Proudly We Hailed

Your Majesty, for near-on forty years now I have been a loyal and patriotic supporter of the government. I have voted constitutionalist for most of my life, my family has, and my parents did. I have always considered my position in the military and as a voter to assist and help the common man, but recently I have learned otherwise.

This government has failed. Our imperial republican traditions washed out by greed and selfish behaviors. Attitudes that run rampant in government office and the House of Burgesses itself. Many in the military have felt the same, and as General, I worked diligently to assuage their fears and secure their loyalties to the state. However I realize now that even the constitution can be flawed when written by vile men. That even the best of intentions can be perverted by greed.

You have permitted, time and time again, for Mosley and his ilk to run free through the country and sabotage countless examples of Vanessian society. They have defeated the nationwide healthcare policies, defended corporate practices that pollute the environment, and voted overwhelmingly to invade the sovereignty of another. For all of these great injustices, I had remained quiet and now I realize I was once a coward hiding in uniform. Now the government comes for our democracy, to trample on the last honorable tradition of our state that has yet to be destroyed. Instead of preventing them, you have remained silent. You, as Emperor, have done nothing for the Vanessian people worthy of that title or respect.

I can not in good faith continue to watch in the sidelines as crooks destroy everything I hold dear. Everything that the people hold dear. Not in a thousand years would I have ever thought that I would one day side with the communists. The syndicalists. But the value of democracy is the central identity of the Vanessian people, and to so callously remove it; well, perhaps I will find comfort in those who value human life.

For the President, instead of protecting the merits of democracy as he was elected to do, has turned to cronyism. Mosley has condemned this great nation to failure, lashing out against critics and preventing anyone from questioning him. From resisting him. His decision to ban coalitions has crippled the government’s opposition and I would feel confident in the supreme court ruling against him, if it was not for that he had appointed them. Not since the times of westward expansion has the unity of the imperial federation been this threatened. If his goal was to disrupt the syndicalists and prevent their rise to power, then he has failed. While the President and your cabinet have spent the past month quarrelling over war and the rise of communist philosophies in the nation, the syndicalists have been preparing. They have been preparing to defend themselves, from the President, from the House, and from you, Emperor. You are the most prime example of a puppet, ever bowing to the constitutionalist demands. They have struck a dagger into the Vanessian people and you have done nothing.

They prepare for war, the syndicalists and communists do, and they are blameless for it. It is my sworn duty to serve the monarch and president, but as you both proven to be against freedom and liberty, neither you or him can claim to legitimately fill your posts. Therefore, I have resolved to do the only thing I can do, which is to serve the people and restore democracy to our homeland. Many others feel the same. Consider this my resignation in the military, as the government’s actions have refuted its constitutional authority, and I am forced to seek commission with the syndicalists and offer them my services.

As Napoleon once said, victory belongs to the most persevering. It is now time to turn to the familiar drums of human history, and the strongest belief shall emerge victorious.

I deeply regret that it has come to this, but the Federation has given me no other choice. You have given me no other choice. May God have mercy on all our souls and may He guide whatever future awaits us.

Daniel King, General of the Army

Background

With the restless and tired masses of the Vanesian people, who have long struggled for the expansions of their liberties against a rather stoic and centrist government, the prohibition of coalitions was the breaking point for all sides. In the state of Chippewa Governor Sharpe surprised none when he tore up his resignation request on live TV, claiming that the federal government was a “faulty fraud” and putting in motion a catalyst of similar acts across the nation. Communists, syndicalists, socialists and other left-wing groups have risen up in unity to resist the government’s attempts to break them, and all eyes turn to war as Governor Sharpe allies with the working classes of Pueblo and California, and the many associations of labor across the nation in order to form their Worker’s Commonwealth.

But it is not only the leftists who are in open rebellion, for across the nation supporters of capitalism and libertarian thinking have risen to the challenge, destined to fight both the crippled federal government and the left-wing alike. And in parts of the southern Vanessian states, a movement of patriotic and conservative elements have launched their own campaign to unify the country.

The country is no more, the government torn to shreds as many officers and government officials throw their hats in with the competing three, either for personal gain or for their own morals.

Factions

The Leftist Alliance - Officially known as the Worker’s Coalition, the resistance movement is comprised of thousands of smaller leftist ideologies and groups united in the singular purpose of retaking the country for the benefit of all people. The conglomeration of socialists, communists, anarchists and syndicalists is generally led by former governor Robert Sharpe, but there is a multitude of leaders stretched across the many pockets of worker movements. The alliance supports the creation of a socialist/syndicalist state, the international cooperation with other like-minded groups, a general resistance of capitalism, and a mass organization of the government into general unions, under a “One Big Union” philosophy. Furthermore the alliance supports a de-escalation of conflicts with the world and a partial downgrade of the military capabilities of the country, as well as establishing general healthcare, welfare services and help for the common worker. While composed of many associated groups, the alliance is primarily socially libertarian, wanting to protect the ideas of liberty and freedom that the Vanessian constitution holds dear.

International Capitalist Network - Consisting of multitudes of businessmen, politicians, former lobbyists and capitalist-supporters, the ICN has risen to the task of combating economic regulations and leftists groups, instead opting for an increasingly libertarian view of the economy and civil liberties. Led by former representative James Warren, a billionaire, alongside many other members, the ICN pushes for the establishment of a “directorate of sorts”, which would allow free enterprise and corporate growth in the country. The organization supports a massive reform of the government of the nation, wishing to weaken significantly the power of the federal authority in favor of local administrations and private citizens, especially in order to create larger “superstates” that will function as devolved geopolitical administrations across the nation. The ICN favors removing hard regulations on business and corporate interests and only keeping the bare minimum of soft regulations on companies across the nation. Especially important, the movement wishes to establish good relations across the globe with like-minded democracies and capitalist countries and establish free-trade policies with them, even permitting companies to diversify in other nations without permission of the Vanessian federal government.

Vanessian Patriot Movement - The Patriot Movement, heavily inspired from the beliefs and followers of deceased politician Rick Everett, is an increasingly popular group in parts of the more conservative southern Imperial Federation, actively establishing their goals to protect the moral and social conservative fabrics of Vanessian society. Largely lead by Lewis Oscar Middleton, the patriots are a collection of Vanessians who actively value a society that protects morality and the value of life. The organization pushes for mandatory drafting, zero-tolerance laws, heavily regulated immigration, and the right of businesses and people to deny any customer against their beliefs. The majority of the members value an ideology of giving back to the people and government, strengthening society through military and public service, and providing incentives for loyalty and performance to the state. The Patriot Movement also exemplifies the ideas of cultural and racial unity, focusing on the belief that government is derived from the traits and values of the people.

OOC and Rules

Hey! Welcome to the Proudly We Hailed thread, a RP that’s designed to be accessible to everyone and allow nations to take an active part in influencing the future of the people and government of Vanesse. This RP won’t be extremely focused on fighting and open warfare, although that will be happening a lot in the background, but will instead focus on the efforts of each nation in supporting their side in the triumvirate war for the succession of the Vanessian government. This RP is intended to work in a way where nations can pick a side and send resources and people to assist them, or even allow their own private citizens to freely organize with the Vanessian political groups and fight for dominance in the country. All three groups are distinct from each other, with their own values that revolve around the traditions and beliefs of the country and people. Don’t try outwardly trying to influence their beliefs, however, the groups are extremely open to diplomacy and working out deals and agreements with foreign nations. This isn’t supposed to be a RP where you just declare war and use force, as it’s intended to primarily be a proxy conflict inside Vanesse that foreign powers can sway with their own means.

