About
Mertz International Airport (Aéroport de Metz) is Miraco's largest airport and is located within portions of several communes, 15 km to the northeast of Mertz. Fully opened in 2013, The airport has three terminals: two passenger terminals and one cargo. It serves as the principal hub of Air Miraco, the national flag carrier, as well as being a major hub for Air Miraco Express. The airport is currently managed by the Miraco Aviation Association (MAA) though the government of Miraco is looking into partially privatising the business. Wireless internet connectivity is available for free throughout the airport, and is provided by Global Wireless.
The airport is currently undergoing a massive expansion project which includes a high-speed rail connection to Mertz Central Station, internal railway transport between terminals, numerous hotels, an increase in the amounts of gates, as well as a new small terminal that will serve as the primary home of "Air Miraco Express" and finally a new shopping complex "Air Mall" that is accessible from both passenger terminals. The project is set to be completed early 2014.
