From the HIA UAV family of multi-mission, persistent and affordable unmanned air vehicles. The Hehzy (Ninja) is apart of HIA's affordable, medium altitude, multi-mission unmanned aircraft systems. This product line can be configured with differently-sized fuel tanks and different sensor payloads to meet ever-changing tactical missions, including intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, target acquisition and communications relay. The Hehzy can perform intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) operations over a large area.Additionally, the Hehzy has a blended body design, enabling a much larger payload volume (3.2 cubic feet) that allows it to carry more payload than other UAV's of its size. Its huge capacity provides space for commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) payloads and systems
The UAV captures real-time intelligence data (audio and video) across large distances and transmits it to the ground control station (GCS) through a satellite communication data link. It can undertake surveillance and reconnaissance operations as well as being used for commercial applications for private security, traffic monitoring, agriculture, forestry, storms, pipelines, power lines and fisheries.
The UAV is equipped with electro-optic (EO), infrared (IR) sensors, laser range finders, laser designators, still image and real-time video cameras. The EO sensor converts light rays into electronic signals for capturing images, real-time data and videos. The laser designator installed in the Hehzy will be used to target the enemy's battlefield.
The Hehzy is fitted with a synthetic aperture radar (SAR), moving target indicator (MTI), signal intelligence (SIGINT) and communication intelligence (COMINT), chemical and biological detection systems and flare dispensers.
Essentially designed and developed to punch above its weight class, using its radar-jamming capability to execute electronic attack missions against enemy radar and SAM (Surface-to-Air Missile) systems, and do it just as well as significantly larger and more expensive UAS/UAV platforms. The system is designed to be operated by as few as one person in a single support vehicle. A typical system would include a small trailer towed by an SUV, or the system can be carried in the bed of a large pick-up. This system will perform missions currently requiring light planes or helicopters at a fraction of the cost and with much more endurance. Since it's catapult-launched from a hydraulic rail launcher, it doesn't need a runway, making it runway-independent, meaning you can launch it from virtually anywhere, including ships.
The Hehzy (Ninja) UAV has a blended wing-body design, constructed with carbon and fibreglass composites providing structural efficiency and thickness, thereby, making it less sensitive to damage or loss. The net hooks in the nose allow the aircraft to land in a conventional retrieval net. With only three airframe parts, and is designed to reduce manufacturing costs to a minimum. All systems are accessible from a single panel. While other small UAV's need to be folded to avoid the stresses of high speed flight, the Hehzy with it's blended-wing design can be released from fast-flying aircraft. The thicker wings and body are much stiffer than conventional aircraft designs, so it doesn't need expensive folding mechanisms. By merging efficient high-lift wings and a wide airfoil-shaped body, the entire aircraft generates lift and minimizes drag, this increases fuel economy and endurance.
Runway-independent, ship launch and recoverable, and fully autonomous, the Hehzy™ UAV launches from a rail launcher and recovers into a portable net. Hehzy is a fully modular system using a four fastener interface for all line replaceable units, allowing quick components change or mission specific load-outs.
Utilizing electronic fuel-injection engine and heavy fuel-variant, the Hehzy runs on a variant of JP-8, the most widely used fuel variant within most military's around the globe to provide ease of logistics and support. The HVRL engine with a 5 bladed propeller design provides a flight time of up to 18 hours. The Hehzy is designed to have a lower than average visual and radar cross-section profile. A heavy fuel engine design is also available for ease of environmental integration
Hub and spoke operations and multiple air vehicles can be operated from single laptops that run the Ground Control Stations (GCS). Hehzy is Beyond Line of Sight (BLOS) capable. The Hehzy and its GCS are fully compatible with the situational awareness needs of the ground vehicle/laptop-equipped war-fighter.
