Spritmonopolet (Liquor Retail)

[Breheim]

Spritmonopolet (The Liquor Monopoly) is a state-owned enterprise in the Republic of Breheim involved in liquor retail and production. Within Breheim, it is the only company who can legally distribute liquors and wines (anything above 5% ABV), and is responsible for the granting of liquor sale licenses to bars, pubs and restaurants. While until recently, importing of liquor was strictly limited (at least 80% of products available had to be Breheimian produce), this rule have been abolished in an attempt to increase the range of liquors available in Breheim. Spritmonopolet is therefore looking for further contracts with external producers and suppliers of liquors, wines and strong beers for bulk and regular purchase.

Spritmonopolet is also looking at establishing exporting contracts of Breheimian liquors with other nations. Breheim has a long and storied tradition of alcohol production, particularly Mead, Vodka and Akevitt. Breheimian liquor products are a mixture of liquors directly produced by Spritmonopolet through state-owned enterprises, and liquor from licensed private companies such as Henriksen Vin og Mjød (Henriksen Wine and Mead). Breheim's liquors are of variable quality, although some products (particularly within the various meads) are of world-class quality at moderate prices. Breheim has a high consumption of alcohol, particularly of liquor, and as such the market for alcohol in Breheim is significantly more than its population would imply. In 2013, Breheimians consumed 325 million liters of pure alcohol, or 23 liters per adult (15+) citizen.

Prices are for batches of 100 liters in a variety of bottle volumes. Batch sale is, for the moment, the only distribution method of Spritmonopolet to the international market. Smaller batches may be sold to individuals on special request.

Frost

Description: Frost is an unflavoured vodka produced in the northern city of Odinberg, made from potatoes produced in the fylke of Svartskog. It has a mild flavour and low burn, and is meant to be served cold and with ice, or through shots.

Republikaneren

Description: Republikaneren (The Republican) has a storied history in Breheim, having been originally produced by the Ungvarsen Spirits Company (Nationalized in 1929, and integrated into Spritmonopolet in 1946). It is primarily made from wheat, and has to be matured in oaken caskets for a minimum of ten years which do not exceed 500 liters in volume, to qualify for the brand. It has an oaken flavour, and is suggested to be served along with red meats.

Alfarvin

Description: Alfarvin (Elven Wine) is a popular wine produced and largely sold in the storfylke of Alfheim in southern Breheim, and is the pre-eminent wine available in the country. The recipe dates from the early wines produced in Alfheim centuries ago, and while the name is not patented by the Henriksen Vin og Mjød company, they are the primary producers of this ancient recipe. The taste and ABV is quite strong for a wine.

Vintervin

Base Ingredient: Frozen grapes.
ABV: 13.5%

Description: Vintervin (Winter Wine) is an ice wine produced in the central regions of Breheim, and the only major wine brand produced outside of Alfheim. It has a fresh and acidic taste, and is meant to be served cold with ice.

Vikingmjød

Description: Vikingmjød (Viking Mead) is among the pre-eminent meads of Breheim due to its good taste and relative affordability. It is the primary product of the Odinberg Mead Company, and is made from honey from the southern and western areas of Svartskog and northern Taranger. It has a rich flavour, and Vikingmjød is available with added flavouring by apples, peaches, oranges and blueberries.

Description: Klostermjød (Monastery Mead) is a mead flavoured with apples and blueberries, and is considered one of the highest quality meads in Breheim. The recipe descends from monasteries in Vestøy, and was considered lost for centuries after the Reformation. However, the recipe was recovered by Magnus Larsen in 1794, lost in clerical records seized by the crown and recovered following the Republican Revolution. Larsen created the first batch of Klostermjød in 1795, and quickly thereafter established the Revolutionary Meader Company (nationalized and integrated into Spritmonopolet in 1936). The taste is rich and sweat, with a strong taste of both honey and sweetened apples.
