Started in 1798 as a small shipyard under the name Felix Tines Company by Auster native Felix Garunde, Alcyoneum played a key part in the development of the Austertine; a type fast sailing ship that resembles the Clippers of the mid and late 19th century.
Felix Tines Company ran until 1906, when it was sold off to wealthy business men in Whitesands who renamed the company to Iron Sails Shipworks and turned the operation from the production of Austertines to building iron steamers and warships.
The final story in the Alcyoneum Shipworks saga is one of sailing race in the 1950s. It started with the rise of recreational sailing in the late 1940s following WWII, when the current CEO, Jason Moore, of Iron Sails Shipworks bet his ownership in a sailing regatta. Moore lost the regatta and ownership swapped hands to the young Alex Johnson who renamed the company to Alcyoneum Shipworks and began production of warships and his favor racing vessels.
