Greco-Turkish War (Democritus Only)

Postby The Turkish State » Wed Jul 13, 2016 12:23 am

A thread for the Conflict between the Turkish State and the NPC of Greece. After Cypriot militias attacking Turkish northern Cyprus were found to be linked to the Greek Government, war broke loose. War seems to be the only option. A part of the greater disturbances in the balkans....

Thrace

The Turkish Army laid a preparatory bombardment upon Greek positions. Heavy artillery was now in place and was being used accurately and often. Turkish fighters took to the sky to engage the Greek airforce, the Turkish planes being at the cutting edge of fighter development, heavily outclassing that of Greece, who would not be able to afford such things in recent times. Turkish armoured brigades equipped with Atlay MBTs began an advance across the Greek border, supported by five motorised infantry divisions armed with anti-armoured weapons and mobile SAM platforms.

Rhodes

An overwhelming Turkish force was deployed against Rhodes. The island was quite far from the rest of Greece and if the Greek airforce and Navy could be decisively destroyed here, the war would become much easier. The Turkish Navy engaged that of the Greece. Led by the amphibious assault Ship, TSS Izmir, as well as 4 cutting edge destroyers and 5 older ones, as well as accompanying frigates and 4 submarines, they would fight the Greeks for control of the sky and the ocean. Escorted by heavily armed missile boats, Turkish landing craft were under heavy Greek fire. With the aid of nearby airfields built during the tensions with Neo-Byzantine Greece, Turkish paratroopers were landed accurately behind Greek lines with GPS technology. Armed with RPGs and heavy Assault rifles, they would wreak havoc whilst Turkish troops made it to land.

The Inner depths of the Ankara government

The minister of Defence sat in his office. It's location was top secret, the decisions made untraceable. It was here, that often the fate of the nation was decided, right through from the war of independence to the Soviet-American war. Now another would be made. Turkish radar detected that a Greek force was being directed to Ayvalik, a inconsequential town that housed little war material, with only two patrol boats stationed. There were but only seven AA emplacements and one hastily constructed SAM. From the looks of the incoming Greek force, it would overwhelm the city. However, it was not the composition needed for an invasion force merely a raid.
"There is two things we could do." The minister of defence stated to many people who technically did not exist.
"We could hastily scramble a force from our attack on Lesbos to cover the town. Or we could create token resistance and allow Greece to ruin the town. This would turn international and public opinion strongly against Greece. A town with hardly any military emplacements within it, with a civilian population attacked and brutalised. It is a tough decision to make gentlemen, but an obvious one."

Turkish troops pushed further inland on Lesbos. Some 7500 had been landed now, supported from the air by the closeness of mainland Antatolia and TSS Ankara, as well as navally dominated by 6 destroyers and attack corvettes, the island seemed all but pacified.

Thrace

While not able to afford the cutting edge of fighters of today, their planes was still a threat. Only entering the economic downturn at the start of the early 2010s, much of their military was still in working order and if outclassed, it was only by a few years difference. The Dassault Mirages, while not the most advanced fighter, was still very much a threat to any turkish aircraft. The ground game was different though but still heavily defended. A Turkish invasion from Thrace was obvious so it was heavily defended. Mines, and men held the line at the invading force but sheer numbers would start to drive them down after awhile.

Rhodes Island

The island was too far to defend for Greece. So they made a sacrificial play. They put up minimal resistance against Turkish armies, while at the same time moving any of their naval force away. Yes they would loose Rhodes but at the same time prevent the Greek military from getting completely decimated.

Lesbos

The Turks that though Lesbos was pacified where very wrong indeed. The Greek military began to attack in earnest, a force of almost 20,000 men now garrisoned on the island. They fought back against the army that started moving inland, while the naval force assaulted their sea vessels. Again, the assumption was made that the Greek where technology inferior like most Balkan nations but it simply wasn't true. They had standard and well working arms and while not as numerous as the Turkish army, still where well trained and well equipped for a fight. If they would loose this war, they would take down as many as they could.

