Project 750-AA Submarine Landing Ship

The history of the Project 750 actually commences in the Soviet Union of old. In August 1965, Design Bureau #16 was commissioned to create the Project 748, designed to land Soviet commandos and Marines on foreign shores or evacuate them in covert actions, or to resupply Soviet troops operating overseas. The submarine was also designed to be used as a resupply ship for Soviet forces operating abroad. Another role for the Project 748 was to be used as a minelayer - it was swiftly understood that a submarine large enough to be used as a troop carrier could carry truly vast quantities of mines.

Soon, the Design Bureau converged on the final Project 748. It utilized three internal hulls and unique flat nose with two assault ramps, enabling the submarine to deploy its deadly cargo on enemy shores - either up to 1200 troops or 20 AFVs, or a combination thereof (a 470-man Marine infantry battalion reinforced with two BTRs and 3 PT-76 tanks was considered, for example). Due to the fact that the Project 748 had a very low draught, it was capable of approaching shallow waters and deploying the Marines upon beaches.

The Project 748 was armed, of course, among other things with four 533mm torpedo launchers/mine dispensers. However, the USSR designed to put all its money into SSBN production rather than build large, and controversial, troop transports.

It was here where Allanean Arms came in.

The Allaneans commenced producing the ship from Project 748 blueprints, replacing the nuclear power plant with a newer, safer one and installing modern electronics and an uplink to the modern BASTION command and control software system. Gone was the notion of arming a submarine with automatic cannon (these were considered seriously on the Project 748). More advanced reactors have been deployed, as well as more modern screws, allowing with a reduction of observability and a very slight improvement of speed over the original designs.

OOC: This is based on the original Project 748 design which you can read about here. It was designed, essentially speaking, by a RL design bureau that put several years of work into it.

DPR price has been brought into proportion with the prize of individual ships (it is now 2 trillion and previously it was 1).
