Salany Brothers Farms

Postby Saltha » Thu Sep 30, 2010 1:05 am

[ooc]Currency values use sunset calculator, and it is recomended though not required that buyers do the same for continuity. We are open to using the NSEconomy as well. [/ooc]

Salany Brothers Farms
Salany farms is a family owned farm for the last 10 generations, over 500 years. Buyers who make purchases in bulk units of 100 or more for qualiffying perchases will revive a 10% discount. Please note that standard shipping costs, taxes duties and local laws still apply. We cannot deliver our product where those products are illegal, and will instead give a refund.

We are happy to answer any questions about what we sell. Prices given are in the Saltha Doka (SD$)* and standard dollar ($). Years given are from the year the senate was established in 0 KG. (The current year is 61 KG). Gineasa! Long health!

*((OOC Note: Dokas do not have dollar/cents type division (like the Japanese Yen), so listed economy values (such as here, or on NSEconomy, Sunset, etc.) in Dokas should be multiplied by 100 to get the actual number of dokas. For example, if NS says SD$0.66 = $1, it really should be SD$66 = $1. Sorry if this is confusing. This can be ignored anyway since standard $ value are given. ))

Gestation Period: 640 days (about 21 months)

Avg. Longevity: 50 years

Description and history
Kes are large reptilian creatures with jagged green scales that roam the deserts (don’t believe the line about lush forests, that’s a joke on the gullible). Kes have been used over the last half century in warfare in defense of Saltha, and in civil guards, as they still are active in these capacities to this day.

Kes have a unique wide framed bone structure around their legs, and thick leg and spine bones that allows them to have superior carrying capacity. Females can carry up to 500 lbs on their backs. They are great for use as beasts of burden for carrying cargo in caravans especially across deserts or use on farms for plows. Kes can run briefly at around 13 MPH (While not carrying any loads). A loaded Kes can cross 20 miles of open terrain in about 4-5 hours. More difficult terrain such as 10 miles of dune-filled deserts take a kes 7-8 hours to cross. They have an excellent sense of smell and are well suited for use in tracking criminals by government justice organizations or bounty hunters (where allowed by law). They may even be used for mounts for national defense units.

These Kes are all pre-trained using only humane methods. the Kes will obey basic vocal commands such as "down" "up and "stop" They also are trained to obey commands that consist of a combination of a whistle and lowering or raising the arm for up and down respectively.

Each Kes comes with a saddle made for fastening cargo with reigns for easy control and a comfortable ride.

All Kes sold are females (except for those for breeding, see below) and in good physical condition, certified by a specialist physician before being sent. The only condition for sale is a contractual promise that these creatures will never be used for food, either for human or animal consumption (In compliance with Salthan religious custom) and that proper accommodations are available for Kes to survive (See below).

Kes are cold-blooded creatures from a desert region, and though they can be used in other climates, they must be properly cared for to maintain good health. Kes need to be allowed to work in shade for periods of time. For desert travel, allowing them to swim in an oasis should be sufficient. Kes will not be sold to nations that are severely cold unless proper accommodations can be proven. (If you live in a region that is severely cold, please specify these accommodations when you order).

Single Trained Female price: SD$165,000 ($3,000)
34 Male & 34 Female (for breeding) SD$1,6500,000 ($300,000)

[ooc]I have no real experience with genetics, I did some research, and found this interesting artcile but I don't exactly understand all of it, but I think i get some of the gist of it, and it may be enough of a guess to fit in this game world. The following is my interpitation summery. DISCLAIMER: I am not a geneniscist, or experienced with biology. Those who might have expereince in genetic biology feel free to message me and I can make changes to this, though I don't want to obsess too much on realism. It is a game after all. The breeding pairs thing was meant to be the same as "produciton rights", so maybe I guess I should just say the following is what you buy when you buy the breeding pair.[/ooc]

Apollogizes for taking so long. One handy formula for calculating genetic health of the animals is calculation by usng an Effective Breed Numbers (Ne)

Code: Select all
         4MF
Ne = -----------------
        M+F

Where M = number of males and F = number of Females

So with 1 male and 1 female you have Ne = 4/2 or Ne = 2.
With 4 male and 4 female you have Ne = 64/8 or Ne = 8 and so on.
This is used to determine the genetic drift, at which the genetic material is lost (that is, when inbreeding kicks in).

