Re-introducing E-motion: Half the cylinders, double the driving pleasure.

Image

For several years, VLT has provided the world with the best compromise between consumption and driving pleasure through its range of E-Motion engines; diesel and petrol engines with minimal displacement, maximum capacity. Today, VLT presents an expansion to the E-Motion range by offering E-Motion DUAL; half the cylinders, double the driving pleasure.

The basis of the E-Motion DUAL system is a newly engineered family of three- and four-cylinder engines which closely rely on TCi technology to provide maximum power at minimal displacement.

TCi technology is designed to develop maximum horsepower from a smaller engine, through the principle of turbocharging. Equipped with a variable geometry turbocharger, the engines can provide the best possible power output over a very wide rpm range, meaning that the engine is easier to drive and will perform better in a variety of circumstances.

The engine is connected to a 9-speed VLT A94 automatic transmission, which will provide the perfect combination between comfort, economy and performance, especially due to its ability to be configured in various drive modes, which affect the gearshifting behaviour of the gearbox. The gearbox is as standard connected to both a shifter in the center console and paddle shifters on the steering wheel; the driver may choose to use either.

The most important new function of the E-Motion DUAL system is however an electric motor, wedged between the engine and gearbox. Depending on the version, the DC electric motor provides as much as 74 kW (100 PS), and will always provide drive to the wheels. The specific setup of the system means that the electric motor is completely able to move the car by itself, and depending on the battery pack, this results in a fully electric range of 30-50 km. After this, the internal combustion engine will automatically start in order to reinforce the electric engine. The internal combustion engine will also be started in case a lot of power is suddenly demanded from the driveline, or when the car exceeds the maximum speed of the fully electric mode, which is 120 km/h (75mph). In order to make sure that the combustion engine is able to start as quickly as possible, a belt will rapidly initiate the starter engine, and subsequently bring the engine to the right rpm range, allowing the combustion engine to join in with the electric engine seamlessly. The drive-by-wire pedals are able to sense the pedal pressure exerted, thus making the car able to prepare the combustion engine for its task, even when its services are not required yet.

Image

Depending on the VLT model the DUAL system is implemented in, there is a lithium-ion battery pack to power the electric motor located either under the floor of the passenger compartment or above the rear axle, below the boot. This battery pack can provide as much as 15 kWh, depending on the model. Nominally, this should be enough to allow a range of 30-50 km, depending on the driving conditions and the style of driving. The battery pack is normally recharged by plugging it in to a charging station or a wall outlet, with the charging system onboard the DUAL system capable of handling as much as 135 kW of charge being applied at any one time, enough to recharge the battery pack in less than 10 minutes. When plugged in to a regular 230 V 2.3 kW power outlet, the battery pack can recharge itself in around 6 to 7 hours. To improve power consumption, the DUAL system makes use of regenerative braking (in which power is fed back into the battery pack when slowing down), which can be regulated in strength; brake regeneration can be switched off entirely, or at the other extreme, it can be set so powerful that letting go of the throttle will automatically induce energy regeneration and braking, thus allowing for 1-pedal driving. Furthermore, the combustion engine will slowly recharge the electric engine as it is used, unless the battery pack is fully charged.

This makes the DUAL system a remarkably fuel efficient system, whilst also allowing for highly potent drivelines. A VLT L5 DUAL-D, fitted with a 225 PS 2-litre Diesel engine and a 60 kW (82 PS) electric engine, can attain a fuel consumption of less than 3l/100 km or 78 MPG whilst providing a combined power rating of 280 PS, the power commonly provided by a performance 6-cylinder engine.

DUAL drivelines will first be introduced on the new VLT L5, coming Q2 2014, together with a line of new TCi and TCD which will also feature as the combustion engines in the E-Motion DUAL systems. From there on, the new L3 and L2 models (expected Q3/4 2014) will also feature DUAL drivelines, with the L6, L7 and S/X model ranges being updated later.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for your letter. We understand this issue that you have with the L1, as the offering may simply not cater to the demands of the clients in the Greater Vakolicci Haven. We can confirm to you that we do not require you to stock this particular model at your dealerships anymore, however we do not require any of our dealerships to stock up on cars in any case. In the Van Luxemburger market, for example, approximately 90% of our cars are built to customer specification and not bought off a dealership lot.

Therefore, we see no issues in discontinuing the stocking of L1 models, in fact we would be willing to buy back any remaining stock you may have sitting in lots, so that we can redistribute these to markets where the L1 sells better. However, we would encourage you to still print brochures and specification sheets for this model and have these available in your dealership, so that an interested customer can still order the model to his specifications if interested. This could thus still result in 150-200 sales per year, offsetting the cost of printing brochures, as these will probably not be much higher than several thousand dollars.