As for rules, they’re pretty simple to understand. No one is allowed to support the former federal government or to make their own faction, since this is still my nation and I want to at least steer the direction we go into. Don’t actively try to make this a war RP, since it’s mainly focused on the contributions that people and their perseverances can bring to an organization. Instead focus on smaller aspects, playing the political game and winning allegiances with the people; providing your constituents with weaponry and perhaps providing auxiliary soldiers to even fight alongside them.

That’s pretty much everything that’s big, though if you feel uncomfortable you can always run it by me in telegram. Remember, always have fun and be fair to everyone else!

Parliament Hill, Vancouver
It was a chilly September morning in the capital city of Vancouver as thousands gathered around the entrance to Parliament patiently waiting to hear from Prime Minister Tremblay. The entire country already knew the outcome of the session, but still wanted to hear what their leader had to say.
Eyes turned and cameras focused on the podium as the Prime Minister stood before the many thousands of people gathered onto the capital grounds.
"Peoples of New England, Canada, and the World, one of our closest allies, friends, and partners, Vanesse, has fallen into a state of internal conflict, claiming that their federal government has failed them. And now because of this, the future of our two nations and our peoples has come into question" he began after straightening his tie and adjusting the microphone. "...However, this does not mean we will simply idle by and watch as our neighbours torch themselves and collapse into oblivion, therefore, this government will do what is necessary to ensure stability in North America" he stated as he glanced up from a copy of the speech on the podium taking note of the crowds completely focused on him, not a single one of them saying a word. "Our first and foremost objective will be to secure the border to ensure our national security and to converse with our friends and allies about the current situation. I can't promise you that the times ahead will be easy, but, I can promise you that we will move past this crisis and continue progressing forward as a whole nation."

Ciudad Almanza, FSU
Asamblea Popular

It was a calm and cool morning day in the city of Almanza. All across the nation, the people of the state were well asleep from a past day of celebration. It was the People’s Festival week, and every city took part in their own way. In Ciudad Almanza, hanging cloths and flying colors dominated the skyline and the streets were glossed over in bright paints and mâché.

Not many would be awake at such an early hour. The sun had just begun its warming climb over the east and the streets were still darkened by the shadows of skyscrapers. Minorities of individuals walked the street, either emergency workers reporting for duty or garbage collectors fighting the increased trash for the week. The sleeping city continued such.

However upon the central district of the city plaza, where most of the government buildings stood, was a few enlightened offices on the facade of the People’s Congress, the esteemed building where the council met to decide on legislation. Notably was the office of the Chairwoman, Fiona Cavazos, with blinds aside and a most illuminated interior. Inside she sat her desk, typing away at her computer and waiting for a very special guest to arrive.

Soon there was a knock on the door, and not wanting to be rude, the Chairwoman herself went to open it. She smiled, seeing the unfamiliar face of Colonel Angelo Téllez that she recognized from a dossier she read up on.

She escorted him over to the desk, where for a moment she excused herself to finish reading a note on her computer’s screen before addressing him.

“You must be wondering why I have requested your presence, Colonel?”

“Quite,” he answered curtly with sleepy eyes.

“You have heard the news, about Vanesse and civil crisis, I’m sure. For an exceptionally long time, long as anyone can remember, we have been at odds with their state.”

“Capitalists and socialists rarely get along.”

“Exactly, Colonel. With the changes in the stability of Vanesse, this provides a certain opportunity for ourselves to follow the teachings of Almanza.”

The Colonel stared at her for a moment, taking in what she had said before requesting that she continue.

“The Vanessian government has faltered and in its place rise three distinct groups. We care not about two of them, but this Worker’s Coalition represents our values. They could prove to be fruitful allies, provided that they emerge victorious.”

“Does the President know about this?”

Cavazos smiled. “Yes. Of course. He called me while on the trip to Havana.” She recollected her thoughts before continuing. “We are at a position where we may assist the socialists of Vanesse in their fight and secure a fellow ally. You can see that happen.”

“What is required of me Señorita?”

“I need you to go to the Mexican ports, to provide your service as a commander to the Vanessian revolutionaries in their fight against tyranny. I won’t make this too political Colonel, but much resides on our capabilities in the North American theater.”

“I’ll need forces. Supplies. Equipment.”

“Already taken care of. I sent a general notice to the military requesting volunteers, we stopped at five-hundred. P.I. then sent a request to the people. We’ve consolidated a force of 3,000 individuals along with what weapons we could spare.”

The Colonel sighed, thinking of the difficulties that they would face in an uphill battle.

“Shall I leave immediately?”

“They are waiting for you at the port Colonel. Make us proud.”

She watched silently as the Colonel exited the office, exhaling loudly from the excessively formal encounter. The Colonel’s men would arrive in lower Vanessian Mexico, giving Cavazos some time to draft a letter to Robert Sharpe, who was proving to be quite an enigma.

Most Esteemed Robert Sharpe,

My name is Fiona Cavazos, Chairwoman of the Council of the Federal Socialist Union. I am writing to inform you that the Vanessian worker’s plea for help has not fallen on deaf ears. Quite the contrary. The Council decided unanimously that assisting you in protecting the worker’s revolution is our righteous duty and one that I have been requested to carry out.

While we are not wealthy in finances and means above that which our people can achieve naturally from the land, what we have to spare will be provided in this revolution. I have instructed with great task a few of our civilian barges to arrive at Manzanillo, in Mexico. They will be bringing weaponry, humanitarian aid and food, but most importantly they will be bringing our own flesh and blood. 3,000 of our own workers have volunteered to travel and fight for the liberation of your working class, to protect your people from exploitation, under the leadership of Colonel Angelo Téllez. The Colonel is a wise and passionate man, understanding of the importance of the revolution. He will surely benefit your cause greatly, and I implore you to instruct him to where the fighting is the most - for surely we can make a difference.

With everything willing, the blood that will spill here will never be forgotten and will not be wasted.

Chairwoman Cavazos

Empire of Edelreich
Ministry of the Kaiserreich

To: Lewis Oscar Middleton

Mr. Middleton,

The Empire of the Edelreich is keenly aware of the events taking part in Vanesse. It has shocked us to the core that this could happen, a once pride nation degraded to brothers fighting brothers. This will have repercussions for years, but the Edelreich will do it’s best to alleviate the costs of war for Vanesse and its people, following a successful conclusion of the war.

His Majesty the Kaiser believes that you represent the best hope for the future of the state. He has wished for me to convey the utmost sympathies in your plight. Naturally, the Edelreich would take no position that would threaten the sovereignty of another. Self-determination is one of our greatest values. However this situation could threaten the entire balance of power in North America, and in order to protect our own interests there, it is clear to assist you.

We will be sending a selection of weaponry and equipment along the southern coast of Vanesse, docking at our colony of Marchzell. There we have already made ready some military equipment, along with what vehicles were in the colonial reserve, to be donated to your forces.

Hopefully this is satisfactory and will prove useful in the upcoming weeks. God bless.

