Once Upon A Summer's Day... (IC, MT, APP OPEN)

Postby Trotsky Land » Thu Oct 20, 2016 7:20 am

Exactly one hundred and one years ago, the greatest war humanity had ever known ended. Over the course of the war, which was fought for nearly ten years and involving major world powers, 14% of the entire world population perished, cast into the void for little more than to satisfy a few men’s greed.

In the aftermath of the battle, the world took a long look at itself. The many nations met all together for the first time in history, and after a long discussion they all agreed that it was time to put away the guns and weapons, and deal away with war. They promised to do everything they could in the interest of peace. And they kept their promises.

Humanity managed to find a way to avoid any war between nations for an entire Century. Art flourished, culture flourished, the food of the era was delightful. People from all walks of life and from all corners of the globe would frequently meet, and a sense of harmony began to arise. Instead of fighting each other over their hatred, mankind fought their hatred for each other.

This isn’t to say bad people didn’t exist. Bad people find their ways into the world, and they find ways to do bad things. Individual murderers, homicides, revolts, crazy fanatics, suicide cults, exploitation, and authoritarianism were still around, to list a few. Yes, peace reigned for a century, but that's not to say the times haven't changed. In fact, much has happened. Nations have risen and fallen, Dictators have taken and consolidated power, and men and women around the world have fought for their rights. Movements have started and ended, leaders have come and gone, and natural disaster struck, time and time again. For even if Man can avoid killing himself, he cannot write treaties with Mother Nature.

In the last days of the 101st summer since the era of cooperation began, a young man shot and killed the Chairman of the Trotskite Union, who had been ruling for a decade and a half, and was the most well-liked leader the Union had ever had. Nobody was prepared for his passing. The young man himself was quickly found and executed, but the damage he had done was going to shake the world.

Within the Trotskite Union, another young man, with ambition and great dreams in his heart, found his way into the position of Chairman after his biggest rival dropped out of the race, after the death of his mother, and endorsed the rising politician.

Well, his second biggest rival dropped out. Another leader was still staying in the race, and stood a chance at beating him, until the competition was shot, and killed, while giving a speech. The assassin was quickly found, and executed like the last one. The chance was almost uncanny to the populace of the Union. The two deaths, very much like each other, combined with the sudden and odd ‘suicide’ by the Speaker of the Assembly, who strongly opposed the young man running for Chairman, causing a large section of the Socialist Party to start a very strong opposition movement to him.

The young man came to power anyway, despite the attempts of his opponents, and one of his first acts was to expel the dissidents from the party, stripping them of any titles and removing them any position of power. Of course, his enemies were not pleased with the turn of events, and they were certainly not done with their opposition. Sure enough, they took up protest against him. Soon enough, one man was shot by the Police, and the rebels got more violent, until one bombed Trotskygrad, the Capital of the Union, and as every force has an equal and opposite reaction, official war was declared upon the insurgents.

Soon enough, the Armed Forces of the Trotskite Union began to mobilize against the rebels, and this didn’t end well. For the new leader was even more disliked from his purging of the Party, which had never been done before in history. And rash, military action violated the laws of the Union, which the Government is forbidden from authorizing military action unless all other attempts have failed. Everyone recognized that things were going downhill, and the men and women of the Union took their sides, choosing between the law-breaking new leader, and the opposition force. All this in in the last week of Summer.

Nations of the world watched as the last rays of sunlight fell on the Union, and once again it was clear to all that the years of peace were over. When the sun settled on the Union on the last day of Summer, bullets began to fly in the dark.

Summer has ended...and the fall has started.

The Rebel Army, who had begun to call themselves the Renewed Red Army, was gathering near Almaty. A small force was sent out to retrieve the supply cache, and in the city of Almaty, which the rebels had stormed and seized with little resistance, a meeting was called between the influential and powerful leaders.

Mikhail and Grigory Semyevik, the ones who started this Revolution in the first place, faced off in the center of the Assembly, "You're insane Mikhail! You always have been!" Grigory screamed at his brother, "I can't believe you! What happened to you?"

Mikhail was silent, raising his hand and placing it gently but firmly on his brother's chest, "I know what I have to do."

"You bastard! You're betraying everything! You'll put our country into ruins! EVERYTHING MIKHAIL!" Mikhail shook his head.

"My people are waiting for me, and I will join them and I will bring glory to our homeland once more. And when I am done, I will spare your life for you could not have known the right path. You are misguided, and I will lead you and our country to the light once more."

"MIKHAIL!" Grigory screamed as his brother walked calmly out of the room, on his way to join the Revived White Army, "YOU BASTARD!" But Mikhail was stout in his beliefs, and the hearts of the Renewed Red Army sunk as one of their strongest leaders abandoned them for Capitalism.

A WORD FROM RUSSIA
TO ALL THOSE WHO CARE, I AM MIKHAIL SEMYEVIK, LEADER OF THE REVIVED WHITE ARMY, AND I WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT WHAT HAPPENS IN RUSSIA CONCERNS THE ENTIRE WORLD. PEACE AND PROSPERITY HAVE BEEN THREATENED BY A DICTATOR, THE EVENTUAL RESULT OF ANY FORM OF SOCIALISM. IT IS YOUR INTEREST, NAY YOUR DUTY, TO ASSIST US IN DEFEATING THE STAIN THAT IS SOCIALISM. CONSIDER THAT THE WORLD NOW STANDS ON A GREAT PRECIPICE, AND HERE IN RUSSIA WE, THE WHITE ARMY, STAND READY TO ENSURE THAT HUMANITY DOES NOT FALL OFF OF IT.
MIKHAIL SEMYEVIK, LEADER OF THE WHITE ARMY

