With the failure of the nuclear power plant in Ohm, the entire city was in a deep freeze and many people who were in the cities froze to death with the petrol shortages from the war. This whole matter left Hergen with a more painful perspective on the beauty and pain of the snowfall. How could they have known that they would need the oil from offshore so badly? The destruction of the oil well not only posed environmental hazards, but getting it under control during a war with a full naval onslaught? It was madness beyond conception.

"Hergen! Oi!! Get yer sorry lollygagging ass over here!" The Foreman said with a frown. "We're outta oil again! Go call the service transport and tell them to get more oil on the double, lad or we'll be in a world of shit!"

"Aye, I'm on it." He said as he dialed the number on the cellphone and his face fell.

Dear Sirs,

I am offering the following advice to enable you to better price your diamonds:

Diamonds are not priced by the ounce, but by carat; incorporated into that price is the cut, quality and color. Raw diamonds intended for industrial use are not the same as diamonds meant for jewelery. A completely colorless diamond with no flaws (inclusions) weighing a half-carat could be worth more than a one-carat diamond of poorer quality.

A nice-quality, 1-carat diamond sells for approximately 5,000 USD. There are 142 carats in one ounce. That means 1-carat diamonds sell for 5,000 USD x 142, or about 710,000 USD per ounce. Poorer quality diamonds are worth much less. 70% of all mined diamonds are set aside for industrial uses (drill parts, surgical equipment, lasers... even light bulbs) and many nations are turning towards synthetic diamonds for these needs; the cost for synthetics is far below that of natural diamonds.

You are offering "Pure diamonds/ounce: NS$3,100,571.82" which seems grossly inflated even with conversion and could be nothing more than diamond chips. 3M USD would purchase the Allnatt diamond, one of the most expensive diamonds in the world - rare in quality. It is 101.29 carats (20.258 g).