Harald Alexander von Preußen,
Minister of the Kaiserreich

Aeurian Empire
Ministry of Foreign Affairs

TO: Mr. James Warren

Mr. Warren,

The Aeurian Crown grows increasingly concerned at the prospect of current tensions in Vanesse escalating into armed conflict. Not only would such a war devastate your nation but upset the delicate balance of power in the Americas. As a global empire with political and financial interests on every continent, the Crown feels it in Aeuria's best interest to prevent or otherwise contain any potential threats to Vanessian stability.

You and your International Capitalist Network represent the best of Vanessian ideals: free enterprise, hard work, and unrivaled ingenuity. For more than 40 years both Aeuria's government and private sector have invested heavily in Vanessian markets despite costly regulations, tariffs, and financial hurdles. It is with this history and understanding that the Aeurian government formally extends its political and financial support to you, James Warren, and the International Capitalist Network.

With Vanessian politics becoming evermore divisive and adversarial, the Crown believes your ICN is the key needed to unlock Vanesse's gilded future. For too long has Vanessian industry been chained down by regulatory committees, legislation, and government interference. The Crown feels a relationship between the Empire and the ICN would be mutually beneficial. Vanessian capitalism must be safeguarded against the threat of Communism whatever the cost.

Mr. Warren, to better convince you of Aeuria's conviction to furthering your cause, I have been authorized to inform you exactly how we intend to help. While we understand the ICN possesses a great deal of material wealth, the Crown is prepared to make a base contribution of 10 (ten) billion Denarii. In matters of force, the Imperial Navy's First Fleet, currently stationed around Freehland's southern coast, could move north and provide both missile and artillery strikes to assist in the speedy capitulation of the country's Western coast in a matter of days. In addition, the empire maintains significant military supply depots throughout Freehland whose contents can be made available to ICN forces upon request.

While at this time we cannot commit Aeurian ground forces, we are pleased to offer the ICN as much military hardware as needed in addition to an offer of a Command Division to assist in the training, oversight, and command of your fighters.

To your success,

Lord Richard Bordeaux,
Minister of Foreign Affairs

Dear Mr. James Warren,

As your neighbors to the south, the Maurepas government is of course closely monitoring the situation in your territory with regard to the rapidly failing federal government. The prospect of a Vannesse Government opposed to free trade and enterprise essential to the economy not just along the Gulf Coast but across the entire world, as well as the idea of a nationalist aggressor being unpalatable to our own tastes, it is the opinion of the Crown and the Federal Maurepas Government that the International Capitalist Network be the victors of your current conflict.

It is therefore the position of Maurepas to offer what materials and funding as is required by your faction to win this brewing civil matter.

Cordialement,

Marie LeBeau,
Conseil d'État

Jocard finally had a new job. Sure it was now as a letter courier, but it was better than driver/babysitter of the royals. That job offered little but creature comforts and Jocard wanted field work. Jocard sighed as he stepped off the train, he hadn't even really been all that useful on that particular outing since all he did was watch the King schmooze, he didn't develop any new contacts or anything. The trip just seemed to...fizzle. By the time he got back a Republic ceased to exist on the map, and Vanesse became an even bigger superpower overnight. A super power that was seemingly crumbling at the seams.

Officially he was now the personal assistant of Marie LeBeau and was currently in Vanesse to deliver the Conseil d'État's personal correspondence to a man Maurepas considered a valuable potential ally. Unofficially he was here to offer that man services beyond those contained in his letters. The services of the Guilds of Maurepas crime syndicate. If James Warren wanted a man assassinated, the Assassins Guild was at his service, or it could be as simple as the bank accounts of important people, or even just some juicy dirt or gossip, the Thieves Guild offered many such services and none need know it was connected to Mr. Warren in the least.

Letter in hand, Jocard arrived at the building he'd been directed to in the Vanesse territory occupied by the ICN forces. Putting on his most cordial face, he entered hoping to obtain a meeting with if not Warren himself, than a high ranking member of his inner circle...

Mr. James Warren,

I apologize for the briefness of this message, I have found myself incredibly busy as of late meaning I do not have much time to compose a longer letter to you, but I digress.

We the peoples of New England can not say with a hundred percent certainty that we entirely support the government you wish to establish, however we do believe that out of the three contesting groups in what remains of your nation, excluding the federal government of course, your ICN is the most reasonable group for us to support in this time of conflict. If you have not heard, this Parliament wishes to, and will fund, supply, and assist your forces to ensure a quick and decisive victory over the other factions, as well as diplomatically support your claim to the entire nation. But, in exchange for our support we wish to host and accept any innocent Vanessian civilians into our nation wanting to wait out the crisis until it is resolved.

At the moment our military's priority is to secure our border including the Great Lakes and the Atlantic and Pacific coasts, so we will be unable to commit a large number of military forces for the time being, but I can personally assure you that the necessary funding and supplies will be underway by the time you receive this message which should hopefully give you and your forces an early advantage against the other factions.

We are willing to stand with you to end this conflict and bring about a return of peace to your nation.

Sincerely,
The Rt. Hon. David Tremblay, P.C., M.P.

The Imperial Council on Foreign Affairs and Stately Matters of Xathuecia

To Sovereign Leader Robert Sharpe:

The Imperial Republic of Xathuecia is contacting you, primarily Consular Tiberio Penn, for the purpose in aiding the Worker's Coalition in successfully gaining traction in but not limited to Mexico, California, and the West Coast. While we cannot openly aid, the Xathuecian people have known socialism to work. The Patriot movement is not strong and will surely fall out of favor. And the Capitalists have already left scars on Xathuecia from the days of Bayo Lito. And so with a nation behind us, we will begin sending military supplies such as arms, ammunition, and the like to increase your chances. These will be delivered with regular trade supplies escorted by military ships under the pretext of fearing rebel attacks. As well as these weapons will come MRE's in preparation for feeding the soldiers efficiently and allowing the civilian population to feel well fed increasing morale. Lastly, the millions of Mexicans now living in Xathuecia will be allowed to freely returned and will still be considered Xathuecian citizens. This dual citizenship will hopefully be respected and may act as a cause of entry into the war with a more freer touch. If you wish to communicate, please contact the embassies within Quba or Great Warrior Rivers secretly.

- Sincerely

X

To: Warren, James
From: Bacert, Samuel

I did what you said and made quick travel to west Illinois. I can not help but feel guilty. We’ve surrendered Wabash to the reds, and before long they will have a united northern front against us. Please tell me this is part of the plan Warren.

To: Bacert, Samuel
From: Warren, James

It is part of a plan Mr. Bacert. Please, I understand that you are are extremely passionate about our progress in the north, but you must understand we have considerable stocks at play in the south and west. We have to face the facts, trying to hold Wabash and the northern corridor will only weaken our lines elsewhere. I’d rather lose the hoosiers for a month if it means taking the west and consolidating our troops to a smaller line. If you haven’t realized we’re short on generals since they all turned red.

To: Warren, James
From: Arenas, Sally

As requested, I’ve reached out to our forces in the west and spoke personally with the Brigadier General. Schmitt was very colorful in his language, but reported decent (acceptable levels!) of progress along the western front. Especially against the Federals. I apologize for the language, but General Schmitt wanted to me to specifically remind you that he "is a Marine, not a fucking camel”, and that our forces in the West are not properly equipped for prolonged fighting. I believe he may be exaggerating; our troops in California and Hamilton successfully pushed back the federals, securing large swaths of land and weakening their control

To: Directorate Board
From: COL Boggs, Michael

Incredible progress being made in the Mexican theater. We allowed the communists to attack the federal resistance in the east, and when they were weakened, rode in and defeated both of them. Similar success along the entire line; red army in retreat. If I was a guessing man, I would assume their lines are too long to hold. Even with those numbers of theirs. MAJ Boley took the initiative and detached a brigade to Salton Sea to probe the Coalition’s strength. Reported minimal resistance, took the sea. We should consider attacking in Pueblo soon.

