I write to you with some excitement regarding the request made by your office to produce a customised version of the VP90 Velocirapator for the Amastol armed forces in .360 Auto. My engineers have completed an initial feasibility study using the .357 SIG cartridge as a model which identified a number of challenges facing a rechambering and modification of the VP90 Velociraptor into the VP90-360. The results of this work also indicate that these technical issues can be successfuly addressed, and both I and my engineers are confident of being able to proceed to low rate production of 2,000 items in a timely manner.

Considering the short timetable suggested by your letter, this work can be completed and your order shipped in as short of 6 to 8 NS weeks assuming the results of computer modelling and testing have been accurate. In the meantime I would suggest that a number of weapons chambered in the 9 mm Para/Luger cartridge be supplied on an interim basis to meet your urgent operational requirements, and which can be later modified to a VP90-360 standard once development has been completed.

I would be grateful to accept whatever engineering data you can supply us, including manufacturing dies and schematics, ballistic data and sample ammunition and weapons, all of which will greatly help to expedite our work. I write to you to confirm the interim delivery of 500 VP90 Velociraptor Personal Defence Weapons chambered in 9x19mm Parabellum and to update you on progress on the development of the VP90-360 Personal Defence Weapon.

Using the dies and schematics you have supplied our engineers have now implemented a number of modifications to the VP90 Velociraptor that will enable it to chamber and fire the .360 Auto cartridge. I am pleased to report that a number of prototype weapons have been fabricated and are currently undergoing bench, range and torture testing in our laboratories.

The work done has entailed a slight enlarging of the frame, reciever body and magazine well and an increase in the profile of the pistol grip to accept a larger magazine. As anticipated the larger cartridge has reduced the magazine capacity to just 15 rounds.

A major challenge was the magazine feed system, which had to be entirely redesigned included a new magazine to hold the larger pseudo-10 mm cartridges and an expansion of the aperture of the magazine well inside the pistol grip, as well as a new follower and strengthened feed lips. To manage recoil the cyclic has also been lowered and springs and operating rods strengthened.

The basic operating system has been retained, with bolt, head space, chamber, bore and barrel adjusted as appropiate. These modifications have been designed to be simple drop-in replacements for the breechblock, barrel and springs. To simplify conversion the interim delivery of 500 VP90 Velociraptors we have sent you have been manufactured in the larger form factor ready for takedown and conversion to the VP90-360 configuration.

Early results have been promising. Range testing has shown that the rechambered weapon retains its accuracy when used with both grips and the folding stock, though an increase in recoil makes accurate firing with one hand no better than ‘spray and pray.’ Torture tests have demonstrated equal reliability to the baseline VP90 model. While the new weapon is slightly enlarged and heavier than a standard VP90 it shares the same compact size, ambidextrous handling and reliability and maintenance attributes.

A first batch of 50 weapons in the new configuration and 50 conversion kits will be supplied in the next week and it is expected that low rate production will begin within the month. Specifications of the new VP90-360 variant is enclosed below:
