March 16th, 1940, Darkmount, Ascoobis 05:30

It was before sunrise and the Emperor was already hard at work. In his mansion, about twenty kilometers from the city's outskirts and one from the Air Force's local airfield, Emperor Jimenez was currently drawing up plans for an Ascoobian coastal defense of the Mainland. As it is expected that the numerically superior Dragomerian Navy would be able to lay siege to the Ascoobian Pacific territories and severly strain the capabilities of the Ascoobian Navy.

Strategist Leroy Cruz was explaining the coastal defense strategy with the Emperor.

"You wish to build pillboxes down our coastlines with AA and Artillery. Concentrated in major cities? Milord, you realize that there isn't enough cement in our inventories to build the defenses that you ask for and the complete uprooting of our industry eastward?"

The Emperor responded. "Focus on these defenses. Canada has offered to replace our heavy industry and produce armored units and aircraft for us."

"What kinds?"

"According to our war department, we will be asking for the mass production of the Panzer III, Panzer IV, and Tiger tanks. In aircraft, we will be asking for the Bf 109, He 100, Fw 200, Do 217, and Ju 88. Factories in Houston, Austin, Kalis, and Dallas are already deep in orders. Now let's get back on topic. On that new Battleship, when will we be expecting a complete unit?...."

March 16, 1940, Decagon, Ascoobis 06:00

It's six in the morning and Major William Lennox II's office is already flooded with pandemonium as Military police are swarm to telephones in an attempt to find the arsonists that lit fire to much of the nearby Navy base's ammunition stores. The Rotary-Dial Telephone on Lennox's desk rang. He answered with a degree of snappishness in his voice.

"Hello?!......Mr. Mendez.........The guards awoke? What did they say?.....Two Asian gentlemen. That's not too much to go on, but this has to be the work of the ICPS. The Emperor must be informed. But with the number of Asians in this city...Wait, there's more?.....Grappling Hooks found on the side of a building in the compound....Fingerprints?.....Then let's go and pay Mister Rong and Hang a little visit......What do you mean 'no'? We have the suspects right where we want them.....You can't do that. That area is too densely populated."

Mr. Mendez's words were clearly heard.

"We've already received world on what happened in Seattle. Now order that Ju 87 strike or we'll both have hell to pay. Orders are coming from the very top. And that's without the Jericho Siren."

March 16, 1940 Hawaii, Ascoobis, 12:00 Hawaiian-Aleutian time

With the news of a the attack on Wake Island, Admiral Nimitz has been quick to accelerate Ascoobian installment of defenses and has had crews working around the clock. From Hemmbalken below the waves near the beaches to trap landing craft to Naval mines placed systematically around the islands, careful to avoid routes taken by vessels returning and leaving the islands. Czech Hedgehogs have been ordered to be placed on many of the islands' key roads. Caltrops are placed on the beaches, covered in sand. In order to impede enemy troops. Without the concrete to create more then the already 30 pillboxes and machine-gun nests spread throughout the islands, Nimitz has been forced to build haphazard defensive fighting positions for artillery on Mauna Kea from dynamite explosions. There is where long-range artillery, Ant-aircraft guns, and a major command post will be housed at it's very peak. Fuel depots are to be emptied for fear of an air attack. Finally, additional Submarine nets are to be placed on the entrance to Pearl Harbor. The Ascoobian Fleet at Pearl Harbor remains ever vigilant.
"As soon as men decide that all means are permitted to fight an evil, then their good becomes indistinguishable from the evil that they set out to destroy."

Bremerton Naval Station, Washington, March 17, 1940

Mining of Puget Sound commences. Small channels known to be accessible to submarines and small warships have submarine nets as well as mines placed to avoid any usage of the waterways. All of which are mapped and recorded for location after the war. Fort Casey, Flager, and Warden all proceed with the up-gunning of their emplacements. The 16-in/45 caliber guns are being installed in concert bunkers with reinforced steel for added protection and painted in camouflage for protection. Additional AA guns like the 1.1"/75 caliber AA gun and the M2 Heavy Machine Guns in quadruple mounts are added due to the threat of aircraft.

