WHO ARE H&S?

H&S Audio are a Strettan based company dealing primarily in the studio monitor market. We design, manufacture and sell products across a range of price points, catering for individuals through to international big business. From humble beginnings in the office of one of the founding partners, the business has faced rapid success and periods of adversity, but has emerged as a leading professional audio manufacturer.

Today, H&S deals in studio monitoring systems and live sound reinforcement, supplying equipment to some of the biggest venues in Stretta - notably the All Maiden Sports Complex in Giroux and the National Ampitheatre in Landstown. Each and every product that leaves the production process is designed and made in Landstown, Stretta (where the first set of monitors were conceived and built), and all of our products are designed with three core tenets in mind, which we call the "H&S Way":

  1. Sound is of paramount importance, looks come second
  2. Whatever the price, it should be built to last
  3. Nothing should be recycled from the past, because the past isn't the future

The H&S Family

Here at H&S we believe that our customers are our family, and like our actual families, they mean the world to us. We offer full support every step of the way, from bespoke installations, on-site product demonstrations, an in-house repair centre and continued support and lifetime guarantee, we like to think that we have everything covered.

Whatever your need, H&S is your solution!

H&S HISTORY

Hill and Sendel (H&S) is a professional audio company that began life as a monitoring solutions manufacturer based in Landstown, Stretta. Set up by Frank Hill and Johann Sendel, their first studio monitor was built in Frank Hill's office, and the first pair was used exclusively in Johann Sendel's mixing studio. After mixing two number 1 albums in the mixing studio, producer Steve Shannon commisioned a second pair from Hill and Sendel. They struggled to reproduce the sound of the first pair, but through their trial and error, they developed a second speaker that was more easily replicable and sounded just as great as the first.

This easily replicated design lead to Hill and Sendel setting up as a business, and marketing their first monitor, the 7010. The first pair - albeit without the H&S branding or model number - still exists in Steve Shannon's personal studio, and the commercially available 7010 that followed enjoyed great success in Strettan recording studios. With the profits from this first venture, Hill moved on to look at varying sizes of the speaker, and eventually produced the 5010 (5" speaker), the original 7010 (7" speaker) and the 8010 (8" speaker), which became known as the X010 range due to the numbering conventions that the range followed.

Following early success, the company began to invest in larger monitors, looking to appeal to huge international studios. With the release of this new range of monitors (nicknamed "Goliath"), the company all but fell into administration. With single monitors costing upwards of $13,000 (at current conversion rates), and still selling at an overall loss, company funds were depleted to the point where H&S had to stop taking new orders for fear it would fail to complete them. After discontinuing the failed Goliath range, the company returned to basics with their "B" revision X010 models - heralded by reviewers as a new era in audio - which sold beyond expectation. These new monitors sold enough to completely repay the huge bank loans that funded them and ultimately helped to ensure H&S's survival.

Today, the company produces a range of monitors including the X010 range (currently in their 4th "D" revision), and manufacture products across a range of price points, aiming to appeal to individuals as well as businesses. Furthermore, they have also moved into live sound, producing the line array systems that exist in the All Maiden Sports Complex in Giroux, amongst other facilities and venues across the nation.

There are currently strong rumours surrounding the company and their future product lines, after a picture of a large condenser microphone featuring the Hill & Sendel logo was released on pro-audio forums.

STUDIO MONITORS

H&S GLD

The GLD-series ("Goliath") studio monitors are now discontinued. Existing customers are still offered full original warranty support.

H&S X010-D

The 5"/7"/8" versions of the classic 7010 that launched H&S, now in their fourth "D" revision, feature the unparalleled sound quality and attention to detail that the X010 series are renowned for.

These are bi-amplified nearfield 2-way monitors, ideal for home studios, workstations and surround sound monitoring. Revision D introduces new reflex porting design, and a more rounded enclosure to minimise diffractions. The drivers are now powered by dedicated amplifiers featuring more sophisticated filtering and overload protection circuitry, and new mounting features have been added to the casing, allowing for wall mounting.

There's a reason the X010 is a design that has stood the test of time, and revision D is the most comprehensive update to the X010 range yet.

H&S PS

With the emergence of home recording, H&S realised that the need for professional monitoring at a price point aimed at home studio owners was a quickly emerging market. To cope with this demand, they released the PS range. The build of the monitors still undergoes the same work that the higher-end X010 range does, but with cheaper components and less advanced features, the PS is able to come in at a relatively cheap price.