A WORD FROM RUSSIA
TO ALL THOSE WHO CARE, I AM GRIGORY SEMYEVIK, LEADER OF THE RENEWED RED ARMY, AND I WANT TO MAKE IT CLEAR THAT WHAT HAPPENS IN RUSSIA CONCERNS THE ENTIRE WORLD. THE IDEALS OF SOCIALISM HAVE BEEN DESTROYED BY A BRUTAL DICTATOR, WHO SEEKS TO ESTABLISH HIMSELF AS ALL-POWERFUL IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO ASSIST US IN DEFEATING THE STAIN THAT IS STALINISM AND AUTHORITARIANISM. THE WORLD STANDS ON A GREAT PRECIPICE, AND HERE IN RUSSIA WE, THE RED ARMY, STAND READY TO ENSURE THAT HUMANITY MOVES AWAY FROM IT.
GRIGORY SEMYEVIK, LEADER OF THE RED ARMY

A STATEMENT FROM THE TROTSKITE UNION
There have been messages sent out by the rebels in this land recently. These people have destroyed society, and interrupted every day life. They're fools who couldn't accept the outcome of an election, and I will make it known that all they really want is to cause chaos. Be aware that any friend of them is an enemy of us. Do not aid them, as they will only drag you down with them. In fact, it is in the interest of government to stop them, or else risk having their anarchist ideals spread, and see the world devolve into chaos. The world stands on a great precipice, and here in Russia we, The Trotskite Union, stand ready to keep any from rushing off it blindly.
Alexander Kuchaka, Chairman of the Trotskite Union

I won't ask how you got my email. I'm sure I'd rather not know, in all honesty.

I thank you for protecting my Brother's life. He is young, rash, and sometimes foolish but he's a good man at heart. If you're wondering greatly, there was no split in our forces in all honesty. The Renewed Red Army follows him as it always his, unaware that he is playing Kuchaka's game. The White Army was not even started by me, I confess. At first I joined with the Red Army for Kuchaka and his forces were more important, but when certain men, who I will not name, formed the White Army I knew our paths had to split.

I thank you for the supplies, they will be retrieved and utilized at our earliest convienence.
Signed, Mikhail Semyevik

The Cyberiad Council, the governing body of the Cyberiad, sat in meditative silence, pondering the ramifications of the schism that had torn the Trotskite Union into thirds. Finally, Sebastian Bartimaeus, the Commander prime, the executive head of the nation, stood drawing the attention of the somber assembly.

"This is the day. The day we have feared was nigh for twenty years. The dissolution of our sun-gilded century. A crimson wave of blood has amassed on tomorrow's horizon, and I fear it may flow down and drown us. What we do in these next precarious hours will seal our fate. Commander Orwell, is our army ready?"

Commander-in-chief James T. Orwell stood and cleared his throat.
"Yes, Commander Prime. We are ready for complete mobilization."

"So what do we do?"

silence was the only response until the Chancellor of Intelligence spoke up softly.
"We should not be hasty for any resolution, we need to cautiously observe, I move we use the Muninn."

"I agree Chancellor, any objections?"

The fellow members of the council gave the negative.

"In that case, prepare the Muninn at once Commander Orwell."

"Right away sir."

Orwell walked out of the chamber and into the well lit hallway. He had a nervous giddiness in the pit of his stomach; He would be the first Commander-In-Cheif to deal with war in a hundred years. His entire career had led up to this moment, and he intended to meet it with fervor.

The Muninn sat idling on the runway, waiting for the tower to give the thumbs up for launch. The sleek black Archangel had been modified specifically for high altitude reconnaissance missions and had been waiting several years to have a purpose. The all clear came over the radio and the pilot throttled up the massive engines. Moments later the wheels were bidding the ground farewell as the plane was en route to the skies above the Trotskite Union...
I modeled this after the c-17 Globemaster, but with larger, more rectangular engines

50 meters underground in Mount Sempu, the board of directors has assembled in their secure bunker. Each ambassador took their place in their corporate offices and began their live chat. Dozens of security personnel dutifully monitored their respective clients as they typed away on their secure terminals.

AMAZON: You have no means of distribution. We have the manpower and the firepower to contest the Trotskite Union. We don't need the Board's support.
GOOGLE: That's rich coming from someone that needs our infrastructure to operate outside of Sulawesi. Or did you plan on using carrier pigeons?
L.CAESAR: We stand with Lockheed Martin. The Trotskite Union may not have a tenth of our combat experience, but they make up for it in sheer numbers and infrastructure. We need to work as a single entity in order
to truly contest them.
MCDONALDS: The White Army will respond to the Board and the Board only. Anyone who disagrees can expect a McAnnexation™ within 72 hours.
AMAZON: We don't fear your empty threats. Feel free to McScrew™ yourself.

MCDONALDS:Your fleet is outdated. Now be quiet and let the adults talk.

Leader of the Red Army,

The Board of Directors has abandoned you. While we at Amazon® despise your ideology, we believe that there is mutual benefit in working together. Do not cave in if the Board or your Brother send you an offer to join them. They're likely to assassinate you, and with you, your movement.
We propose an offer of mutual benefit. For every prisoner of war you turn over to us, you will be rewarded with supplies. Don't concern yourself with their fate. As a sign of good faith, we've stashed a VMB armored scout car at our Kazan warehouse. Have your men ask the quartermaster for item
#006790155 and it's all yours. If you chose not to work with us, your enemies will likely seize this scout car and your captured troops will be turned over to us. We hope you can see the value in our mutual cooperation.

Stay strong,

MANAGEMENT - AMAZON®

She hesitated for a second before sending out the message. This would either earn her a promotion or an execution. Only time could tell.