France has long been allied with Turkey, and consequently has been following developments in Greece with some interest. Seeing that the Turks have encountered difficulty at Lesbos, the French Armed Forces decided to intervene in the conflict. A squadron of Dassault Rafale aircraft from the French Air Base near Izmir, which was opened in November 2015, will provide air support for the Turkish army to help counter the Greek counteroffensive on Lesbos.

Politically however, France has been taking a different approach. Rather than voice support for the Turkish invasion the Sixth Republic has expressed their view that because the Greek military is putting up such a valiant fight in the face of overwhelming odds against the Turks, perhaps a peaceful resolution should be sought that will preserve Greek sovereignty.

The British Parliament has demanded that a peaceful resolution be in order, as the MP for Essex stated that "This is directly affecting our colonies in Cyprus" and the MP for Rajasthan has declared that "British intervention will be due if the fighting continues, and no ally will be chosen. It will be a fight for the Empire, not Greece nor Turkey".

Thrace

Turkish troops were chopped down as the nation gasped at the blood being spilt, an action that solidified anti-Greek sentiment. Anti-mine vehicles had to be heavily protected, making progress slow and bloody. 600,000 troops were being brought to bear now on this front. Turkey relied on force of numbers to break through in this front, Turkish honour had been insulted one too many times by Greece...

Rhodes

The Turkish army attempted to fight the Greeks decisively before they left, but the Greek rearguard proved too effective. The Army now solidified it's position in the islands, leaving a garrison and a naval base. Many troops were now free to be used against Lesbos...

Lesbos

The Turkish advance pressed on. Resistance was getting stiffer as they advanced inland, but the Greeks had their backs to the ocean. Heavy artillery has now brought in from Anatolia as well as re-inforcements. With these, Turkey hoped to pound the enemy into the sand. In order to avoid another Rhodes, Submarines (3) and two destroyers patrolled the far side of the islands. This would truly be one of the greatest wars in Turkish history.

The Political Front

The President addressed a conference in an unknown location in Anatolia. He looked to the camera and spoke.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, speak to you today on the behalf of the Turkish Government and the Turkish Armed forces. Many of you ask internationally, why is this war being fought? The answer, my friends, is for the stability of the Balkans. For decades, Greece has been Sabre rattled as the supposed 'New Byzantine Empire', making claims on Thrace and Izmir. They have made direct suggestions against Turkish sovereignty, made provocations against us, their failed invasion of Cyprus being one of them. We discover Cypriot militias attacking innocent Turks with links to the Greek government, we ask questions which are left unanswered, we declare war, and Turkey is treated internationally as if it is the aggressor. Our supposed DEUMDP ally of Britain claims to fight to protect colonies, colonies already safe due to the bloodshed of Turkish heroes on Cyprus. Their attempt for a peaceful solution, along with France, whilst noble, is impossible. Whilst the current government remains in Greece there can be no peace. Whilst the current government remains in Greece there can be no such longed for 'stability' in the Balkans. The truth is, the Greek people have been indoctrinated to fight for a corrupt, warmongering regime. The truth is that only way for this to be solved is through Greece's surrender to Turkey. We will guarantee that annexation will not take place, the Greek language and culture will be preserved, democracy will be restored to the creators of the concept. It is only then, that true stability will reign true. Thank you."

Thrace

Greek commanders would realize that the Turks were once again gaining momentum, and so order a partial withdrawal. Anti-tank rockets would target the mine clearing vehicles, while the Greek Air Force would resolve to one final attack upon Turkish ground forces. Civilians in the process of evacuating slow the retreat of Greek vehicles, while a new line of artillery is set up several miles away for a new frontline.

Lesbos

The Greeks had fought valiantly against the might of the invaders, however they could not be ordered to hold out until the inevitable conclusion. The men knew that the battle for Lesbos was lost, and now merely wanted to have a chance of escaping with their lives. The Greek divisional commander has sought to meet with his Turkish counterpart to discuss terms of surrender, and has proposed an immediate ceasefire to allow these discussion to take place.

