Rise of a Conglomerate: A Brief History of LifeWyze

Established in 1938 by the Irvine family after enormous investment by an anonymous organization, LifeWyze rose to prominence in Cruxium swiftly. The founder, Sir James Irvine, a Cruxium national of renown, sought to make LifeWyze the most advanced biotechnological & medical research institute in the world. In a way, he succeeded.

In 1968 LifeWyze branched out into biological weaponry, which was then expanded to include chemical weaponry in 1975. Despite efforts on the part of the World Assembly to prevent the manufacture and sale of this weaponry, and later, by the sovereign nation of Kanami, LifeWyze saw enormous sales of their alternative warfare solutions. To date, no biological or chemical weapon supplied by LifeWyze has been utilised. In order to ensure security of the corporation after sale of its controversial weaponry became public in 1978, LifeWyze established its own private mercentile paramilitary force, SecuriCorps, which operates to this day under the auspices of the WarCare subsidiary.

Using funds acquired through weaponry sales, LifeWyze spent the remainder of 20th century developing counter-measures for biological and chemical attacks to become the foremost supplier in that market at the turn of the century. It was during this period that LifeWyze, under new direction by Sir James Irvine Junior, began to reassess its business model, investing heavily in both national and private healthcare operations throughout Cruxium.

In 2000 LifeWyze established its healthcare division, LifeWyze MediCare, which went from strength to strength and has proven to be the crowning glory of the conglomerate. Operating hospitals, clinics, surgeries and pharmacies in over a dozen countries, LifeWyze rose to become the most prominent Biotechnology company in the world, despite its waning biotechnological division. It would eventually become the sole supplier of medical care and pharmaceuticals in Cruxium, Maraque and New Azura, resulting in profits dwarfing all competing private healthcare organisations.

The unexpected retirement of Sir James Irvine Junior, and the subsequent instatement of Sir James Irvine III saw LifeWyze return to its original ideals. Once again the conglomerate focused upon genetic research and alteration in 2006. Its efforts were swiftly realized when it produced a full herd of biologically enhanced cattle, and by 2008 had caused the bankruptcy of thousands of farms worldwide. As a result, the company was met by various detractors, specifically the sovereign nations of Kanami and Aqua Anu. Its subsidiary BioFarm Projects became a major supplier of the Cute Bunny Burger Corporation, for whom it carried out private engineering contracts, and to thousands of schools in Maraque and Cruxium.

In 2007 LifeWyze also outbid Raven Corps and purchased Lincoln BioTech, a company which had developed excellent human cloning facilities. It was folded into the corporation’s pre-existing biotechnology division, with the entire venture renamed DoubleHelix Biological Technologies. This division has since been further renamed to LifeWyze BioTechniCare.

LifeWyze was made a public limited company in 2007 and floated on the World Stock Exchange, with the primary shareholder being Sir James Irvine III, Chief Executive Officer of the LifeWyze Corporation and grandson of founder Sir James Irvine. Until the close of the World Stock Exchange it could be found trading as LW.; however, it has since returned to being a limited liability company owned almost exclusively by the Irvine family.

Slammed for its lack of fair trade practices, and continued biological and chemical warfare interests, LifeWyze was opposed by several countries later that same year. Led by the national leader of Kanami, LifeWyze was brought before an international tribunal of nations to justify its business practices and revenue streams. Despite several months of hearings, evidentiary proceedings and much political manoeuvring, the LifeWyze Corporation was cleared of any wrong-doing, much to the chagrin of those nations who opposed its practices.

2009 saw the launch of BioWyze probiotic drinks and HealthWyze beverages, in answer to a gap in the health drinks market. This division has since continued to operate quietly, distributing throughout Cruxium and Maraque, but without being exported further afield. Whilst this proved to be a relatively fruitless endeavour, that same year LifeWyze MediCare obtained a contract for monopoly of the New Azura healthcare sector, creating the National Healthcare Service of New Azura (NHS: NW).

With the erection of the Maraque Towers, and resulting from growing investments within Maraque after it monopolised the nation’s healthcare system in 2008, the LifeWyze Corporation relocated its international corporate offices from Cruxium. It has since been located in Maraque's capital city, where the Board of Directors can command spectacular views from their penthouse offices in Tower 3 to this day.

Presently, the LifeWyze Corporation is finishing its six year construction and reorganisation plan, part of the overarching consolidation policy brought into place by Sir James III. With the restructure, the LifeWyze Corporation is comprised of: LifeWyze BiotechniCare, which has now subsumed what was BioFarm Projects; LifeWyze MediCare and LifeWyze WarCare. What is the process, you ask? Why it's no different than cloning any other animal. After sampling your genetic material, we will grow, under strictest supervision and with frequent screening, the perfect genetic copy of you. Once the tissue is sufficiently mature we implant it into the womb of a willing donor, who then gives birth to your copy. Fear not, however, for this copy will never know consciousness! One of humanity's greatest crimes has been to cause the extinction of countless species over the course of centuries, as part of our corporate vision statement, LifeWyze has vowed to revive those species lost to humanity due to its own recklessness. So what is ReGenesis? It is the goal of the ReGenesis programme to map the genome of every species, both living and extinct, in an effort to prevent future extinction of species, and to reverse the extinction of those previously lost. As such, LifeWyze is developing the world's largest biorepository with samples of every piece of flora and fauna known. From there, the ReGenesis programme will use species' genome to revive lost species.