The Nestle ambassador had long since left the bunker and returned to his home at the NCS Quality Assurance. The former Taiwanese Kidd-class destroyer may have looked outdated, but it's CIWS and electronic warfare suites were cutting edge. The ambassador gave a short debriefing to Corporate before retiring to his private quarters. His orders had been made clear since day 1: to secure additional agricultural territory for Nestle. He'd never failed corporate, and he wasn't about to start.

Leader of the White Army,

I hope you're enjoying our supplies. We at Nestle® believe in the value of family. Unfortunately, the Board of Directors doesn't care much for that. So much so that we expect your brother to be assassinated down the road when he stops being a 'useful idiot' to them.
Their words, not ours. We at Nestle® have not forgotten the true enemy of your people, the Trotskite Union. Your brother is not beyond saving, and the people will need his strength as well as yours. Allow us to assist you in your battle for sovereignty. Our shipyard in Sochi is carefully
guarded by in-house security personnel. Within it is a Pauk-class corvette. Tell the guards C001 sent you and we'll have it ready within the hour. We won't lie to you, it's old. But despite the faded soviet emblems on it, it's 76mm cannon will do more for you than the Board's empty promises.

Trust us,

Sochi

The White Army, who had found support in the region, stormed Sochi and captured the city two hours ago. There had been minor fighting in the streets as the Black Army, the nickname given to Kuchaka's forces, resisted, but the majority of the Union's forces had been diverted towards Moscow and near Kiev, to regroup within the safe parts of the Union after the Red Army had managed a few defeats on a dis-organized Union Force that had been mobilized East to crush them. The Russian people, seeing the success of the Red Army, had begun flocking to their banner. Meanwhile, Mikhail and his White Army pushed onwards to Sochi, seeking the supplies dropped there.

In the warehouse, Mikhail stood looking as some of his men found the correct boxes and begun to open them. The message was true, he quickly found, as there was equipment practically pouring out of the box. Meanwhile, he had sent out a man to find out if the corvette really existed. The note about his Brother's life worried him, it really did, but after some thought he had determined there was little the council could do in Russia anyway.

Nestle,

The nears about my Brother concerns me, it really does, and I thank you for being honest with me. Regardless, there are more important things to address. We've taken Sochi, if you haven't heard, and have established an HQ in the city. I've sent men to ensure the reactivation of the Corvette, which I am sure will be a beautiful vehicle. Thank you for the assistance. I am sure we will be in touch.

Meanwhile, Grigory and the Red Army continued to form up around Almaty. They had managed to beat back a recon force, but the word got around that it was a much larger force. It wasn't much of an army, in truth, but the idea that the Red Army stood a chance against Kuchaka and his ways resonated strongly with the Russian people, who started to find themselves under the banner.

Amazon,

I won't lie. I despise you too. But of course, I despise Kuchaka far more. I find the idea that my brother would want me dead...hard to believe. But the idea that the board wants me dead is very easy to see, and I can see how they would trick him. I'm afraid we're nowhere near Kazan, considering that's near where the bulk of the Black Army gathers, but I'll see if I can find a way to retrieve the item. Although it pains me to say this, I recognize that our victory stand unlikely, and so I will consider your offer. After, and if, we secure that patrol car, I shall see if the quality of your deal is enough for me to put your ideology behind me.

Signed,
Grigory Semyevik, Leader of the Red Army

Alexander Kuchaka stood on his balcony overlooking the glorious city of Moscow. Outside, his infamous Black Army was drilling and preparing to move on the Red Army. The defeat near Almaty was humallititing, but it mattered little in the grand scale. The Red Army was weak and rife with internal turmoil. He would crush it and usher the Union in a new era of prosperity and greatness.

"Sir," A figure stepped out onto the balcony with him, "Something entered our airspace a little while ago."

Kuchaka looked over to his friend, with a blank expression, "Something? What could it possibly be now?"

"We're unsure. I'm trying to get a clear report now, but as of yet the object has portrayed no hostile intent."

"Is it a scout?"

"Most likely. Your orders, sir?" Kuchaka looked out into the sky.

"Leave it be. It's certainly not rebel tech, correct?"

"Absolutely not."

"Well then, we won't bother it as long as it does not bother us. Is that all you have to report?"

"For now, yes. The situation has not evolved much." Kuchaka nodded.

"Which is for the best. The less the situation evolves, the easier it will be solve." The figure gave out a light chuckle.

"Couldn't have said it better myself, sir." And then the person left, leaving Kuchaka contemplating the future. So far, he had avoided seeing any major support for the damn Red Army from foreign countries, but it was just a matter of time till some fool provided them help.

Downdrafts caused by the cooler northern air had forced the Muninn to enter the Union's airspace at a much lower altitude than was intended. It's dark color was not just for aesthetics, but was carefully designed to absorb the vast majority of incoming radio waves, unfortunately it was far from perfect and only worked at high altitudes, far from any potential radars. The Muninn quickly climbed to nearly the top of its service ceiling, and began to listen...

Advanced receivers and the radio absorbing hull allowed the reconnicanse equipment on board to begin to pick up fragments of conversations and data transmitted over airwaves. The fragments were run through a computer and prices together as coherently as possible. Every radio transmitter, every wifi hotspot was a little star, flashing rapidly in a language known only to machines.

Information of the movements of the three armies was sent back to the Cyberiad. All private information ignored.

"It's gone now." Kuchaka was told, "It came in, and then left." He nodded.

"And you aren't sure what it was?" The man shook his head.

