The Company
The original company, named Hillman-Coatalen, was founded by William Hillman with the Breton Louis Coatalen as designer and chief engineer. However, Coatalen left in 1909 to join the Sunbeam Car Company and the company was re-registered as the Hillman Motor Car Company in 1910.
In 1928, Hillman was taken over by Humber and both were taken over by Rootes in 1931. Hillman went on to become the dominant brand within the Rootes empire, alongside Humber, Sunbeam and Singer.
The 1930s saw a return to side valves and in 1932 the first car to carry the Minx name.
After the war the Minx was reintroduced It went through a series of models given Phase numbers and the Phase VIII of 1954 saw the arrival of an overhead valve engine. A complete departure in 1963 was the Hillman Imp using a Coventry Climax all alloy, 875 cc rear engine and built in a brand new factory in Linwood, Scotland.
A new car called the Hunter was introduced in 1966 with, in 1967.
Chrysler had assumed complete control of Rootes by 1967, and the first new Hillman model whose development was financed by the American giant was the Avenger of 1970.
The Avenger and Hunter ranges were rebadged as Chryslers until 1979 when Chrysler sold its European division to Peugeot. At this point, Hunter production was shelved and the Avenger was rebadged as a Talbot until it was finally withdrawn from sale at the end of 1981.
Hillman's Ryton factory closed in January 2007 assembling various Peugeot models for the European market.

The Present
In 2008 a group of investors bought the Hillman brand from Peugeot, and the building of a new factory in Satautey started.
At the same time, a new Technical Centre was set up in Tuineje, where a team of over 200 engineers began working on the development of a full range of models, helped with state-of-the-art technologies.
The factory was finished in the summer of 2009, and it was fully fitted and ready for production in october.

Following its 100 years tradition, Hillman Motors is proud to introduce its new 2010 model range. All models have been designed at our Tuineje Technical Centre and are built to the highest levels of quality at our brand-new factory of Tesejerague, the most modern of Satautey.
All models in Hillman Motors new range have been designed with safety and environment in mind, being equiped with the latest safety features and presenting extremely low levels of CO2 emission.
All the engines are completely new, and offer the perfect balance between superb levels of performance and very high fuel efficiency.
The chassis in all models has been tuned to sport a magnificient blend of precise handling and confort ride, up to the demands of the most demanding driver.
And finally, all cars receive the most complete and advance anti-rust treatment, which allows Hillman Motors to offer our customers a full 12 years anti-rust guarantee across all the 2010 model range, along with our 5 year - unlimited mileage mechanical guarantee.
