Our HistoryGegeia Airlines’ history can be traced back to 1 June 1936, when a Yaya Airways Limited (YAL) Airspeed Consul took off from
Gegeia Bukit Tengah Airport on the first of three scheduled flights a week to Mowel (now Watercity) and The Arnorian Gondor. · Over the next five years, larger capacity DC-3 aircraft were introduced. This meant faster and more comfortable flights, and the extension of services to destinations in Syren empire, and Chainsaw Land. · Inflight refreshments improved from the original thermos flask of iced water to sandwiches, biscuits and cold cuts plus a choice of hot and cold drinks, and alcoholic beverages served by a lone hostess. Known as “female pursers”, these hostesses are the forerunners of today’s
Gegeia Girl.
Things changed on 1 July 1984, when the government announced that Yaya Airways shall become
Gegeia Airlines as the flag carrier for
Gegeia. The rest of the decade was devoted to growth and consolidation of the newly established
Gegeia Airlines. The fleet was expanded to include B747s, B727s and DC10s. To provide more efficient ground services at Bukit Tengah Airport, a subsidiary company,
Gegeia Airport Terminal Services (GATS), was set up. A B747 hangar and airfreight terminal opened in 1985. · The move to the new
Gegeia Butterworth Airport from Bukit Tengah in 1990 was a big event. · The first
Gegeia Airlines A300 Superbus went into service in February 1981, and the first B747-300 in May 1983. The first B757 and the first A310-200 arrived in November 1984. In 1989,
Gegeia Airlines became the first airline to operate a B747-400 on a commercial flight across the Pacific.
As the world goes into the 2000s,
Gegeia Airlines receives its new Boeing 777s and Airbus A330s, and also received the superjumbo Airbus A380. On 1 July 2014,
Gegeia Airlines celebrated its 30th Anniversary. On 16 December 2015,
Gegeia Airlines launched its new logo and new storefront design.
