The Silver Javelin

The aircraft has been designed from the outset as an affordable and economical aircraft, despite its high speeds and consequent commanding ability to charge premium prices. Although a narrow-bodied aircraft, with only one aisle, the Silver Javelin stretches that layout to accommodate six seats, holding a total of up to 268 passengers depending on configuration.

With a slender beak nose and two retractable canards for improved stability in take-off and landing, modern interior fittings including 3D entertainment systems, and an automatic electronics system that can cope with electronic devices active throughout the journey, take-off, and landing, the Silver Javelin is the perfect addition to any fleet operating major business connections.

The Silver Javelin

(Cargo Variant)

For the military transport variant, it was realized that a single aircraft, with a maximum designated load of 120 tons, was capable of fitting no less than an entire mechanized company of a hundred and twenty men and a platoon HQ (assuming 15 IFVs or Artillery units of 8 tons each and 250 kg per soldier). A suggested purchase of 20 aircraft can thus bring an entire mechanized Brigade (c. 3000 men) to a troubled spot at a speed that will bewilder and wrong-foot your enemies. And in times of peace, a Javelin can be the first on the spot during or after a humanitarian emergency.

This variant comes in a wide plan to allow operators to fit their own preferred interior designs according to their own specifications.

The Whittingnet Hermes

Named after the winged messenger of mythology; the Hermes is a runway-launched single-stage to orbit hypersonic craft powered by an air-breathing rocket engine that can also operate in a closed-cycle with liquid hydrogen and oxygen as its fuel. With a modular cargo bay to fit any cargo, and armed with two reusable boosters, it can transport up to 20 people around the globe or launch 12 tonnes to a 200 km equatorial orbit, bringing down the cost of putting 3 tons into LEO from the current high-end price of around $100 million to about $20 million, and making a space hotel for billionaires economically feasible.

It is, quite simply, our future.

The Starfighter

Designed to protect interests in space, although runway launched like its ancestor, the Whittingnet Hermes (above), the starfighter may also be launched with boosters to give it the range to reach geostationary orbit, where refueling would be necessary for longer journeys. Equipped with a retractable laser cannon and with shrapnel missiles, the starfighter can destroy both enemy satellites and spacecraft. Dogfighting is however discouraged because of the severe energy penalties involved when attempting hypersonic maneouvering.

Since the design is such a potent weapon, and space combat has the potential to create runaway space junk, rendering civilian space flight unprofitable; limitations upon their operation have been made by our government, with operators required to agree to remove space junk caused by the Starfighter's operations at the same rate that they create it.

The Silver Anvil

(Strike Bomber)

Closely based on The Silver Javelin (see top), The Silver Anvil, named after the most dreaded of clouds, is designed to use its great speed to overwhelm air defences. Too large to be stealthy, a concealed approach is generally advised, and the aircraft has been optimized for low-altitude flying as a result. After reaching enemy borders, the aircraft's electronic jamming equipment and chaff should confuse any enemy missiles fast enough to chase it to the other side of the country - attempting to turn the aircraft around over enemy territory is not advised. For a fee of $10 billion we can integrate the electronic systems with your own networks, and the refueling port can be adjusted free of charge.

What The Silver Anvil lacks in stealth it makes up for in firepower, with a 140 ton payload possible, including a recommended 10 tons of chaff. 30-60 tons can be assigned for extra fuel tanks to add 25-51% in range.

For such rapid combat systems, the quick-burning ramjet added under the wings serves to complement the afterburner - and increase the maximum speed beyond Mach 3.8. Care must be taken not to exceed this speed with any regularity: no guarantee on the aircraft's structural integrity is offered if Mach 3.8 is exceeded.

1. Unless otherwise agreed, payments must be made within three days of the receipt of half of the number of aircraft purchased.
2. We would prefer it if payments could be paid up-front or in monthly instalments (with market rates of compound interest on the remainder paid per month) for up to 120 months.

In case you're interested, the design of the Starfighter owes a great deal to Skylon, a most remarkable design. It also naturally incorporates details from the Lockeed Blackbird. Those who wish to ask whether this counts as MT should note that since the NS-verse contains billions of people, when this was first written, most people accepted that with all that superior spending power, prototypes could be brought to production slightly faster. (Five years later, I would argue that MT is now fast catching up with this "NSMT" - give it another few years and we'll be RPing together again)!

The design of the Silver Javelin is indeed based on a super-sized concorde, with a few important updates:
First and most obvious is that the nose of the plane is no longer adjustable. With modern cameras and so on it is less important that pilots have such a clear view of where they can land, so a medium position between the two has been adopted.
Second and also fairly obvious is the introduction of canards of the type used in the Russian equivalent, the Tu-144 (sometimes known as the Concordski). It was noticeable that these canards provided improved control, particularly at low speeds, allowing landings on slightly shorter runways.
Third is the use of the aircraft in new configurations: certainly it is admirably suited as the basis for a supersonic bomber and transport. For civilian airliners, the 6 seat-wide configuration is one of the most economical, even if it requires boarding in a sensible order so as not to clog up the aisles. Indeed more doors have been added to allow rapid boarding from multiple points if an airport is properly configured. This is of course particularly useful for business travelers who are in a hurry: there's no point in wasting time on the ground that you've saved in the air.

If you are seriously desirous of extra leg room, we would suggest the use of 1st class seating: the business class seating gives a seat pitch of 40 inches, with further room under the seat in-front, whereas 1st class allows 64 inches, with a slanted bed-configuration allowing two meters for sleeping in long night-time flights. However, given that no journey should last longer than three hours, the Silver Javelin typically commands premium prices from speed, not excessive comfort.
