For more efficient operations, we've chosen to consolidate airlines with low frequency and single destination only operations and to move extraregional flights exclusively to the E Terminal. This means less dedicated gates for individual airlines and that Terminal A will now only serve Maredoratic destinations while Terminal E will serve all destinations outside Maredoratica and only certain very long haul routes within Maredoratica, such as to Rochehaut and United Coronado. We apologize for any immediate inconvenience this may cause.
"I shall make this city [Windstrand] such as a door unto the world, and may she in time amass untold riches from all it's four corners."
King Frederick II of Sondstead in correspondence upon creating the Sondsteadish East India Company, 1622
For more than fifty years since it first opened it's gates in 1960, Nörditser Windstrand International Airport has been the chief gateway to Sondstead, the country's "door unto the world", and one of the most important points in it's domestic transportation network. With three runways, five terminals, and facilities capable of receiving even the largest of commercial aircraft, it is the largest airport in the country and is capable of handling thirty million passengers annually.
The need for large airport in the Greater Windstrand region was recognized as early as 1941. At the time, the airport serving Windstrand was Windstrand City Airport, not far from the city center in West Kafmenensey. This location created restraints on airport expansion and noise levels, and so in 1955 the Federal Diet approved the construction of an airport in the small town of Nörditser, 45 kilometers (28 miles) north of Windstrand. Construction began the next year. Upon it's opening in 1960, the airport had two runways of 2,600 meters, two passenger terminals, and a cargo terminal. This was supplemented with the addition of a heliport in 1964 and the opening of a third terminal and a 3,700 meter runway in 1986, allowing the operation of jumbo jets.
Nörditser Windstrand International Airport shares it's runways and behind the scenes services with RSoAF Nörditser logistical air base, the main centre for the Royal Sondsteadish Air Force's strategic airlift and aerial refueling assets.

Nörditser Windstrand's five terminals are designated A Terminal through E Terminal, with the designations running alphabetically south to north and east to west, with the exception of E Terminal. A Terminal is located at the southeast side of the main building and has fourteen gates for international flights, with B Terminal on the opposite, northwestern side and has fourteen gates for domestic flights. C Terminal northwest of the main building handles cargo flights. The much smaller D Terminal is west of the main building in the infield and serves helicopter flights. E Terminal is southeast of the main building and has twenty gates for international flights.
For internal transportation, the airport has an underground people mover system, the LoftMetro, which links the terminals together with stations beneath E Terminal, the Gateway Concourse, and the D Terminal/Air traffic control area. Adjacent to the Gateway Concourse LoftMetro platform is the underground Nörditser / Löfthefn station of the Windstrand S-Ban suburban rail network, with service available to Windstrand North Station and to high-speed rail connections at Karlsbankjr. The airport is also served by two motorway exits.
Shops and eateries are present at the LoftMall, located in the Gateway Concourse. Also on site across from the Gateway Concourse is the Hestia™ Windstrand Airport Hotel, a property of Sondstead's premier hospitality corporation, Hestia Accommodations A/F. For your enjoyment during your stay, the Windstrand Museum of Flight, featuring a number of exhibits of both civilian and military aircraft and other items associated with the history of Sondsteadish aviation, is located between the hotel and the motorway.
