Even in these turbulent, recessionary times, MCI continues to ship what you need, when you need it, for affordable prices. We will never charge you more than it costs to send a comparable package by post. MCI is committed to the preservation of the environment. To prove it, we only use clean diesel fuel to power our vessels, secured from our corporate partner, Pratt & Ronn Oil. We do not pass this on in the form of higher prices, to you, however, and will always do out utmost to keep our prices fair and affordable.
If you have a small package or delivery that requires speedy transport, please visit the website of our partner, ViZionair Cargo. Customers who exclusively use ViZionair Cargo for their shipping needs can also avail of a 5% discount here. The same applies to our customers at their website.
Fleet and Shipping Information
The LM Slieve Mish being loaded in port.
The fleet also includes thirty nine crane-equipped Sejanus-class container ships, with a TEU capacity of 5,300, built by Maltropian firm Maritime Imperial. These vessels are sufficiently small to pass through most major canals and conform to the proposed Colimax standard.
Oil shipments, and the delivery of other liquid cargoes, are carried aboard our four recently purchased Muscovy-class supertankers, designed and built by Philadelphia Shipbuilding Corporation. These impressive vessels have a maximum cargo capacity of 685,480 tonnes of oil, thereby allowing the efficient delivery of large quantities of fuel.
MCI also operates four Ardenfontein-class icebreakers, purchased from Maltropian-based shipwrights' firm Ardnacrusha Naval Yards. These vessels are used to keep our sea lanes free of ice in cold weather.
All cargo ships are geared for carrying containers of dimensions 20' by 8' by 8' 6", or a volume of 2,720 cubic feet. In general, we will not transport in any form other than TEU intermodal containers. The standard rate for this form of transport is, at present, NSD 275 per container. All shipments of more than 25 containers will receive a discount of 10%.
History
Maltropian Cargo International was founded in 1843 under the trading name "McCarthy and Sons Freight". The firm was then, as now, a family-run business, owned by James McCarthy who would deliver cargo for citizens of Corcaigh Nua throughout northwest Paradoxia aboard a tall ship leased from the Royal Navy. By 1850, he had earned sufficient money to purchase the ship outright, and within a few years had expanded his business to four fast corvettes.
By 1900 the grandchildren of James owned a dozen ships and had built a pier in Argensborough's extensive docklands, creating what would become the firm's second largest base of operations. The stretch of ocean between Corcaigh Nua and Argensborough became among the busiest in Maltropia, as other firms entered the market to compete with McCarthy and Sons. Despite the intense rivalry, McCarthy and Sons had a head start on the new entrants and remained ahead in size and revenue. In 1942 they officially changed the business' name to Maltropian Cargo International and began the first commercial deliveries outside of Paradoxia. This also marked the beginning of MCI's buying of steel ships, gradually replacing the wooden vessels by 1962. In 1989 the firm placed its largest ever order, for twenty five steel-hulled cargo ships, all of which remain in service today.