"Not at all. Unlike anything we've ever seen. In fact, we barely even detected it. The radar barely picked it up, and we attributed it to some bird or something. But of course the Ravens were doing a test flight in the area around the time and a little while after the small blip was noticed one of them radioed in something odd they saw in the distance. The planes circled around it, watching the object from a distance. From what I've been told there was an attempt to contact it but it was too far away. Soon enough, they lost sight of the object and couldn't find it again."

"I see," Kuchaka said, "Well, no harm no foul. It's gone now, and we're alone in our airspace again."

The man nodded, "Yes sir." And he left Kuchaka alone again.

"Through determination comes power.."
So said Victor Consuegra as he addressed the tired and jaded men and women of the Liberation Army. The golden lands of San Mazer had been stained and ravaged by the claws of foreign oppression, blasted by the flames of war and beaten as it lay crumpled in the dust for many months. The troops wavered, their uninformed minds not seeing the sense that was clouded by darkness. Most almost turned their back on this great nation when she needed them. Many had already done so. Not Victor. Stepping forward with great conviction and fire in his heart, he proved once and for all the single undeniable truth. The will of any nation triumphs over all.

Consuegra united us with a single idea. The idea of this nation, this beautiful nation, rising from the ashes and assuming its true place in this world. He won us our freedom, laid down his foundations and asked each and every one of us to continue his work. I am proud to say that we have finally embarked upon a journey of which our beloved Victor would have championed. For the last two decades, I and my fellow officials have worked tirelessly to purge our dear land of the sickness of capitalism. Never again will such a destructive ideology hold sway over our most vulnerable citizens. How can anyone support such a system, one that dehumanises the workers of our nation or destroys the community values at the heart of our people? I do not claim to know, but they have no place in modern San Mazer.

However, I know what does have a place: the loyal and hard-working citizens that have helped us take our nation to new heights. Through good and bad, rain and shine, they have made me proud to represent such a great people. Our economy has grown from strength to strength, rivalling countries that command much larger territories. Such an achievement! We San Mazerians have proven once and for all that we have the superiority in the matters of running a nation. Our military too, why ask any brave member of the Armed Forces, continues to grow mightier every day. New equipment and doctrines, extracted from the minds of San Mazer's most brilliant theorists and scientists, bolster the already incredible willpower and bravery of our fighting men and women. We can truly be proud of this achievement.

I wish to congratulate all of you for building such a nation, but our work is far from over. As the truly wretched elites of this world clash, we can see the world smoulder once again from the sparks of war. A situation threatening to ignite fully and violently into a vicious inferno. These are dangerous times for other nations, but not San Mazer. Our will and spirit will shine through and I can see clearly that the Lord himself and our beloved Victor smile at us from the heavens.

"People of the land.
Conquered by none.
We are and always will be
As one, united and free."

Your faithful Presidente,
Miguel Alvarado

Consuegra Republican Palace, Esteiro, San Mazer

Another piece done, another glass of the fine whiskey that would be enjoyed. President Alvarado never usually did the state newspaper pieces that were attributed to him weekly, but this occasion called for a special personal touch and a small amount of alcohol definitely helped to be done with it. He'd done a damn fine job of constructing a personality cult since he took power though, and it was extremely common to see whole towns and villages covered in murals and posters devoted to the "Dear Presidente". There was even plans for a monumental statue in downtown Esteiro, for all the proud San Mazerians to admire. But, it was best not to overdo it just yet, maybe once all his plans for the new San Mazer were realised...

Stepping up from his tall leather chair, Miguel couldn't help but chuckle at that fact. Between the devoted citizens, militias and paramilitaries, it was a surprise they even allocated a budget for the Ministry of Media and Information at all, they were doing a better job of convincing themselves than the government could ever do. Not that mattered too much though, it had built Miguel his personal empire after all. A lavishly decorated palace and villas all over the country, a fleet of supercars and yachts and an eye-watering personal fortune. Even the very room he was standing in, a wondrous gathering of fine art, literature and stuffed exotic animals, was down to the people of his country. They'd never know of this of course. For all they knew, Miguel was a loyal and humble servant of the people of San Mazer and would never dream of personal decadence and greed.

Looking out to the courtyard, it was easy to see why not many people knew. Surrounding the entire palace was an impressive yet imposing stone wall, patrolled intently by members of the Republican Guard. At the front gate stood the fierce silhouette of a Leopard 2E MBT, flanked on both sides by security checkpoints and machine gun emplacements. Behind them stood the monument of an old MiG, mounted triumphantly on a concrete pillar. The main courtyard itself was patrolled by more members of the Guard, and hosted numerous small IFVs and vehicles that drove around the edge of the palace. However, today there was a visitor. Miguel spied a tan, open-top M151 jeep being passed through the checkpoints. In the front seat was an uptight, harsh looking fellow in a standard officer's uniform, his chest decorated with several ribbons and patches. As the jeep came to a stop, he sprung out of it and began to move swiftly towards the palace with briefcase in-hand. Miguel knew it was important business.

A few minutes later, Miguel, now lighting up his occasional cigar, was in the meeting room of the palace and sat down with the officer, an intelligence officer known as Colonel Carrero, and a few of his close cabinet members and generals. These meetings were fairly normal and usually were only aimed at typical everyday affairs, but today's seemed different and far more pressing. "Colonel, what do you have for us today?" Miguel asked, pointing his lit Cohiba cigar intently at the briefcase on the table. "Nothing too major, just a few international murmurings." Carrero replied, pulling out a few folders and sheets from his collection of documents.

"As you may know, things have begun to escalate in Russia. It seems the Trotskite Union is on the verge of a complex civil war and the sides are looking for support.". He pulled out the messages received. "All three of the major leaders sent out communications to the world at large". Miguel rolled his cigar-clutching hand as if to gesture "Go on.". Carrero held up the communication from the Whites. "Of them, we've identified the Whites as being the most beneficial opportunity for future cooperation. The intelligence service and the defence ministers have both come to the same conclusion in that we should reply to their request of support".

