Current military situation in Novograd, Red controlled by military, Blue controlled by Pro-Government/Rebels

On April 12, 2016 a coup d'etat was launched by a faction of the Novograd Armed Forces in order to overthrow the elected government and replace it with a military junta. Novogradi president Ivan Tenyuksh was assasinated by the coupist soldiers a few days after the coup was launched. Death of Ivan Tenyuksh sparked a revolution. President's death severely demoralized pro-government military troops and most of them changed side or surrendered. Valeriy Poltorak, a general of the Novgogradi Armed Forces and claimed leader of the coup has stated that the coup was launched because of the government 'power grabbing', which many of the Novgogradi citizens disagreed.

On August 29, 2016 pro-Tenyuksh supporters launched an attack against the junta using molotovs, AK-47s and other captured weapons. 104 citizens were killed/wounded along with 4 military personnel and 7 police officers. After the incident many other Tenyuksh supporters started protesting against the junta.

On September 2, 2016 an attack against the junta was launched by democracy supporters in order to restore democracy back in the country, which eventually led to a civil war. The pro-democracy fighters managed to capture some of the Novogradi military equipment and recruit hundreds if not thousands of fighters via internet recruitment, messages and etc. in a matter of time.

Right now the country is split between two factions. Pro-democracy fighters already asked for help from foreign powers, on the other hand the military junta also expects the support of international community.

The SSF will be deploying 35,000 soldiers to the nation of Novograd, to help out the rebels and stop the junta further abusing freedoms. Multiple non-nuclear ICBMs have been fired from Elista and will be landing in the fleet of Novograd in Mariupol, any known Junta hideouts, and mass production factories. This will cause great damage and hinder the regime's further ability. The 35,000 will be attempting a major airdrop and landing in Mariupol, trying to capture the large city before the rebels lose any ground.

The Union of Lesser Soviet Republics has decided to support the pro-democracy fighters to bring down the authoritarian regime and bring democracy back to Novograd.

The ULSR will send in fighters and bombers to attack junta fortifications and other key positions like factories while transport planes airdrop weapons and supplies to the rebel-held areas. A task force of 25,000 soldiers will be transported by aircraft somewhere near the city of Mariupol to push out the junta forces and to support both rebel and SSF troops.

The military generals of Calriida have been collecting information in Novograd for quite some time now. With the recent events, the generals have informed the emperor that this would be the perfect time to intervein and openly support the pro-democracy government. In a statement made on the 3rd of September, the emperor announced that he fully supports the pro-democracy fighters and plans on sending troops into Novograd as soon as possible. Currently, Calriida has troops fighting rebel forces in South Politiana and would like to finish up there before officially sending troops into Novograd. Some of Calriida's top generals later in the day during a press conference have announced with the support of the emperor that they will be using the airforce to perform bombing runs and drop off aid to the pro-democracy fighters. There was also hints at a possible no-fly zone that may be put into place.

No fewer than a dozen high-ranking generals of the Rikanan State Armed Forces were seated around the long table that dominated the room. At one end, an LCD screen showed a roughly drawn map of Novograd, at the other end sat the most important person in the entire State, Supreme President Kadir Rizmanni. A middle-aged air force officer stood beside the screen, pointing at various spots on the map as he briefed the room of the situation.

"Ladies and gentlemen, a few months ago a certain group from the Novogradi military launched a successful coup against the country's government. The assassination of Ivan Tenyuksh, Novograd's incumbent president, at the hands of the newly-established Junta drastically brought down the morale of pro-government military personnel, to the point where they started siding against the government or surrendered.

"A few months later, the people of Novograd attacked the junta in an effort to restore democracy. They captured some equipment from the military and managed to recruit many fighters then. The attack eventually led to a full-scale civil war, and presently Novograd is split between the military junta and the pro-government rebels."

The officer pointed to a portion of the map and continued, "The areas in red are currently controlled by the military junta, while the blue areas are held by pro-government rebels. As you can see, the junta holds a significant portion of territory at this moment, though that could change in a matter of days should there be no foreign intervention or assistance given to the junta, as most, if not all, of the population supports the government."

The Supreme President stood up and leaned forwards on the table. His piercing gray eyes scanned his subordinates carefully, before diverting his attention to the map shown on the screen. The military junta of Novograd would probably need foreign assistance if they wish to hold out against the rebels. If Rikana aids the junta, it would likely be a potential ally in the future and prove beneficial to the State.

