Protesters shot and killed in Jolthig!

Soldiers of the 33rd Regiment patrolling Main Street in Lafida, Jolthig.

LAFIDA - A group of progressive, communist, socialist, and social democratic protesters were shot and killed today by the Armed Forces of the Federative State of Jolthig today at 9:00 A.M. Jolthig Time in Lafida, Jolthig.

The planned protest of college students began early this morning at around 4 A.M. JT. Soon, 600 protesters filled the Main Street of Lafida, the capital of Jolthig, to protest the fascist regime of Supreme Leader James Mentiani.

At 5 A.M., the Supreme Leader authorized the Armed Forces of the Federative State to crack down on the protesters and an hour later, 1,100 troops and 20 tanks filled the Main Street of Lafida and they began demanding the surrender of protesters. When a group of radicals began throwing Molotov cocktails at the soldiers, the army immediately fired upon the protesters, killing 30 and injuring 130 more. The rest of the protesters retreated and martial law was declared for Lafida.

Currently, the remaining protesters are being hunt down by the military to be arrested for treason against the state. The Supreme Leader has yet to release a statement on the protests. Stay tuned for more headlines from Jolthig!

It is with great dispare that I think of the lives lost at the Jolthig protest. The government and people of South Afrikaan send out deepest condolences to those that have lost their lives or been hurt and their families.

The right to assemble is one that must be upheld in a truly free society. It is clear that the Jolthig government has violated that sacred contact with it's people. On behalf of Her Imperial Majesty's government, I without reservation condem the actions of the Jolting government and demand that further action against the protester immediately end.

Instead, your people will be unhappy and more protests will start across the nation. We heavily condemn this action and we think people worldwide should have rights to protest. We know,that those measures are tough, but you are just underestimating pissed off folk. Before the revolution, our old government had similar surveillance, very heavily armed police, agents everywhere, and oppressive laws. But it didn't save them, just made that rebellion longer and harder. So it's really better to make peace sometimes and stop that "witch hunting". And even without a revolution, some countries can impose a heckload of sanctions, condemns, tourism discourages and other nasty things that will hurt the economy, which must be in a good shape to keep all those cops on posts.

300 protesters arrested!

Jolthigian police forces breaking into a home of a suspected protester

LAFIDA - The majority of the remaining protesters have been arrested following surveillance measures taken by the Jolthigian Government. From May 19th to May 24th, Jolthigian Police and Military Forces broke into the homes of each individual suspected of being apart of the protest and violence. And a total of 300 protesters were arrested and detained at the Federative Prison in Lafida.

When the incident finally caught a researcher’s attention, the original Jolthigian news article and related information got compiled into a file and sent upstairs to the Monavian Foreign Relations Council, a panel of experts who provide advice to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and his deputy. The panel quietly voted to recommend that the Minister write a condolence letter and otherwise follow a “wait-and-see” policy towards the matter for the next few days. When lunchtime finally arrived and the panel adjourned for the day, an intern came by to take their report to the office of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Augustus Borozan.

“Excuse me, Minister,” the new intern sheepishly cut in after knocking on Borozan’s door.

“You have something for me?” Borozan asked, noting the folder clutched under the intern’s arm.

“Yes. The Foreign Relations Council had me pick up a folder from them and they want you to look at it.”

“Fine. Just leave it on my desk,” Borozan instructed.

“As you wish,” the intern responded as he deposited the folder in Borozan’s inbox and departed the room.

The Deputy Minister spent a few minutes reading through the Jolthigian press release and the recommendations that his advisers had made based upon their research into the incident. He then pulled up a copy of a condolence letter he had written a while earlier and used it as a starting point for drafting a letter to the Supreme Leader of Jolthig. Since he could not find an official Jolthigian manual of style online, he opted to address the leader as formally as possible and avoided injecting any political themes since he could not predict how the fallout from the shooting might settle in the days ahead. Twenty minutes later, he summoned a courier to his office to pick up the finished document and send it on its way.

"Your Excellency the Premier, what actions will the government take against the massacre in Jolthig?" asked a MP from the back row.

"We have already issued a travel advisory, warning our citizens..." the Premier began.

"That's all! What about the oppressed Jolthig people?" Shouted another MP, breaking etiquette as he interrupted the Premier. The government was shocked and the Premier looked to the Speaker to take control as the opposition needed and banged the floor with their chairs. The situation descended as the Premier began to demand punishments for his opponents and his supporters shouted behind him.

Finally the Speaker regained control, and ended the session. As he walked out Premier Kater turned to the MPs near him. "I want the strongest possible censure on that backbench rascal. And Peter, draw up sanctions against Jolthig. Hopefully we can avoid implementing them, but popular opinion may demand it."