To: All Commanding Officers
From: Lewis Oscar Middleton

Beautiful work out there boys! Our forefathers would be proud of the progress we’re making. The 1st Army swarmed up north and those bastards never saw what hit them, we scarcely loss a man in the fight! I would also like to inform everyone that we have a new shipment of weaponry coming out your way. German arms. Make sure to hand them out to the most capable fighters, every bullet will need to count in this fight. God save Vanesse.

To: Robert Sharpe
From: Daniel King

Major loss in the Mexican front today. ICN outsmarted us and surrounded our advance party while we were clearing out the federal pockets. We retreated quickly but not without casualties. I fear the Mexican front may be too long to hold at its current state. If we fallback further south, could use terrain to advantage. Something to consider. How goes the rest of the fight?

To: Daniel King
From: Robert Sharpe

Thank you for your notice General. It’s a shame that we lost people, but I fear unless we can secure a united effort across the country, this will continue to be the case. It fairs well in the north for the moment. We’re short on experienced military leaders up here, but the union organizers have taken quickly to managing our attacks instead. I also accredit some of our victories to our Appalachian fighters. They took southern Erie with no air support. At this rate, we may just unite our forces yet.

To: Robert Sharpe
From: Evan Moffet

I’m writing to inform you that Captain Karl Dawson was killed in combat. The southerners surprised us with a sudden push through federal land and forced us back to Ada, Muskogee. Even with the barricades we erected, they were too much of a match for us. We’ll mourn for the night and regroup with our union comrades in the morning.

ICN
Richmond, Virginia

“Paging Mr. Warren.” The secretary’s voice suddenly rang out from the intercom. “Paging Mr. Warren.”

He looked up suddenly with a sudden shock, having been intently reading a memo sent from the ICN forces in Mexico. Headquartered in an office building, the ICN were safe behind enemy lines and Warren operated as the head of the impromptu 'government' of the state. The office had been seeing some shortages for a while now, a lack of paper supplies since the revolution started. Though that was the least of his troubles.

“Yes. You got me.”

“Sorry Mr. Warren, but someone is here to see you.”

“Who?”

“Maurepasan man. He’s from the government.”

“Send him in dear.”

Warren stood up and cleared his desk, having guessed that he’d have visitors in town soon.

Lord Bordeaux,

I would like to personally thank you for your offer of assistance in this horrible conflict that plagues our nation. We are beset on both sides by our fellow Vanessians, who have been tricked by liars and cheats to believe our cause evil and unjust. The finances you have offered us will prove instrumental in the fight to win back our nation. Our own assets have been weakened by this fight, with many of our previous creditors having been incapacitated. I’ve personally been using my own wealth to outfit our forces and make sure they are properly fed.

As for your offer of assistance through you navy, I fear I would have to decline out of humanity’s sake. Even with the fighting across our country, and regardless of the side they take, we are all Vanessians. I can’t allow a wanton bombing, knowing that it will only destroy the infrastructure of civilians and result in us having to repair it in the future. However your offer of military advisors would be a welcome addition to our arsenal. We are sorely lacking individuals with military training or experience.

James Warren

Message:

It has come to the Alcasian Republic's attention that the State of Vanesse has fallen into discourse. This is very unfortunate for the people of the Vanessian Republic, however, it is very important for the Alcasian Republic, and indeed for the rest of the world, that stability is reinstated within the smallest amount of time possible.

Your organization, the International Capitalist Network, is recognized by the Alcasian Republic as the most Vanessian-representative organizations that have arisen with the wake of these outbreaks. Not only will the International Capitalist Network overturn Vanessian's oppression of its people in favor of a liberal, more fair democracy for its citizenry, but it with great confidence that the ICN will be the most appropriate in the governance of a powerful state such as Vanesse. It is with great honor that I have approval from the government in Paris to extend our hand and services to you and your people so that the ICN may regain the power necessary to stabilize the Vanessian State.

In our extension, the Alcasian Republic has approved my jurisdiction of all of Alcase's mission to Vanesse, and therefore I have been given authorization to aid the International Capitalist Network in materials, foodstuffs, and information as is needed. The Alcasian Republic's Naval Force, under the jurisdiction of Paris, has already mobilized and began moving a fleet towards the western Atlantic for security purposes.

Please, if anything is needed, do not hesitate to contact our Embassy.

Many regards,

The Riverian Syndicate Council

To The De Facto Leaders of The Leftist Alliance;

For hundreds of years, we have toiled under the cruel eye of the established bourgeois class. They have chained us, enslaved us to work to their meaningless standards, and sell humanity as a commodity, and not virtue. They have taken all that the word has held dear, and attached value to it. The bourgeois places little value upon republicanism and free will, and all capitalist ventures into a proletarian movement have failed. These "republics" are but facets of the ruling class to stifle the needs of the peasantry which exists now in Vanesse. The working person has chafed under their bonds in your country to a point where a violent revolution against the status quo was not only possible, but inevitable for the advancement of global socialism. It has come to the attention of the Riverian Syndicalist Council, the Highest Lawmakers of our Republic, that there is a mighty struggle in which the workers of Vanesse find themselves. It is with not, however, with a heavy heart that we recognize the death of the old capitalist de jure regime, or that we find you in this struggle now. It is best of all of us, for our lives, this movement, and our people, to coordinate efforts to bring the fight to this ruling class. It appears only then will they understand our class struggle.

As of September xx, 2016, there are leaders of our own socialist movement valiantly amassing towards the North, so that they may be of use during your overthrow of a tyranny so great, and so flawed in purpose. Included in these men and women are great General Francisco Guervo, first retaliator against underground capitalist movements and black markets that plagued our people in the 1960's, and numerous Punic colonels who will be able to communicate with your other officers effectively. These glorious proletarians know the terrain of Mexico well- they have lived in it, and the men they now fight with are our neighbors, despite the arbitrary borders that we have established.

Along with that, a vigorous pamphlet movement investing millions of Florés has been unanimously passed in our upper chambers, and got the President's approval to sign into effect yesterday that targets Mexicans and those on the coast of the Pacific not yet engaged in the fight for a new Socialist Republic. Unmarked and non-hostile air vehicles are being utilized to the fullest effect to make sure even the lowest farmer be educated with the civil war that eclipses us now. "Be a revolution of mercy, love, and compassion to the conquered, and you shall find victory," said the late Hugo Jacques, socialist philosopher of the 20th century. If this work still holds true, it is necessary for you to participate yourselves in the politics of the people, interested in the welfare of the people, before you sign them up to fight. The Riverians promise you a bright future- you and your comrades are at it's helm.

Do not slow down now. The liberation is near.

Mr. James Warren,

On behalf of the New English military I would like to apologize for the delay in providing the promised supplies and hardware to your cause, setting up more adequate patrols along our southern border was more time consuming than we expected. However, we are now ready to proceed and will begin as directed.

We hope for a productive relationship in the days to come Mr. Warren, and I wish you the best.

LA
Oxnard, Pueblo

In the distance, roaring fire. The sound of guns across an evening sky. A cacophonous melody that lit up the air with smoke and fire and sent people fleeing in all directions as the caldron of death began to spill in the west.