Midway Island Naval Air Station

Midway prepares to receive four 16-in/45 caliber guns to bolster it's shore batteries. The current 5-in/51 caliber guns are seen as adequate for destroyers and cruisers, but not the larger battleships. The also prepare to receive additional aircraft from both the Army Air Force and the Marine Corp. The carriers headed to Midway are carrying two additional squadrons of P-40E Warhawks, a squadron of Marine F4F-3 Fighters, and some Marine SBD Dive bombers. Transports carry what cannot be loaded onto the flight decks of the carriers. An additional squadron of B-25s will be sent as well via transport ships.

Detroit, Michigan

Detroit, as with the other industrial cities, especially in the Midwest, has seen many old factories come to life overnight. Some factories work three shifts that keeps it going 24/7. Industrial giants begin to finish up existing civilian products and retool for building military equipment. Everything from airplanes to pistols are turned out on an industrial scale to win the war.

Invasion Force, Wake Island, March 15, 1940

Soon, the troops were given the signal to attack. The Invasion force immediately rushed towards the enemy, as the battleships stopped firing their guns. May shouts of "For The EMPIRE", could be heard. Meanwhile, the Admiral was talking with his officers about how the island could be used against the ATCO members. They decided that Wake Island would be used as a resupply base for ICPS forces.

Near Midway, Pacific Ocean, March 17, 1940

The submarines that survived finally decided to retreat; however, they broadcasted a radio transmission as they left. The (Japanese) transmission, over a public channel said, "Mission Accomplished. I repeat, Mission Accomplished. All surviving submarines, except I-401 are returning to Invasion Fleet 1 for refueling and.....Dang it, wrong channel...."

OOC: The transmission was a pre-arranged broadcast meant as an extra step to get more ATCO forces to protect Midway and away from Hawaii.

Wake Island Naval Air Station and Marine Base

The Marines and other personnel fire at the oncoming Dragomerian troops. With the small remaining force, they try desperately to hold a perimeter around the airfield. Low on ammunition, they fire until their ammunition runs dry. At 3:15 PM, Major Eckert sends one final message: "Wake island garrison has fallen. All defenses have been wiped out and all other facilities have been devastated." Him and another Marine then destroy the communications equipment and then destroy the documents with an incendiary grenade. At 3:45 PM local time, the last 48 defenders of Wake Island surrender. 28 Marines, 10 Army Coastal Artillerymen, and 10 Naval personnel finally surrender. Many of them were wounded.

However, over the horizon, the Washingtonian strike aircraft from the carriers ROWS Arlington (CV-2) and ROWS Erie CV-7) begin to start their attack runs. The torpedo bombers and dive bombers head after the Dragomerian aircraft carriers while Torpedo Squadron 2 from the Arlington heads after the Musashi.

Midway Island Naval Air Station

Word is received that Wake Island has fallen. The signal is then sent to the fleet and to Bremerton that Wake Island has fallen to the Dragomerian Empire. They receive a signal the following day from an I-400 submarine discussing refueling operations and rendezvous locations. Th information is passed onto JPAAC headquarter in Bremerton. In the meantime, radar installations are constantly on the lookout for incoming Dragomerian aircraft. Fighters are constantly on combat patrols and destroyers regularly patrol the waters.

Bremerton Naval Station

Admiral Fowler receives news that Wake Island has fallen. Now faced with a tough decision, he is forced to make a decision to commit his fleet to defend Midway or the Hawaiian Islands. He contacts his respected equals in the Ascoobian military on the situation in Hawaii before making a final commitment. In the meantime though, Midway will receive additional defenses. From mines, to shore guns, to Marines, to aircraft, to more radar. The carrier fleet sent to Midway is to stay and help defend it. The strike group sent to Wake is ordered to recover their planes and withdraw to Midway.

Decagon Cell

"You're turning yourself in?" Mr. Rong Angrily asked Mr. Hang.

"Did you see what happened to Little Dragon? They're not going to knock on our door with a couple of cops, they'll send a Tank! Or Worse, an AIRSTRIKE! I have a Family and I'm not putting them into danger!" Mr. Hang explained to his angered partner.

"If you Compromise our operations in Ascoobis, what will happen to them? The Same Fate Likely!" Said Mr. Rong

"Well If I do so, I might just give them a headstart on relocating before we get destroyed!" Mr. Hang said as he'd walk out of the door.

