Summary: Claiming to be a historical treatise, the Testament of Man describes the events surrounding the rise and fall of an unnamed mythical figure called the Emperor of Man, and his eventual Ascension to god-hood. However, it focuses less on the actual details of the events and more on debating the philosophical cause and effect, in particular the need for virtues such as compassion, duty and humility to temper sins like selfishness, treachery and unwarranted pride.
Despite the initial dry and preaching tone, it is a surprisingly interesting book. The parts regarding the "historical events" reads more like a fantasy novel than a textbook, full of witty anecdotes, insightful allegories and amusing metaphors.