This had been a common occurrence for the men of the Andrew Jackson Brigade the past few days, who fought bravely for the worker revolution in the east. Communication with the experienced commanders in Mexico was often difficult, and the eastern syndicalists had little understanding of their situation in Pueblo. The lack of organization led to uncoordinated moves, such as how the multitudes of labor fighters in the west had been doing.

The brigade sat watching for one entire day, noting the strange silence that lie around Santa Barbara. It was a ICN stronghold, the only major city along the western coast that they controlled. Believing it to be largely empty of soldiers, the union leader John Raley ordered the brigade to attack.

Initially fruitful, the fight went horribly wrong as the seemingly weak city turned a hive of ICN soldiers, who had spent the better part of two days boarding their windows and blocking the streets. They were heavily outnumbered and quickly became confused. Disorganized. Their only tank, an older model from the 1990s, was struck by a mine and incapacitated, the escort forced to retreat under fire as the capitalist fighters gunned down the drivers.

Returning to Oxnard to lick their wounds, the Andrew Jackson Brigade quickly realized that they were followed. The ICN recognized their weakness and spent a night testing their defenses. In the morning they attacked, but the socialists managed to repel them. Again they attacked earlier today, this time more effective. A few spent shells from an APC caused immense damage to their defensive positions and the brigade retreated further into the city, their ranks bolstered by the loyalist citizens.

Now they quickly looted the houses, pulling apart cabinets and hauling out couches and tables onto the streets in order to form a perimeter.

Working alongside them, Raley noticed their bravery and courage under pressure, but he also saw his men’s fear about the upcoming battle. Wishing to inspire them he began to sing, a familiar tactic in the past world where union movements would partake in song and cheer.

He started low, and soon the many streets began to join in song:

To arms, citizens,
Form your battalions,
Let's march, let's march!
Let an impure blood
Soak our fields!

The city would hold the night again, the union workers fighting bravely to keep what was theirs intact.

Mexico,
The Frontlines

In the Mexican side of the world, the conflict against the ICN forces had finally began to ebb after reinforcements from the LA’s socialist allies arrived. Both the 1st and 2nd International Brigades, the Alfonzo Remns Brigade and the Alessio Almanza Brigade respectively, proved to be capable fighters in the pitched combat against Warren’s forces. The line, that had rapidly collapsed on King’s army, was suddenly straightened and pushed back. Using what arsenal the defecting Army left behind, the former IF General was merciless in his retaliation.

Using tactics similar to Vanessian strategies in the Great War, King organized spearhead pushes with the tanks and armored vehicles, opening up gaps that the infantry rapidly moved to fill. Suddenly the ICN’s composed line was a series of pockets of resistance, and the socialists took advantage. Those that refused to surrender were quickly killed, the LA capturing thousands of prisoners of war and in some cases, eliminating entire units from the field of play.

While some would say King’s strategies were verging on suicidal, since their return to the north was only expanding the line and threatening the entire theater again, the former General was confident in their future. In the midst of the night at his command post he was delivered a letter from the Riverians. It eagerly promised assistance and dispatched an expert volunteer force familiar with the geography of Mexico. Relying on their arrival, the future 3rd International Brigade would take up the rear and perform vanguard operations before eventually replacing the eastern half of the offensive.

All was to King’s plan. In the west he received persistent reports from the California and Pueblo proletariats. They were divided not just along borders, but with their own organizational structure. While union leaders were charismatic, he conceded privately, they weren’t experienced in war. In what would become a major scheme of the Mexican campaign, King hoped to expand the front and unite the west under his command.

Imperial Installation FRE-04, Northern Freehland
Deep underground in Freehland's northern borderlands, a system of reinforced concrete tunnels and warehouses were bustling with activity. Men in grey military fatigues worked tirelessly, carrying boxes or driving forklifts full-up with ammunition, small arms, and explosives. Deeper within the tunnels in huge cavernous rooms, rows of tanks and APCs were slowly being maneuvered through the gargantuan doorways and surface tunnels. All in all, tens of billions of dollars worth of military hardware had been gathering dust underground for decades. Now, everything within was to be given to ICN forces.

Built in a series of caves in the early 1980's, FRE-04 was the principle stockpile of the Aeurian military in North America. The only larger cache was of course in Ecuador - Aeuria's permanent American colony. While even the base's commander had no idea why the Aeurians spent a fortune building FRE-04, he was happy enough to finally have work other than itemizing and signing release forms. On the surface, isolated from nearby communes and behind miles of chain-link fence, Major Thomas Yeman oversaw the large amounts of equipment and vehicles emerge from the tunnels.

"Have those ICN boys arrived yet?" the Major asked his adjutant, sipping a glass of ice water. "We can only bring all this to the border - they have to take it over."

A young lieutenant wiped the sweat from his face as he tapped away on his tablet. "I'll go find out, Sir."

"Christ sake, Jenkins. Go get a glass of water before you pass out." the Major ordered, observing the sweat stains coming through the man's fatigues.

The junior officer scurried off, leaving the shade of the tent to run across the base's grounds. Already there were a number of tanks and armored vehicles baking in the sun, crates of assault rifles and ammunition stacked on top of one another. The equipment wasn't top of the line - the tanks themselves as old as the base - but they would serve the purposes of the ICN.

Mexico Coastline

General Kirts stood in the coastal cities. He surveyed the beauty of socialism....of a united country.....of pride. The Xathuecian patrol fleet, one of the few Xrat-10 mark warships, had moved from the coasts of the FSU to GWR. With the socialist nations meeting, it seemed the Workers' Coalition had the power to win. But General Kirts needed to assure that. And so he, having technically been honorably discharged a week ago, got on a small raft from the leading ship and rowed to the shore. His arrival had been assured by the Coalition and when he arrived, he was greeted with food and the such. He had a war to lead now. Being driven to the frontlines, he would aid King. And he was more than just eye candy or for press. Having fought in several wars, he was more than experienced to win the war.

As he approached the lines, he was led to the camp and soon found himself outside King's tent. He was told that he was now ready for him. Pulling the flap up, he went in and met King.

"Well, hello. The mastermind of this war, huh?"

Great Warrior Rivers-Mexico Border

The train pulled up the station.

"Let's see if the contacts are here...."

A small hatch opened as a tall, lean man stepped out. He surveyed the area and soon found himself in front of Riverian border guards. He nodded to them as they beckoned him to follow. Soon they were in front of a good 50 Mexicans with seemingly worn out clothes and the like. But not anymore.

"Come here lads, load them up onto the trucks!"

His fluency in Spanish did not fail him as the men moved the uniforms into the waiting trucks. They hurried and worked fast. And then one of them gasped as he saw what was in the next set of cars.

"Holy! How?"

The man nodded and spoke quickly.

"These were moved here quickly from Xathuecia. We don't have a lot of tanks but these should suffice. They are made to be quick and move swiftly. Perfect for this battle especially here."

The men didn't unload them but called in reinforcements. Soon a few trained drivers arrived and the supply convoy was out. And this was only the beginning.

LA
Mexico,
The Frontlines

King was standing over a table presented with a map of Mexico and the southern Imperial Federation. Or… former Imperial Federation, he had to keep telling himself. The technology in many parts of the camp was rudimentary, a significant technology war between both the LA and ICN rendering a large portion of their satellite network useless and unable to register even the faintest of signals. So the General got out his old maps again, using local radio waves to organize troop movements and relying on more traditional means of expansion.