Miguel weighed up the options carefully. It had been a while since San Mazer had fully committed to any major activities (clandestine-wise) in a foreign nation aside from some mild spying, but supporting the Whites against the Reds could be seen as major political gain at home, especially if such activities could be "revealed" post-war to an interested public. This was also a good opportunity to assess the capabilities of Miguel's growing regime. The vastly expanded intelligence and special forces units could finally get some much needed experience assisting the White rebels and the industry of San Mazer could definitely benefit from exporting supplies to the Whites. "Of course, Colonel." Miguel spoke up. "Get in touch with the White forces through your intelligence agents. Let them know San Mazer is looking for a little revolution to support, and wouldn't be too disinterested in providing equipment and military experts if the cause is just enough". Carrero nodded. "I'll get to work on it right away Presidente."

Sebastian Bartimaeus sat at his desk, intelligence reports from all over the world piled in random locations. His office was contemporary, decorated in a minimalist style with a walk of windows behind him, offering a breathtaking view of Citadel, the capital, illuminated in the dark with a soft blue glow.

A knock at the door caused the leader to look up from his work.
"Come in."
Orwell, the Commander-in-Cheif of the Cyberiad's military walked into the room carrying a single manila folder.
"James l, it's good to see you."
"Likewise Sebastian."
"What is that?" Bartimaeus asked gesturing to the folder.
Holding it out for his friend to take Orwell replied, "The latest intelligence reports from the Muninn."

Bartimaeus eagerly took the file and began leafing through the pages while Orwell continued.

"It appears that the 'White Army' has captured the city of Sochi while the Red has gained a foothold in Almaty. And we have evidence of transmissions from San Mazer and McFreedomstan to the White army. Both have seemingly pledged military support."

Bartimaeus sighed, rubbing his eyes he leaned back in his chair. "This has grown into a much greater issue much more quickly than anticipated. Is the Union aware of this?"

"We don't know. They are much more prone to use physical communication lines within the government; which the Muninn cannot intercept."

"I think it's time we chose a side."

"Which one?"

"Delebimus constituite chaos... our national moto. 'We will destroy those who create chaos'. This threatens to boil over into the entire world. We must act quickly to preserve as much as possible. The Union seems like the only possible side we can take to save as many lives as possible."

"What are your orders Commander Prime?"

"Is the ODIN ready to set sail?"

"Yes."

"Then get four transport ships and supply ships ready to set course for the Union as soon as I give the order. I will contact Kuchaka personally, letting him know of our willing support."

"Yes sir." Orwell saluted and walked out of the office.

Greetings from the Cyberiad and congratulations on your recent victory in the election. We have observed the situation evolving in your southern region, and have come to the conclusion that we must act to end this conflict before it spreads into a three way war. We may not see eye to eye on everything, but you are the legal leader of your country, and are the most stable path going forward. We have troops ready to embark for the Trotskite Union as soon as you give the word.

On a slightly different matter, we have a plane, the Muninn, which I am sure you noticed entered your airspace in the past 36 hours. It needs a safe place to land and refuel. We were using the Muninn to keep an eye on the situation at hand. We would be more than willing to share all information it collects if you allow it to continue to operate in your airspace.

I eagerly await your response.

After send the message, Bartimaeus stood and looked out at Citadel. His city of air and glass.

Manila, Luzon Workers' Republic, PDSS
Premier Ramon Santos was browsing through a folder containing information about the current events. Most of them were about the military, which was growing powerful ever since the reforms. However, one file caught his attention. The file was named "Trotskite Union Conflict". He read it and found out what was it about. Apparently, some were dissatisfied with the rule of the recent leader and created a group called the Red Army, which was led by two brothers by the names of Mikhail and Grigory Semyevik. However, Mikhail would leave the Red Army to create another group called the White Army. There was also another group created called the Black Army led by Alexander Kuchaka. There were reports that both the Black and White Army have foreign support but none for the Red Army. After he was finished reading the file, he began to issue a message to the leader of the Red Army.
To:Grigory Semyevik, Leader of the Red Army
From:Ramon Santos, Premier of the PDSS

It has come to our attention that a conflict has ravaged your nation and your army is in need of support. We have decided to send you weapons, ammunition and supplies to help you in fighting your enemies. Our armed forces will be ready to move to support your troops if needed,

After sending the letter, he telephoned the Marshal of the Armed Forces to send in a small group of transport planes and their escorts to be sent towards the Trotskite Union.

50 meters underground in Mount Sempu, the board of directors has assembled in their secure bunker. Each ambassador took their place in their corporate offices and began their live chat. A few dissenters had opted out of this meeting. Some due to their collective plan to work with the White Army, and some due to the current warfare raging in the Contested Territory of central Sulawesi.

