Each Silo 1339 Aquaponics system retails for $49,000. Financing, lay away and gift-cards available.

- What is the cost of fish food (and how much fish food would this system be expected to require over a given period)?

Example, the tilapia:

Feeding should to be kept to a Tbsp of fine feed for the first 1-2 months.

Feed the fish what they consume in 5 minutes, generally 1 Tbsp per 20 fish per day.

If they aren't hungry don’t feed them.

Fish can survive for weeks without feeding.

As your fish grow, gradually increase feeding levels, keeping to the 5 minute rule.

If desired you can feed them multiple times per day.

Mature tilapia eat about 1% of their body weight in feed a day.

Consult your fish dealer about local supply of fish, food brands, prices and feeding instructions.

20lbs of tilapia food may range from $55 - $100 retail; it pays to shop around.

Some customers enjoy non food fish, such as gold fish or koi.

- Does this system require external power?

Silo 1339 Aquaponics system is meant to work out of the 'box'. Under normal operating conditions external power is not required.

Exceptions e.g.: operating under gound, under heavy camoflage, covered by snow, artic conditions, etc.

If you are operating in harsh conditions extra Off-Grid Systems can be purchased through Silo 1339 Aquaponics and/or are easily purchased through other retailers, e.g.: solar cells, wind turbines, tidal systems, etc.

You can also use regular forms of heating and electricity.

Also keep in mind that tropical food may require more heat; also the size of some fish vary by ambient temperature.

- What kind of regular maintenance does this system require? Regular cleaning? Replacement of filters?

A large amount of feed can be place in the 'hopper' to automatically dispence fish food.

You must initially fill the system with clean water until the light indicates 'green'. You may also want to fill the rain catchment system at first. Sensors can report status on hand, to your computer or smart phone if action needs to be taken.

Produce should be picked regularly and reseeded or replaced with cuttings.

Cleaning is rarely needed and can usually be done with potable water, a clean hose nozzle and occasionally with a clean vegetable brush.

Seeds and fish are not included. These are subject to your own preferences and local market conditions.

Unless you vary your variety this represents a one time cost - If you harvest your seeds or use cuttings.

The Silo 1339 Aquaponics system has been engineered with the expectation that it will be used 24 hrs per day everyday. It is not expected to require replacement parts under usual wear for +10 years.

All parts, if properly used, are subject to our six month replacement guarentee. We do sell replacement parts at cost (and as we develop - upgrades).

A mixed vegetable garden is expected to grow 100+ Lbs. of fresh organic produce per week = +-5,200 Lbs. annually.

Fish vary by type, temperature and variation. Some fish take longer to mature than others. Some fish grow faster or to a larger size than others, e.g.: mature catfish will out weigh fresh water shrimp.

We encourage you to experiment and try a variety of combinations.