The process of ReGenesis is incredibly complex; however, here at LifeWyze we endeavour to facilitate understanding! The initial requirement of ReGenesis is to collate information from samples of extinct species in order to recreate the species' genome. Having managed to collect the data of a creature's genome it must be restructured accurately, before LifeWyze scientists proceed to artificially grow a collection of embryos of the extinct creature. Once embryos have been developed, they are inserted into the wombs of genetically similar creatures for gestation before eventual 'rebirth'. Presently, the ReGenesis programme is only working with mammalian species.

Once a species has been revived, it is nurtured for several months within ReGenesis laboratories to ensure its stability. If a creature survives the initial months of inspection then ReGenesis relinquishes control of the specimen to LifeWyze BioPharms, where they are subsequently placed in an artificial environment and brought to maturation, ready to begin breeding under the LifeWyze alternate farming initiative.

The production of Bh serotype toxins are what make this pathogen so incredibly deadly, with a miniscule 13ng of H-type proving sufficient to kill an adult human by inhalation! The result of this deadly substance? Initially those exposed will swiftly suffer double or impaired vision, lethargy, weakness and impaired speech as the facial muscles become paralyzed. Subsequently, this paralysis will spread to the victims arms and legs, and finally to the respiratory muscles, causing respiratory failure in the host; however, unlike other LifeWyze products, NuRotoxin does not cause a fever, nor any loss of consciousness, how terrifying!

In it you claim that your nation's healthcare system "leads the world in transplant success rate". Regretably, we must inform you that this statement is misleading at best, and false at worst.

I think the world is well aware of your corporate statistics. The facts speak differently, sir, as you know. Your success rates are related to the immediate survival rate of the patient through the procedure. Even the simplest among us know that is hardly an accurate measure of the success or failure in a transplant. It's the long term survival rate that matters. Our 20 year success rate is 83%. LIfeWyze Corporation can't offer statistics on 20 year survival rates because it's an impossibility with the underpowered, genetically inferior organs you use.

That's what you don't want the public to know. BioFarm's franken-organs are too small to do the job. They are the perfect size for a gentically-modified pig with a lifespan of 18 months, they are not sound long term solutions for organ transplants. You have built in fallibility to keep patients reliant on organ replacements on a 12-15 year cycle and we find that morally reprehensible.

You must understand, Mr. Bridgewater, that the commodification of health care is a settled question in Laglandia. We find vocation in healing and reward in a publicly funded, all-inclusive system. It actually creates another advantage over your "product". Our people are extremely healthy and that contributes to the quality of our organs. Our system enables early identification of potential problems, educates patients on the important role of nutrition and exercise and leads to a healthy cultural of maintaining vitality into and an old age. Your system finds motivation only in profit and no vocation in healing. We simply choose another approach, we are sorry you were offended but not surprised.

We understand that you are frightened of what the Global Organ Database and ready availability of top quality human organs on a global scale means for your profits. Will people really choose a pig heart over a human heart if one is available? Will the citizens sit by and accept inferior genetically-modified animal organs when human organs are readily available in the next state? Only the boldest dictator, with a firm grip on the wheel, would dare short-change the public in such a way.

The Global Organ Database and Laglandia Health Sciences University Organ Bank are dedicated to the cause and concept of healing. Our training program and consulting services are an attempt to facilitate other states developing the internal skills to replicate what we've done. Pig organs have been used in human organ transplants by LifeWyze for many years now, and to date there have been no long-term problems arising. Across five years, our organ transplant success rate is still a staggering 91% thanks to the genetic modification our pOrgan Donors have undergone in order to humanise them for xenotransplantation. Furthermore, the pOrgans grown are of a size comparable with an adult-sized human (statement subject to average healthy BMI of adults 24-50 in Cruxium and Maraque) allowing them to last far long than the supposed 12-15 year stretch your nation suggests.

Following your arguement regarding our produce, you state that your nation offers far more by giving patients after care. Surely this is the responsibility of any right-thinking medical organisation, but it in the public or private sector. LifeWyze would like to thank the Confederacy's kind offer of allowing the LifeWyze Corporation to establish a bottling plant upon its soil. However unfortunately due to the HealthWyze Beverages ranges only being established within Cruxium and Maraque there is no demand for such a product unless the Confederacy intends to distribute our beverages to school children as the aforementioned nations have done.

As a counter-proposal, LifeWyze wishes to instead establish any or all of the following: BioFarm Project facilities for farming of the B.Tworus MK I & MK IV; a LifeWyze Pharmaceutical Laboratory & Factory; or any of the buildings mentioned within this missive to the Griffincrest Corporation.

If any of these appeal to the Senate, please inform us and we can begin construction. It is promised that LifeWyze will offer contracting jobs solely to Blackhelm Confederacy businesses and, depending upon the agreement, provide a signifcant number of jobs for Blackhelm Confederacy nationals.

Regarding allowing LifeWyze into your nation's medical industry, could you kindly provide us with a list of competitors and their share in the market. Furthermore, what precisely will the tax apply to? Will LifeWyze's healthcare treatments be subject to taxation, or will it solely be the sale of drugs and cosmetic treatment?