Hoping to have answered your question,

Kind regards,

Cristiano Marino

Greetings to whomever it may concern at VLT, the Government of Elke and Elba would like to purchase the following vehicles:

740 VLT L3 1.4 TCi 200 Saloon, with all additional addons (for use of our police officers and members of the judiciary in EnE and the Dominions)
300 VLT L5 2.0 TCi 250 Saloon, with all additional addons (for use by EnE's ambassadors worldwide and our foreign emissaries)
55 VLT L6 3.0 TCi-6, with all additional addons (for use by normal Three Estates members of EnE, and foreign guests)
10 VLT L7 3.5 TCi-8, with all additional addons (for use by the Head and Deputy Heads of the Three Estates of EnE)

In addition to the above, we have the following request:
1. Driving wheel on the right, for EnE drives on the left,
1. Replacement of the VLT logo with the three lions logo (as seen above in our letterhead) as per EnE regulations, both in the interior and exterior,
2. Replacement of the centre seats in the L6 and L7 with storage space/cup holders etc, not unlike the Mercedes-Benz CLS Class,
3. Painting of the L3 and L5 in special matte white paint, with the abovementioned three lions and the letters "On Government Service", applied in the same style as the letterhead at the front doors below the window.

We hope that VLT is able to accede to our request and we hope for your favourable reply.

Mr. Marino,
On behalf of Della Barecci unitet conglomerated holdings corporation, I would like to thank you for your clarification.

However, I would like to inform you of a profitable opurtunity. The GVH is a large nation, with a booming economy. For obvious reasons, we have a lot of extremely rich indeviduals who are in charge of entire areas of the country, who often like to compete amongst themselves on the quality of their posessions.

This means that the VLT L8 is in extremely high demand. Mr. Marino, in the last year alone, DBUCHC exceeded your production of this particular vehicle by 1100 vehicles. Consequently, I believe that it would be in both of our interests if a factory was opened in the GVH to produce the VLT l8 to customer specifications.
Obviously, this factory would be expensive and so I am authorised to offer a discount of 35 % off the market rate within the GVH to build this factory to your exact specifications. Should this be expected, you can expect communication from Della Barecci Architecture within the next 7 days.

Hoping this communication finds yourself and your family in good health, fortune and prosperity,
Miralim Tranjic.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for your letter. Whilst we appreciate your offer for the manufacture of the L8, it is important to understand that we build the L8 in limited numbers partly because our suppliers cannot deliver more of the parts that we need, at the quality that we specify. As the L8 is a very expensive automobile, fittings of the highest possible quality must be implemented, and we continuously cooperate with our partners and suppliers to increase the supply pool of these parts from our trusted suppliers. However, as it stands, the supply of parts remains constrained and thus the addition of extra production capacity is likely to go to waste.

In addition to this, our L8 facility only hires workers who have long service records in manufacturing and assembling quality products, or are the result of our own in-house training. This means that hiring additional workers is not an easy task, as we are hiring from a hotly contested pool of qualified workers which are few and far inbetween.

Finally, the L8 is the result of a purely Van Luxemburger operation, and we feel that this is part of the appeal of the car, and the air of quality that surrounds it. Therefore, however qualified foreign facilities may be, we would not want assembly or manufacture to take place elsewhere. Thus, for now, we are afraid that we cannot deliver more VLT L8's than our current capacity, however rest assured that we are constantly working to improve and expand this capacity.

Hoping to have answered your question,

Kind regards,

To: Francis Waterman, General Liaison, VLT Automotive Motorsport
From: Harris Read, Team Manager, Team Allianz VLT
Subject: 2013 SuperFormula World Championship Debrief

Hello Francis,

How are you? As you know, VLT continues to find success in the SuperFormula World Championship since first joining the series as an engine supplier for Arthur Automotive in 2009. Last season, we "rebranded" the VLT-Arthur team as the VLT factory team to exploit a loophole that would have strapped us with the underperforming SF1 chassis for a second season. The all-new, all-VLT RF13 chassis dominated the 2013 season. For 2014, Team Allianz VLT is again set to pilot the 2013-spec VLT RF13 chassis powered by the VLT EMR13-C2 powerplant (as per series regulations).