"The junta," Rizmanni started, "Would likely require our military assistance. A nation torn apart by civil war could not defend itself properly against the masses, and I predict there would be several foreign nations who would be providing aid to the pro-Tenyuksh rebels aiming to reestablish democracy there. Our foreign policy calls for our intervention and assistance to the junta."

The room hummed and nodded in agreement. "I want the State Armed Forces mobilized in less than 60 hours, more specifically the Air Force and Naval Infantry brigades. We will also send military advisers to Novograd, though before we send in any troops I would have to ask for their permission first. Any further questions?"

A silent moment passed, before Rizmanni nodded slowly. "Then it is decided. We will intervene in the Novogradi civil war."

The actions committed by the Coup d'etat were unacceptable to go against a country with democracy and a republic. In response to the
aggressive movement of the Junta, the Emmerian president has been given the authority to send in a reaction force to repel the invading military junta forces that have seized control of Novograd. We will not condone to their barbaric actions that threatens the lives of millions. The Republican Armed Forces will be mobilizing a Carrier Strike Force, a larger force of more than just one carrier task force, within the next 48 hours. We're also scrambling 21 squadrons to assist air dominance over the entire region. We request any available information to assist the conflict. General Valeriy Poltorak condemned the nations of ULSR, Calriida, SSR and Emmerian Republic for supporting the rebellion. General also stated that Novograd considers itself at war with any nation that stands by the pro-government rebellion. Junta ordered deployment of many ZSU-23-4M1 and Tunguska M1 anti-aircraft vehicles in ports and mainly major cities. 10 Su-27SKM aircraft of the Novogradi Air Force is currently protecting the airspace in order to shoot down any foreign aircraft and any supplies to the rebels.

It is reported that the city of Mariupol, claimed capital of the rebels was heavily bombed by the Novogradi Su-24 bombers, killing hundreds of rebel soldiers. Many citizens were also detained for being associated with the rebellion. Novogradi Army launched a massive assault against rebels in the capital city of Donetsk, breaking through the rebel lines and pushing them back and away from the capital, giving the Junta full control over Donetsk. 2 T-90 tanks and 9 BTR-80 APCs were captured by rebels during the assault. The Junta also claimed that ICBMs fired from Siberia were intercepted via ABMs of the military.

In Marmora's Palatial District, where all government buildings of Avetinia were located within the national capital, traffic was scarce, with most roads wide yet empty. Only intended to be the seat of the government, there was little commercial activity beyond what was needed to supply the government employees with what they needed, and deliveries of documents and other minor articles from the downtown. The Palatial District was a tranquil space situated within a massive metropolis filled with impatience of modern lifestyles, it was the eye of the hurricane.

One of the large buildings, built to Baroque architecture, was where the members of the government and other high ranking officials gathered. Today they would see themselves meeting over another matter in another country. Indeed, President Perrone began to take profound interest in international incidents and politics, which began when Avetinia supported volunteers to fight communists in the nation of Peandland. Now it was another issue, it was a war in Novograd, a Slavic country which saw political instability this year.

"What do we know?" The President, seated and solemn, inquired. A man in a suit replied, "In April, the military took over in Novograd and murdered the legitimate president. Later, supporters of the former president began rebelling against the military regime, and were able to gain strength. Now the country is in civil war as pro-democracy forces attempt to re-establish democracy in the country."

"Thank you sir." President Perrone said. "Now gentlemen, we can see that we will need to secure democracy in the nation, for it is what was legitimate. What the military have done was illegal, their cold-blooded murder of the rightfully elected President even more so of an affront to any nation. We must support the democratic forces with what we can provide." However, at this point, he turned the tone of his voice. "But, we have gathered information that communist and socialist nations have rallied to the support of the democratic forces as well. Do not be fooled, for they will use this as a chance to establish their own twisted ideology in Novograd. At night, in several military-owned aircraft hangars and ship berths in Avetinia, crates and boxes of various items were loaded onto transport planes, or ships. Various weapons and ammunition were being packed, alongside other supplies, such as medical kits. Workers moved the heavy crates off carts they were transported on, and onto conveyor belts, where the crates would be moved into the planes. The first flights would soon take off, carrying goods to help the democratic forces. Meanwhile, preparations for air strikes were being made as well, missiles and rockets being assembled onto fighter aircraft and pilots briefed of their mission.

The skies above Novograd were cloudless this mid-morning. The Rikanan State Armed Forces have been mobilized for the operation which aims to aid the Novogradi military junta in fighting off the pro-government rebels in the country. Over 20.000 troops, not including support and auxiliary personnel, would be involved in this operation. On 10:35 AM, the State Armed Forces Supreme Command (SAFSC) authorized the commencement of Operation Iron Hammer.