CHAT LOG:
THE WHITE ARMY
[10/15] PARTICIPANTS

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

L.MARTIN: We should capitalize on the capture of Sochi.
MCDONALDS: We concur. The Red Army has also made some impressive gains against Kuchaka's forces. This should not be ignored.
WALGREENS: Playing both sides? How cliché.
L.CAESAR: Whatever works best. Grigory may be a socialist, but he's honorable enough to recognize his debts. Debts that we intend on cashing in.
MCDONALDS: Correct. We can handle the Union military on our own, but such a bold attack will prompt other nations to take sides. It's best to let the grass roots rebellion do our fighting.
APPLE: We've done a head count, only 55 of our security forces speak Russian natively. This severely hinders our infiltration abilities.
MCDONALDS: Leave that to us. Our Ukrainian and Russian franchises should be decent enough to start wet works.
L.MARTIN: Our Kazakhstan branch has a good lead on a possible FOB for any forces and equipment we deploy. There's prime land near the Kuray Mountains that's largely uninhabited.
MCDONALDS:Excellent. Have the infrastructure set up and we'll plot supply lines as soon as we can. Discretion is key here.
F.LLOYA: Should we get the Union of Property Owners in on this? We're not a fan of them, but a 900,000 strong militia could come in handy.
GOOGLE: We've had skirmishes with a few of their members. Not impressed.
APPLE: If we must, then invite the Bulwark. They're the only battle proven militia. The rest of the lot are nothing but peasants with old soviet rifles.
B.KING: How do we know the Union hasn't made it's own play? At least 80,000 of them are commies.
MCDONALDS: They lack the drive to build proper roads. We don't expect them to have the secure network infrastructure needed to wage a proper cold war.
WALGREENS: Let's flirt with the rebels for now. The Union can wait until we need cannon fodder.

230km away, the Union of Property Owners met for the first time in weeks. This Union made up of Anarchists, Fascists, Slavers, Communists, Feudal Lords, Democratic City-States, Republics, and Autonomous Communities was the largest check on corporate power in Sulawesi. Their 6,000,000 members had all pledged mutual military aid to each other, down to the last man. This led to a relatively peaceful situation within their territory, with the only persistent threat being other large militias and the corporate forces deployed on the island. This wouldn't do. The majority of their income came from their private military services. At the height of their economic recession, the Trotskite Union destroyed the century long stalemate and flooded the market with clients from across the globe. Bored, broke, and armed to the teeth, the respective leadership of the major factions sat down in their Union Headquarters and discussed the situation overseas.

UNION OF PROPERTY OWNERS - SULAWESI HEADQUARTERS

TRANSCRIPT OF MEETING: #000790

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ali Sadikin(Bulwark of United Citizens): We've yet to receive any contracts from the Trotskite Union. I suspect they're a bit apprehensive to take on mercenaries at this stage.
Ibnu Sutowo(Sulawesi Independence Army): It's not exactly the Trotskite Union, but we have a client in Estonia that requested 50 troops to secure his farmland. I think the bordering nations will be our bread and butter until something major happens.
Adjie Massaid(Sulawesi Socialist Union): Our militia has shown keen interest in supporting the status quo. We've mobilized 2,000 troops and set up adverts for any prospective clients. Kuchaka might not be the purest socialist out there, but he's the greatest hope for it's proliferation.
Mustafa Abubakar(Islamic Front): That godless sociopath deserves nothing but a public hanging. You'd be wise to steer away from him or inshallah we'll show you what a motivated army can do.
Adjie Massaid(Sulawesi Socialist Union): You couldn't take back the ethanol plant from Google and you think you can scare us? Please.
Ali Sadikin(Bulwark of United Citizens): Now's not the time to worry over ideology. We have a ฿40,000,000,000 deficit we need to recover from.
Dewa Cawu(Coalition of Autonomous Child Slavers): You have a deficit that you need to recover from. We, on the other hand, are in the black.
Ibnu Sutowo(Sulawesi Independence Army): As long as you want Union membership, you'll have to pay your part. We're the only thing holding Amazon back from raiding your plantations.
Ali Sadikin(Bulwark of United Citizens): That's correct. Now I'd suggest you quit bickering and start networking. We have guns, we have men, and we have transportation. This rebellion is our chance to strike it big. Don't squander it.

Your recent victory against Kuchaka's forces has not gone unnoticed. We at the Board reward success. We're sure you're aware,
but we've been assisting your brother in Sochi as well. Your ideologies may conflict for now, but we suspect that by the end of this
conflict, you'll both find a middle ground. Our enemy is Kuchaka, not socialism. His tyrannical streak makes it difficult to conduct
business. We can't offer too much right now, the infrastructure is just not there yet. We did manage to secure a few old war relics
for you. The Caterpillar Industries Warehouse (No.3) in Oskemen should contain the following:

    2 x FAI Armored Cars
    900 x Zastava M70 Assualt Rifles
    100,000 x 7.62x39mm munitions
55 x RPD Light Machine Guns
    1 x T-10 Heavy Tank

Not exactly war winners, but Kazakhstan isn't known for it's modern firepower.

support of your efforts. We've arranged for ฿140,000,000 to be delivered to you in cash. Consider this your allowance to purchase goods
from McFreedomstan™. Mercenaries, weapons, armored vehicles, indentured servants, food, you name it, we can get it across the border.

On a separate note, we're interested in any personnel you have that can speak English, Arabic, or Indonesian. Our army is quite large, but largely
undeployable due to the language barrier (unless you're fine with scorched earth tactics). Translators are hard to come by, it's been hell trying to find

Alexander Kuchaka sat in what was nicknamed 'The Imperial War Room', along with an assembly of his best generals and intelligence officers. ‘The Imperial War Room’ had earned it’s name a long time ago, back before Kuchaka’s time, when the room had been used by Trotsky himself and the Bolshevik party during the last Russian Civil War. The nickname never implied that the room itself was imperial, or that those in it were imperial. The name implied it was the ‘Imperial War’ room.

Kuchaka didn’t have much time to dwell on the matter of how a room got it’s name, as a collection of men began to talk, one official looking general silencing the others and starting his report. “The Red Army has continued to assert its strength over Kazakhstan, while the White Army has managed to capture Sochi.”

“They captured Sochi? How the hell did they manage that?” Kuchaka interrupted, bewildered at this news.