Here's an update on the team; Team Allianz VLT won the 2013 SuperFormula World Drivers' Championship and Team Championship with driver Sara Ulric in the RF13 chassis. Ulric and new teammate Kaija Ulander finished first and second in the Drivers' Championship (a mere five points apart) to secure the Team Championship. Our customer teams, Riva (Spain) and Kapitaal (Netherlands) finished second and third in the Team Championship, earning VLT the SuperFormula Car of the Year award. Kapitaal driver Jackie Caldeira was named Rookie of the Year with two victories. All together, the three VLT teams earned 21 victories, 21 pole positions, and 21 fastest laps in 2013.

It was a stunning reversal from a disappointing 2012 season that saw VLT finish 9th in the Team Championship without a solitary victory.

2013 SEASON REVIEW
The 2013 season was a staggering triumph after the disappointment of 2012. Only our 2011 season (in which we set numerous single-season records) could compare. Perhaps more important, 2013 proved that VLT could produce a winning all-electric racing car, thus quieting some of the skepticism in the paddock. Our concerns about the reliability of the EMR13-C2 powerplant proved unfounded, and we were regularly able to produce more than 670 kW of power. The RF13 chasis, paired with the EMR13-C2 powerplant, proved to be the class of the field, and it should remain highly competitive in 2014. Although we forfeited all of the SuperFormula records and awards associated with the Arthur name when we rebranded last season, we've started a new era of success for the VLT marque in this series.

2014 NEXT STEPS
SuperFormula rules stipulate that all manufacturers must freeze chassis and engine development for a period of two seasons after the introduction of a new chassis/powerplant. For us, this is good news; we're pleased to continue with the RH13/EMR13-C2 combination for another season. In 2013, our chief rivals (Manetti and Protégé) competed using their 2012-spec contenders. They are scheduled to introduce new chassis/powerplants in 2014, and they must be feeling the pressure to catch up to our massive lurch forward since 2012. Interestingly, British manufacturer Swift has decided to use their 2012 chassis/powerplant again in 2014 with the aim of introducing a new contender in 2015 (the same year we're scheduled to debut a new SuperFormula chassis/powerplant). This will likely put them at an extreme disadvantage for the upcoming season, but we should pay attention to any news coming from their camp; I believe they have made this choice with the aim to leapfrog our progress in 2015.

Regarding our driving talent, I believe we have the best driver pairing on the grid; Ulric and Ulander were the class of the field in 2013, and I see no reason to believe that would change in the near future. Their PR power is also noteworthy. We have saved our lucrative Mobil 1 sponsorship largely based on their interest in using Ulric and Ulander in an advertising campaign. This is especially unique in an era that has witnessed oil/petroleum sponsorship of SuperFormula teams nearly cease to exist.

Although I can't promise anything, I feel supremely confident that Team Allianz VLT will continue to find success in 2014. As the race team fights to defend our titles, our focus will turn to the 2015 contender (tentatively named RF15). The only planned change to the SuperFormula regulations are an increase in the race distances. This will test our battery life and overall reliability and produce more stress on our long-distance Pirelli tires. However, I believe we are up to the task. There will be many long nights ahead as we develop the 2015 challenger, but at least we can enjoy the spoils of 2013 as Team Allianz VLT fights onward.

RECIPIENT: Estenia

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for your application and your interest in our firm. We have considered your application and we indeed intend to expand to Estenia. To accomplish this, we are looking to establish a subsidiary (VLT Estenia), of which the headquarters will also serve as the largest VLT dealership in the country, a so-called 'Flagship Store'. Furthermore, these headquarters will preferably also offer an undercome for storage facilities for our spare parts, and will also serve as the headquarters for our subsidiaries, Monteluci di Estenia and Lepanto Estenia.

Dealerships will be assigned as quickly as possible. VLT prefers to maintain a network of franchised dealerships, entirely operated by native employees and management. In order to make sure enough demonstration vehicles are available, a first roll-on/roll-off cargo ship will depart Esch-sur-Alzette within a few weeks, containing the first VLT's for Estenia. We can assure you these vehicles, and in fact all models offered by VLT, will comply with your local legislations.

As soon as the subsidiary distribution company has been established and we have sufficient dealership coverage, we hope to start an advertising campaign for our model range and brand, stressing the launch date and VLT's core values, as well as a presentation of the models available. This way we hope to build a lasting presence in your country.

As you have filled out a request for a factory, and considering our current production figures, we hope to establish a factory in your nation, with a total capacity of 600,000 vehicles, offering employment to roughly 6,000 workers. We remind you that this factory will be owned and operate by the VLT Group, not you as a distributor. This factory will feature advanced robot-controlled technology, where necessary augmented by human labour. Of course, VLT holds the rights of employees in high regard, and we can assure you that everything will be done to ensure employee safety and happiness, according to the latest local government standards and even beyond that, using our renowned Factory-'10 factory programmes. The factory will have a production line for the VLT L3, and related models.