He looked up as the foreign man entered and spoke to him, interrupting his pondering over the troops’ positioning.

“Yes, I suppose. I imagine you are Kirts? General Kirts; I was informed you were arriving by the men.” He faked a smile, considerably still caught up in the planning effort and not in the mood for formalities. “Well, gather ‘round. This is the current state of things, although I imagine you were informed in advance before being shipped off. Our forces are pushing steadily in the north; we’re finding considerable ICN resistance but so far it’s been folding under our numbers. The International Brigades have proven to be rather useful in the fighting. The Riverians are still incoming, and will need to be organized first, but I intend to send them to Metsichee to fight.”

He wiped his brow, the warm Mexican sun radiating off the ground and even making the tent hot. King pointed down at the map, towards a circle in red near the Sonora Peninsula.

“Our men are advancing here now. I intend for them to retake the Salton before uniting with our pinned forces in southern Pueblo.”

The tent flap flew open as a red-eyed soldier practically jogged in. He was tired, hot and out of breath, but handed the General a report and saluted.

“Sir,” the soldier said, “There’s been issues with the western advance.”

“What’s happening?” He began to skim the report.

“The Blues. They… surprised our troops. Better weapons than we expected. Report says they had near a whole tank regiment in action.”

“Damn.”

He finished reading off the report, noting the casualties that the unit commanders had sent back to base. He crumbled the paper and tossed it into a trashcan, angrily looking at the map.

“This changes things. Until now the ICN’s defense was broken up. They were mainly concentrating forces in the east and north, but apparently not anymore. Damn.” He looked at the messenger, taking down a note for him to send. “Get this to a radio operator. Tell them to bypass what’s possible and form a defensive. We’ll need to run their tanks down.”

ICN
Richmond, Virginia

“You’re telling me we lost the salient?”

“That is correct Mr. Warren. They pincered the supply line all the way to the border with Transylvania before collapsing the rest.”

The businessman sighed, leaning on his hand as he listened to the operational report. Warren was being swamped with information from all over the country. They were risking supply routes in the north to the LA, the south was being carved into by the Patriots and now the southerners had almost taken Texas.

He rested his eyes back on the collection of people at the board table. Former officers of the IF, upper-members of the ICN, representatives from the smaller branches fighting across the nation. They were quickly being put into the same position the LA faced: fragmentation.

“At least tell me there’s some good news.”

“Uh… yes. Yes there is sir. We’ve started to receive supplies from the Alcasians and New English. Food and equipment. And we’re making progress against the Appalachian Communes.”

“The Appalachian Boys?” He said sarcastically. “How’s it going?”

“They are almost out of Virginia.” The officer responded.

“Good. We need to put those supplies to work. It is instrumental to the success of the ICN and our country that we continue to hold our supply lines in the north. If the west is divided, we stand to lose there quickly when our network of goods with New England collapses. We need to expand the Corridor, and the best way I can think of is pushing straight through Erie.”

The Riverian Executive Branch

To Whom It May Concern of the Leaders in True Vanesse;

Huzzah! We have won major victories and major losses, so my generals from the inside tell us back home, but the news on the front is not yet bleak, and we have opportunities to seize and fortunes to gamble. Consider my first wired message of one of spontaneity, that was my first lesson I wish to teach you and your leaders of the Revolution. The second the Revolution teaches us is organization of labor and capital, so we may overthrow the bonds which control us intelligently. These two things, spontaneity and organization, coincide together, and are vital to growing a socialist movement without class distinction. Lose one, lose the socialist movement entirely; that is why I teach you the second tenet today, if only to increase our advance.

A movement of the lower classes cannot be sustained when so few of us are led, and unable to perform our spontaneous action. That is why the leftist communes fail in the East, and the coastal Californian settlements fail in the West. They have no contact with one another but deluded and muddled means. As of this moment, hundreds of Riverian technicians, statisticians, and scientists come not just to burgeon your shuttered economy, but to fix and upgrade existing radio broadcast towers from local range, to continental range, and we can start to organize those who seem so far away from us now. In a matter of weeks, the Mexican movement will not only be able to produce its own weaponry and feed its own soldiers, but supply others with an expansive logistical supply chain that benefits all!

Also relevant to this discussion is the minority of socialists who live everywhere, not just the areas we have control over and aforementioned. When we set up these larger radio towers we will be able to, as a unit, attack enemy wavelengths and broadcast our message to those behind their lines, causing dissent and already existing socialist organizations and local leaders to support us when we arrive. The revolution rests in the palms of those who are industrious, take it from Yours Truly,

Richmond, Virginia
Jocard entered with a polite smile at the Secretary, "Bien obligé, belle."

He was directed to a surprisingly sparse office where the leader of the capitalist faction of the various states vying for control of Vanesse was seated. "Monsieur le... Président?" Jocard said inquisitively with a bow. He really wasn't sure what the title the man preferred and did not wish to offend. That wouldn't do for cordial relations once this conflict had ended.

Switching to English he continued, "As a representative of the Maurepas Government, I come here with a message from Le Conseil du Roi offering my country's official support in your struggle to maintain peace," he began, placing the letter with the official Seal of Maurepas on the desk in front of him.

Image

"I have also personally been tasked to inquire of any...other services you might require," Jocard continued, choosing his words carefully if any were eavesdropping on this conversation or if he was going to be rebuked. This part of his meeting was not endorsed by the Conseil du Roi or any other part of the Maurepas government. This was the reason events had been arranged that he be given a job in the Maurepas Government, and why forces behind the scenes had ensured he would get to deliver the message personally.

He casually scratched the side of his neck where the tattoo of a fleur-de-lis resided to accentuate his point. It was the symbol of the Guilds of New Orleans Crime Syndicate.

To the Leaders and Associates of the Leftist Alliance,

Congratulations are in order for your successes in the south, and with the people’s continued sacrifice and combined strength only more progress can come. You are on the path, with us as companions and equals, to bringing about a glorious revolution of the working class of Vanesse. A new world approaches closer with each victory in this crisis, where the people of the world will undo the powers that be and recreate the world in the image of a socialist utopia. Where all can be equal and work in unison, to progress not individuals or the elite, but instead benefit humanity.

Still the fight must continue and the proletariat of Vanesse secured in their goals. To this end, the FSU will promise further shipments of grain and food products to southern Mexico, and if in the event of a securing of the western coast, then to there as well. The working class can not fight on spirit alone, for our people produce in abundance and will part with what stock we have.

We will also begin shipments of what extra weaponry we have in our stockpiles too. We are not an industrialized nation, but armaments will be needed to succeed in this revolutionary crisis, and our spare arsenal will surely assist in this endeavour.

Lastly, with the assistance of the Riverians, volunteers from our working-class proletariat will increase in volume in order to help expedite the socialist cause and protect southern Vanesse from failing again. We will be unable to provide any more officers, as our ranks have already been depleted through decades of disuse and our military unprepared for such a conflict enmass.

Perhaps in the future, we will all look at this and find a solution that secures all of our futures.

