History

History
_____________________________________________________________________________________________

From small beginnings as a town wide start up telephone provider in 1914 to one of Hyfling's largest and most influential and well-known companies, as well as toast of the Blackwater and Double Bay Stock Exchange's. (BSX) (DBSX) An amazing feat, but how did this happen?

The company was founded in 1914 by Richmond Stein and his close friend; Jason Briggs under the name: Rostok Telecom. The company exclusively provided telephone and telegraph connections in the town of Rostok (population 5,000) in Hyfling's cold, mountainous north. At first business was bad, most people were reluctant to waste money on such a thing, epecially with the horrible reliablity of phones during this time, when they had their trusty mail-based communication at hand. The company ver nearly went out of business. But, when war in 1921 caused the government to ground all postage for control over all of the nations external information for fear of military secrets being released, people were forced to take up the new fangled telephones. After the info blockade, the telephone network was expanded internationally
providing instant communication with people on the other side of the world. Profits soured.

Image
The very first exchange owned by HyFI, located in outer Rostok, still in use after nearly 100 years.

Being the sole telecom provider in the northern area, business quickly soured and the two friends opened 9 new telephone exchanges across north Hyfling, providing phone connections to over 64 towns and 8 cities. Once again, their business grew into a large, but local, company with over 325,000 connections. By 1949 the company was rolling out copper wiring all across the nation and had even begun taking up contracts with local councils and state governments to provide access to their own towns regions. In 1953 the company was made public and its name was changed to Hyfling Telecom, over 900,000 shares were sold at 12.43 credits per share. It had over 25,000,000 connections. In 1956 both Richmond and Jason died in a tragic plane crash aged 81 and 78 respectively. The company was instated a new CEO, Michael Lancaster. This was the most successful era of HyFI, during his time at the company, Hyfling Telecom expanded to cover all of Hyfling, become the largest telecom provider in Hyfling and gained over 221,000,000 connections, more than 60% of Hyflings total market.

In 1996, Hyfling Telecom began providing dial-up internet and cable TV connections, as well as expanding internationally. The internet arm of the company was an instant success.

When wireless internet and mobile phones became publicly available in late 1999, there was a scramble by other phone and communication companies to construct phone masts across the nation. Unfortunatly, Hyfling Telecom was slow on the uptake, labelling wireless telecommunications as 'a fad.' Nevertheless, HyFI remains Hyflings second largest fixed wireless provider. In 2001 Hyfling Telecom begins manufacturing IT equipment such as computers, mobile phones, cables and printers, although this sudden change in business was slow on the uptake, it quickly grew into Hyfling's 3rd largest IT manufacturer.

In 2004, Hyfling Telecom was renamed, once again, to HyFI, sometimes called 'HyFI Telecom to avoid confusion with Telecom Hyfling, It began rolling out DSL connections across Hyfling as well as providing a some 'pilot' fiber connections in Green River, the nations wealthiest city.

As demand for extra bandwidth and speed increased across Hyfling and the world, HyFI has been at the forefront of electronic telecommunications. Providing international access to the internet via: Dial-up, DSL, Cable, fixed wireless, satellite and fiber. Earning over 1 trillion credits annually and over 955,000,000 phone and internet connections across Hyfling, its puppet nations and the world.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________

HyFi Telecom is currently listed on both of Hyfling's stock exchanges, the Double Bay Stock Exchange (DBSX) and the Blackwater Stock Exchange (BSE). The current trading price for our shares are listed below. These numbers are updated regularly, so check back regularly!

AS you can see from the graph above, HyFi has always been the dominant player in telecommunications in Hyfling, boasting more the 960 million connected in the United Hyflingian States alone, it has always been the largest. Except for a short time from 2000 to 2002 when Hyfling Online took over (almost totally on dial-up). The chart uses the number of connections, as opposed to the number of connected buildings. For example, normally a 200 room apartment building would count as 1, this graph counts the actual number of customers. It does not include mobile internet connections as most phone users also have a home connection, including this would compromise the accuracy of the graph.

Internet Products

Standard Products
_____________________________________________________________________________________________

Phone Connection
Image

Using a basic twisted pair copper cable, we roll-out and connect all customers required via copper and exchanges.
The amount of exchanges varies wildly depending on the coverage area. Although an oldie it is still the dominant
form of communication in the world today, and an extremely essential base level infrastructure that no developed
nation should be without. The Phone Connection package is bundled with our dial-up internet packagewhich can
be found below. All other connections and packages are compatible with phones.

Cost per building: 15 NSD
Cost per kilometer: 75 NSD
Speed: N/A

Dial-up Connection
Image

Using the same infrastructure as the Phone Connection package, dial-up brings a very cheap, but slow, basic internet
network. At around 56 kilo-bits per second this package is perfect for newly developed nations and economically
struggling nations on a budget. Fast enough to download 1 photo every 8 minutes.