We once again thank you for your application and hope for a lasting cooperation between our entities! Should you have any more questions, feel free to ask us.

Kind regards,

Cristiano Marino

Dear Cristiano Marino of VLT Automotive,

I would like to tell you that VLT Estenia,Monteluci Estenia and Lepanto Estenia will start working from now, with the headquarters being in Murin, the capital of Estenia. We already started advertising in every part of the country. The car as I see is in great demand in Russji province, the biggest of all the provinces in Estenia.

We'd also open a network of franchised dealerships entirely operated by Estenian employment and mangement. I would also like to know when the 600.000 cars will arrive in Estenia so we can start hiring employment and management for the shops. This will boost my country's and your company's economy.

I would also like to ask you if the cars will get sold out in a matter of weeks what should I do? Because the Estenian people want this cars like crazy.

Kind Regards,

RECIPIENT: Sergei Baranovsky, Sales Director of Estenia

Dear Sergei,

Thanks for your letter. I would advise you to start building a dealership network immediately, so that orders can be taken; A first shipment of roughly 6,000 cars has departed the port in Esch yesterday, and these can be used as press cars and as showroom and demonstration models in your dealerships. For the time being, I would recommend taking advance orders such that our worldwide network of factories can build all vehicles to customer orders in the initial setup period, allowing every customer to receive their car in roughly 6-8 weeks. Then, as we can catch up with demand, we can also start delivery of cars to serve as dealership stocks, allowing customers to buy a car 'off the dealership lot' and drive away immediately.

As the factory in Estenia (with a capacity of 600,000 cars per year) is not finished yet, all orders will be fulfilled by our international factories and shipped over. Once the factory is up and running, a significant part of domestic demand will be filled by this factory. Any further demand will be filled by our international factories.

So, I would advise you to hold on to the first 6,000 vehicles and use them as dealership cars for the time being, and rather sell advance orders to customers as we are working to ship out a sufficient number of cars to Estenia.

Kind regards,

Cristiano Marino

From the Office of the Prime-Minister of East Ormania

Area: Finances/Homeland Security/Defence

Image

We here at the Military of East Ormania have been reforming our system for the past 20 years. This time we are reinforcing our defence systems and building up defences around the Capital City of Yevan.
We'd like to inquire about the purchase and possible transfer of technology of the VLT M5. We are also interested in turning it into an armoured anti-mines carrier, by adding a reinforced troop carrier to the back. We'd be interested in developing said vehicle with you and marketing it as a joint venture, as long as we can buy units at 65% discount. It is negotiable.

We'd like to buy 20 units for test and evaluation. If those tests fail to achieve our standarts, we will be returning the products without expecting compensation and/or return of money, as we have plenty of budget but not enough space to storage unused units.
All of them shall with the upgrades listed below:
700 PS V8 engine
12-speed VLT tiptronic transmission
Integrated armour kit (STANAG 4569 Level 3, 7.62mm NATO, Mines: Level 4)
Radio/CD/MP3 player 4x40W
Satellite Navigation system ( military-grade, 2DIN)
Air Conditioning system
Long cabin (+2 bunk beds/4 passengers)
Auxiliary Power Unit (APU)

5 of them shall have these additional upgrades:
Tractor version, 10x8
Rigid truck chassis, 10x8
Hook loader system

5 of them shall have the recovery Vehicle additional upgrade.
5 of them shall have the rear winch additional upgrades.
5 of them shall have the standart setup.

We expect to have friendly relations during the transfer process and we bid you a good day. We hope this letter hasn't caused any incoveniences.

Signed,
Alexandar Ilianov
Prime-Minister of East Ormania

Dear Harris,

Thank you for your letter. It's good to hear that the new RF13 chassis and its powerplant are doing so well! Sounds like our engineers did a marvellous job in developing these cars together with your team. Certainly a massive improvement from the previous season; and I'm pleased to report that our engineers are already looking at numerous improvements for the next seasons, building on the experiences with the RF13 and EMR13-C2, but also on experiences in other racing series and our own production cars; the DUAL engine range that we have recently introduced will also give us a lot more information about the behaviour of electric drivelines on a much larger sample group; this can potentially improve the longevity and reliability of our racing chassis as well. This will certainly be of value when race distances increase.

I'm looking forward to a successful season, in any case!