Thrace

In seeing the withdrawal of Greek forces, the Turkish command seeked to exploit the situation. By now, paths had been cleared through the mine fields as the first and second shock divisions harried at the withdrawing Greeks, seeking an opening to be exploited in the line. The Greeks were not to be allowed to form a defensive perimeter again. In the air, The Turkish airforce engaged in Dog Fights with the Greeks, trying to use advantage of technology and numbers. When possible, the airforce would harry greek ground forces. The third armoured division, equipped with modern Altay II tanks and Altay-GCs (SPGs) was to puncture a hole between two Greek divisions...

Lesbos

The ceasefire was honoured between Greece and Turkey. A meeting place was to be held between the two commanders in Mytilene. There, in the island's wartorn capital, were the terms for surrender made.
-The greeks must turn their equipment to Turkey
-There was to be no sabotage of airfields
-The troops must submit themselves to Turkish authority. They would transported to Anatolia and held in humane conditions until the cessation of war

Rhodes

The island of Rhodes was now a major staging area for the war. Airfields were stocked. Supply depots were constructed. AA implants in place. Two divisions were stationed on the Island now. Something major was planned.

Empire effectively declares war on Greece

Today the New Prussian Empire declared war on Greece, the Kaiser ordered the 1st Paratrooping Division and the 2nd Mechinized Infantry along with 50 Eurofighter Typhoons, 30 Panavia Tornados and 40 UI-51v2s to the province of Ipiros ditiki makedonia(why the long name Greeks? XD) their main goal is to help the Turks out in the campaign, hopefully with Prussian help this campaign will be swift.

OOC: I'm steeping in while NMF is busy for the NPC Controller.

Thrace

The Greek side took a lot of damage as they retreated with the Turks in pursuit. Morale was running dangerously low with several troops conceding and escaping the war scene, surrendering to the Turkish army or turning back and abandoning the military. Within the concrete rubble of crumbled buildings, the Anti-tank guns were semi secure, shooting away. Greek jets would attempt to lead the Turkish jets closer to the AA guns, giving support to the diminishing airforce. The aircraft would continue to shoot back at their counterparts. The army couldn't retreat further without allowing the Turks to march to far into Greek soil, proving to be the last blockade against the enemy. Once the Greek military is defeated here it will be a turning point in the war.

Lesbos

The acting general of the Greeks in Lesbos would be sure to accept the Turkish peaceful solution. However under his ranks, surrender was not an option, surrender to the Turks would be cowardice and betrayal to Greece itself. Although it was only a hand full of soldiers who thought that way, they had enough numbers, 70 to 80 serivemen, to cause strife. As soon as the Turkish aircraft and weaponary inhabited the central Mytilene International Airport, the armed men stormed the area, shooting on sight. Depending on what was there, weapons, explosives would be scavenged and anything that couldn't be hauled back away was to be damaged, even the air craft. Most jets would only have punctured tires, some with dirt and rock scattered into the fuel tanks (which would require the fuel tank to be replaced). Once all the vandalising finished they would try and make a quick escape with their extra gadgets, running into urban areas.

Ipiros Ditiki Makedonia

Anti-aircraft batteries were previously positioned in the highly population dense province of Ipiros Ditiki, for a the annexation of it would be the catalyst to a Greco surrender. The AA guns would fire at planes transporting the paratroopers and fire at the other assortment of Prussian aircraft. Any paratroopers who successfully made it out of the planes would be targeted by machine guns. Evacuating the civilian populace from harm, the Greek military would leave mines on important road infrastructure to slow down the mechanised infantry as soldiers took advantage of their idle position, armour piercing shells and machine guns were enabled to strike down the foe.

Ipiros Ditiki Makedonia

The Prussian Army has decided that their best rought for the campaign is to use the Mechinized Infantry and low-radar UI-51s to march to the AA guns and take them out so that the para-units can provide support. However the clock will be ticking for the Mech. Infantry, and if they don't succeed a lot of para-units and aircraft will be lost.

Thrace

Turkish Troops pressed the advantage in Thrace, harrying retreating Greeks, capturing Greek equipment when possible. Soon, much to the commanding general's disgust, but the high command's pleasure, the Greek line was reformed just 150 km from Thessalonki. Turkey would still launch probing attacks at this line, but soon three divisions were withdrawn...