To victory,

Chairwoman Cavazos

LA

The Worker’s Coalition had begun to see a tremendous increase in their speed, with the constant shipment of supplies from Xathuecia, the Great Warrior Rivers and the Federal Socialist Union combining into one consistent run into southern Mexico. Ignoring shipments of grain and military equipment alone, the Riverians brought invaluable resources through their direct border with the Vanessian territories. Beyond just able-bodies from both them and the FSU, the Riverians smuggled in officers educated in the art of war and radio technology. With the crippled state of the LA’s communications equipment in Mexico, in some cases just from the weather alone, the GWR enabled a significant service for the socialists: networking.

The hundreds of fractured communes in the west were surprised to suddenly pick up a new channel on their transmitters. What startled them more was the pro-Socialist English speakers on the other end. For once in the entire war, Pueblo and California could now quickly communicate with King’s forces, working to coordinate movements and attacks on ICN positions. Not only that, but it was a major boost to morale; most of the soldiers not even knowing the southern front had survived.

Another unintended effect from the Riverian communication arrays was the orderly usage of air forces once again in the southern front. They were heavily used in the beginning of the conflict, but rapidly King’s forces were unable to keep up reliable communications with their pilots. In some cases, delayed transmissions resulted in missed targets, or even worse, friendly fire.

Yet the most instrumental outcome of the Riverian assistance was not in the war directly, but instead distantly in the east.

Knowing that the ICN was gaining territory in southeastern Appalachia, the anarchist fighters there instead decided to press their luck with uniting with the north, unbeknownst to them, in a similar way with how the Salt Lake communes united with the midwest LA. Abandoning most of the Virginia land they had gained, the Appalachian allies succeeded in closing the corridor, effectively preventing supply runs from the ICN holdings in the northwest from ever directly reaching the east. The Appalachian representatives met with Sharpe and his delegates in Columbus, Erie, where they argued for some time over difficulties in consolidating the fronts. The Appalachian groups were mainly anarchist in origin, split among countless militia groups that relied on guerrilla means to persist in the war. Innately they found issue with the organization of Sharpe’s army, which was divided under union leaders and the few military officers that defected and happened to be in the north.

Their solution was brought in part from the new radios. Using a process of “leapfrogging”, the LA were able to send a radio signal that normally wouldn’t reach the east to a neighboring station; they would then carry the message forward at any cost, in some places even forced to pass through hostile territory, to the next numbers station. King, with the help of the Riverian officers present at the camp, managed to come to a compromise with both Sharpe and the Appalachian demands. The anarchist mountain boys would join forces with the Chippewa syndicalists and receive orders from their command, but on the field would behave without the leadership of the unionists. It was less-than-ideal, but for the moment functioned in providing a universal resistance against the ICN’s advance in the east.

The other major outcome of the Riverian assistance was in unlikely Des Moines, who had until this point been solidified under the ICN’s control with only a few grumbles from the citizenry. Making use of the broadcasts, the LA began a clandestine propaganda campaign that saw the city erupt into anger, then erupt in flames, and eventually erupt into a full-blown rebellion that united with the midwest socialists.

Still, General King’s plan stood. Solid communications across the country was tremendously useful, yes, but what was a necessity was uniting the fronts like in eastern Vanesse. He continued to order the forces forward at the cost of the Texan front stalling, instead circumnavigating the heavily-armed forces around the Freeh border in a hope to envelop them.

ICN

In the words of Warren, losing some was fine so long as the end was worth it. With this in mind, the ICN began to play for the long game in the civil war. The leader of the capitalist forces received notice that the Corridor was cut-off, and without a direct route to New England, would need to rely on their own produce and what came periodically through shipments. Instead, sensing a possible fallout from this, Warren ordered double the men to the Appalachian region. If they could defeat the socialists bulged in Erie, then they could open a new supply line and possibly solidify their gains again.

Where the ICN currently saw failure against the LA, they were unsurprisingly finding victory against the poorly-equipped Patriots of the south and the remaining federal forces scattered around the country. The hardliners tried to push for a rapid advance in the south, but were quickly bogged down by the better equipped ICN forces. They made no more progress in Heathland, and only began to lose land in staggering amounts in Texas and Muskogee. At this rate it would be only a matter of time before the southerner’s were forced to surrender.

Richmond, Virginia

“There’s no such thing as a united Vanesse yet, my friend, so I am simply a sir or mister to you.” Warren remarked, taking a moment to read over the paper that the representative had brought. He was tired from the evening of planning and talks, but any possibility of assistance in the war wouldn’t be amiss.

“Ah,” he reflected. It was a write-off on anything that he and his people could need in the fight. A sign of support that carried some weight. “I suppose you’re already aware of the necessities we need. Ammo, weapons, aide. Those sort of things.”

He watched the man silently, listening to his careful and disposed proposal of further assistance. It was an interesting way of offering.

“I would imagine you’re offering irreputable means? Perhaps in a better world I would not need to resort to such, but this far from a perfect place. The Patriots are proving to be quite problematic to us.” He said with a frown. He walked over to the end of the room, where the windows of his office overlooked the city. “Their location is rather inopportune and difficult for us to handle, especially with the Reds. We are slowly whittling them down, but such a large front naturally provides issues, no? Anything that you could do that would weaken their organization would be more than beneficial to us. The quicker they give, the quicker I can deal with winning the east.”

INS Forthright, Gulf of California
The flagship of Aeuria's First Fleet cut through the azure, coastal waters of the Gulf at full speed. With its accompanying cruisers, destroyers, and frigates, the nuclear-powered supercarrier was quickly approaching its destination. On board was the purpose of the fleet's advance into the gulf: 30 F-35 fighter jets, 45 F/A-18 Hornets, and two dozen attack helicopters to be operated by the Imperial Navy to help the ICN halt the LA's rapid northern advance and cripple supply lines, depots, and strongholds in LA-held Mexico.

While Mr. Warren rejected the Empire's offer of naval bombardment of the nation's west coast, Admiral Raimond de Paon was ordered by the High Command to immediately and unilaterally begin air strikes against the northern Mexican front and LA installations in Mexico proper. Whether or not Warren's ICN would condone what was about to happen, the Admiral had his orders: "Bomb and burn those filthy reds into nonexistence."

Watching the flight deck from the bridge, Admiral de Paon exhaled streams of smoke through his nose. Smoking a pipe, the aged officer and aristocrat struggled to hide the joy from his face. "You know boys, it's been too long since I've directed the glorious, fiery destruction of communists. Hell, last time was a purge on Java in the 90's. You'd think these stupid, red bastards would've learned by now. Humph! Nothin' a red understands other than napalm and carpet bombs." the elderly man said to no-one in particular, his bridge officers fussing over their radios and controls. Chewing on his pipe's mouthpiece, the Admiral brushed a blemish from his white uniform before giving the order.

Within minutes the flight deck was in the launch cycle - plane after plane being catapulted off its edge and into the air. Massive elevators hummed with effort as additional jets were moved topside. Pilots and crewmen alike scrambled on all decks of the behemoth in various emotional states. Some cackled wildly as they climbed into their cockpits, anxious to deliver their payloads while others solemnly performing final flight checks, hoping to hell they didn't forget anything. With such advanced aircraft, human life was secondary to the exorbitant cost of the F-35's. Teams of engineers and crewmen hurried through checklist after checklist before sending the jets topside for launch.

"This... this is going to be biblical. You ever read the bible, boys? Helluva good book that Old Testament." Admiral de Paon remarked as yet another jet shot into the sky.