Three battle-ready fighter squadrons from the Rikanan State Air Forces have been deployed and ordered to fly directly to the air bases in the junta-controlled territories of Novograd. One more additional squadron was also deployed, as the need for additional jets arose in the last minute. These squadrons were also escorting dozens of C-130 Hercules transporters as they flew, which carried two fully-equipped Airborne Infantry regiments who would fight alongside the ground troops. Some of them carried supplies, equipment, or support elements, such as artillery pieces, AFVs, and anti-aircraft batteries. SAFSC expected the C-130s, along with their F-16C escorts, to land in their designated air bases in 3-4 hours.

Meanwhile in the ocean, over a hundred kilometers off the coast of the country, several battle groups of the State Naval Forces sailed towards the southern ports of Novograd. These battle groups were made up of Ferdi-class frigates, T-94 submarines, Horison-class destroyers, several support ships and Osyobe-class amphibious transport docks. Three Naval Infantry brigades were also sailing alongside the battle groups on their respective vessels, the main fighting force of Operation Iron Hammer.

"Sir! Sir! Urgent news in the world, there's a civil war in Novograd! the sides are pro democratic fighters and a military junta that overthrew the elected government. They say, the democrats, that the coup is unjust, and so the nation's split between pro democracy and a Military Junta." "how many nations are involved in this conflict,and on what side?"
"Well sir,from what we know, the Siberian Socialist Federation,Union of Lesser Soviet Republics,Calriida and the Emmerian Republic are supporting the Pro Democracy Forces,while only Rikana is supporting the military junta."

After recent Novogradi Junta assault on the Donetsk, rebels had no choice but to fall back. Rebel spies reported that the Junta is planning another attack on the city o Debaltseve, in order to not lose the important, strategic city, rebel leaders authorized deployment of following assets to the city:

20 Captured T-72B Tanks
1,000 Fighters
4-5 ZSU-23-4 SPAAG
2 BTR-70 APCs
25 UAZ-469 Utility Vehicles

The city of Debaltseve is currently being fortified and gun trucks are also being set up. Many soldiers have been placed in the buildings and snipers have been put on the roofs. A lot of mines are also set up around the city. They are just waiting for their supporters and allies to arrive now.

On the other hand, the Junta is preparing for a full-scale assault on the Debaltseve city. Over 2,500 troops alongside 40
upgraded/modernized T-80/T-72 tanks. Two Su-24 bombers were damaged by rebel anti-aircraft during bombardment of Debaltseve. It is also confirmed that the rebels captured one fast attack craft and one heavy patrol boat of the Novogradi Navy.
General Valeriy Poltorak refused to give Newne Carribean full contrl and occupation over Novogradi air bases. Instead, he offered him military access so their planes can operate from there.

"Sir, the Junta has recently captured Donetsk but the amount of foreign troops about to intervene on the side of the rebels is staggering. Almost 100,000 foreign troops will be fighting for them and we don't believe the junta has the manpower to defend against them"

"Suggestions?"

'We can deploy the 1st Fleet to the coast and begin an immediate assault on rebel ports, I suggest for this we deploy the 3rd Field Army, 200,000 Marines to land on the coast and begin an assault deep into enemy territory." chimed in the Naval Chief of Staff Kel Hancock, "With the coast under our control, Tomahawk missiles would be a valuable asset, and we wouldn't have to worry about airbases being overrun with the Aircraft Carrier groups. Further, we all know the Marines are well suited to this combat situation and their training makes them superior to these disgusting democracies. The point is, we can not let the junta fall so easily."

The other Chiefs of Staff nodded in agreement, SUPREME OVERLORD looked at the map more intently before showing a slight smirk.

With Donetsk occupied by junta troops, the planes moved towards Debaltseve and deployed the troops there instead. However, while moving, a transport plane was damaged by enemy AA fire. After the troops and the supplies were airdropped to the city, the troops began to occupy the buildings and fortify their positions. The supplies were transported to the rebels to aid them in fighting the junta.
Meanwhile, Su-35 and MiG-35 fighter jets guarded the city's airspace to prevent bombings by the junta and its allies and to attack any ground targets that near the city.

The helicopter floated overhead the city of Mariupol, a strategically important location in this new war the SSF was involved. Inside was the mysterious and infamous Colonel Erh-ya, and many of his subordinates, including Captain Ulyich Perislava of the 3rd Armored.