The thing is, it really is up to the farmer by what they want of a "stable" breed, meaning how much they want to keep their animals "as is" or allow for loss of some traits. Trying to keep an 100% pure breed would require an infinite size, and thus impossible.
To keep a 95% viability over 100 generations you would need around a Ne of 74, or 34 pairs (if you have equal numbers of males and females).

[ooc] New Zepuha: Consider it retroactivly changed and you now have 148 kes! [/ooc]

Dear Salany Brothers,

Etria Massa would like to order a single breeding pair of Kes for our menagerie. We will fly a cargo plane to take the Kes, along with the Enli and his aide when they are ready to leave. The money will be wired to you just before his departure.

Also, not to be rude, however do you have any record of any Kes being shot? Etria already uses dogs in it's military and police force. It is important to know if such a large animal can withstand bullets. If not, use in either the police or the military would be animal cruelty. We accept dogs in these positions because they have a small surface area, and dogs can easily hide under cover. If Kes can withstand such a terrible force, then the police may be interested in a larger purchase than our current one.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,
Head of Palace Affairs

Flanilli Greminis

Thank you for your inqury. The breeding package actually now is 74 kes to allow for a more stable population. However, as this most likely won't fit on your vessel, they may be shipped seperatly.

As for being bullet proof, this has never come up so I cannot say. Only recently have aquired fire arms, and we have never fought a nation that had them. Kes do seem resillent to arrows on the upper portions of their bodies, but I have a feeling that bullets would indeed harm the kes, being a much higher velocity. Of course, we're not going to try it to find out. Generaly in Saltha even bandits will not attack a Kes that a man they are fighting is on, as this is seen as cowardly, so Kes being harmed in battle has been rare.

At any rate, there are other uses in defense for Kes that do not involve front line combat such as logistics and long range scouting over desert terrain.

In the interest of creating diplomatic ties and learning more about the world in which we live, Outlying States would like to acquire a pair of Kes (or perhaps whatever small "family" sized group of Kes may be) for our national zoo. Due to the nature of our purchase, we would also be interested in purchasing a contract for a 'Kes Expert' to work at our zoo to ensure the well being of the animal as well as to assist in publishing information to the public.

To start we would like a small group of Kes along with a 1yr 'trial period' contract with an educated Kes biologist (or something similar). If the arangement turns out well we are open to renewining the contract long term. Please let us know what price you have in mind.

The packages are for a stable breeding family, over a long course of time.though this might not be as practical or neccisary for a zoo. You may if you wish opt to buy a pair of Kes (male and female) for $600.

I have contacted the agricultual biology department at the university of Naska, and they do have an expert who is very interested in this. Her name is Dr. Sali Shasedek. She has a Greater Degree (equivlent to a PHD) in animal health and is currently making SD$5400 ($54,000). You may negotiate the price with her.

[ooc]Basicly, this way you can say their breeding as long as you're not going into "mass production". I doubt you really need 74 kes, and this saves money. Salary based on anual salary of a zoo vertrinarian. Edit: Read wrong numbers, corrected.[ooc]

The CoS would gladly pay $600 for a pair of Kes. We would also like to offer Dr. Sali Shasedek a salary equivalent to $65,000 USD, with an option to mutually renew the contract after one year.

From headlines in Astonbury, CoS - ...and citizens of the capital city eagerly await what will become the next big exhibit in the Astonbury National Zoo, a pair of exotic Kes!"

We were interested in only one breeding pair so they could have a single family and be happy together. We believe they would be happier as a family as opposed to a couple of males or a couple of females. We currently have no interest in long term breeding.

If you still cannot send a breeding pair, then we will settle for two trained females.

A purchase of a single pair would be acceptable for $6,000. The Kes will be ready to be moved to your transport when you are ready to go, or if you have hanother place to store them they can be moved there when you are ready.

We wish to acquire 100 pairs, one male and one female per pair, so we can set them out into the wild and watch them try to survive in our Dinosaur-ridden environment!