“After the Red Army repelled us, the still mobilizing army gathered around Sevastopol. A large portion of the Sochi guard were merged into the Sevastopol Army, and in that distraction the White Army appeared. Further news reports they’ve managed to assert a strong hold over the Caucasus region.”

“Typical.” Kuckaka sighed, “We leave one place unguarded and they manage to find out.”

“Actually, we have reason to believe that the White Army was marching on Sochi regardless of our pulling out.”

“Really?” Kuchaka paused, “And I suppose you’re going to tell me what they were looking for?”

The general nodded, “Just as we have been contacted by outside forces as a result of our statement to the outside world, it is believed that they have found certain places or organizations willing to support them as well.”

“Speaking of the diplomatic situation between us and other countries, we’ll have to decide on our plan of action regarding our supporters as well today.” Kuchaka spoke up again. The other men nodded.

“Indeed, but we should cover the internal situation first.” Kuchaka agreed, “So back to the White Army, we aren’t 100% certain of all their backers, but we do know some of them. They are powerful enemies, and it is most likely that Mikhail is being manipulated by them. Of course, it is also likely Mikhail is aware of this, and is using them. We doubt it, seeing as how the Red Army has found support from people who are also probably supporting Mikhail. On the topic of the Red Army’s backers, we’ve seized the car in Kazan, and are currently tracking the squadron sent out to retrieve it. As of now, they’re playing right into our trap.”

“Has there been any change in terms of our espionage on the Red Army? Or have they still not wisened up?”

“No sir, Grigory still has his email connected to the Federal Database. We doubt he is aware of this.”

“Perfect.”

“Mikhail on the other hand pulled his email out of the Federal Database, lending more credibility to the rumour that the two of them are definitely separated, with no cooperation between them. Incredibly lucky for us, as the Red Army is proving weak without Mikhail’s guidance. Grigory is far too rash. Our unlucky defeat has proven to have been a major boon, as the Red Army advanced far too quickly on Astana was pushed back by the forces we have stationed there. Once the Moscow Army is fully mobilized we’ll rail it over to Astana and crush the Red’s before trapping the White’s the mountains. No matter how much support they find they’ll never have the manpower to fight an extended war.”

“As expected.” Kuchaka nodded, “Now onto the other matters. The Cyberiad Council has made an interesting offer, and personally I see no downside to their assistance.”

“It should be noted their mention of their vehicle in our skies explains the sightings we had the other day.” One general spoke up, interjecting his thought into the conversation, “Clearly they have advanced technology.” The other men nodded at his words.

“But do we need them?” Another one said, “Accepting their support will put us in their debt. It might be better to solve this on our own.” Some people nodded at that.

“I’ve made my decision.” Kuchaka said, firm in his voice, “We shall inform the Cyberiads that we shall accept forces, but that we’d prefer this war stays small. We don’t need an entire nation’s army arriving in our lands now, do we?” The whole room nodded, and Alexander dismissed the meeting.

I thank you for your congratulations. It was a hard-fought election, and I am very proud of my staff for seeing me through it. I also thank you for your offer of support in my little conflict. It is clear to me you have very good information on the exact severity of it, and so I will not lie to you about the nature of it.

In truth, it has evolved far past what we expected it would, and so although the offer of your support is tempting, it is a hard question for my me. I would prefer not to see too much blood shed in my nation, but I also find the idea of a large host of troops arriving dangerous. A large number of foreign troops arriving in in the Union would make the claims the Red and White Armies put out more easy to believe, and I could see the conflict grow to an extreme level in that case. So while the thought of help is tempting, I’ll have to accept on the condition that the forces you send over remain minimal.

And on the topic of the Muninn, I will be perfectly happy to accommodate it.

Alexander Kuchaka

Meanwhile, as the Black Army met to discuss its policy for the ongoing war, Grigory and his men were marching from Almaty towards Astana for a second time, determined to take the city and secure complete control over the region.

He had sent out a force to secure the armored car Nestle had promised him in Kazan, and he had told the men to drive back to Astana with it, as by then he was sure him and his forces could capture the city. Things had not gone according to plan, however, as the first assault had resulted in defeat. But this time, he would not underestimate the enemy and would take that city!

And of course, this time he had a secret weapon. The cache in Oskemen. Once he had recovered that, his forces would drive straight west and roll right into Astana..

Meanwhile, as they marched, Grigory took time to respond to some messages he had received. First order of business, the lovely board of directors.

Furthermore, Mikhail and the White Army were increasingly busy as time went went on. As they continued to centralize power in the region, they found themselves nearly bombarded with support. Between San Mayer and the mysterious Board of Directors, Mikhail was starting to feel like he could actually challenge the Black Army soon enough. The White Army was currently just waiting in Sochi, but Mikhail was driving out to the spot San Mayer had mentioned. He had brought along one of his most loyal men to drive for him, so he could respond to the Board.

Port Gilead was a hive of activity as ships were being loaded with munitions and missiles and various other supplies. Orwell was about to cross the gangway when he heard a voice call his name. He turned to see Bartimaeus standing on the dock.

"What brings you this far from the capital?"

"I came to see you off. You represent the fighting spirit of our country; and you are embarking into waters we have not dared to brave in one hundred years."

"You always were a little too poetic for my taste."

Bartimaeus couldn't help but crack a smile.

"But thank you, Sebastian."

"The Union has accepted our help, but request that it remains at a minimum. To respect their wishes I am asking you to only send two troop transport ship, and one armored infantry ship."

"That's only two legions! Two thousand troops, what am I supposed to to do with that?"

"Protect the innocent people that stand to lose everything. And show them that we are a powerful ally; make them ask for more of our troops."

"Yes sir. I will show them the power of Cyberiad steel!"