"Colonel, we expect to have Mariupol in our hands by nightfall. Resistance is unorganized, demoralized, and weak, and we are expecting low casualties and high prisoners. As you can see, the missiles did a number."

"Yes, indeed I see. Well, with the ships desolated and destroyed, I feel the need to bring it up," The Colonel looks at his watch, "that in three minutes the offensive will begin. 35,000 will have the city in our grasp instantly. It will be a slaughterhouse." The Colonel laughs loudly, a spectacle for those beholding it.

"Gentlemen, a toast, to the Junta, for being kind enough to grant us free access to their ports!" The laughter continued, everybody this time, as glasses of vodka clinked throughout the aircraft.

The skies of Novograd had already started to turn into a great battle, and the Avetinian pilots who would arrive would only add excitement to this great engagement. As the military junta had strengthened anti-air defences, these had to be destroyed first to ensure that supplies could reach the rebels without facing any threat. The Avetine Air Force selected the air defence unit of a particular coastal city for this hunt.

4 Aquila II fighters, including 2 electronic warfare aircraft, along with 2 Falcon II stealth fighters, entered Novogradi airspace. They targeted the Tunguska vehicles and other anti-aircraft units as well as air bases that belonged to the Junta, and the electronic warfare aircraft began jamming the radars of the vehicles while missiles were fired to destroy them. Meanwhile, the Falcon II fighters were on the lookout for Novogradi fighters, and would soon engage them if they appeared within range.

When the presidential cabinet has ordered the mobilization of Emmerian Armed forces to take back the mainland for the democratic people of Novograd. They are assembling a force of 32,000 infantry already to aid the ground offensive while the Air Force is making use of their friendly airspace as needs to gain air supremacy over the country. They're be expecting foreign aid to the democratic side, but so does the Junta forces that ahve occupied the entire land.

Rows of C-130s are being loaded with infantry from the Army. The Marines will be joining the carrier strike force to take the sea and the coastal cities around the southern Novograd. The force of foreign aid to the junta would be skyrocketing higher than the Emmerian deployment. In regard with the situation, more will be expected to be deployed to take the fight to the enemy, especially with Christoslavia. While the C-130s are being loaded into their transports, the Air Force have already send the squadrons in 50s to aid the air space. They're expecting a long and bloody war.

While the Emmerians are mounting the ground forces to take the fight against the enemy, the Air Force has already scrambled a many as over 300 aircrafts in total to take the airspace while more are coming underway. 80 F-35s and 70, F/A-37A Talons are taking the skies to gain air supremacy over the coastal areas of southern Novosgrad. All squadrons are reporting in for their dogfight combat against the Junta air force. Emmerians do not underestimate their opponents. Armed with Sidewinders, Sparrows, and cutting edge stealth techolongy, the first task force puls the throttle to take the fight against the Juntas.

Meanwhile, another task force was underway to the coastal cities in southern Novograd. A strike force of drones, consisting of 80 QA-10 Thunderbolt IIIs and 70 Q/F-60G RONIN UCAVs, are targeting military installations controlled by the junta forces in southern Novosgrad. The fly with the Q/F-60Gs being the ar protectors against air attacks while the Q-A10s are to attack the military installations in the southern Novograd controlled by the junta. They flew through the skies to race towards Debaltseve . It was reported to e attacked by Novogradi juntas for the last few weeks and the rebels are losing the momentum. In order to ensure the security of the democratics, the drones have started their attacks against the Novogradi juntas in Debaltseve by launching a all out barrage of cannons from their noses, rockets from their hardpoints, and AGMs against enemy forces in the city. Ronin drones have started their engagement against any fighers or enemy aircrafts in Debaltseve, aunching one aircraft each barrage of missiles against their enemys.

ERAF has reported to send their aircrafts into the city of Debaltseve to supress their enemies for the rebels to take the city. Not enough to handle a large scale amount of support from other foreign countries, the Emmerian Navy has been given the authority to launch Carrier Strike Force ALFA, a part of the Emmerian's largest naval formation of multiple carriers, submarines, destroyers, frigates, and cruisers to help their rebel alliances from the sea. Though, its going to take a while for their formation to be ready for deployement with in another 72 hours before they can deploy.

The suercarriers are being fitted with aircrafts, loaded with ammunitions for self defense, destroyers filled with cruise missiles and multiple anti aircraft defense systems in case of aerial attacks from the enemy.This will be the largest assembly of Emmerians since the last war.

That, and his well-known loyalty to the Supreme President and the National Socialist Party was what made him chosen as the Supreme Commanding Officer of Operation Iron Hammer.