These are nearfield 2-way monitors, released in 5", 6" and 8" versions. They feature front firing ports for low frequency extension, Neodymium soft dome tweeters and glass aramid composite cone woofers. There is a selectable voltage control, independent volume control and high frequency level adjust (stepped).

LIVE SOUND REINFORCEMENT

H&S ARTEMIS - MODULAR PA SOLUTION

Note: This product's specifications are based on using with H&S ArtAmp technologies.

The Artemis range is a modular system designed with a very simple view of scalability. The main driving force behind Artemis is to deliver amazing sound using the same components, whether you are in a 1000 capacity music venue or an olympic stadium, with the only difference being the scale of the system. In practice, this enables a contractor to design a wide range of solutions from just 4 core modules.

Uninterrupted high frequency expansion is delivered through the innovative use of flat membrane mid-frequency drivers, delivering a much smoother frequency response and more consistent horizontal coverage. Add to this Artemis Port and Waveguide Technology (APWT), which gives greater positive phase between drivers and ensures greater directionality of sound, and you're arriving at what makes Artemis special!

Flat-membrane drivers ensure completely even and full-range coverage over a full 90º horizontal dispersion. High frequencies remain completely linear, using patented diaphragms that enhance tonal response and long throw.

COMMERCIAL AUDIO

H&S CINEMAX

For too long, home cinemas have suffered from a sound deficit. Whether it is a 5.1 or 7.1 system that is included, there are only one or two people benefiting from the supposed added experience. Now, with dual-firing surround speakers, you can have a system that sounds great even when you're outside of the mythical sweet-spot.

This works by mounting two speakers at a 45º degree angle to one another, with one speaker providing direct surround sound, and the other speaker filling in the rest of the room.

This is supplied in a 5.1 format (CineMax 5) and a 7.1 format (CineMax 7). The same components are used in each, and the specification below is identical. CineMax 5 comes with 1 sub and 5 surround speakers. CineMax 7 comes with 1 sub and 7 surround speakers.

Surround speakers: 2x2.5" tweeters
Sub speakers: 2x5.25" woofers
Power rating: 10-200W (4-8Ω) per channel
Surround size/weight: 157x79x102mm / 1.1kg
Sub size/weight: 414x206x643mm / 15.8kg

Pricing

Sales cost for the CineMax system is as follows:

H&S CineMax 5: $999.95
H&S CineMax 7: $1299.95

PLACEMENT ADVICE

If you should have any questions about placing your H&S system within your cinema/theatre/auditorium, then please do not hesitate to contact us.

As a general guide, the first surround should be placed 1.5m from the back wall, and then at 3m intervals until the final surround is within 0.25m of the total length of the sides. Along the back wall, similar advice is given. Place the first 1.5m from the side wall, and then at 3m intervals along the length of the wall, meeting in the middle. Ideally, the gap between the rear-centre speaker and the two either side should be as close to 3m as possible.

AUTOMOBILE DESIGNS | NEW! |

When H&S launched, they captured a sound so powerful and so grand, the speaker that delivered such a sound is still in production, and still highly sought after. Then, when H&S launched their commercial systems, they designed a product so innovative that people were left wondering how they heard entertainment previously. Through each advancement H&S has astounded and amazed, taking a leading place in your daily routine. Your morning coffee is now served with music from an H&S system, your Friday night movie theatre excursion has an H&S system shaking your seat and caressing your ears, and you can go home to a television with H&S designed speakers built in.

Now, another H&S product enters your world. When a car manufacturer makes a car, they pour their heart and soul into designing the sleek curves, the fine interiors, the electronics, the steering, gearbox, handbrake... alongside this, H&S brings them the perfect audio.

H&S AZIONARE AUDIO DESIGN | NEW! |

At H&S, we understand sound. It's what we do. We understand that each acoustic space is different. It's why the living room is different to the church is different to the opera hall to the local playground. It's just science.

That's why we work with car manufacturers to ensure that their sound system is not an afterthought. Thanks to careful placement of our speakers, designed from the finest materials, all integrated into the very body of the car, your sound is yours to own. Our Rohacell subs, kevlar woofers and aluminium tweeters deliver the rock-bottom lows and shrill highs that you expect to hear, and you will hear them no matter where you sit thanks to the immersive environment we create.

Pricing

This product will be priced on a case by case basis. This is a service for businesses only, and cannot be purchased as an aftermarket extra for your vehicle.

Subject: Attico's Drinkeries Quote

Mr Harris,

Thank you for your reply and your interest in H&S products. I have outlined a quote for your business based on the information that you have provided and through my own personal research into your needs and requirements as a business. This has been broken down for you, so if there is anything to add, I can of course ammend this quote.