With that the two men saluted and parted. Minutes later the ODIN was under-weigh, escorting the transport frigates alongside another Battleship, and a Dreadnought (missile cruiser).

Meanwhile, in the Trotskite Union, the Muninn was requesting permission to land at the designated airstrip. After they had landed, the crew opened the rear ramp and exited the plane. They were greeted by a Union official, the navigator represented the group because he was the only one that spoke any Russian. He told him that the Muninn was now under Trotskite orders, and would report all information they were asked to gather.

Nestle Flotilla Relocating?

Image

Two Type 054A frigates docked in Trabzon.

Have you noticed the lack of ships as of late? We certainly have, and for good reason. The Nestle Autonomous Flotilla, in a historic move, has split off a significant portion of their fleet. Our foreign correspondents report that just 240km from the coast of Russia, two Type 054A frigates and their seven escort corvettes have docked in the port city of Trabzon. Officially, they're there to conduct retrofits with a Turkish contractor, though critics claim that the company has ulterior motives. Nestle has not responded to these accusations, and in the interest of not experiencing a McChlorine™ Gas attack in the near future, we will refrain from proliferating this rumor. Tune in to our nightly podcast as we discuss potential effects of this new power vacuum in seas of Sulawesi.

Our Valued Associate,

Our IT department has warned us of potential eavesdroppers on our communications. As such, measures have been taken
to maintain discretion between all our interactions. It is imperative that you hold Sochi. As long as you can keep a port open,
we can effectively subsidize your war effort. We will continually send shipments to our Sochi Shipyard containing food,
weapons, and personnel. We've gone through hell trying to find fluent Russian speakers, but our associates in Georgia managed to
hire 300 able bodied fighters. They should be fully cooperative with whoever you decide is best to lead them.

Due to increased Trotskite surveillance, we have designated three official Nestle® cargo trucks for your use. They should allow
your men to ferry supplies around with discretion. Your first supply drop should be ready by the time you read this message.

Here is the manifest:
    250Kg of Nestle Instant Coffee
    600 x 24 Bottles of Nestle® Purified Drinking Water™
35 x Security Personnel (Civilian garb, recognizable by their grey ushankas)
    20 x OZM anti-personnel mines
5 x DShK Heavy Machine Guns
    25,000 x 12.7×108mm munitions

Your friends,

SECURITY - NESTLE®

Lerhavirbuter wrote:Discussions on what to do continued in the meeting room, no clear resolution had come out yet, and every minister and even the president seemed to be tired. It was noted that all the coffee in the staff room had disappeared. Amidst all the discussion, a channel was opened on the main screen.

"We have gathered information on all three fronts,"

it was 4 am in Lerhavirbuter city and the operator seemed unlawfully tired,

"It took us a while, but their encryption was nothing in comparison to our countries' technology"

"We have also gathered information on their allies and, it may be risky to even intervene at all."

"The government and black army have the support of the Cyberiad Council and the White and Red army have support from McFreedomstan."

The discussions stopped dead in its tracks. Silence once again blanketed the discussion room as it did 8 hours prior.

"Well, it is well noted that the new leader, Alexander Kuchaka is not favored by either the party or the public, his actions have broken many laws and its fair to say that helping either the white or red army would be the right thing to do."

The presidents head was hurting, each choice had massive repercussions on both the union and the world. Trotskite government and the black army was better off in numbers and firepower in contrast to the rebels. However, the government did commit major crimes which could not be glossed over.

After a while of discussion, it was finally decided that Lerhavirbuter will aid both the white and red army on overthrowing the current chairman. The votes ended in 7-3 and the 3 ministers left the meeting room in rage.

Dear forces of the Rebellion,
Greetings, we are the representatives of the Republic of Lerhavirbuter and your efforts to overthrow the tyrannical chairman has not gone unnoticed. You may notice from the email recievers list that this email is being sent to both you and your brother. We at Lerhavirbuter do not wish to choose sides as currently, your enemy is Kuchaka, you cannot risk fighting each other as it would leave you wide open if the Black army attacks. We know that both your ideologies may collide but we believe that you two will come to an agreement at some stage.

We can't aid you much in sheer firepower but, we have one of the most advanced computer systems in the world and we could aid you in providing you with intel on both the enemy's locations and communications. We can also give you control over some of our military satellites and military drones if there is a need. We can also aid in production, transportation of both weapons and supplies.

We hope you find our proposition useful.

Best of wishes,
Representatives of the Republic of Lerhavirbuter
Ps. As a heads up, the Cyberiad Council is willing to sent an entire army if the Trotskite Union wishes, luckily, they have rejected all but 2 battalions.

Er, Lerhavirbuter, you didn't apply in the OOC thread. I didn't notice the first time, but I'll have to void your posts till you apply to the acceptable standards contained within the OOC thread. https://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=392416

Malta, Valletta

Ahh Malta, the heart of the Greater Merchant Republic of the Mediterranean, a state just established a mere century and a half ago. From its humble beginnings as the overlords of Malta and Sicily, it has grown exponentially, with ports in sunny Gibraltar to the holy city of Antioch. With all these ports come exponential amounts of money and high quality warships to defend the ports of the Republic.

Now that the Grand Peace has ended, it was time to expand the military against any belligerents wishing the downfall of the monetary bastion. And speaking of monetary bastions, McFreedomstan's markets seemed to be the perfect prey for being swamped by our Mediterranean marketing and products. A trade agreement would be needed to do this though.

[Blocktext] Greetings fellow manipulator of money, we in the Republic wish to have a lasting trade agreement with your nationstate, we believe that, with our economic abilities, we can gain untold amounts of money. This is also the first step for improving our relations. I await eagerly for a reply.[Blocktext]