Kind regards,

Francis Waterman

From: Robert Whittle, AFK Automotive
To: Cristiano Marino, Sales Director, VLT Automotive N.V.

Dear Sir,
AFK Automotive is looking to possibly sell to VLT Automotive N.V. and merge into your automotive division. We currently produce vehicles for the following brands:
  • Balna
  • Celsan
  • Chevrolet
  • Dodge
  • Holden
  • Opel
  • Pontiac
  • Rauwe
  • Toyota
  • Tydan
  • Vauxhall
  • Volkswagen

I am aware you may not have heard of our product line much, but AFK Automotive have always been an assembly company, rather than designing our own cars.

I can only apologise for the past when Celsan was mismanaged (as it were, at the time the brand was suffering an identity crisis, not knowing which way to proceed, whether to be a Vauxhall/Opel clone, or a VLT sister brand); it was not honoring your contracts at the time as it still had some to use General Motors parts and engines in its Balna and Tydan brands. Tydan, however, is separate from Celsan, always has been, and is priced more at the level of brands such as Pontiac, Renault or FIAT, instead of being a VLT competitor.

Celsan is doing a lot better now than it was when you sold it.

The Board of Directors have been discussing plans for a sale, and I have their permission to mention this.

I appreciate your feedback.

Kind regards,
Robert Whittle,
AFK Automotive

salthill automotive ltd.

From: Jacqueline Lemieux, Salthill Automotive LLC, Ashtonbury, Pari Motungahere
To: Cristiano Marino, Sales Director, VLT Automotive N.V.

Dear Mr. Marino,
we at Salthill Automotive LLC would like to acquire the distribution rights to become the official importer and distributor for VLT, Monteluci and Lepanto vehicles in Pari Motungahere, a South Oceanic island nation, which comprises of 13 islands.

Salthill Automotive LLC were founded in 1969 as an automobile distributor and importer and operate in 24 nations across the continent of Europa-Astholm, and 4 outside of Astholm's borders.

We are currently the official importers for Acina, Dodge, Lancia, Plymagiz and Rauwe vehicles in Pari Motungahere, and we have carried out extensive research prior to discussion with you.

Our survey found:
  • 85% of those surveyed said they would buy a VLT, Monteluci or Lepanto automobile.
  • 10% of those surveyed were not sure about the brand or did not know much.
  • 5% would not buy any of these three brands.

At Salthill Automotive LLC, we intend to cultivate a high level of relations with VLT Automotive LLC. I can also provide you with detailed information on the state of the automobile market here in Pari Motungahere should you request it, so you can tailor the model line accordingly.

In terms of exchange rates, which affects imports, the current exchange rate is $1 PmHD = $0.74 NSD, but this obviously depends on what currency your automobiles are bought or sold in, per nation. For example, Rauwe cars are bought in £AST (Astholmian pound) and the current exchange rate is $1PmHD = £0.49AST.

The VAT rate is 15%, so a car sold here for $20,000, would be priced in the showrooms at $23,000, under our VAT laws.
(20000 + 15% = 23000 or 20000 x 1.15 = 23000, according to our VAT calculator).

We have no luxury car tax (unlike our neighbor Australis Australia), so your L7 sedan, full-size L7X SUV and Alzette sports car will not face the additional 33% price increase, in addition to the 10% VAT/GST that would be charged across the water from us. As it is, there is a local clone of the Alzette, but it uses a V6 powerplant, and is priced at Ford Mustang level, rather than being an Alzette competitor. It differs enough to not be copyright infringement, parts are not interchangeable, but you may want to consider this if you decide to market it here.

I would appreciate hearing from you soon, and we have an invitation open to VLT staff to visit us at our Ashtonbury offices. However, this will require sorting out a business visa, so please do so before visiting Pari Motungahere, immigration rules say you cannot do business here without a suitable visa for it.

Kind regards,
Jacqueline Lemieux,
Salthill Automotive LLC

SPHAUL
"Friendly And Safe Logistics"

Dear Sir/Madam,

Greetings. We here at SPHAUL are interested in procuring 35 C4 Vehicles. We ask that the engine be 710 horsepower, the vehicles being right hand drive (We drive on the left in SP.), And that the vehicle's tachograph system to be compatible and preset with the SP driving regulations (12 Hours daily driving, 45 min. break). And finally, we have one more request. We here at SPHaul strive to provide green logistics, if we may ask, can the vehicles run on liquid nitrogen tanks? Liquid Nitrogen is cheap, and we have tried this before with marvelous results.

Sincerely,

Arnold Amadeus
Fleet Expansion Team, SPHaul