For all 6829 Drinkeries worldwide, there is a need for a PA system for music evenings, and speaker systems surrounding the pub for ambience music, quiz evenings or sports broadcast. For the majority of pub/bar venues, our top-range modular systems would be over the top, and so I would recommend our brand new Forseti range. This would allow for the great sound quality that H&S are famed for, as well as offer a compact solution should the need arise to install/uninstall the system on a night-by-night basis (such as for non-permanent stage areas). If any of your establishments should offer larger areas than found in traditional pubs/bars, or have separate areas for live music, then looking at more powerful systems may be beneficial, but I could find no evidence of this being the case.

The surround system would be supplied from our CineMax range. They feature small speaker units that are similar to home entertainment systems, which would be able to slot into corners of rooms and tight spaces with ease. For each venue, we will also supply a third party audio-switcher to allow for multiple sources to use this surround system. Practically speaking, this would enable three channels of input, so your TV audio output, music system output (such as music PC, radio or MP3 player) and wireless microphone (for quizzes, say) to all be plugged in and be switched between with the use of a simple 3-button selector.

The standard costing for this solution (per venue, less applicable taxes) is broken down as follows:

ItemQuantityUnit costLine Total
Forseti 122$1,200$2,400
Forseti 12S2$1,525$3,050
CineMax (Custom) Sub Units2$320$640
CineMax (Custom) Surround Units10$1401,400
Third party 3-channel switcher1$350$350
Sub-total$6,260

This is my best "guess" at the most cost-effective and workable solution for each of your venues based on the information I was able to find, but certainly isn't the only solution. The total cost assuming this solution for every venue is $42,749,540 not inc applicable taxes or delivery (which will vary by venue). I estimate that we can fill the first 900 venues as soon as possible, and can begin larger scale production in order to fill your order, which should be fully completed in 8-10 months.

Once again, if you have any questions at all, you can contact me directly at this e-mail address.

Kind regards,

Marcus Winters

Hello from Next Ingenious Notion Technologies & Gaming Systems. As the world-leader in televisions and among the leader across a wide swath of electronic and technological devices for consumers and businesses alike, we would be interested in working with you to create a new speaker setup capable of performing admirably in an incredibly thin television. Lets face it - todays televisions, as thin as they are - are fantastic for just about every aspect. Except sound.

We would like to work with you to improve upon speaker technology so that we can offer speakers than will not embarrass anyone, and offer bass that will grab attention. Please note that our televisions come as thin as 0.2" on our OLED screens, meaning that these speakers must be incredibly compact. I realize this will be a challenge to offer clear, loud sound that is also deep. But with today's technologies, I believe working with an audio company such as yours, that we can make it happen.

Likewise, I would be interested in working with you on a Next Ingenious Notion-branded Hill & Sendel speaker setup that can be purchased with our televisions. We would be interested in four setups - a single sound bar, a two-piece sound bar plus wireless active sub, a 1000W 5.1 sound system with a receiver capable of handling up to 8K resolution and 3D pass-through, and a 1400W 7.2 sound system with a receiver capable of handling up to 8K resolution and 3D pass-through.

These four new speaker systems would be sold in stores along side other Next Ingenious Notion products.

I look forward to hearing back from you on this proposal.

Subject: NIN Product Partnership

Mr Tarka,

I'm contacting you in response to your message expressing an interest in building sound systems for installation in or sale along side your televisions. As you may be aware, we have previously released our CineMax system for home audio, which has been selling well. This doesn't quite meet your 1000W specification for surround systems, but we will despatch our CineMax 7 system (the 7.1 variation) to you for a reference point on what we are currently producing.

I have also received clearance to tell you that the solo or twin sound bar is something that we are already developing, and building in your needs and wishes at this stage would be possible. I would like to get you and your company involved in this latest product, with the ultimate view of supplying them for sale alongside your products. The rest of these speaker products can enter R&D alongside these sound bars.

Your built-in speakers for a 0.2" TV is a challenging concept, but is one that we believe would be possible. This will require greater collaboration, as to deliver the bass required, the obvious route is to take advantage of porting technologies, which would need to be built in or around the existing TV technology (so a reference for the TV would be beneficial).

As the Future Technologies Manager here at H&S, all of the technology you have spoken about has me greatly excited. However, I have spoken with upper management and with our marketing departments, and there are some reservations about your plans for selling our speakers. As a high end pro-audio manufacturer, we would find it very hard to have our products packaged up under another name. We would instead propose for the built in sound on TVs to be left up to you, but for the other systems to be sold alongside, for our packaging to represent H&S as the manufacturer, and to state that it is "perfect for use alongside NIN televisions", or wording to that effect.