Lesbos

In Lesbos, Turkish troops were outraged. Why did they not accept peace? Couldn't they see what they were doing would only harm their country further? After the raids on the airport, martial law was declared, with a large occupation force patrolling the streets. Several collaborators told the identity of resisting troops and their whereabouts, and soon arrests were going made. Executions would not take place.

Thrace

It would be too costly to pull back a second time and too costly to loose the second most populated city in all of Greece. Thessalonki couldn't be lost in the eyes of the military generals, the city was being transformed into a military blockade, equipment being hurried over in the inevitable action of attack. Surprisingly, the residents were not evacuated from the scene, as the Turks did with the Greeks on the Thrace front, many average men and women in Thessalonki were enlisting. It would be the outnumbered game. On the battle front the AA guns and anti-tank guns continued their work, the Greek army fought on, firing rocket launchers at decent gatherings of the Turkish armed forces and vechiles. 20 Apache attack helicopters finally arrived to the battle, targeting Turk military encampments and supplies, ripping their fire into the soldiers on foot too. This would prove to hold the battle on for much longer, brining much blood shed to both belligerents.

Lesbos

The Turkish crackdown proved successful, roughly half of the rebellious troops were captured and arrested, leaving 40 or so soldiers still on the run. In the midst of the night, a couple of men would sneak back onto the recaptured airfield, planted an explosive, running for cover and setting it off. The runway would have a serious dint in it and would be a great nuisance to the Turk commanders. Most of the fleeing Greeks re-organised again, the attack was sent to the main Turkish military encampment in Lesbos. They stormed the area, shooting bullets in to their opposition through the use of machine guns and other standard rifle weapons. Grenades were thrown at vechiles and the loot to be plundered, this whole mission was to work just due to the fact that it was spontaneous. The Greeks fought on, scanning the surroundings, in hunt for the Turkish commander. If seen, he would be captured, but if he resisted, shot. Across Lesbos, from rogue servicemen, lone wolf attacks were made on the Turkish military scattered all over the island, mainly the ones policing due to martial law. This has all inspired rebellious thought with some Greek citizens, and stamping it out would be a trouble in itself.

Ipiros Ditiki Makedonia

A row of Greek soldiers were protecting the AA guns from any kind of assault. The Prussians marched ahead, many armoured vechiles would unfortunately run into the sea of mines around the streets. Already giving the Greek side an advantage, machine gunners would release their loads on the unpredicting troops, having higher mounted positions in building and also being familiar to the environment. Proper amour-piercing shells were shot at the remaining armoured vechiles, the Prussian ground forces would be in a scramble. Few AA guns and portable rocket launchers aimed at the low flying aircraft before they could come any closer to the batteries. The rest of the AA guns were still creating havoc in the sky for the German enemy, still, machine guns shot at paratroopers who flew out. This could easily go down in the books as a total Prussian military blunder.

Ipiros Ditiki Makedonia

The Prussian command realized that if they continued they would surely be defeated, their new strategy would be to escape to the mautains and set up multiple camps with the Mechinized infantry in the valley, and the surviving first wave of para-units up higher sniping possible Greek infantry. During night time the rest of the para-units would use the cover of darkness to drop troops, and during the daytime they would set up a full circle line so the Greek attack from all sides could be meet with force.

Ipiros Ditiki Makedonia

The Prussian divisions turned back and scurried to the nearest mountainous terrain, which was located close to the Greek-Albanian border. While they were retreating the Greek front shot all available weapons at them as pulled back, they would also trigger more mines planted in the streets, the Prussian side was going to be serverly crippled, if not worse. AA guns fired at the remaining aircraft. During the day, all paratroopers that jumped out would be fired at immediately by machine guns and sniper rifles, and during the night, appropriate night-googles were used to shot at them too. This would prevent any reinforcements or supplies coming from the already under fire, para units. A bombing run was made by jets, releasing their payload at the remaining Prussian soldiers. Assuming that the Prussians stuck on the mountain do not have the proper weaponary to fire down jets; the Greek side would win.

