sports to be played here. Now that Hellhorn is a safer place for everybody due to the absence of sports, Hornish athletes now must to travel to international competitions to play their violent and destructive games. What a mercyful leader the Eternal Emperor is for allowing these men to go travel abroad and participate in destructive games!

The Eternal Leader has also helped us resist the temptation to play sports by removing all sports television and reporting (except for this certified newswire). Word has it that the evil pigs in some foul nations label our beloved Father a dictator! Would a dictator really allow an unbiased news source such as this to report from remote places such as Atlantian Oceania? Of course not, but his majesty Thom Rancor allows us to do just that.

For example our staff is currently reporting from the directionally confused nation of Sorthern Northland about the John Cookson Memorial Shield, a rugby league tournament, and the first event the heavenly Thoms Rancor has allowed Hornish athletes to participate in since the ban. The Stanick City Monsterdemons, led by Walter Hevero, have been successful so far, thanks to the Emperor.

"We are doing good at the John Cookson Memorial Shield. We just defeated St. Lawrence State from Polar Islandstates. Of course, it's all thanks to my savior Thom Rancor!' Coach Hevero said.

Stanick City's bone-crushing 36-24 defeat of St. Lawrence proves that Hellhorn is superior to Polar Islandstates and that our Eternal Emperor is more worthy and honorable than their pathetic leader whoever he his. Stanick City is currently in 6th place with a 5-5 record, but as long as the team continues to pray to the Eternal Emperor twice an hour as they are required to, they will undoubtedly have a strong close to the John Cookson Memorial Shield and finish in the top 4, qualifying for the semifinals.

Zander Amory has been the Monsterdemons' best player so far, accounting for over a third of the team's points. Tomorrow Amory and the team will take on Pire City Pios and Scott City AC, two teams that are somehow ahead of Stanick City right now. Of course, with the Emperor's guidance, the Monsterdemons will win. Remember, sports are banned and the activities of the Monsterdemons are not to be replicated in Hellhorn. Violators face immediate execution and an eternity in hell.