Cost per building: 30 NSD
Cost per kilometer: 75 NSD
Speed: 56 kbits/s

DSL Connection
DSL ,or digital subscriber line, uses a larger, more advanced version of the phone cable, as well as upgraded phone
Image

exchanges; because of this, it will cost extra, but is well worth it. This package is suited to nations who can afford
extra for their citizens. On average, it is around 5 mega-bits per second it is 5000 times faster than dial-up, enough
to download a 3 minute song in 54 seconds.

Cost per building: 2000 NSD
Cost per kilometer: 400 NSD
Speed: 5 mbits/s

Fiber-coaxial/Cable
Fiber coaxial cable is a hybrid form of copper and fiber optic, it is the same speed as FTTN internet but with one
Image

major difference, it has the ability to use already installed cable TV cables. And is therefore, much cheaper to run,
with some tweaking, we can do an entire cable network for 50,000 credits, no matter the size of the network.
If you would rather have a new hybrid network rolled out whether for cable TV or internet, it is still cheaper
than FTTN. It runs at 50 mega-bits per second, it can download a full length, HD movie in 11 minutes.

Cost per building: 4000 NSD
Cost per kilometer: 1100 NSD
Speed: 50 mbits/s

FTTN Connection
Now we're getting serious! FTTN, or fiber to the node, is basically an DSL connection but instead of having copper
Image

from the phone/internet exchange, it has a small underground or above ground box (node) that the copper connects
into. The node is then connected to a high speed fiber optic cable, this offers much faster speeds because the
further the signal travels through copper, the slower it is. It's like having a fast, micro-exchange on every block.
At 50 mega-bits per second, it can download a full length, HD movie in 11 minutes.

Cost per building: 7000 NSD
Cost per kilometer: 2000 NSD
Speed: 50 mbits/s

FTTH Connection
The fastest, and most expensive. Fiber to the home/premises is a fiber optic cable straight to the home, it requires
Image

a specialized modem to work and can last pretty much forever. It delivers information using light pulses and requires
no electricity to run nodes or exchanges, doesn't suffer from signal loss over distance and is extremely stable. At over
10 giga-bits per second, it can download 3 full length, HD movies per second; the absolute gold standard. Great for
wealthy, large governments that can afford the very best in future proofing.

Cost per building: 13000 NSD
Cost per kilometer: 4000 NSD
Speed: 10 gbits/s

Special Products
_____________________________________________________________________________________________

Satellite Up-link
Using high powered beams from orbiting satellites, this can provide a huge area of land with reasonably good internet
Image

at a fairly low price. It requires a special antenna, but after that it works in the same way a regular modemwould.
Perfect for massive, sprawling nations. At 12 mega-bits per second, it can download a 3 minute song in 14 seconds and
is good for streaming.

Cost per satellite: 12000000 NSD
Cost per square kilometer: 5 NSD
Speed: 12 mbits/s

Fixed Wireless
Using the same 4G technology as mobile/cell phone towers, it can provide high speed internet over a large area very
Image

cheaply, as well as mobile phone connections. Also great for massive sprawling nations which can afford more than
satellite. at 100 mega-bits per second, it can download a full length HD movie in 7 minutes but suffers from instability
and is highly affected by environmental conditions.

Cost per tower: 200000 NSD
Cost per kilometer: 20 NSD
Speed: 100 mbits/s

Cable TV

Postby Hyfling » Thu Sep 19, 2013 8:51 pm

Cable TV
_____________________________________________________________________________________________

HyFi Telecom also operates the largest cable TV/pay TV network in Hyfling, featuring over 6,270 different channels! Unfortunately, due to legal and copyright reasons, not all of these networks
are available to international customers, the total number is reduced to around 2,000. If you would like HyFi to begin broadcasting cable TV in your nation, then please go to the products page.

Featured below are some of Hyfling's most popular television channels, all of these will be included if we start broadcasting in you nation. To begin broadcast of our channels to your nation, to then be sold via subscription to your company's costumers you will either need a coaxial/fiber network, or a satellite/s to broadcast from, you will have to pay for these things though. Or we could handle it all by expanding our cable network into your nation and provide it to your people at no extra charge (you will not earn any money though). But we do require a government's permission to operate within your borders.

The HyFI cable roll-out division, and HyFI cable TV solutions division has reviewed your applications and have decided to ACCEPT them. Very small scale cable TV will be provided to the CatBEATTS Corporate buildings free of charge (the amount of connections is so small, we will just underpin the costs of operation through advertising revenue.

Our skilled IT personnel have been contacted and will begin to fit your Fiber Cable Intranet (OOC: I think this is what you are asking for :)) at a cost of 130,150 HFC (or 65,075 NSD). The expected time of completion is four months. We would like to thank you, once again, for working with us.