With the French political leadership deciding that the final war in the Balkans must be ended as soon as possible, Sixth Republic forces have begun an amphibious assault on the Peloponnese Peninsula. Missile Submarines based at the French military garrison in Izmir open fire with ballistic missiles, while Air Force Dassault Mirage 2000s also strike from the French air base in Turkey. The Nimitz-class super carrier 'New Republic', which was gifted to the Mediterranean Fleet of the French Navy by the United Republics in 2015, begins to deploy Dassault Rafale M aircraft to secure air superiority over the landing zones. Simultaneously, the Fleet's two Mistral-class assault ships launch Eurocopters and NH90s to quickly transport troops to the shore, and provide fire support for EDA-R craft as they make their way to the landing zone. The rest of the fleet provides ASW and SAM protection for the landing force and aircraft carriers, while also contributing to a coastal bombardment. It is also hoped that the opening of a third front will force the Greek government to the negotiating table, and act as a way to speed up the Turkish advance into the country and ease the pressure on the Prussian forces.

The Prussian command at this point new they couldn't g on the offensive, instead they decided to retreat closer to the Greco-SSS border where the final 10,000 para-units where already grounded (instead of paratrooping in) they would also rally to the newly activated 8th Infantry to create a line 5-10 miles inside the Greco border. This way they are SAM protected and their aircraft can finally give support.

Peloponnese Peninsula

The area would be quickly evacuated and the army braced for a massive attack from the French. The navy couldn't do much under the heavy fire, but would target sea vessels, especially the New Republic. While on land, the Greek army pulled back and allowed the French into the urban areas where they'd have machine guns set up to fire upon the enemies. AA guns were to shoot down anything in the sky and restore Greek air superiority, despite the fact the airspace is swarmed with the French. Individual hand held SAM devices defended the AA guns, with some SAMs being utilised on the front line to combat the significant advantage of having support from the air too. The Greek government was on the edge of surrender, if the French army takes the Peloponnese Peninsula, it would spell game over. It would most likely seek a peaceful ending such as a cease-fire or peace treaty, and they would make it very clear that an annexation was totally off the board.

Ipiros Ditiki Makedonia

The Greek army wanted to finally finish off the Prussian forces. SAMs were launched into the Prussian ranks and then at the remaining aircraft their side had left. This would cause havoc as machine guns would rip into the infantry and snipers would single out the individual troops with hand held SAM devices. Greek fighter jets came head to head with their Prussian counterparts, and were probably going to win the day because the Greek aircraft were in bigger numbers. Bombers begun to attack military encampments and large gatherings of Prussian soldiers. As a final hurrah, Greek infantry assaulted the already damaged German front, to finally win the day.

The NAF has mobilized its fleet in Iberia, taking with them their Mediterranean fleet, lead by their Super Carrier 'Overbeck'. As has whatever naval and marine forces the HDUHA has in Algeria. The fleets was deployed, and sent to Ipeiros. The NAF Navy was expecting resistance. The NAF's anti-submarine frigates were at the ready to open fire, 158C-AGM Cruise Missiles were at the ready, MAHEM anti-naval guns were at the ready, and Submarines were at the ready as well. If the NAF got close to an island, they would immediately send in their stealth bombers to search and destroy coastal defenses and SAM's. Following that, Stealth Air Superiority fighters such as the F-44 and the UI-51V4 would be deployed to eliminate any enemy aircraft taking the skies. American Marines would be deployed to quickly secure the islands around Ipeiros specifically. In between that, the Naval and marine forces of the HDUHA was sent to attack Pargo, with the NAF air forces and some Special-Forces groups have been sent to help the HDUHA secure said port. The attack forces sent to Pargo would be doing similar things. A few B-2 stealth bombers and UI-51V4 Air superiority fighters were sent to assist the Prussian forces, and tell them to quickly attempt to retreat to Pargo.

The Turkish Troops began a preliminary bombardment once again, this time sensing the end was near. A general offensive was once again called, with the Turkish airforce taking to the air once more.

