In Europe and the Middle East... superpowers vie for control of the world and divide it for their own pleasure. Technological innovation in Britain has led to an industrial revolution the likes of never seen before as superpowers race to produce consumer, military, and agricultural goods. In the seat of London the British Empire watches over its wealthy colonies around the globe and takes its position as the world leader, but who is to say this position isn't up for grabs by the numerous other superpowers in Europe? In competition with the British, the French also hold a vast global empire from the seat of Paris, proudly boasting the rich colony of Algeria. The recently united German and Italian states upset the balance of Europe and the world as these new superpowers boast new, powerful militaries that didn't exist pre-unification. The Russian Empire faces problems with industrialization and modernization, but remains a sleeping giant from the seat of Moscow. The great Austro-Hungarian Empire faces problems with civil unrest, but once solved could re-enter into the world of international politics and perhaps colonization. The once mighty Spanish Empire is but a shadow of its former self, but perhaps new leadership and industrial ideals will spearhead the Spanish into a second age of innovation? The Ottoman Empire watches the affairs of Europe from their seat of Istanbul, perhaps hoping a major war will see opportunity to cure the sickness faced by the Ottomans in recent years. In this age of innovation comes military progress in the likes the world has never seen, and political tensions leaves the European continent a melting pot waiting to explode into a possible global conflict.
In the Americas... the relatively infant nation of the United States makes progress unmatched by any other superpower and lays a foundation that could possibly make the coming age one led by American politics and ideals. The United States from their seat in Washington District of Columbia has jurisdiction of the largest Democracy in the world and will surely see to spread the engine that is American Democracy, but in the face of rising European conflict what will the United States' place be in the world when all is said and done? With the end of the Spanish-American War in 1898, tensions seem to have lessened between the Spanish Empire and American Republic, but the fact remains that the Spanish Empire is but a shadow of what it once was, will the Spanish see to restore their position of control over Latin America and attempt to retake their lost Cuban possession? In Latin and South America lies a time of unrest and rebirth, as their Spanish and Portuguese masters have been wrestled from them in the previous years, and with the absolute failure that was Gran Columbia, what will be the fate of the new nations of Brazil, Mexico, Chile, and Peru? America has potential, but at the moment that is all it has. Will the coming age truly be an American one? Or will the European powers remain in the seat of power they have been in since the age of Exploration?
In Africa... the once mighty African kingdoms are now in majesty to European rulers, whose recent Scramble for Africa has left almost the entirety of the continent in its control. In the remains of one of the oldest civilizations in the world lies the mighty British colony of Egypt. The recently constructed Suez canal under British rule controls the economy of European and Asian trade and provides its Empire a generous income. Africa is not an entirely well of situation for the British however, as the raging Boer War reaches its peak it looks as if South Africa may see a transition to become an independent Dutch Republic. The French hold domain over much of West Africa and from it dominate the Salt and Gold trade in the region and across the world. Ethiopia has secured its temporary independence from the Italians as it has defended itself up into this point but the rise of nationalism in Italy might call for another invasion attempt. The small nation of Liberia has been secured independence by the United States as its inhabitants are made up of former American slaves. Africa can either be a jewel of wealth for the Europeans, or it can lead to the demise of Empires as a control over the economy of the region could spark European conflict.
In Asia... the rising sun of Meiji Japan has wrestled off the imperialist attempts of Europe and the United States and has opened its borders to industrialization and enlightenment. This new industrial nation may see fit to complete imperialist ambitions of its own as it lays its ambitions over Korea, the Philippines, and maybe perhaps China. In China the Qing Dynasty is faced with a rebellion the likes the world has never seen before as the Boxer Rebellion rages in its attempt to relinquish the European control over the Chinese economy. The Qing Dynasty looks to be at a loss as over fifty thousand people have already met their fate in the rebellion, but as the rebellion progresses into its later stages, perhaps European and American intervention will save the Qing Dynasty from the prying hands of its own people? In the Crown Jewel of the British Empire, India, the British Raj government holds a steady control over its people, but with recent rebellions and unrest the Indian people may demand their independence, British response may vary. The French have recently fought over its control of Indochina from the Siamese, and previous struggles may lead to a complete French invasion of the Siamese Kingdom. The trade haven that is Indonesia remains in the hands of the Dutch and looks to remain so for the coming time, but with the increase in European conflict this can definitely change. Like America Asia is in a time of progress, but with the world catastrophe that is the Boxer Rebellion who is to say it will remain so.
Things to Mention (Rules):
I. This is not a roleplay as the likes of of before. This Roleplay is based on realism and gameplay. Our nations do not exist, but the player will be taking up the role of one of the many nations of the period and use statistics according to that nation.
II. Technology will not work as it has in the past. Technological progress in the field of military will be based on what logically makes sense without god modding. When in doubt keep to the technologies your nation used during this time period in real life unless Roleplayed realistically to gain progress or an invention of something else. Nations with no technological trees such as Ireland and China will use the technologies of the nearest technology tree, Ireland being the UK and China being Japan.
III. Also involving technology, DO NOT GOD MOD. As mentioned before you should try to stick to what is true for your nation, but if you want to Roleplay progress or inventing another nation's technology it must be made IN ROLEPLAY, and when in doubt the nation who would have gotten the technology anyways will get the technology. Your own inventions ARE ALLOWED, but you must keep in mind the current state of your nation's technological programs and such.
IV. PUT BANNERS IN YOUR POSTS. ALWAYS include the name of your nation in the title of the posts you make, for example a player playing as the United States would have "The United States of America - ________________" as its title and such.
V. Absolutely NO posts should be made without effort. This Roleplay will require all of us to try our best to Roleplay correctly and provide details sufficient to Roleplaying. An absolute minimum for posting is five lines of details, founding posts should be much longer.
VI. NO GOD MODDING - God Modding will not be tolerated in any since. Invading a nation will require several posts, response from the NPCs, and CASUALTIES FROM BOTH SIDES.
VII. Populations start at what they were in 1900 and progress 1 million per country and colonial region each year. We will deduct population according to how many die in wars and such.
VIII. Stop here and tag Helensted in an RMB post thanking him for creating this Roleplay. This is not only a test to make sure you have read all of the introduction, but will also provide him with a false SENSE of pride in his creation. You're not done yet, also shoot him a telegram that reads "read it."
IX. In a war both parties will have opportunity to retaliate to the other's moves, no one sided wars from the result of the spammed posts of an individual.
X. Every day is a season. Years will last four days. With the start of the Roleplay it is January of 1900, Winter.
XI. Roleplay Councillors and Helensted (the creator of this RP) will be in charge of a new feature called "Current Events Posts," these posts will show the actions of NPC nations and other factors not regulated in the Roleplay before. When in doubt let Helensted do the work with these.
XII. Have fun or else. (Report to Helensted if you want any more features added to the Roleplay).