"I see. Thank you for the report, Colonel," Hamilt said, nodding slowly as his wrinkled hands picked up his coffee mug and took a long sip. "I take it you also have the report on our forces on the field? I do hope that casualties are minimized."

The Colonel flipped through the folder he had been holding, looking through the reports that just came in this morning. "Uh, yes I do, Sir," he spoke, "Battle Groups 7 and 9 have docked in at Mariupol, and the 30th, 31st, and 33rd Naval Infantry brigades along with their support elements have landed in the city as well." He paused, flipped the paper, and continued, "Four fighter squadrons of F-16Cs have landed in the air bases in proximity of Mariupol, along with the transport wings carrying the 90th and 92nd Airborne Infantry regiments. Overall, nearly 25.000 of our troops have arrived in the country, specifically Mariupol.

"The commanding officer of our operational force, Lieutenant General Abi Nas have been coordinating with the junta forces in Mariupol. Our troops are currently setting up defenses in case of an enemy attack. These defenses consist of self-propelled guns, howitzers, and several units of RM-70 MRLS positioned at strategic locations. We also have set up air defenses in anticipation of an enemy air strike on the area. Report finished, Sir."

"Good. Very good," the Grand Admiral replied. His hands rubbed his chin as he thought, "How about the enemy? Any intelligence on the opposition forces, both the rebels and foreign troops?"

"From our aerial intelligence and operatives on the field," the Colonel started, "We found out that although the rebels have little to no air power to maintain air superiority over Novograd, foreign nations have sent their air forces to the region to defend the airspace of rebel-held territories. Recently, the pro-government forces have captured a couple of warships from the Novogradi navy. Although those vessels were all they have, foreign countries' vessels have been spotted off the coast of Novograd as well, likely on the rebels' side." He stated. "This is going to be a tough one, Sir."

"Yes. I know that already, Colonel." Hamilt spoke, "That is why I have thought of another plan..."

State Air Forces (SAF) 16th Fighter Squadron

Flight C of the 16th Fighter Squadron took off from Mariupol at exactly 1AM, just as Flight A returned to base to refuel. Seven F-16Cs make up the Flight, each loaded with AIM-9 and AIM-120 BVR air-to-air missiles and other necessary munitions. Their orders were to shoot down and/or pursue every hostile aircraft entering Novograd in general and Mariupol in particular. Piloted by the more senior officers, the squadrons sent to Novograd were among the best in the Rikanan State Air Forces.

Their skills were about to be put to the test when not only one, but nearly a dozen unidentified enemy aircraft were spotted. Flight Lieutenant Rahman Kuzaki predicted that these were Emmerian or Avetinian jets, and immediately requested backup through the radio. The rest of the squadron's aircraft were quickly readied and scrambled into the air to hunt down these hostile jets. Once in formation, a total of twenty one F-16Cs were given the order to pursue the oncoming aircraft, their pilots determined to take down the enemies before returning to base.

On the ground, air defence units were moved to strategic positions to intercept the enemy jets. These units, armed and equipped with the latest anti-air systems, have been ordered to shoot down every oncoming unidentified aircraft on sight.

Rebels were celebrating the arrival of their allies and the Mariupol landings. This boosted their morale, they were so determined to win this war, especially after arrival of their supporters.

The junta ordered deployment of 25,000 troops around the city of Mariupol along with 50 T-80U MBTs, two squadrons consisting of 24 Su-27 fighters were also sent to protect and patrol the airspace. It is reported that two unidentified aircraft were shot down over Debaltseve this morning by the Novogradi Su-27s. Media stated that they were possibly two Avetinian Aquila II fighters.

The Junta intelligence reported that rebels have deployed additional 2 T-90 tanks captured from the Novogradi army and 1,000 more men were sent to the city of Debaltseve. In response Junta ordered deployment of 25 T-72B/T-80U tanks and 1,250 men along with 4 Mil Mi-24 attack helicopters. Right after the arrival of reinforcements, a group of 2S1 Gvozdika SPGs fired shells at rebel troops stationed in Debaltseve. As a result of the shelling around 20 militants were killed. Right after the shellings Novogradi military launched a massive assault on Debaltseve, thus beginning the Siege of Debaltseve.

As for Mariupol, same strategy was used by Junta. 2S1 Gvozdika and 2S3 Akatsiya SPGs opened fire, troops entered the city right after. Novogradi troops knew the city better than foreign troops and enemies, and they were specifically trained for urban warfare. This gave them a big advantage and upper hand in the conflict.