Mr. Hang would be able to escape the area and turn himself in to a local police station before the Ascoobian Airstrike closed in.

Flagship Musashi, Yamato-class Super battleship, Second Invasion Fleet, 2 km from Wake Island, March 15, 1940

Admiral Ichijoji ordered all the enemy soldiers to be taken to the brig of one of the light cruisers in the fleet. He was discussing the Empire's future use of the Island, when enemy aircraft appeared on radar. He immediately ordered all fighters to intercept the enemy aircraft. The fighters already in the air immediately started heading towards the incoming enemy aircraft, while the aircraft carriers immediately had all their fighters take off. The fleet itself then organized itself into its defensive formation. Soon, all aircraft were launched, and the fleet's anti-aircraft guns were manned.

Soon, the first wave of aircraft intercepted the incoming enemy aircraft and began to engage the enemy aircraft.

Above Wake Island Naval Air Station and Marine Base

The F4F-3 fighters are sent to deal with the A6M Zeros. They break off to allow the strike aircraft to have a shot a their targets. As they get closer, the anti-aircraft fire gets heavy and very dense. Torpedo Squadron 2 of the ROWS Arlington (CV-2) goes in for their run on the Musashi alone practically. The other air groups concentrate on the carriers. The dive bombers climb until they prepare to descend on their targets, taking fire all the way. The torpedo planes risk it with a low level strike that takes them into the teeth of the AA defenses. This duel pronged attack was supposed to split AA defenses.

Half of the Zeros in this wave went for the dive bombers, while the others went for the torpedo bombers. The ships of the Fleet were prepared to fire their AA guns when the enemy fighters get within range. Meanwhile, Admiral Ichijoji waited to see the outcome, as the close-ship strategy was being tested. He hoped that the closeness of the ships to each other would prevent enemy torpedoes from hitting their desired target. Every ship was now firing their AA guns at the approaching aircraft.

The F4F-3 Fighters do their best to hold back at least half of the Zero's, downing a few in the process. The TBD-1 Devastators of the Torpedo Squadron 2 come under attack by some of the A6M2 Zeros diving down from above. Six of the 16 Torpedo planes are shot down before reaching their target. Six more released their torpedoes but some broke up on impact or failed to run. Four however did manage to drop their torpedoes successfully and they streaked towards Musashi. The Dive bombers manage to get to their attack positions, though six are lost to the marauding Zeroes. Some however become preoccupied with trying to shake the Zeros off their tail. Some begin their runs on the carriers down below.

The eight Submarines sent to attack shipping in Southeast Asia stop at Midway to refuel before proceeding. They hope that this campaign will force the Dragomerians to commit forces away from North Amwell and the Central Pacific in order to assist the Scarlet Shogunate. Meanwhile, the fleet from Bremerton closes in on Midway to assist in it's defense, though some may head to the Hawaiian islands.

Above the Fleet, Second Invasion Fleet, near Wake Island, March 15, 1940

The Zeros continued their assault on the enemy dive bombers and torpedo bombers. The Zeros were getting closer to their targets. The pilots of the Zeros became more and more ferocious as time ticked on. The Enemy's torpedoes sped towards the cluster of ships that surrounded the Musashi. Three of the torpedoes hit and crippled a light cruiser and one hit and sunk a destroyer. Above the aircraft carriers, some of the Zeros pursued the dive bombers that were already preoccupied with them, while others followed the bombers that were about to drop their rounds. The Zeros pursuing them were counting on (and anticipating that) those bombers being too preoccupied on their bombing runs to counter the Zeros; however, they would not know if their assumption was right until after the bombers finished dropping their payloads. After the bombers dropped their payloads, the 45kg bombs (ooc: I checked what they could carry), the bombs fell towards the carriers. Some bombs detonated prematurely, but some hit the concrete decks, causing moderate damage to the flight decks and destroying a total of eight triple 250 mm AA Guns and two twin 127 mm Gun. In addition, the bombs also caused moderate damage to the exposed bow of the carriers. A number of the bombs missed the aircraft carriers.

OOC: I am guessing the number of aircraft that were able to drop their payloads onto the carriers. F4F-3's carried 2x 45 kg bombs or 2x 220 L drop tanks in RL. This post assumes that there were maybe 6-8 aircraft able to do it and that the specs for the F4F-3 are the same as in RL. Please correct me on any incorrect assumptions I made in this post.