Richmond, Virginia

"Consider it done, mon ami," Jocard replied with a smile, and nodding he turned to make his way out of the ICN leader's office. On his way out the door he offered a wink at the secretary, but his pace was brisk and he didn't have time to chat her up any. There was work to be done, preparations to be made. Mexico hadn't gone exactly the way the Guilds desired, but the fallout looked promising indeed.

When Jocard delivered the results back to New Orleans the wheels would be put in motion to direct both official arms production as well as the Guilds under the table trade into funneling their resources into the ICN's coffers. Jocard would also inform the right people of the new task they had been given by Mr. Warren.

Maurepas was now in this war in all but name...

Port Arthur, Texas
Several Days Later

A train barrels down at midnight across a stretch of tracks on the border of Maurepas and the formerly united Vanesse. The border in this area was muddled, with both sides meeting across the battlefield. It was also the only overland route in which the border of Maurepas met her ICN allies.

It had cars loaded with rifles, ammunition, various armaments such as grenades, etc., as well as what would probably be the most important part of the cargo since the leftists had split the ICN in two: MREs, or RRIs as they were known in Maurepas. Keeping an army fed was as necessary to keeping it fighting as force of arms. Perhaps moreso, thought the train’s conductor as his stomach rumbled and he opened a bag of crab-boil flavored potato chips popular in his home country.

It was just as he was about to pop the first one in his mouth that the conductor saw it. He’d taken his eyes off the tracks momentarily to grab the bag. It was an innocent mistake, one made by countless other conductors on countless other train lines. But it was a mistake that almost cost this convoy.

Chips flew through the space in the train’s cabin as the conductor yanked hard on the brakes, the screech nearly drowning out the train’s horn being pulled as hard as he could as he did so. A barrier had been placed across the tracks, on it the symbol of the Patriot Movement emblazoned with the Vanessian flag was hastily spray painted across the front. The train’s stop was so close that the conductor could practically smell the fumes.

As the smoke began to clear like vultures members of the Patriot Movement began to fan out across the train, one of which climbed up to the train cabin and tapped the window with his pistol.

“Nobody gotta get hurt,” the man said in a thick southern drawl as the conductor rolled down his window. “No, d’ami, thanks to you they do,” and almost as soon as the words left the conductor’s lips a wet smack signaled a spatter of blood across his face. The conductor crouched down as low as he could in the train’s cabin as the Mercenaries of the Guilds of New Orleans crime syndicate opened fire from their various locations throughout the train.

The ruffians of the Patriots’ militia were no match for the Assassins of the Guilds. In a swift moment the ambushers became the prey, and the shipment into Port Arthur continued unabated.

Atlanta, Georgia

Genard Cailloux breathed a deep sigh of contentment. His first action since Mexico. Genard smiled, he might be the deadliest man in the world, but he wasn’t the greatest downfall of man. Hubris, he thought, hubris is the greatest downfall of man, Genard silently self approved his rudimentary philosophy.

The Assassin’s Guild member’s target was Lewis Oscar Middleton, a man who had conducted an until now flawless military campaign considering the size and relative experience of his forces. Almost overnight in world affairs scale the territory held by the Patriot militias had nearly doubled in size. One might say they bit off more than they could chew with their recent struggles against the ICN, but it could scarcely be denied that they were a force to be reckoned with.

Unfortunately for them, reckoned with they would be. The Guilds had been tasked by their newfound allies with weakening the Patriot regime. Killers by trade, the Assassins wing of the Guilds of New Orleans Crime Syndicate had decided that the quickest way to weaken a snake was to cut off its head, and Genard was their finest shovel.

Now, as Genard sat in a third story room of a library overlooking one of the larger thoroughfares of Atlanta, his opportunity presented itself. Looking to celebrate their gains, as well as shore up morale, a motorcade was scheduled to roll through town. Nationalists preferred such displays of power and pageantry, and the Patriots were no exception. Figuring their newly conquered city was well away from the front due to their unparalleled success, Middleton rolled with minimal security.

Genard mentally checked off his steps in his mind as the first cars of the motorcade began to roll through. His tracks were covered, there would be no prints on the gun or any trace of his person left to track him when he would leave the high-powered sniper rifle behind. Slipping into the crowd he would slowly make his way out of the city into its suburbs where it linked with the Chattahoochee river, where he would then make his way down to the Gulf Coast. At the coast would be waiting some Maurepasan shrimpers who had been paid off to go off their usual route where they would retrieve the assassin and take him home to New Orleans.

Genard pictured the route fully in his mind briefly before purging it. It would be instinct to follow it, and instinct to follow through with this task. Vanessian and Patriot Flags heralded the arrival of his target, Middleton visible waving to the crowd, what Genard assumed to be family and friends sitting beside him. Exhale and as the breath escaped his lips Genard lined up his shot and gently squeezed the trigger. Before the shock would set in Genard dropped the rifle and fled the building.

The plan set in motion had come to fruition.

Kindley Air Force Base,
St. David's Island, Bermuda

"With the ICN's western holdings cut off from the east and by extension any land routes with New England a new course of action will be employed to keep them supplied and fighting until a new route is opened" stated an officer, pointing towards a map of the current situation in Vanesse.

"That's where we come in. We're going to exploit this open section of the eastern Atlantic coast and airdrop supplies as requested. Of course, the amount we can ship our friends on the mainland will be more limited unless you all want to swim there, however the Heads across the continent in Vancouver agree that this is our best option until the ICN makes hole through the LA's possessions and allows over-land transport to resume. Questions?" he said looking away from the screen and towards the silent meeting hall.

"Excellent. First planes should be in the air by zero-five hundred. Dismissed."
One day we'll rule the world, then you'll be sore-y, eh?

"Where's my staff, Colonel, they were supposed to be evacuated with me," the Ambassador began, disembarking the Alcasian Naval helicopter and onto the jurisdiction of the ICN Vanessian Navy. The Ambassador stared at the Vanessian Colonel, whose face looked a little unconcerned.

"They're on their way, trust me. You were HVT-1 for our mission up in Jefferson," the Colonel replied, his eyes scanning a piece of paper laden with small-print ink.

"You better hurry up those damned choppers, mate, Alcase needs their people back."

Patriots
Atlanta, Georgia

Standing out from the sunroof of his motorcade, the Patriot leader Oscar Middleton waved feebly to the small crowds that watched along the street. It was a pitiful turnout for the commander of the South; a man who ran his goals on the basis of collective contributions was now seeing a poor turnout. A few escorts walked along on the sidewalks, armed with rifles and disinterested eyes as they kept a lookout through the town. In all, it was a pitifully formal display.

The motorcade turned along a bend, headed north back to the center of town when disaster struck. From seemingly nowhere, and surprising the observation team that was watching the parade from a far rooftop, a shot rang out. In deafening silence Middleton, who was in the midst of smiling at a gleeful citizen taking his picture, began to slump down and fell against the side of the roof. His head poured with blood.

The sight sent a shock through the masses who began to scream and flee. The motorcade began to speed rapidly along the road, a few of the Patriot’s soldiers dangerously jumping onto the car and clinging to the sides of the roof as they tried to coax Middleton back inside the car.

Above the observers thought they had sight of the shooter and brazenly fired off a magazine each from their rifles, but came short and only peppered the concrete and windows of the office complex.

The bodyguard inside the car took Middleton’s pulse while another cradled his broken head in his arms. He was dead. The bullet had entered his skull and shattered the interior before exiting into the sidewalk, his final thoughts ebbing out in the form of blood on the leather.