However, Turkey had one more surprise up its sleeve. With the front distracted further away from Thessaloniki, Turkish mine clearers worked hard in the Aegean, as destroyers opened up a bombardment on the rear of the Greek Army...

The New Republic's fleet defenses are some of the best in the French Navy, with many being American designs adapted by France. Various SAMs, chaff, decoy, and jamming devices provide cover against sea-skimming missiles, air to surface missiles, and torpedoes. The rest of the fleet would engage any surface craft the Greeks have, and also use ASW sonar, attack submarines, and helicopters to hunt for Greek submarines.

French Rafales open fire with MBDA Apache missiles against enemy air defenses, spreading cluster bombs as they impact to cause extra damage to those with hand-held SAMs in the nearby areas. Once their Apaches have been used, they return for another attack using SCALP EG cruise missiles. The Rafales would take casualties by aggressively attacking such strong AA defenses, however the Rafales are flown by skilled pilots in agile modern aircraft. For many of the pilots, it was also not their first time facing SAMs in real combat - many of them had fought in Libya or against the Persian Gulf Union. They deploy flares, chaff, and try to maneuver in a way that the SAMs lose track of them. The French Fleet also tries to jam Greek Radar for many miles around the Peloponnese Peninsula.

The French fleet commanders were relieved when the first landings in Peloponnese Peninsula were successful - the first day is always the riskiest in any amphibious attack. Now with most of the invasion force ashore, the troops begin to push forward into enemy territory. Upon encountering enemy machine-gun strong points in urban areas, French Leclercs are called in to blast them to pieces for the advancing infantry. Combat engineers would help move debris and search for any possible IEDs/mines as the armored units move forward. The French Air Force Dassault Mirage 2000s act as close air support for French ground forces as required.

Unable to cope with incoming soldiers from many different nations, all beginning to encroach of the capital of Athens. Whether that be the overwhelming French forces attack on the Peloponnese Peninsula, the Turkish bombardment of the second most populated city, Thessalonki, to Prussians and NAF forces, the Greek side was losing for sure. After a mass surrender by the generals in Thessalonki and the Peloponnese Peninsula, the government of Greece has officially conceded. An army wide cease-fire is now in place as each and every soldier has dropped their weapons, the government has requested all belligerent nations in this war to attend a peace meeting in Athens to finally resolve the last conflict in the Balklans.

The French Mediterranean Fleet was visible from many of the Greek islands, with the the large New Republic and it's escort ships dominating the coastline near the landing zones. It had been a day since the ceasefire had begun, and the fleet was at a standstill. The deck of the French Super Carrier had remained quiet since then, with only the occasional air patrol and drone flight to keep French commanders updated on the situation, and a few ASW aircraft continuing to maintain protection of the fleet. Suddenly, four French Rafale aircraft launched from the carrier, and escorted two French Eurocopters as they began to travel towards Athens. The French negotiators were on their way to the defeated nation's capital. As they flew over the Peloponnese Peninsula, many of the helicopter's passengers looked out nervously as they crossed Greek lines. Although the fighting had stopped, French troops continued to occupy much of the region with the Greeks still holding the rest. If there was even one Greek in their territory with a handheld SAM launcher, which was very possible, and that Greek wanted to take advantage of the low-flying French aircraft, there was little the Rafales could do before he could fire at least one shot at the helicopters. Luckily, it appeared that the Greeks were honoring their ceasefire agreement. Upon arrival in Athens, the two Eurocopters landed while the Rafales turned back to the sea - they would return when the French delegation wished to leave. As the first helicopter powered down, General Renard Bordeaux of the French Army stepped out along with his advisers, while elite troops of the French Special Forces Regiment 'Napoleon' emerged from the second helicopter to act as their protective detail. Although the Greeks had capitulated, France was not taking any chances. Known only to the General and his deputy, a NEURON stealth drone also flew over the city at high altitude, watching while hidden to make sure that the operation went smoothly. The Frenchmen entered the conference, and took their seats. France was ready to discuss terms of peace.
