Who Are We?

Who are we? We are Grand Bahama Naval, the finest of Grand Bahama, serving Grand Bahama for about six decades! We were founded in 1954 by Nathan Kerrigan as a fishing dock, but gradually expanded into container vessels, fishing boats, and corvettes and frigates. Headquartered in the city of Freeport, we are developing the future in container vessels. We hope you choose us.

Freeport Shipyard

The Freeport Shipyard was founded in 1954 by Nathan Kerrigan as a small fishing boat shipyard. The main reason for the shipyard, known then as the Kerrigan Dock, was to export fish to other islands and receive lobster from McLean's town. In 1955, Wallace Groves, a Virginia financier, was granted several thousand acres around the Dock. He called this settlement Freeport. In 1960, Kerrigan went out of business and sold his dock to Groves, who was interested in developing trade. He started several drydocks in the area to help build container ships. When Groves died in 1975, he left the docks to his son, Marcus Groves, who continued to expand the docks to include fishing boats and corvettes, as well as the classic container vessels.

Queen Conch-class

Postby Grand Bahama » Tue Feb 26, 2013 4:00 pm

Background

Grand Bahama recently obtained independence from the Bahamas, although Bahamian military forces refused to leave from Sweeting Cay. The Grand Bahamian Marine Corps launched an ill-fated assault on the island. The defenders were dug in and well defended. The Grand Bahamian Navy had obtained several landing craft from outside companies, but these landing craft did not work well in the assault. Thousands of men died when the assault craft broke down. The Grand Bahamian Navy realized that it would need to develop a better assault craft that could carry more men safely. The end result was the Queen Conch- class landing craft. Capable of carrying up to 800 fully clad marines, this ship is equipped with the finest of Grand Bahamian technology.

Armament and Fire Control

Image

The main armament of this class is the RIM-116 Rolling Airframe missile launcher, although these have been specially configured to accept most types of missiles. The ones the Grand Bahamian Navy uses are Sky World Weapons SA100 Pelican model, which are lightweight weapons. These launchers are mainly used to protect the vessel from point-blank cruise missiles as well as low-flying bomber aircraft. The launchers themselves are specially equipped to roll around very fast to track quick-moving aircraft, but the missiles themselves are infrared homing missiles. On board a Queen conch-class landing craft there are three of these missile launchers.

The other main armament of this class is the Mk44 Bushmaster II 30mm caliber chain gun, capable of firing 100-200 rounds per minute. This weapon is intended to clear out any defending vessels or defense installations if they haven't been cleared out already. On board a Queen conch-class landing craft there are five of these chain guns.

There are several of the Mark 41 Vertical Launching Systems on board a Queen conch-class. These launchers provide rapid-fire capacity against hostile threats.

Image

Depending on the variant of the landing craft, there are between eight and ten Browning heavy machine guns on board.

Powerplant

There are four Bahama Engine MD5000 turbocharged marine diesel engines on board a Queen conch-class. The normal speed of this craft is twenty-two knots, although in emergency situations this craft can go to its high speed of thirty-one knots.

Dear sir:

Your products look very good to us and would do good in the market, except they do not have an international reputation. We do. We would like to acquire your company to add to the Sky World Group. We would pay up to $20 billion for it and give you 15% of the profits.

Sincerely,
Bendra Cieasu
CEO, Sky World Aerospace