OOC2: I can not respond to the second part until you actually sink ships with them.

OOC3: This color means that the text was edited to fix an incorrect assumption.

OOC: The F4F-3s were not carrying any bombs whatsoever. They are acting as escort fighters, not as bombers. The planes that dropped the ordinance on the carriers were SBD-3 dauntless dive bombers. The SBDs dropped single 500 lb (226.796 kg) bombs.

OOC:2: That is more for Scarlet when he posts.

March 15, 1940
Canada produces aircraft and tanks for Ascoobis at a surprising rate given that the country is developing a strong industrial base from scratch only three days after the need for such capabilities emerged. These, along with numerous assets for Canadian usage, are evidence of the industrial potential of the Canadian population despite claims that the strength of Canadian labour unions would weaken the efficiency of the newly born industrial sector. Both mining and manufacturing are seeing steep rises in employment and productivity.

There is growing concern over the struggle between business owners and the government. The government has granted hefty subsidies to businesses to produce at staggering rates to meet the demands of ATCO nations, however the labour unions are putting some pressure on the owners to raise pay. Already, some strikes have been seen in southern factories and in swelling mining towns in the north. This has resulted in business owners failing to deliver what they promised to the government. There is now dispute over how the subsidies are to change to reflect this. There is also pressure from the Shield Party to enact restrictions on labour unions, which is being opposed by the Prosperity Party in favour of granting more union power and reducing the influence of factory owners in the trades that their employees practice. The Shield Party asserts that production will rise if owners can spend more on acquiring materials, but the Prosperity Party asserts that the productivity of the factories will rise if the employees are promised better working conditions and pay, attracting more people and improving the quality of the products. There is some concern over the quality of the Bf 109 assembly, which has seen nearly 40 aircraft with major assembly faults. This is despite, or even because of, the relative power of the ownership in most of the aircraft factories compared to union bargaining power. Mining towns are seeing large, but often low-purity, mineral and ore yields due to the hasty practices of workers under pressure from ownership.

Meanwhile, the draft has pulled several thousands of men in the first week. There is rising pressure on the government to allow access to women in the armed forces, inspired by the historical precedent in the Canadian Civil War where women sucessfully infiltrated and captured installations of the Great Canadian Dominion, the most famous being the raid led by now former Second Chancellor Junever Heria in the late stages of the war after turning from a naval nurse to a revolutonary hero. The Prosperity Party and the Shield Party have shown a willingness to allow women to enlist, provided that they meet all physical needs, but neither party is inclined to expand compulsory military service to women.

Above Wake Island Naval Air Station and Marine Base

Having completed their runs, most of the surviving strike aircraft disengage and head back to the carriers. All but Torpedo Squadron 7 of the ROWS Erie (CV-7) leave. Torpedo Squadron 7 bores in on the carriers while the fighters were preoccupied with the fighters and Torpedo Squadron 2. Taking heavy AA fire, ten of the 20 Devastators manage to get their torpedoes running in the water towards the carriers before beating a retreat.

The 30th Heavy, 48th Medium, and 53rd Medium bombardment groups are are organized into the 2nd Bombardment Wing. Coupled together with the 1st and 13th Air Reconnaissance squadrons, they form the 1st Air Force. Drago-Scarletean Convoy
The squad of Cruisers would be forming a protective wall on both sides of the merchant barges. They would use their Dragomerian Bought Radar in an attempt to detect possible enemy Submarines so they can sink them with use of Torpedoes fired on their side. This tactic of Counter-Torpedo Warfare was yet t be tested, but the Naval Board had high hopes that It would work.

The Fleet, Second Invasion Fleet, 2 km from Wake Island, March 15, 1940

The fleet, was still in its close formation. A destroyer on the outside took three of the incoming torpedoes and sunk, while the crippled cruiser from earlier was sunk due to being hit by one torpedo. Three torpedoes hit a Mogami-class heavy cruiser. The first two torpedoes damaged her hull and caused flooding in the forward compartment. The last torpedo that hit that cruiser failed to go off when it hit the hull. The last three torpedoes hit a Fuso-class battleship, broadside. The impact of the torpedoes damaged her thick armor and flooded her central ballast tank on her right side. Meanwhile, in the air a number of the Zeros continued their pursuit of the enemy aircraft, A number of bombers took off into the air to follow the enemy aircraft back to their fleet. The Zeros were to keep them occupied as to prevent them from noticing the bombers, which were flying up high and at a distance away from the Zeros and enemy aircraft.