If you'd still like to go ahead, we can begin looking in these new directions.

Travis Lister;

Thank you for getting back to me on this proposal. I understand the reservations with regards to selling your products under a different name, and that is something I believe I have a solution to. As we would still like to have a 1000W 5.1 and a 1400W 7.2 system, we could work closely with you on two new speaker systems, dubbed "Next Ingenious Notion Edition" 5.1 and 7.2 speaker systems. We would like to target 7.2, not 7.1, as the top-level system to allow a multi-room setup for our high-end customers. As you are well aware, high-end users spending heavily on the best, expect the best to go above and beyond. Offering this specialty 7.2 system would be ideal for such clients.

With regards to the soundbars and the built-in's, we would be pleased to work closely with you on these two projects. Being that both of our companies produce high-end products for high-end customer needs, this partnership, we feel, will be greatly beneficial to both Hill & Sendel as well as Next Ingenious Notion.

Jeff Tarka,

Not only do I believe that this solution will appease our marketing department, I also believe, like you do, that this will prove to be a very beneficial venture for both our respective companies. With this in mind, I have no hesitation in recommending that H&S assign research and development time to these new products (as new products, and as an extension to our already existing sound bar development). I cannot at this moment give you a working time frame for these projects, but can assure you that I will personally keep you in the loop, and work closely with you to make sure that these products are to spec.

The "NIN Edition" products will be our main focus, and I will inform you as soon as we have made developments on this.

I look forward to a healthy working relationship, and to some great sounding H&S/NIN products!

At Trephin Motors, we take pride in our vehicles quality. From the finely stitched leather, to the machine brushed nickle trim, to the precision built engines, our engineering and design team are dedicated to the making of the world's finest vehicles. And much like you, the high quality of every sound is a key factor. For example, the magnificent sound piping out of the large 2.75" dual exhausts coming from the powerful 6.3 liter V8 in our Predator is finely tuned to offer a deep, powerful rumble, capable of being loud enough to wake a city.

And this is why we are coming to you. As important as the quality of sound coming out of every exhaust pipe and intake of our vehicles is, the sound coming out of the speakers for the stereo is just as important to us. We would like to work with you on engineering top-quality automotive audio solutions that will go into our mid brand, Trephin, and luxury brand, Ando, in order to provide our customers with the purest, most incredible audio quality possible in a vehicle.

I look forward to hearing back from you and working on this project.

Thank you for your time.

Hill & Sendel Audio

Subject: In-vehicle Audio

Mr Ortiz,

I have to say that it always excites me to receive correspondence from a ViZion based company, and Ando-Trephin are no exception.

In-vehicle audio is an area of development that we at Hill & Sendel have never contemplated. As you are probably aware, we do deal in a wide-range of loudspeakers catering to a wide market of professional and commercial clients, and if there were a company to provide you with the premium audio quality that you desire in your motor-vehicles, then Hill & Sendel are it.

As future technologies manager, it is my duty to look at new areas of development, and decide on the next step. In-vehicle audio is an exciting new idea for me, but I can instantly see a number of challenges with the development. While it would be a fairly simple task to supply loudspeaker units to you for installation in your vehicles, that is only half of the battle. As with each auditorium, cinema or living room, each model of car has a different acoustic space. To provide a truly exceptional sound to your customers, it would be necessary for us to evaluate a solution for each individual model.

This is by no means a problem, and we can supply you with details of the technologies that we would use to realise a solution, as well as rough details on what would constitute an average specification for the speaker system. However, as I said, this is only half of the challenge, and we would need to work very closely with you to build a truly exceptional experience into your range.

What I would propose is that we come up with a rough specification for you, and then we can send a dedicated consultant to work with you on a semi-permanent basis should you wish to proceed, who would be able to work alongside your engineers to find the best solution for each model.

Let me know your thoughts on this,

Travis Lister

Travis Lister,

It is a pleasure to hear back from you! We are very excited to work with you on this project, and are most certainly aware that each vehicle has a different accustical need that must be tuned to that model for the best sound possible. We currently work with some quality companies, such as Bose and ViZionarian-based Saunders Audio. However, we have come to the decision that using world-renowned and top-shelf Hill & Sendel Audio will be the best option for us moving forward from a quality and marketing stance.

Your proposal of coming up with rough specifications, and then sending consultants to fine-tune the audio experience in each vehicle is perfect, and I look forward to completing this partnership!

Thank you for your time.