Above Wake Island Naval Air Station and Marine Base

As the strike group egresses away from the fleet, more Zeroes pounce. The F4F-3 Fighters , whirl around to assist, trying to get them to break off from the bomber's tails. The rear seat gunners of the dive bombers and torpedo bombers do what they can with their rear mounted .30 caliber machine guns. The Wildcat pilots find that the A6M2 Zeroes can outmaneuver them and can climb faster than them. They also find however that te A6M2 Zeroes have no armor protection and do not dive as well. The Navy and Marine Pilots try to hold them off as they withdraw to the east towards their carriers.

Task Force 1, 120 miles to the east

The carriers ROWS Erie (CV-7) and ROWS Arlington (CV-2), battleships ROWS Chesapeake (BB-25) and ROWS North Dakota (BB-24), cruisers ROWS Windsor (CA-38), ROWS Spokane (CA-39), ROWS Bellingham (CL-12), ROWS Saskatoon (CL-15), and ROWS Sioux City (CL-18), as well as their 12 destroyers go into formation to recover the incoming aircraft. However, when radar picks up more aircraft behind their strike formation, the alert is raised. Ships maneuver into a ring pattern around the carriers to overlap their AA fire. More fighters from the Arlington are scrambled to defend the carriers.

The enemy aircraft were still being pursued by the Zeros. The pilots of the Zeros would not be deterred from their prize. The large number of Zeros in the air made it hard to concentrate on one and not become the target of another; however, it also made it hard for the pilots of the Zeros to keep track of their fellow pilots. Due to their higher speed, the Zeros were coming closer and closer to their Washinton counterparts (ooc: Zero max speed is 534 km/h, F4F-3 max speed is 531 km/h). Many of the Zeros, not attscking the F4F-3's started attacking the bombers from behind, using their guns.

OOC: WW2 Radar could not detect aircraft from that distance (120 miles). The research I found said that they could detect large ships at 15 km. Unless I am mistaken, aircraft are smaller than 'large ships'.

OOC: That was supposed to be after the time lapse of your bombers trailing mine.

En-route to Task Force 1

The F4F-3s, with some of the Zeroes confused take the initiative and begin to target any ones that are target fixated on the bombers. The bombers take some evasive maneuver to try and throw off the aim of the Dragomerian pilots.

Task Force 1

The carriers of Task Force 1 make preparations for the attack. All munitions left exposed are moved into the magazines, more ammunition is brought up to the AA guns, and the aviation fuel lines are flushed out with CO2 to get rid of any explosive vapor. The battleships move to the outer edge of the formation to be the first line of defense, followed by the cruisers, and then the destroyers. The fighters from Arlington are launched as CAP.

Bremerton Naval Station

Battleship Squadron 5 headed by the ROWS Ontario (BB-29) is formed with the ROWS Harvest (BB-19), ROWS Baffin (BB-26), ROWS Montana (BB-18), ROWS Skyline (BB-15), and the ROWS North Dakota (BB-24). Together with the 6th Cruiser Squadron headed by the ROWS Lincoln (CA-42) leads the ROWS Tacoma (CA-35), ROWS Ann Arbor (CA-33), ROWS Bend (CA-41), ROWS Ottawa (CL-17), ROWS Hamilton (CL-10), and ROWS Vancouver (CL-13), they set out for the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Destroyer Squadron 3, consisting of 10 destroyers and Destroyer Squadron 7 with 12 destroyers accompany them. All the vessels are head northwest to keep any Dragomerian ships from the Bering Strait from coming down and attacking the West Coast. They will hold position to the east of the Being Sea in the Gulf of Alaska to prevent this.

Fort Lewis, Washington

More and more divisions have sprung up in the past weeks. The 1st Field Army approaches a ready state to be deployed north. The 2nd Field Army begins to approach the same level as well. Ten divisions are almost ready to assist North Amwell in it's struggle against the Dragomerian Army.

Fairchild Army Air Force Base

The 1st Air Force begins flying out to their designated air fields in North Amwell. The bombers and fighters take off in droves while their ground support crews are shipped by rail to North Amwell. They are first Washingtonian forces to arrive in North Amwell in force. From there, they begin to plan their first air operations.

Air Force 3, Near the Enemy aircraft, In the Air, March 15, 1940

The Zeros continued to chase the enemy aircraft. The Zeros going after the bombers contined firing at them, while observing their evasion tactics. The Zeros going after the F4F-3's continued firing at them, while observing the enemy aircraft's capabilities. Due the the greater maneuverability of the Zero, the Zeros were not thrown off by the bomber aircraft, but instead allowed the Zeros to reduce the distance between them and the enemy aircraft.

With the Zeroes getting in close, it gives the tail-gunners a better shot at the Dragomerian pilots, who now require less lead in order to shoot accurately. The Wildcats do what they can to get the Zeroes off their tail with diving maneuvers and attempting to go head on.

The newly formed Washingtonian 1st Marine Division, comprised of the 1st, 5th, and 11th marine Infantry Regiments board transport ships in Seattle, Washington. They are bound for the Ascoobian Hawaiian Islands to train and receive more recruits later. Part of it is to also strengthen the ATCO's hold on the Hawaiian Islands. Outfitted with their tropical gear, they will train in the hot and humid environments of the Central Pacific in order to fight against the Dragomerian Army. More Marine recruit and later Army units will join them as well on the Big island.

OOC: Agreed!

Air Force 3, Near the Enemy aircraft, In the Air, March 15, 1940

The Zeroed would not be deterred! Through countless maneuvers, the Zeros welcomed the challenge, many of which were making it a game over which pilot could down the most enemy aircraft. Those facing the the enemy aircraft head on also freely engaged in the head-on combat. Eventually, the Zeros reached the enemy fleet. (ooc: from here on I am going by what you described as the fleet's organization) The Zeros saw that the enemy placed the battleships on the outside of their fleet. A number of Zeros decided to Kamikaze the enemy battleships, aiming to hit the enemy battleships' towers (ooc: I do not know the technical term) or their hulls. Many of the Zeros chose to finish engaging the enemy aircraft at close range to ensure that if the enemy would use their AA guns, then they would risk hitting their own aircraft.

OOC: RP-wise, I plan on having my nation invade Midway*, on March 18, 1940, and Hawaii on March 21 of that same year (depending on the rate of battle).
*Midway would not be an invasion but a direct naval engagement to draw forces from Hawaii prior to the Hawaiian invasion.

Task Force 1

As the enemy Zeroes moved in close, the gunners on the SBDs and TBDs were able to get close up shots of the enemy pilots. Their cockiness would be turned against them as the gunners had the ability to pick out their engines and blast away at their virtually unarmored targets. Their tracer rounds would help ignites fires.

The fleet below opens up with their AA guns. The rattle of the 5-in/25, 1.1'/75, 20mm, and .50 caliber guns rattle out as the Zeroes and attack planes roar in over the fleet. The additional fighters from ROWS Arlington (CV-2) join the fray to take down the enemy bombers headed for the fleet. Battleship ROWS Chesapeake (BB-25) tries to take evasive maneuvers as several enemy A6M2 Zeroes roar overhead. The AA gunners on the Chesapeake manage to shoot down three Zeroes before one flies itself intentionally into the forward mast of he ship, destroying it and killing all the men inside. The second Zero struck the ship dead center of the port side into the thick belt armor. Little damage was done. The third Zero crashed into the deck just behind turret 3 on the port side, starting a fire and forcing the gun crew to fight the fires. The magazine was kept safe. Meanwhile, the ROWS North Dakota (BB-24) was struck by two more Zeroes. One crashed into her bridge behind the conning tower, killing 24. Her Captain was mortally wounded. The second hit turret four, doing moderate damage and causing smoke to fill the inside of the turret.

The rest of the ships in the Task Force form a tight ring around the carriers to prevent any of the strike planes from having an easy attack run. The fighters from Erie and the Marine fighters are to ffinish off the Zeroes while Arlington's fighters deal with the strike planes.
